Recommended case and screen protector? - Xiaomi Mi Max Accessories

Hey peeps of xda, about a week ago i bought a Mi Max(Hydrogen) along with a tempered glass and a tpu case. The quality of both the case and the screen protector are crap.the tpu case is too loose,no lip on the front and has these big ugly seams on the sides. The tempered glass doesnt stick around the sides due to the curved screen and it broke so easily. Please leave suggestions for cases and screen protectors

Is your device 32gb/64gb. I see you are on global Rom! ????????

After having been disappointed with tempered glass screen protectors for my Mi Max,
I have decided not to have any screen protector at all. My Mi Max looks better without it and
besides, if Mi Max really has Gorilla Glass 4 as gsmarena.com states, then scratches shouldn't be
a problem. Those tempered glass screen protectors look awful on the screen of my Mi Max.
They have way too small a width, leaving a sizable portion of the left and right sides uncovered,
as well as leaving a significant portion at the top and bottom uncovered as well.

Mi Max really has Gorilla Glass 3. (according to official specs)
And even though Gorilla Glass is great, it cab be scratched.

I keep mine without a screen protector and occasionally will put it in a clear TPU case.

I use a Nillkin case. Great texture that gives a bit more grip, and it's slim and snug. Also doesn't cost much.

Yes everything working except the screen was cracked

Just received my Vifocal, good fit.

anybody user tempered glass? Is it normal for touch? Is it really effective?

I bought one of these cases recently. It fits great and looks good. I would recommend it.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/291854786259

I grabbed this one off Fleabay.
Made an offer of $5 and it was accepted.
Wanted something with a little more protection, just in case...
http://www.ebay.com/itm/401153648416

I wish I hadn't spent money on a screen protector and case while buying the mi max as it looks much better without it. I bought the screen protector in post #2 and a fancy case in this thread but ended up taking both of them off.

Tempered Glass Screen Protectors

Anyone who currently owns an LG G2 knows the frustration of not being able to use a Tempered glass screen protector.
(yes there are many on the market but none of them fit 100%)
This is due to the "2.5D" screen glass, with its curved edges.
A Flat piece of glass just simply does not fit over a curved one.
The Note 4 has this same type of screen with curved edges, as does the iPhone 6.
All the major players in tempered glass screen protectors have said they are looking into it.
Think anyone can figure out how to make a curved glass screen protector to fit?

better to say as same as S3 (don't compare SAMSUNG GALAXY with apple iphone )
i remember the solution for screen protectors for S3 was small size.
i mean not edge to edge protector.
but for temp-glass...
maybe some glass + plastic i mean plastic for edge of screen and glass for front
two types of material in one protector !!!
i think its possible! (maybe )

There are already tempered protectors being sold on eBay, I've just ordered mine, they also state the 2.5D part too, we'll see what it's like when it arrives (a week or two after I actually get it, if it arrives on day one)
here this might be good for the new Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (Tempered Glass), a ballistic tempered glass screen protector
http://goo.gl/lkrAKf
Will be getting that tempered glass for sure. Out of curiosity, what effect (if any) does the glass have on the touch performance or S-Pen performance?
I'm going to wait and use a quality traditional type protector as also concerned about if the Samsung flip will close properly.

None for me.
I ordered from sw-box.com, we'll see how it turns out. For less then $4 I won't complain.
I just placed my order for the Mime Ghost glass protector. They have the best protectors Imo.
so the note4 has the same curved screen type as the note2? that's essentially what this 2.5D is right?
Well, my protector has arrived, wayyyyy before the device has.
I thought it was just going to be Note 3 protector rebadged, but it isn't, it wouldn't fit the Note 3, but until my 4 arrives, I can't see what the fit is like.

LG V10 Tempered Glass Screen Protector

I just reviewed the LG V10 Tempered Glass Screen Protector from Supershieldz®. Nice Fit, no bubbles, no lifting edges. Check out my review
MOD Edit: Referral links not allowed and have been removed
Got mine and it installed perfectly. It covers the view screen area but i do wish that it goes all the way on both sides since the side rails are elevated. Would have been easier to align it with the sides flush. The screen is flat so i dont think there would be any halo effect. Ill live with the gaps for now.

Did I see correctly that the protector goes over the two front cameras? Don't most screen protectors leave a cutout for the cameras? Doesn't having a glass placed over the the camera deteriorate the camera quality and the pictures it takes?

I actually did want to try out the SuperShieldz screen, but for whatever reason, they aren't available through Amazon Prime. I can't wait much longer for a screen, and the expedited shipping ended up being more than the price of the protector itself. And since basically every other screen is out of stock, I jumped the gun and ordered this one: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0154RS59Q
Truth be told I'm not going to expect a whole lot out of this one. I'm just getting it to tide me over until Zagg comes out with a protector for this phone, because I'm really not comfortable using the phone without one.
But who knows? Maybe it will end up being a keeper - it even comes with a lifetime warranty. I'll be sure to let everyone know if it's good or not when it comes in.

Wow, 0.26mm is indeed the thinnest, just wonder will it be very easy to break and can it still protect your phone , as other brands usually don't make that thin
Don't forget the easy clean (oleophobic) layer.
Some fade rather quickly that makes the surface pretty nasty.
So far Supershieldz looks OK.

Also, I ordered some more, that fully cover the phone. Will post pictures as soon as those arrive + one NILLKIN Bluelight-filter thing Tempered Glass is on the way and should arrive soon, will post that one too.

Cool, thanks. Will try to order this case
Just got today nillkin soft case, fits perfectly, buttons really comfortable. Price 7$ with free shipping (mine delivered in 2 weeks from China to Lithuania)
Here's link: MOD edit
I have very similar case (Nillkin frosted) for my HTC One (M7) and it is great. It did saved my phone couple of time including dropping it on a concrete surface from 1.5m. The design is very similar and will protect the screen also (it has raised edges which should absorb the hit). One disadvantage is that it doesn't protect the bottom/top side of the phone (where connectors are placed) so after a few years I got my phone heavily damaged in those areas (I'm not particularly gentle with this one). Ordered similar one for my Mi5
i already put nillkin tempered glass on my Mi5 and wear it a nillkin frosted shield.
but the frosted shield push the tempered glass, and the tempered glass is opened so often.
do you have similiar case like me? how do you fix it?

so far it didn't destroy a single one of mine. Using it formore than two months now and had no problem
I did change the temepred glass inbetween, tried one of those "blue filters" -> what sucked. So went back to a normal tempered glass.
But anyway: did not break my tempered glass with this thing.

I've had a Nilkin hard shell for my OnePlus One for 2 years and it's still in great condition and the phone is immaculate because of it.
Glad to see they make one for the Mi5!
You should definitely check the Ringke Fusion case as well. I got the Fusion smoke black for my black mi5. It looks good with this one too and it feels well protected. I replaced the Nillkin Nature TPU case which I had been using The Nillkin Super Frosted shield looks good too though.
I also have the Nillkin tempered glass installed (for about 3-4 days ) and I can spot already some minor scratches on it. I never had the phone in the same pocket with my keys.. I hope it will last more than 4-5 months before it needs replacement..

I have tried many of TGSP from different manufacters but Nillkin is my favourite. Always right fitting, great price and nice coating top of glass. Second favourite is British Orzly but they are bit more expensive.

its a tad smaller and leaves a tiny gap round the perimeter of the phone. I ll try to post a pic to see the result later.
I still havent found one tempered glass that fits perfectly on curved displays yet. Tried most of them on Note 7, iphone 6s, Note 4 all suffer of that tiny gap.
The only solution that works 100% are the wet application screen protectors, but they are not glass sadly..
Just purchased the nillkin protector off Amazon (http://amzn.to/2csOs7V) Will report how it looks once I receive it tomorrow!

did you got it? can you post pictures here for us to know how it looks once it's applied?
Nillkin Honor 8 Tempered Glass
Received everything today! Package comes with the front glass as well as a plastic film for the back of the phone.
The glass tries its best to go as far to the edge as possible with minimal halo effect.
I'm completely satisfied with it! Pictures attached.
Paired this protector combo with an iVoler TPU case from amazon (http://amzn.to/2cPFJcD) photo of the case also attached
Overall 10/10 satisfaction with this protective setup! Total cost for me was about $22 dollars on amazon for both items.

Totally agree. Its such a shame. Doesnt seem to be any option unfortunally =/
Hey guys I have an update!
SO my nillkin protector cracked about two days ago, right where the edge starts to curve. I contacted the seller on Amazon and they are sending me a new one no charge. Thing is, it was coming from china instead of Amazon Prime, so I ordered this off of eBay http://www.ebay.com/itm/182275291510
I didn't realize this at first but, the Nillkin protector is only a mere 0.2mm thick! It's probably while the edge chipped and a hairline crack appeared so fast... The Nacodex from eBay is substantially thicker, probably either 2-3 times as thick.
I then measured them with my cheapo calipers, the nillkin was advertised to be 0.2mm, and I got a reading of ~0.21mm. On eBay, there was no specification as to how thick the Nacodex was, and so I measured it to be about ~0.5mm.
Hopefully the Nacodex lasts alot longer than the Nillkin!
Photos are attached.
In the photo of them side by side, the nillkin is on the right while the nacodex is on the left.
P.S: I also purchased this one http://www.ebay.com/itm/232058327844 just to review it, as it was the cheapest one I found on eBay (Coming from the US)
I've bought the Ultimate Shield tempered glass screen protector.
Will report back if you wish

its a tad smaller and leaves a tiny gap round the perimeter of the phone. I ll try to post a pic to see the result later.

Have you tried Nilkin one? They any good
since in our Honor 8 is curved fron glass i tried to fit three different tempered glass protectors available in shops near me. None of those filled whole screen, from the pictures above Nilkin as well. I bought one of those but ordered from aliexpress tempered glass that covers full front
Looks like this:

Are hydrogel screen protectors as good as tempered glass screen protectors?

Hi guys, today I've applied a hydrogel screen protector made by atfolix (https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https://www.ebay.it/ulk/itm/233264226443)
If we put aside the bubbles which are left behind when applying since they seem to disappear after 2-3 days, are they as good as a tempered glass protectors like let's assume from Nillkin when it comes to drops?

There is no comparison between tempered glass and hydrogel. I have hydrogel installed on the back and tempered glass on the front. Hydrogel can save you from minor scratches but it is soft and you simply can't use this in the front after a couple of days.

Why what happens after couple of days?, If it's scratches then maybe I'm wrong in calling it hydrogel, but i have Galaxy S8 and K20 pro both have this screen protector I've put link of installed in them, the S8 is over 8 months old and there isn't any noticeable scratch, the film is pretty thick and flexible.

To be honest, i using hydrogel since redmi note 3, honor8x, pocophone, then this k20 too.
Based on what i researched online, those cheap tempered glass out there is NO WHERE near the hardness of our gorilla glass. Most of the time ppl drop their phone and the tempered glass shattered they always think that "Oh, my tempered glass saved me" but the truth it the tempered glass already is way easier to shattere compare to our original screen.
So u might ask, if this the case, why am i still using hydrogel or tempered glass? Well, i want to prevent scratches but not prevent shatter. If dropped, the screen going to shattered, nothing can be prevented ?
Just my 2cents, feel free to discuss and dont shoot me ?

And yes, its very flexible, got one time i put my phone inside a pencil case, and the ink of a pen stained on it. When changing new, i try to peel, scratch and poke the hydrogel (after taken off my phone) to be honest, its take me alot of force to poke through it.
I've had a hard time even trying to cut off from sides a bit inorder for my case not to lift it off, it's that stubborn, scissors do the job though

For the back part, Hydrogel is ok. This is soft and sticky, that's why not suitable for the front. Moreover, it can't protect your screen if you drop your phone. I would instead suggest using nilkin or other high-quality tempered glass in the front.

Doesn't look that way, though in theory because it's softer, it should absorb some impact and reduce the likelihood of damage but I'm not going to test that

Maybe one day we'll find out who was right :silly:
I've heard Lensun's are quite good
Holy crap there's a lot of misinformation here... Glass screen protectors vs others offer the LEAST impact resistance of all screen protectors, this is due to the glass being easily shattered and displaced under a fall
so the surface causing the damage (concrete, ceramic) will come into direct contact with the display glass shattering it too. Plasticc screen protectors are almost as bad but the best screen protectors are those wet Application gel type screen protectors you can get at best buy by either their home brand or Zagg. My brother works there and some guy took an iPhone and smashed it with the in house screen protector on like 30 times as hard as he can on the corner of a metal table. The phone started to bend before it even had any damage done to the screen. It did crack the screen eventually as well, he was smashing it with full freaking force. However a glass screen protector would not have protected against that whatsoever.
And I'm an avid glass screen protector user. Not because of the protection, but because of the feel. Glass will always feel superior to film/gel screen protectors and still does protect a bit when it comes to scratches. Since I rarely drop my phone I don't need the indestructible gel screen protectors

Which Nillkin glass you have? I have Ringke Fusion-X case and I wonder will Nillkin CP+ Max be compatible with that case or it will lift?

Ok, thank you.
My experience with screen protectors for this phone has been pretty awful. First glass one I tried didn't adhere around the surround of the display; I tried the second in the pack to the same result and assumed they were defective. A second lot arrived from a different vendor; same result however these ones came with an oil to squirt under the edges in order to fix the white edge or halo effect. Hard pass; the screen protectors ran so close to the earpiece grill that it was a bad idea. Plus the non-descript oil was just not what I wanted to put on a brand new oleophobic coated screen (on that note; I've already pulled three screen protectors off it at this point).
I'm now on a hydrogel protector because I assumed the screen just has a very slight countour that's hard to notice and I don't think the glass protectors have been designed with this in mind.
I'm not terribly impressed with the hydrogel tbh but it's an improvement on the glass protectors. It has a rainbow effect on bright pixels - like the screen is obviously covered in something. They are a nightmare to fit perfectly. My first punt has some bubbles despite my skill at aligning screen protectors. You really have to guide the protector on very carefully with a card instead of letting it adhere in place by itself - so the top half of my screen is a bit bubbly. They also seem to have perfect horizontal lines from production.
Imo, hydrogel > glass protectors. Unless you've managed to find a glass protector that perfectly fits the almost invisible taper of the glass on this phone.
Never had this much of a headache with screen protectors and it actually made me depressed. It's funny, sometimes the little things in life really get under your skin.
Hi previously i was using black border screen protector glass for 3 week without any issue but those black border also covers some part of screen so i ordered glass protector for me n for my friend on Aliexpress some how we manage to install perfectly those new glass on our phone but after that i facing fingerprint detection issue for sometime its work with out issue but sometime its continuously says " Try Again" and that same glass protector working fine on my friends phone, I also try to remove n add again my finger but same problem after that i removed that protector but facing same problem (i was thinking its hardware issue) but finally done a factory reset after that fingerprint working fine then again i installed new glass screen protector from local shop when he installed that glass finger print working fine but after sometime again facing same issue "Try again" sometime its work but some time its never and this problem only facing when screen is off when i turn on screen and try its detect my finger accurately. Somehow when i turn off my screen and when the 1st icon appear my finger never detect but after 1st icon goes and again i lift my phone and try again to unlock its working fine...
I i am confused i its related to glass protector or any hardware issue coz same protector working fine on my friends same phone...
