Hi guys,
Hoping someone a little more technically-minded than I may be able to help out. Recently purchased an Alcatel Idol 3, but it has unfortunately terrible signal - sitting at about -99 to -112 dBm.
It isn't, however, my service provider or location - I've taken my sim directly out of my old phone (Alcatel pixi 4.5") which worked perfectly as far as signal goes, and haven't changed location whatsoever.
Most texts will send eventually (some take 2-3mins), some websites will load very slowly, some not at all, and there seems to be no hope of picking up GPS.
Internet and gps work perfectly while connected to WiFi.
Have tried playing around with APN settings, and then restoring them to default. Have tried restarting many many times.
Halp. Please. Any advice would be well and truly appreciated.

I bought a used unlocked HTC Viva (Quad Band GSM ) on impulse and truthfully I love it - when it works. It sometimes holds on to a signal for an entire day, but other times the signal drops, searches, reconnects, drops, searches, reconnects endlessly. I have taken the SIM card in and out. I have tried changing from automatic to manually selecting networks ( I use T-Mobile) . I have browsed through the registry to try to find some clue as to whether it was originally locked to a network it may still try to find. I flashed the Rom. Now I am giving up and asking the experts - is there any reason for a phone to drop signal so frequently while other t-mobile phones in the same room have a strong connection? Is there anything else I can try??
Thanks so much for any suggestions,
Susan
Hi there,
There are many reasons for signal problems, but need to start somewhere..... so you say you have flashed the rom, to what? DId it come with a radio? What is signal like compared to a different phone in the same room? Have you dropped the phone or is there any damage to the casing etc?
Hi all,
I have recently purchased a Tinji GT-i9300 4.7" S3 clone phone with Android 4.1.1 and Kernel 3.0.13
It all works fine apart from the signal/service freezes all the time. The signal will freeze with-say showing 4 bars even though I'm now in a no-signal area, I could even put it in a lead box and the signal indicator would still be stuck on 4 bars. When it freezes, I loose all service, even if I'm in a strong signal area. It might be something to do with when it's been sleeping for a while. I can get the service back by selecting Airplane mode and then unselecting it.
I've tried different SIMs from different providers, but they all act the same.
I've tried the obvious, like reset to factory. And I've google'd for ages, trying to find an answer.
Does anyone have any ideas or a later firmware that I can try? or do I send the phone back to China?
Thanks for looking.
Just some extra information
Just some extra information:
I have stopped the phone from going to sleep and have adjusted the CPU (I had to root the phone) to not drop down low, and it's not lost the service for hours. I will experiment more to find out if it's the sleeping or the CPU speed dropping that is causing this problem.
I believe this is quite a common issue on many android phones.
I FIXED THIS PROMBLEM!!!!!
This probably isn't going to be the answer for most of you but it worked for me. I tried all of the suggested fixes first and had tried 3 different SIMs and my phone still had the radio service freeze.
Yesterday I went into the EE (Orange) shop and got a brand-new SIM and now my phone works perfect and even the signal strength is a lot better.
Try getting a new SIM, it MIGHT FIX your problems. GL
Hi
My girlfriend also owns a oneplus one. She had the screen repaired, since then she doesn't have signal all the time. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. She tried to fix it with another sim but no effect. But last week we went abroad twice and when we were abroad she had signal all the time, and as soon as we got back in Belgium she lost signal again. Now since a day or 2 she has even less signal and she can't send messages or call even with signal.
Just adding that I also own a oneplus and I use the same provider and I have signal everywhere and I have no issues at all.
Anybody that has a solution or might know what the problem is?
Thanks in advance
Anthony
Good afternoon all,
I recently got a Cubot X9, and honestly have not been too impressed thus far. The screen came with buggy as I'd have phantom keys. That has died down a bit, but as it turns out, this phone will NOT connect 3G onto my MetroPCS network. I have tried everything, including activating it at a Dealer.
Has anyone encountered this issue and is there a work around? I understand the phone is not 4G capable, but I would assume if it is advertised as 3G that it would do so.
Thanks in advanced!
Have to say is a pretty good phone for the money once I got my screens set up how I like them and never had any issue with 3G connections. My only gripe is the woeful GPS performance has you bouncing from street to street if driving and running you cannot go in a straight line at all.
If the GPS could be fixed easily stacks up there (apart from benchmarks) with most phones out today
Hello.
Bought this OPO recently second hand. It sadly had an issue with connectivity. It has really bad reception 99% of the time, no matter where you are. Below -103 dBm and is rarely usable at all.
I have noticed though, that it sometimes gets really good reception with +HSPA, but then it switches to 3G, and the reception dives to < 100 dBm (most often unusable). It does the same when roaming on the 2G-net - sometimes good reception, but most often really bad.
I have flashed different basebands, but didn't help, so I expect it to be a hardware issue. Does anybody have any idea, what it could be? I can fix most things myself, as long as I know what the issue is and where to get the spare part.
Thanks in advance!
Okay. So I haven't actually been using 4G a lot, but I got around to testing it yesterday. It seems 4G isn't affected by the problem, since it holds a 4G service really well. But as soon as it switches to 3G/+H, the reception drops dramatically.
Same problem here. I have tried many ROMs but the problem isn't solved. Now I am trying to flash .img files one by one and I will tell you how it goes a few days later.
...
Hello again,
After flashing all .img files one by one it still didn't work. The problem was that the previous owner of this phone had the IMEI changed. So I found a guy to recover its original IMEI and now it's all fine.
