Issues with Note 7 and Samsung Pay for Gear - Samsung Gear S2

Got my note 7 today, and went to setup Samsung pay on my gear s2.. it seems like there is a version of the tpk preinstalled that does not get updated when installing the gear s2 Samsung pay app, so when you go to use Samsung pay on the gear s2 it constantly tells you that it needs to update ... hoping it's fixed soon, tried resetting the gear we didn't work

I assume you have the non 3g version of the s2, correct? I have the 3g version but am not able to use Samsung Pay on it yet.

Same issue here. Using At&t note 7 android ver 6.0.1 and the gear s2 classic (non 3g) samsung pay throws an app error.
Error Product does not exist in this store (2316:4004).
This error can be replicated by holding the back key on the gear s2. Samsung pay will prompt you to look at your mobile device and a video begins to play on it. During the video "Update Samsung Pay" appears. When you update it the error is thrown.

Yes, using Wi-Fi variant it was working fine on my s7 edge, not working at all on note 7, just keeps asking me to update. When you look at installed applications on the gear it shows Samsung pay twice, so my best guess is that one is up to date and the other is not, when you go to use it, it's probably checking version on the non updated TPK, then forwards you to the update and says you are already up to date because of the updated version. The solution is most likely to get rid of the old version, but it is not uninstallable

I had this problem as well. I'm on Verizon with Galaxy Note 7 and have a non-3g Bluetooth only classic gear S2. I just opened pay on my watch a few minutes ago, it opened the app on the phone, got the usual update message, so I hit update as I have tried every day since I got the phone last Thursday, and to my surprise, it actually worked this morning. :good: After it was updated, I closed the app on the phone, and re-initiated pay on my watch, and the app on the phone opened and the "Start" option was finally there, and I was able to add my card details. So now the trick will be to see if the pay actually works whenever I try to make a purchase.

I think they're two different things. Samsung Pay (for phones) was updated today and in the release notes it says it supports mobile payments. Two Samsung Gear apps got updates (compass and ?) but they aren't related to Pay.
So at some point in the near future I'd imagine Samsung Pay for Gear will appear in the Gear app store. There's nothing currently on the Gear S2 (at least my 3G version) to update relating to Samsung Pay so it'll have to be an app store download. Unless the new Wi-Fi Gear S2 update for the U.S. has Samsung Pay baked in.
I had hoped that today's USA S2 Wifi update was going to include the NFC tap-to-pay functionality.

Yeah...I realized also after that I got duped. I got really excited and was really looking forward to nfc payment support for the gear s2.

Samsung pay for gear s2 updated today
I just downloaded 2 different Samsung Pay USA apps for the gear S2, which noted the apps were pre-installed . Although after searching the watch, gear app, and gear app store there does not seem to be any such app still. I'm in Louisiana and have the standard sport (Bluetooth only) version.

Gear S2 and samsung pay not working

I just recently bought the samsung gear s2 because i wantef samsung pay in my watch. I saw there was an open beta for it. I go into Samsung Gear manager on my phone and yes its it the latest update 2.2.1 and my watch is updated as well, but samsung pay is not there. I saw that the update for samsung pay beta is in the next update past 2.2.1, but it keeps yelling me im in the lastest verson of the app. Its now augest 11th 2016 and the update was in july. I have att service if that makes a difference. Can anyone help or explain why its not there?
Hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that the Samsung Pay Beta only works with the WiFi versions of the Gear S2 and it isn't currently available for the Cellular versions.

The beta is now opened to 3G S2 watch models..... Although I can't get mine working.... Installed fine, loaded cards but fails to work....
I now have this same problem. Samsung pay was working, I updated the watch on 02-12-2017 now pushing the back button and holding does nothing.
At least you got cards to load, what phone are you using. i have the 3G model, and i have tried loading about 6 different cards, i even ask friends that use apple pay with their cards if i can try and load it, and then delete if it does, and cant get it to take a card. And EVERY card i have tried is on the list that it is available to be loaded.
I have the S2 classic Tmobile with Note 5. I've found that Samsung Pay works hit or miss, depending on where you are trying to use it. Not sure if it's specific store's equipment issues or what.

Try processing the transaction as credit instead of entering a PIN. I've found that works much more reliably. I use SPay on my S3 almost exclusively (keeping a physical card only for backup) with success 9 times out of 10.
Edit: I don't know for sure, but parameters set by the financial institution may also impact reliability.

Any wah to sideload Samsung Pay app on the watch?
Got Samsung Pay with CIBC Visa on S7 Edge but when i go to Settings->NFC->tap and Pay on the watxh it says No payment app installed....
After half hr on the phone with Samsung dude said it's not available on Canadian watches yet....
Ridiculous regional restrictions as usual.... F****ng Samsung....

Does it show Samsung pay through the settings page at the bottom of the gear app? That's were I was able to install samsung pay for my watch as it didn't show Samsung pay on the gear main page of the app when I got my watch and that's how I was able to install it.

I have lost all respect for Samsung lately. (Not just because of this issue but with many other of their products added into the frustration) I have been tweeting and emailing with them on this issue for two weeks and depending on who you talk to, you get a totally different answer. Last Friday I got an email from someone claiming to be a developer for Samsung and he said SP on the Gear S3 is supported in US, Australia and Canada. All I had to do was click on the SP app in the Gear Manager and it would install. I sent a reply and said the SP app is not present in the Gear App. There reply was SP is not supported in Canada. When I replied and said they were wrong and that I have my CIBC card registered with SP on my phone and that it works, they said a new version of Gear Manager is coming and we will be able to install SP on our watch at that time. I asked them when this will happen and they won't tell me!! I'm not sure any of the information they sent me is true!!

Well once more banks get supported up here I'm sure samsung will push out a software update enabling samsung pay on the watches. I'm not fussing over it yet since my bank isnt supported yet.

I ordered a US gear S3; Samsung pay on the watch works here! I used APK extrator to pull the samsung pay app. Do any of you guys want to try it out? No guarantees that it'll work though but it's a try?

Spay app is already on the watch. It comes pre-installed but gets enable/disable based on CSC.

Just wanted to know if you ever got his working? I'm a Canadian user with an S7 edge and I just sold my Canadian Gear S3 for the American version since I really wanted SPay on my watch.
Samsung Pay was also missing out of the box for me on the American Gear S3 but when I opened the Gear Manager Android app and went to Settings, there was a Samsung Pay icon. Tapping it then said, "Installing Samsung Pay", and it downloaded the following new Samsung Pay for Gear apk:

I'd suggest trying the above apk. No clue why Samsung Pay wasn't in the watch OS out of the box.
I'm also curious to know if Canadian Gear S3 users can now use Samsung Pay in their watches with the above Apk? I believe it installs the corresponding Gear app. Not sure if it's the same apk previously posted. You also have to add your credit cards again in that app. It's different from the regular Android Samsung Pay phone app.
The US Gear S3 has an XML file that says to install SPay on the watch during installation. The same XML file says not to install SPay on other watches. If we could find a way to edit it, we would be in business

The XML file is on both watches but the US XML has different values. I would assume.installing a US ROM should fix the issue but not sure.

So today's update to Samsung pay on the Gear s3 has made it that my watch 's Samsung Pay not work anymore. When I launch it on my watch it says that it needs to update to work. When I press the update button, nothing happens. My guess is that it has to update the app in the galaxy store but since Samsung Pay is not officially out in Canada, it doesn't update. Anyone else who has an American Gear S3 with Samsung Pay have the same issue?

exact same issue here in the U.S. I have note 5, rooted of course with a working samsung pay on my gear s3 classic,
just today I tried using it to pay where I normally shop and it wouldn't work says it needed an update to continue, so I went ahead and click on the update but nothing happens

I have an S3 Frontier and US Unlocked s8+ both from Best Buy and have been at my wits end trying to get Samsung Pay to work on the damn watch. It works fine on the phone.
However, when I try to set Pay up to work on the watch, it keeps telling me to sign into Samsung Lay on the phone. When I go to the Gear app under settings, Samsung Pay is nowhere to be found. I've been reading the forums and it seems there are issues with international versions not working with other regions. However in my case, both devices are US.
Did Samsung leave out Samsung Pay out for S3 users with the unlocked phones? This is really frustrating!

I wish I could remember how the setup process worked. I have a Blackberry Priv (it is fully ANDROID) and it works. But I don't have a Samsung phone. If I recall, it was implemented in the Gear app on the phone. That's where I see it now. In the Settings Tab, below stuff like Apps, sent content, find my gear. Then there's S-health, S-Pay. Oh, USA, here. Watch purchased from Best buy. Phone from Verizon.

I have not followed the S-pay discussions in some of the other threads very carefully since it works for me. But maybe I recall that there might be some issue with Nougat (newest versions and S-pay??? You know the gray cells slip occasionally. I've read those threads but not in detail. There may be some reference to using earlier versions of Spay on the watch????

I have a rooted international S8+ and I followed these steps and got SPAY working on the watch (but not on the phone). ANyway, have a look...
Did you setup Samsung Pay on your phone as the phone app? Make sure you're logged in there.
Also, if you go into Gear app, see here where mine is shown.

I got my unlocked S8+ direct from Samsung a few days ago, Samsung Pay was setup and works fine. Tonight I tried setting up Samsung Pay on my S3... couldn't figure out why it wouldn't setup... I used it fine with my S7 Edge (previous phone).
Samsung Pay doesn't show up in the Gear app.

Ok, I figured I wasn't the only one here with that problem. I installed the new updated for the US Unlocked S8+ and am still having that problem. Ugh, super frustrating. Love the watch, just want the Samsung Pay feature to work without having to flashing a carrier CSC.
I bought my S7edge from dubai and gear s3 frontier from US. I flashed UK csc from sammobile. Samsung pay was activated on the phone on the day it was released in UK. SPay was available on gear when it was released in US. Only problem i faced on gear was Zipcode input was only numbers and couldnt input letters. So put 00000 and it worked. Im using spay on both phone and gear.
Here is what Samsung support said. I called Samsung Pay and they put in a ticket about my issue. Hope they release an update that allows the unlocked phone to work with the S3 Samsung Pay!!!

And make sure you turn off Wifi and not to update during initial setup!!!
A new update for Gear Pay was pushed out to my phone today that solved the earlier issue of the pay app details not showing up in the main Gear app, which leads me to believe that the 955U1 has been completely whitelisted now. Note that my Gear Pay never stopped working since I moved from the VZW to the Official XAA unlocked firmware without erasing the data. Give it a shot folks.
So I feel like our complaints have been heard, new update pushed today that has it working as it should, no work around and I was able to update everything fully and still have samsung pay on my watch!!
Just downloaded the update. Good to know this has officially been fixed!!

I just received the update on my unlocked S8+ today a few hours ago. It does indeed fix the problem. Although I'm not at all impressed by the changes... even though I have cards added to the phone, I had to go through the ENTIRE process of registering cards to the watch... regardless of being able to select a picture of the card... you still have to do everything. Again.

Using SPay on Gear S3 when phone is locked out of SPay

Hi all.
I'm thinking about buying a Gear S3 Frontier. I'm currently using a rooted S7 Edge that does not pass the Safetynet stuff, and SPay won't run on the phone either - I get advised that the phone is locked out of SPay.
My question is: Will I still be able to use SPay on the Gear via the Samsung Gear app, or will I be locked out of using SPay on the watch as well?

I am using it and it's working fine on my rooted S8 plus. You have to run magisk to root and hide the Samsung pay apps plus remove sign of busybox from xbin folder.

I am using it and it's working fine on my rooted S8 plus. You have to run magisk to root and hide the Samsung pay apps plus remove sign of busybox from xbin folder.

Hey, sorry about the delayed reply, I don't recall getting a notification of a response to my post.
So you're using Samsung Pay on your Gear S3 without a problem, with the Samsung Pay native app on the phone not working?
I can't use SPay on the phone, it says the app is locked due to "unauthorised modification" etc...
Yes Samsung pay is working great on my S3 but not on my phone because it's rooted (S8 plus).

Nice. So you add cards via the Gear app I assume? Is there any functionality that isn't there?
Sorry for the questions, I don't own a Gear S3 yet (currently using a Pebble Time Steel) and don't really have a reason to change at this stage unless SPay works well on the S3.

As far as I can see I get full functionality, I can add cards from the gear app I guess it's totally separate from the Spay for the phone. It's really good paying with the watch very convenient.

Heheh so here's the issue now... the Gear S3 I bought is an HK version. Pay doesn't appear to be enabled on the watch. I installed a sideloaded version of the SPay plugin for Gear but when I run it, it says I need an HK SIM card in my phone to install Pay.
I think I can get one of these (an HL travel SIM should work) but I don't know if it will only work with that SIM installed, or if I can just "activate" SPay and then add my cards in afterwards.
Another complication might be that even if I can do this, the fact that my credit card is Australian and not HK might cause a problem as well *sigh*
Thoughts?
