Hello,
I've been trying to install adb and root my nexus s. But I'm having great difficulty to do this, I have updated USB drivers, modified path, and done everything that I found on the net. but when I open cmd and type "adb" I just get. 'adb is not a known command or batch file..."
Does anybody have some ideas to installing and getting adb to work?

Sounds like the file isn't in the right folder, if you downloaded the sdk recently read the text file, theres additional steps you need to take before accessing adb

If its the same issue I had I believe in the tools folder theres a text file that tells you adb is now located in the platform tools folder or something to that effect

ADB file is now located in platform-tools folder, copy the adb file and the two files associated with the adb file and paste them in your tools folder. If you don't know the two associated file, just try pasting the adb file in the tools folder and you will get a prompt that will tell you which files
Adb is saying that it doesn't recognize "fastboot" as a command. I haven't really use ADB since I got the phone in February, has there been changes to the commands needed?

Make sure fastboot is still in your tools folder. With some of the updated sdk fastboot gets removed. If it's not there you can get it from the cm wiki and just put it in the tools folder.

The problem is that you think you need to run adb to get fastboot to work.
adb and fastboot are 2 separate programs. ADB is the Android Device Bridge where fastboot is another standalone command line program s used to directly flash the filesystem etc.
If you download the Android SDK now, it won't have fastboot included, so you need to get it from somewhere else, like the old CM wiki as crump suggested.
Once you have the compiled fastboot file, you can navigate to it from a command prompt and execute the fastboot commands

Thanks for the clarification. I really only used it once or twice when I first got the phone. And I just looked and I am missing the fastboot. I'll give it a shot.
In cm wiki there is only fastboot 32bit. I have 64bit, will it still work?

Yes, 64 bit computers are backwards compatible for the most part

All right guys, I know I should search the forum, but I have no time now, this is what's going on: I tried to install CF3D's plugin on my Transformer, but it went darn bad, I can't get past Asus' "powered by tegra" screen, and I need this by tomorrow, for my class, how do I fiz this?! I unlocked it, running TWRP v 0.2.2.3., can't remeber my rom's name but it's a mod of the CleanRom, v3.1 that's all I know. I think I can fix this by re-flashing my rom, but I don't know if I can put files into my SD only with TWRP in my hands, if not is it a real brick?? Please, help me!!!

I don't understand "if I can put files into my SD only with TWRP in my hands", you don't have a pc where you can copy the rom to your sdcard? BTW you should be using twrp 2.3.1.0.
I actually have my PC here with me,
but like I said im not sure I can connect it to the pc since it will be on recovery, you know, like an MTP or mass storage, can TWRP do that?

You can't take the sdcard out and put it to your pc, copy the rom from pc to sdcard then put it back to your device? or you could use adb to push the file and hope adb is working on your pc.

Try this,
Copy the rom.zip to the directory where your adb.exe is, then boot your device to twrp (home screen).
On your pc type
adb push rom.zip /Removable/MicroSD then hit enter (this copy the rom.zip from your pc to the root of your microsdcard.
If you see bunch of number and bytes and time then it's working.

Alright, I'ts getting late, so I'll try it after school after all, I was thinking of using flashtool to flash the room through fastboot, that's how I used to do on my Xperia Play, but I don't know if the program works with asus' tablets... Anyway, thanks a lot man, for trying to help me and all, If it works I'll have a lot to owe u.

EDIT: I must be doing something wrong. Where is the adb.exe location? I found one in the Asus Sync folder, is it that one? Second, where do I put this command? I know, in the command prompt, but which folder is it supposed to open?

You don't move the adb.exe, where ever the adb command located, you need to open command prompt and navigate to the adb.exe folder. Asus Sync is located in C:\Program Files\ASUS\ASUS Sync and so is the adb.exe. so open command prompt and type:
cd\ hit enter, this bring you to root Ccomputer displayed C:\>
type:
cd Program Files\ASUS\ASUS Sync hit enter, you're now in the Asus sync folder (this is where your rom.zip should be in also)
computer should displayed:
C:\Program Files\ASUS\ASUS Sync>
now type
adb push rom.zip /Removable/MicroSD then hit enter (this copy the rom.zip from your pc to the root of your microsdcard.

I'm not sure, i'll try it out right now. I guess if it doesn't work it could be a problem with adb, is there any tutorial on how to set it up?

I thought that you already have adb working on your PC, but seems like you don't. You need to download Android SDK and once installed, you can use adb command from this SKD. Here is the link to how install Android SDK. It shouldn't take no more than 10 min. Just download and run the install, only select packages with the word "Android name" should be only 2. Once you done this, adb and fastboot should work fine. You also need Java, but like 99% ppl with a PC should already had Java installed.

This tool is very important in rooting, recovery, flash stuff to your device. So I recommend you install this and get it working, it will save you a lot of time and headache in the future.

All there is in here is a .cmd file, no adb or nothing, I tried to use the command line you provided me, but all I get is:
adb server is out of date. Killing...

Edit: I also downloaded the Android SDK Manager and downloaded the two tools

If you go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/atta...7&d=1350299936 download the zip file then unzip to your drive. In this new folder you should see adb.exe and fastboot.exe and a few dll files. Do you see them??? Make sure your anti-virus doesn't strip the files.

Oh man, this sucks, it says 404 page not found, didn't you cpy the wrong link?
I wiped the system thinking it was part of the system factory reset in TWRP but i didnt know that it would result in it saying NO OS INSTALLED. i read other similar threads about this problem but dont exactly understand what to do and how to restore my phone. i have a nandroid backup but its on my pc and not the internal storage on the phone. im fairly new to this so those replying, please explain exactly what to do. Im so scared about what to do now :crying::crying::crying:
Don't be scared its common and very, very easy to fix
Now I don't use TWRP so I have no idea of the directory structure so I can't advise you exactly.
But what you will essentially do is use adb push to get the files on your phone.

First relax, your phone is not ruined. I assume you have a custom recovery. You're going to have to either side load a rom zip using adb or adb push a rom zip onto your phone and flash it in recovery.
Edit, OP you'll want to push the rom to /sdcard/Download. That'll put it into the folder twrp defaults to look for it.

TWRP supports ADB commands, but the stock Google driver won't work. If you install the Universal ADB Driver you should be able to push your backup to your device (adb push [file location on your computer] [where to push on your phone])

You could also flash a ROM through adb sideload. Download a ROM zip to your computer, then in TWRP choose Advanced -> ADB Sideload. Then run "adb sideload [zip file]" to sideload the ROM you downloaded.

Luckily its easier install adb and fastboot than the ask method. Just go to the thread mentioned earlier and use the 15 second installer

All these guys have it spot on! I just wanted to mention that when you install a ROM system gets wiped automatically as this is a parameter in the zip's updater-script.
So in other words there is really no reason to wipe system manually. Just let the install process do it for you. If u wipe system manually and then you realize you do not have a ROM zip or a nandroid only ADB can save you. So this way you can save yourself a headache

I downloaded everything and ran the flash-all . bat file but its currently been on < waiting for device > for a while now. i think it didnt detect the phone although it is connected through the USB :/

yeah i did download the 15 second ADB installer but my computer isnt detecting the phone connected when i ran the flash-all . bat file.
1) you need to read the whole of my thread. There are drivers to install
2) Still dont understand why you're running flashall bat when you can just adb push your backup to your sdcard. You know you lose all your data when you do that?

ok yes im reading your thread and doing the ADB commands. i have a question though, the multi-line input for the code to ADB push goes in cmd right? how is that possible?

If "mount data" shows device or resource busy, then that usually means it is already mounted.

i did everything but in the last part, it doesnt transfer the recovery files to the phone
Edit: The files are transferring successfully but only one at a time.
EDIT 2: All the necessary files were transferred but the TWRP recovery mode isnt detecting it as a restore option
Messing up is scary but it's a great opportunity to learn. I think you'll get through this just fine.

Take a new backup, then delete everything in the new backup folder and move everything from your old backop into the new backup folder,
So for example
Code:
adb shell
mount /data
cd /data/media/0/TWRP/backups
ls
^^ This should list the contents... You should see your old backup and your new backup (which will be mostly empty).
Lets pretend your new backup folder is 22222222 and your old backup folder is 11111111
Code:
rm -Rf 222222222/*
mv 111111111/* 222222222
The first command is a remove (recursive) of the contents of the new backup. second command mvs contents of old backup into new backup folder,
Try that.
I don't know TWRP so my assumptions of the path may be incorrect
Someone else posted twrp default path as /sdcard/downloads - try that.
