Qualcomm Mobile Development Platform (8974) tablet Question - Android General

Hello,
I posted this in the hacking forum and then figured that was the wrong place. Apologies for the double post.
I have recently come into an oldish Qualcomm Mobile Development Platform (8974) tablet (http://www.anandtech.com/show/7082/s...lopment-tablet). It is on some type of custom android os with a bunch of test tools, but no google play store app. It is admittedly an oldish platform (2 generations old), but I was hoping there might be an image somewhere out there that I can flash it with and use it as a reader/photoframe or something similar.
1. Anyone know of a usable image for this tablet?
2. How do I flash an image to something like this?
I'm unable to find any useful info on the web, and there's precious little info on this as it were.
Not sure if this is in the right place. Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

You actually posted both threads in the General section, which isn't right. Questions go in the Q&A section. I've moved the other one there, and am closing this one.

I know its here somewhere......

Right off the bat, let me apologize for being such a noob. But for the life of me, I cant seem to find out how to actually dual boot WinMo and Android on my TMOUS htc hd2. I have searched using every term and phrase i can think of and nothing. Please keep in mind that I am not only new to this type of stuff, but to forums as well. So then I tried to find out how to flash a rom and radio, and come up empty there too. I couldn't even find if thats all the steps to change a phone. I am willing to learn, WANT to learn, but need a little boost to get started. I am supremely interested in figuring out how to use Ubuntu on my hd2 (thats what my main computer is), but i figure thats probably harder than the rest so i didn't even search it. Please no comments on how noobish I am please. I am already aware of this fact. And if i posted this in the wrong place, or this kind of question is not allowed, moderators feel free to delete or move it (not that you need MY permission). Thanks in advance for any help on this matter, and as I said at the beginning, please forgive my noobishness.
Another Question.....
Another question I wanted to ask that I haven't yet found an answer to was whether or not a computer has to be used for anything other than loading files onto the SD card, and if so, are the programs running on the computer compatible with linux? If not, are they able to run on wine? Again any help is greatly appreciated.
Used to be new too

Check out the stickies
Don't lurk on that phone so don't know if they have a wiki setup. Most likely do. Most phone's have wiki sections that if you read em will all the info you need. You said you're open and want to learn, keep that up.
For reference on searching, the search system is setup like a/the forum sub section, kinda like a file system.

Use the "search this forum" button here on this page to do a search on just that phone's forum. If you use the same button on the accessories main page, it will just search that phone's acc forum. Same goes if you search the xda main forum page, you'll be searching everything.
I did notice yesterday and today the search was acting up, giving me 0 results for topics I know are here, then just searched for general things like case and unlock, still nothing. That may have been the problem you were having, too.
Good Luck
Thank You
That was the problem I was having. I would search, but come up with no or very few results. Thank you for your help. I didn't read all the stickies or even check the wiki, like i said, I'm a noob. Well, far as I am concerned this thread can be closed.

[Q] SAX and Android

Sorry about posting in here, I wanted to post in there Android Developers but it says to post in here cuz I'm new.
Anyways I've found this question asked a while ago, in a couple of different places but it hasn't been answered so I'll try asking it for myself.
I am working on a Android App that needs to read a XML file, I'm using the SAX Parse. I found an example on line that I've messed with and it appears to work if I make Java Application out of it. Though the same code does not work when if its placed with in a Android App. Is there some difference between the SAX implemtations between Striaght Java and Android's VM? Code is aviable if you have any questions.
Thank You!!
I've had a bit of a Google round and I can't see any reason why SAX wouldn't work with Java ME. In fact, I've found examples that use it specifically for Android...

Although this site is obviously full of very talented developers, if you have specific coding issues then I strongly recommend you go to stack overflow. It's a VERY busy site, with some very good (and some not so good) developers all clambering over each other to answer questions. The site is specifically for answering code problems though, so you may get flamed by asking the above question without showing some code. Along with xda it's my most visited site and I couldn't recommend it enough.
To get you started on there, here's an Android/SAX question that may help you with your problem...

[Q] MagazineUX Launcher/App request forum

Hey there,
I'd like to know if anyone out there tried to use the new Samsung tablet UI on other devices. If so, how did the experience go? I have a feeling that it wouldn't work if I just took the APK out of a system dump and pushed it to my device (like it wouldn't work for the stock launchers of most devices out there, their full functions are usually buried somewhat deep in the system, like on the framework or even deeper sh*t the manufacturer decides), but I think it's worth asking.
Plus, is there a specific forum for app/ports/whatever-like-this requests? I see there is this Q&A board and the apps board, plus device-specific app requests threads over various forums, but I really don't know where would an app request with no specific device in mind would go. If there is such forum already, I'd like to know (and have this thread moved there, if possible), because I couldn't find it easily.
Thanks in advance for any help in any of the matters.

[Completed] Compiling an App

Hello, first I want to apologize if I am in the wrong area.
On to the question/assistance, something or other.
I am trying to modify an App, a game to be specific, to be more enjoyable for me. So far, I've been able to open it up, find the locations where the files I need to place/overwrite are located. I did so, and closed up the package, however, most of the times I tried it, it would always say something about not being able to "Parse" it. Eventually I got it so that it installs and runs, but the changes don't seem to appear.
This game, Uplink, used to be a PC exclusive, and it was very mod-heavy. Most of the "mods" were simply pictures with a txt file pointing to specific pixels for locations of other things, nothing complicated. I feel that it should be possible with the Android version as well.
I've looked around, and I can't seem to find anything that helps. There is a post on the Uplink section of the Introversion Forums that explains it a little, but no one has gotten back to me.
Can anyone help me? If anyone would be willing to assist me, whether by pointing me in the right direction, or taking, or walking through, or however, I would be grateful.
I could post the APK, tools that were mentioned else, and links I found.
Again, sorry if this isn't the place to ask for help with this particular problem of mine.
Hi!
Perhaps you should ask here...

I'm sure someone there can offer some advice.

Restoring and/or booting old Android image backups

So I've got some old full image backups of my long dead Samsung phone, as well as a couple of others. I need to get some information off of them, however attempting to extract data from these images is turning out to be pretty complicated and to be quite honest, I don't know exactly what I'm looking for and so I'm looking to see if there is a way to simply restore these image files to an emulator. I'm aware that images are device specific but I don't know to what extent is the failure. Should I manage to "restore" an image and boot it, is android setup to just halt the moment it sees it's not the original hardware, or do certain functions just not work? And if any of you guys have any knowledge of QEMU and if it has the ability to emulate more than just system core architecture (x86, arm, etc...) but maybe it can emulate Samsung devices in a general way? I know this last question is a bit out of place, I'll be asking on the QEMU board as well, but just thought I'd toss it in here since it pertains.
Sorry for the total nub question, but since my case isn't device specific, I couldn't find a better place for it.
