New phone suggestions - General Topics

So I'm looking to buy a new phone soon to replace my sgs4+ and i was wondering if anyone new of any good ones out there. I am having trouble finding anything that's kinda what i want. As i am kinda particular about what i want its a bit hard to find something that suits me. Any tip / recommendation is greatly appreciated☺☺
So here's some of the features my dream phone would have. I am kinda flexible so any suggestions are welcome
1. MicroSD slot
2. "off screen navigation buttons" if you will, same as my current phone..?
3. customisability! Rootable and if possible cyanogenMod (or similar (AOSP)) availability also TWRP would be nice
4. BATTERY!!!! good sized battery, if possible removable and expandable
5. Screen 5 - 6 inch amoled preferably with good resolution
Soo that's kinda what I look for in a new phone # 1&2 are kind important the rest not as much but still important though
I don't now of anywhere where you can look for phones by specs so I'm turning to you all for help, just like I've gotten here on XDA before!??
Cheers
Sorry for long post attached there should be a potato bear... I dunno I'm new at this

Hi there,
There are threads already established that are devoted to discussions about devices, please read, and if necessary, repost your question in one of these threads: The what should I buy thread or the The Device Suggestion Thread or the The Device Comparison Thread.
There are also several other discussion threads that you probably should review to help you. They are What phone do you wish you had? or

I will have to close this one. Thanks for understanding.

Which phone would you get for 240€/320$?

Hey guys, I dropped my old smartphone (LG L9) into the toilett and will get money from my insurance company to get a replacement phone. The amout is mentioned in the title. Now my question is, which phone would you take and why? I personally would **** to have the Moto G for its' quite good specs and reviews, although I am a bit concerned taking a Motorola smartphone... just due to their history now. It has pretty much evrrythjng I need. A decend camera (I know, not the best), very good battery life, fm radio, a good screen, which is also not too big and fits in my pocket nicely and also has a lot of support on the custom ROM side. Because as many other here, I tend to suffer from obsessive ROM flashing disorder how about winstupid phones? Are they stkill that bad? Oh and no I dont want to have an iPhone... I currently have the ... lets call it pleasure to use one. Definitly not my type of phone
So feel free to post your suuggestions or move this thread to wherever it belongs
Thanks in advance!

Top 5 Camera Smartphones

http://www.bubblews.com/news/5596883-top-5-camera-smartphones
Hello Everyone!!
I have recently been researching into the "camera" criteria of smartphones. And I found that there are pretty awesome smartphones with great cameras out there.
So, I just thought I'd make a list about them. And of course, this is my list, your thoughts on this issue might vary.
Number 5: It's the HTC One. It's supposed to be the best android smartphone out there, and it really is! The camera is awesome too! The UI is pretty basic and simple and it has some good color saturation...

Need new phone - Advice wanted

Hello,
I have a Samsung Exhibit II 4G (2.3.5) and need a new phone. The ExII is just too slow and irritating. My wife has a Sony Xperia T (4.3) and I am not so pleased with it either.
My big complaint is the instability caused by memory filling with apps that I/we don't use. I don't use a phone for social media or movies and do very little texting. I do write my own apps with Eclipse that make it a worker for my engineering work so do want a smart phone. I have tried a few root ROMs on the ExII but it always becomes unstable and will lock up or refuse to boot at the worst times.
I am looking for models that users either have rooted and are stable or didn't need to be rooted to keep them running fast.
I prefer smaller screens (4-4.5") and less than $300 but will go outside those bounds if I gain stability.
Any suggestion are appreciated.
Happy Trails

Nexus 5 or something else?

Hello
I think my Desire Z might have just died. I was waiting for Project Ara to produce something but after they have announced a worthless test run in Puerto Rico I have no choice....
My 1st choice from the start has been the Nexus 5. The ability to choose and every ROM is I think awesome.
I also looked at the Samsung Galaxy K zoom but I have quickly discarded it as I see no ROM development.
So, should I go with the Nexus 5 or do you recommend something else?

Yes, because everyone else knows the rule that any and all 'what phone should I get' questions go in the designated thread.

Well depends on your budget that is. Nexus 6 is too costly and Nexus 5 is the right money for the right device. But if I were I would look into the OnePlus One.

Yes, because you and others, find it so fun to go thru a 1237 page thread were there are dozens of people asking and talking about what phone to get.
And AFAIK, there is no rule that asking what phone to get with my requirements and/or price range should belong in that thread.
Just look at the first post:
mines is either galaxy s3 or galaxy note for t-mobile

It doesnt even state a guideline, requirements, etc.....I could put Im getting a Nexus 5 and nothing else.
Im sorry for brutally owning you like that but someone has to do it

Yeah, price range for me would be Nexus 5 but that is dynamic depending on what else is out there.
I have been recommended the OnePlus One (or Two) as well. The only issue I have with it is that they are going now with this is OxygenOS (yet another distro of Android just like Linux has Ubuntu, Debian, Red Hat, etc.) and I feel that is a stepback. Also, I really miss that it has no microSD (this is getting more common also this applies to the Nexus 5) and no wireless charging. But, it is a awesome phone nonetheless.

If you call that owning you haven't been on the internet long enough. I'm a woman on the internet. I'm used to far worse.
If you'd taken a minute to see why all other threads identical to yours end up locked, you'd see that the collective mod reply is identical to mine.
But if you require an example, here:

Bro I'm a Linux user, I know what distros are an I also know about OxygenOS but CM and PA still officially supports the OPO. So I don't see the problem here. You can always wipe and flash
And secondly about the storage, The Nexus 5 16GB costs $349 And the OnePlus One 64GB costs $349 so its a better deal than the Nexus plus the One had a better hardware from all aspects. Plus a lot of sensors. So it's still up to you which one your prefer man.

People don't read from the beginning. They read the most recent posts. Because they're not stupid, and (usually) don't reply to posts that are several years old. Frankly, I'm surprised this thread hasn't been locked/merged already.
That said, look at the LG G2. Same guts as the Nexus 5, but with a far superior camera, much bigger battery, and slightly bigger screen (in practically the same size body). Development doesn't match the Nexus 5, but that's like saying aftermarket customization doesn't match a Honda Civic. Alternative, but a bit more expensive (yet still cheap), there's the OnePlus One. It's basically an unofficial Nexus 5.5.
Lg g2, a better nexus 5 with a low street price

1st thread - Closed because it was replied to a year later
2nd thread - Closing it doesnt even make sense. Its a tablet thread and it gets redirected to a smartphone thread?
3rd thread - Very little information
4th thread- First reply, is a spamfest of websites
5th thread - Asking for chinese products and then getting like 5 a spamfest of websites
6th thread - Same as 4 and 5
7th thread - This one takes the cake. How can you ask about two phones, for whatever reason, and have the thread closed?
If its going to be like that, my suggestion towards XDA is simply close all sections including phone sections except phone development sections . If XDA strictly wants to dedicate itself to development and wont allow simple questions, then fine. But come on, closing some of those threads were pathetic more so the tablet ones.
Make a entire subsection for "What device should I get". This way you dont have clutter in the general sections.
Also, it is pathetic that you use the sex card to make yourself look like a victim. I am disgusted by your attitude when there are women around the globe being sexually harrassed and even burned. You should feel ashamed of yourself for even mentioning after getting owned that you are a woman. Very disrespectful.

Thats the exact problem: Someone posts "I want a phone" on page (lets say) 500. Same day a couple of people post the same thing and now the thread is at page 502. People wont go back to page 500 to help that person, they will just go to 502 and help whatever they see on that page.
It is TOO long of a thread to have a continous discussion about one member's option.
The real issue here is that xda has a lot of users. If even a small fraction of them opened threads to ask for advice on which device to purchase then many "more important" threads would get buried by the sheer volume of these threads. xda doesn't want to ban these discussions outright, so there currently are 3 threads devoted to discussions about devices, please repost your question in one of these three threads: The what should I buy thread or the The Device Suggestion Thread or the The Device Comparison Thread.
Thanks!

New Device Suggestion

Hello, dear community. I am not quite sure I am posting in the correct subforum, but please forgive me if I m doing this wrong. So I love my smartphone. I used to have a One Plus One, which at some point stoped reading the sim card, so I was forced to find a replacement. While searching I stumbled uppon LG v10. I remember I really liked this phone when it came out and I was dreaming of purchasing it, so I did. I found it almost new for $200 which seemed to be too good to be true. I loved certain aspects of the phone, but I grew to hate some others. First of all, it was a nightmare to root and put custom stuff on it. Then for some reason, it was a very slow phone, full of lag most of the times. Anyways, a couple of months after the purchase, the phone just died. It entered a boot loop state and now I can't even enter TWRP on it, so I've decided to move on and search for another device. Could you suggest to me any device?
What I put more weight on my devices are:
1. Easy root, good XDA community with custom roms. I love having the latest version of Android even if it has some bugs.
2. Good camera. I guess everyone likes that. I am a photographer and I like to push the limits of my device when it comes to photography.
3. A good bonus would be to be water resistant ip67 would do the job.
4. Budget not more than $400 (used or new)
5. A big battery would be a +
6. 1080p screen resolution is just fine for me.
Thanks in advance,
Theo
