Galaxy S4 Black Edition experiences

Hi there, everyone!
I noticed there was not yet a thread for the new S4 Black Edition. In about 20 days I will get one, but I would like to hear some experiences from people who have already got one.
When mine arrives I will post my findings here as well.
What is the advantage over the Black Mist colour? Does the back feel nice? Does anybody know whether this version will get slower updates than the earlier models?

I've got the Black Edition for a week now and I can happely say I love it!
I have had the Black Mist one but this one has got a much better premium feel.
I really love how the front is finally completely black, as opposing to the ugly black the Black Mist had.
The back of the device feels really awesome. Grip is so much better and you can't stop rubbing your fingers over it because it feels so nice.
If you get the change to buy a Galaxy S4 I would not look further and go with the Black Edtion. You won't regret it.
About updates, it's just the same old i9505, just another color and back. You will get updates as fast as the others get updates.

About updates is not true. Black edition gets separate updates from regular i9505, because of the wallpapers and ringtones. So the OTA updates will be slower than others.

Ah, I might have said that because I wanted KitKat so I flashed the latest available rom for the i9505.

I was going too pick one up today because in my region (Cambodia) they previously sold only the i9500 and I read that the Black Edition was the i9505. My bubble was busted at the phone shop today when I saw that it was an i9500. And the quality of the back cover was pretty meh. The fit around the camera was sloppy, and the gloss of the leather grain texture was very inconsistent. But from a distance, it looked fantastic. The normally bright chrome strip on the side had a really nice smoked tint that looked great with the black. Too bad it was just another i9500 :/

Yes. Apparently it depends on region. I was under the impression that it was i9505 only until I saw the i9500 Special Edition this morning.

Hi there
When I saw the black edition online I sold my black mist and baught this one straight away.
It feels perfect. Go on and buy it. It is and feels much more premium than the other one.
As they say it is like the s4 should have been from the start.
The only thing is that the other one was already on 4.4.2 here in Greece and the new one (Slovakia model) is on 4.3
I just hope that the update is gonna come soon. I have to agree that it should have separate update from the other models due to the different wallpapers and ringtones.
All in all a perfect choice. :
BTW the metal rim is much darker than the shiny one on the black mist version.

Great design ! But which is the firmware inside ? I think it's impossible to find a black edition with an old firm an old bootloader...

Got mine a week ago and I love it. This is what the S4 should have been like from the start, premium look and feel. Great grip too. And with KitKat it flies like the wind, no slower than my previous Note 3 :good:

Me too!! Only wished samsung themed touchwiz all black. Or black with red or blue accents. It would just make the phone more perfect than it already is.

So what firmware version is it running, and did it come with a Knox bootloader?

Also bought the black edition. Great phone with cool looks! Still waiting for 4.4.2. Only thing missing is a "black edition" s-view cover. If you want to use a s-view cover you lose the faux leather back plate ?
I didn't install knox but it certainly is knox ready.

Yepp 4.3 xxuena4 firmware with knox and no saferoot possible without tripping knox.

Interesting reading,
In the uk phones4u are selling it both contract and sim free. It looks very slick and I need a new phone but conscious about buying what in tech terms is now an aging processor. Especially with the reports of kitkat lag on the gs4.
It looks awesome and is the full i9505 model

Can I change my i9506 back to put the premium back?

I searched everywhere, even in China Baidu. I have not found anywhere. I hope one day someone will find it and post here.

They used the same image for the M9 lol, I think it's either taken from Xperia phones or iphone 6.
Btw the up/bottom borders are huge and the ugly central samsung button inherited of the 2000s samsung phones is still there :crying:

ROMs for the S6/S6 Edge

Can we use them in unison, or will there be 2 separate forums, one for S6 and another for the S6 Edge? I'm betting more people get the regular S6, but the S6 Edge looks wayyyy to sexy for me to pass up so I think I will be getting that. I'm worried though that there will be little community support for it... but if we could use regular S6 ROMs then it's not a factor at all, buut if we CAN'T use regular S6 ROMs, then it's kind of a big deal lol.

OP wants to know if there will be unified development for them (Flashing S6 roms on S6 Edge or vice versa).

Yes, there are two sections, this is for regular s6, but there's people who takes about s6 Edge, I don't know why.

If samsung were to do themselves a favor, they would use the same rom for both the S6, and the S6 edge. I think there are only a couple of additional features the edge will have that the S6 won't. I hope sammy does a

It would mean updates could roll out to both devices in tandem, and S6 roms would work on the edge, and vice versa. But I'm sure that won't happen. I'd like to be wrong, though.

Roms will be easy to port between the two, but it's unlikely you'll be able to directly flash a regular rom to an edge.

No, you're wrong, I clearly stated in the OP if ROMs are interchangeable between the 2 phones @akitten007 was correct.
I just wanted to know if S6 ROMs could be used with the S6 Edge.

So I Heard The S7 Edge Battery Is Better then the s7? Witch yall think is better. Not counting the bigger screen of the 7Edge and battery. .

But this is, if I'm not mistaken, discussion on whether or not to upgrade from the s5 to the s7, which I think is a good thread to have.
My opinion on the matter, I'm going to the s6 for financial reasons. I mainly want carrier aggregation. Plus the s6 is good enough. Especially since I buy through third party sellers.

If you're comfortable with the width of the Galaxy S5, the Galaxy S7 Edge is the same width.
I'm getting the Galaxy S7 Edge because of that. I get more screen for the size of device I am comfortable with.
I did try it out at Best Buy. I don't notice distortion when watching videos in widescreen mode, and the glare is a lot less than the S6. They let the screen go more to the edge of the device before starting the curve, so there's a much sharper transition than the S6. This means less glare, and less interference with clicking things.

i just preorder the s7 edge. be here friday.

Iron man theme

Is it possible to install the s6 iron man theme on galaxy s7 edge? Does it work without root? where can I get it?

I just ordered my new PC from new egg last night, when it gets here I am going to start working on themes and graphics for the S7 Edge (I personally have the AT&T, but I assume that it will be universal) I can look into porting this theme.

I'm sure that I could port it; however, I might just remake it using the G4's framework library... Makes more sense to me tbh.

I tried the manual, but only trial is working for some minutes. then it switches back.

There are so many themes in the theme store...

How can I find the Ironman theme? I typed in Ironman, Avengers, and nothing.

Yeah, if you already had obtained those Marvel themes on your S6 then they'll work fine on the S7. But for those that didn't get them on the S6 then it's a little bit more tricky.

I got those themes install in my S6 Edge previously. I can find it during change to Note5 but it is not there in my current S7 Edge. Yizz...

Yes they work but clock or weather are not themed

What happened to all the amazing marvel and dc themes I can find the gold icons iron man theme any where.

Anyone wanna share them up on here?
