Huge battery drain - please help!!! - Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions and Answers

Hello guys,
I have a problem with my new Galaxy S7. The battery is draining way too fast.. I'm constantly getting around 2 hours of SOT a day and the battery lasts about 12 hours... I'm desperate... I have tried everything from turning off Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, uninstalling apps to even factory resetting the phone. The problem is still there.. Please help me

BTW, my battery level is dropping 1% every 2-3 minutes

So after resetting it and without installing any app you still have 4-5% battery drain per hour on standby ?

No, I have 1% drain every 2 minutes when using the phone on light tasks( Internet, messaging, Facebook and email). Little to no battery drain is visible when not using the phone. But I can'tell get more than two hours of SOT on a full charge

I'll suggest you do something that worked for me, charge your phone to 100% and then restart it. Idk if it will work for you but tell me if you see any difference.

Facebook app is draining battery like that for me at the moment.

Uninstalled Facebook and it's still there... Nothing funky in battery stats apart from high usage on Android System

That's weird, try disabling everything you don't need like Bluetooth, NFC if you haven't already. Turn screen brightness lower, disable fast charging and "nearby device scanning", optimize the apps in settings/battery. Then do a restart and see if it makes any difference.

Hi mate,
I was in the same boat on Monday with a faulty device that overheating and kept freezing.
What I found was I had a weird bug, and 'Mediaserver' was constantly the biggest battery drain.
So saying that, when you go to your battery stats, what is your phone telling you is the main culprit?

Try this: charge your device to 100% restart it and then unplug the charger.

Hello,
The main battery consumer when looking at the battery stats is Android System.

Take a look at this

After a couple days of owning the S7, I checked battery usage of apps
OM Customise = 10%
KNOX = 10%
I've installed Package Disabler Pro, and disabled both the above, charging the phone now and will see if it makes any difference
If the above is true, that should give me 20% back by the end of the day

Is this a battery bug?

Ok I charge my phone overnight battery is at 100% ,after 4-5 hours of moderate use I'm still at 100% But once it goes down to 99% or lower it's draining fast ,someday I lost as much as 50% in a couple hours of very light used.

I can only see calibrators for rooted phones Battery bug has been reported before in another thread. You could try changing the fast boot setting so the phone turns off properly instead of going into hibernation. That's what I did the other night. Seems to have made a difference just go into power section in settings. So many factors cam effect battery. Poor 3G signal. Auto sync. Auto brightness. Maybe try root explorer see if that makes a difference. But after a week or so charging your battery should be calibrated but then there are some that will dispute that the battery don't need to be calibrated...lol

battery draining fast

I noticed battery draining fast since I installed gravity box. Without even touching the phone in the morning it will go down to 99%
I attached the screenshot of wakelock detector from this morning. an hour commute with just listening to music dropped 15%
You need to be a bit clearer with your reports about 'drain'
Are you reporting 1% battery drop as a 'drain' definitely due to gravitybox?
Are you using a custom rom with a feature conflicting with gravitybox?
Can you uninstall gravitybox and immediately confirm the drain goes away?
Your 15% drop, were you streaming via 3G on your hour commute? If so that sounds reasonable as it works harder to keep the signal
Try betterbatterystats as well to look at other wakelocks

I am stock but rooted.
I am on lte but half of my commute i have no signal from being on a train. but usually my phone lasts a day or at least 12 hours now i am only getting 6 hours.
I will try better battery stats and then post a screenshot before uninstall gravity body
I have the same problem. I Ajay lost 3%in one minute after using this for 4 minutes. Something not right with that gravity box. I'll be lucky to get 2.5 hours of screen time compared to my 3.5 I used to get.

Gravity box won't drain your battery.
Not having a signal on the train will tho....big time. Unless you switched to airplane mode? Anytime the phone has to look for a signal, the battery takes a real beating.

rooting does not necessarily mean you will have better or wore battery. Try changing the kernel, stock kernel gives you 3-3.5 hrs SOT normal usage.(unless you use it to read books)
I had 0% drain overnight when i first bough the phone, but after a while 1-3% drain overnight is normal.

Different kernels behave differently for everyone's device and usage. You need to experiment yourself.
But before you do, work out what is using your battery first, electricity doesn't just disappear, tends to obey the laws of physics...
Then determine if it's definitely gravity box, or if you're experiencing phone 'usage' as opposed to battery 'drain'
Leave wakelock detector and betterbatterystats for collecting data for much longer. Put your phone down for a while...

Are you performing soft restarts? If so, that's probably the reason. For some reason, Android doesn't take well to soft restarts, so when you soft reset it never initializes properly and you end up with strange things like excessive battery drainage.

Interesting...I've been having erratic drain patterns lately with no visible culprits. I've noticed it happens sometimes after updating gravity box and I always do a soft reboot, so that might explain it. Do you have any more information about it?
Sent from my Nexus 5
I only did 1 softboot.
I think the culprit is google music it drains the battery like crazy. I tried not listening to music on my commute and got to work with 98% battery. With google music I will get to work with 90%

To be honest this looks like phone usage, rather than particularly bad battery 'drain'. Are you expecting that your battery should be 98% if you listen to music while on the move for an hour? Or what would a reasonable expected level be?
Your first post said that an hour commute dropped 15%, now it's dropping 10%? Sounds like an improvement to me.

How much battery you get?

Yesterday I recharged my H8 phone with my LeEco quick charger upto 97%.
I played games for 3 hours and 28 minutes and battery level came down to 9%.
Is this normal?
I'm running on stock EMUI and it has no root. Just has some 5-6 apps installed from play store like WhatsApp, fb Messenger, XDA....
And yeah I lost ~15% over night. ?
Yep,it's normal. In gaming i get like 3:30h sot and in normal use like 5-6h sot
3:30 while playing is OK, might be better with closing apps in background and using 720p.
During night 15 % is too much. You need either to change protected apps, or close all apps/turn off internet before going to sleep.
For me its 1-2% during night.

the drain overnight is due to facebook, messenger and whatsapp. they open in the background even after you close them using resources.

EMUI has built in battery management, if you charge it up to 100% before you go to sleep and come back and check in the morning, it should tell you what consumed your battery

I had the same issue, but when I turn off Wifi and Data it drains around 1% instead off around 15 - 20%.
Do I have to do a factory reset to make it work like normal, because it makes me pissed of that doze won't work as it should :/
Because when I put my phone on a table and just use my computer instead, I don't want it to drain :/

First of all, use the supplied charger that came with your device. As the Honor 8 has fast charging capabilities that require the use of the charger that came with the device. While you can use a different charger to charge the Honor 8, it will charge slower than with the supplied charger that came with the device.
Also depending on the game you are playing, the power consumption on your device will vary.

If You have either a weak data/and or wifi signal where you live this will usually cause excessive battery drain even overnight because your phone is constantly searching to keep connected to your network or to your mobile carrier. This is probably not something that a factory reset would solve.
Once again EMUI has built in battery management. YOU CAN CHECK AND IT TELLS YOU WHAT CONSUMED YOUR BATTERY. If it's an app, it'll tell you which app, unless it's hidden as Android System or Android OS, in which case it's something Google related. If you don't have a data connection then the offending app might not be able to do anything, it doesn't necessarily mean you have a weak network signal. Even if it was, it would tell you how much of the battery was spent searching for signals.
bought this phone as a back up for my 7 Plus. I'm loving it, very nice and getting just over 6hrs screen on time. No where near my 7 Plus but still great. Nougat is great too.

I'm impressed to hear that. Then again the Nexus 5X had horrible battery life.
Well I'm thinking of normal use case scenario here. Normally people don't turn on and off stuff everyday and night. Usually WiFi and cellular is always on in every phone. This weird that you put your phone in airplane mode at night to save battery.

56% is ridiculous. You got something going on behind the scenes. Like maybe a bitcoin mining app or something.
I would do a fresh install and don't install anything but your basic apps for communication. No games or anything else and let it idle overnight and see what happens. If the drain is under control then install the rest of your apps making note of which ones you added after the problem was resolved. If it still drains like that contact samsung customer support for the next step.

Question Battery draining too fast.

I had this phone for about a week now. Got used to all the features. Did all the things needed to calm the draining issue. But no budge. I've drained from 85% protection battery on to 65% upon waking up. So much faster drain from my old s20 ultra. I'm sure there will be an update. The more we talk. You should check which apps comsume battery too much, then decide what to do next.
When i first started i weren't happy at all with the battery drain. It barely used to last with 5hrs or so of screen on time! (Light usage too)
After the first 4 days it got better. I used an app called Alliance Shield X, which i believe helped me a lot. Now I'm happy with my battery drain.
Edit: Also the Galaxy Max Hz App.

Alliance Shield X helps to disable packages, create firewall, adblock, etc...
Galaxy Max Hz allows you to adjust screen refresh rates (highs and lows), and a few other settings like lowest hz on screen off/Aod refresh rate
Instander is just some 3rd party Instagram with additional features, lol. I don't use it a lot so i can't say for certain, but looking at the stats, it seems to be a decent drain
