This phone is garbage due to poor Motorola quality. I’ve had it for a month and going to sell it on eBay. If the phone worked the way it should, it would be perfect because I like the qHD display and compact size, however, the other quality problems make this phone a bad choice. Here’s the issues I’ve experienced: Can’t use my class 10 32GB Micro SD card because pictures keep getting deleted/corrupted, random reboots, and random signal losses. Also, knowing that the bootloader is locked, not able to store files on internal memory, and having the charging port on the side instead on the bottom sucks too. Another issue I’ve noticed, it seems that many good games don’t run on this processor, especially the Gameloft ones.
I think Motorola gave up on development once they knew Google was buying them. From now on, I’ll stay away from Motorola products until they clean up their act. It’s a shame really. I've had many Android phones, including the Galaxy Note, Galaxy S2 Skyrocket, Nexus 1, Evo 3D and all the iphones and this has to be one of the worst phones I ever had.
I hope my new HTC Vivid I ordered is a better replacement, I know HTC just started to unlock all their bootloaders a few weeks ago. I would prefer the Skyrocket overall, but I'd rather have the high res qHD screen on the Vivid.
Class 10 is pretty much unnecessary in phones anyways, although it is annoying if you already have one. There will eventually be workarounds for Tegra/Gameloft games, we have custom ROMs in the works (ICS in alpha already), a whole campaign going to get the bootloader unlocked, and mine runs fantastically. No reboots, beautiful screen, great camera, and snappy as hell.
K cool, cya!

You got lucky. I even have a dark spot you can only see on gray backgrounds near the center. It seems hit or miss with this phone because Motorola has some serious quality control issues. I still don't understand how they didn't fix the class 10 SD issue, alot of people have class 10 cards these days. You can buy 32GB Class 10 for near 30 to 40 bucks if you look around.
Sorry you had bad luck with your Atrix 2...I love mine. Good luck with your Vivid...
You're changing to a vivid? And you think the A2 is garbage. Best laugh I've had all day.Enjoy 1/3 the battery life and twice the weight.

I just need something to hold me for a few months until the Galaxy S3 with a quad core or an iPhone 5 with a big screen comes out. The Vivid now has custom ROMS and an unlocked bootloader, so I don't think it will be too bad.
Se ya!
You know this was a completely wasted post in this community, right? And an insult to those in here working their arse off for people like you and others here to make this phone something to completely blow peoples socks off.
If you had a bad phone, that happens I have gotten them from old Compaqs, and Samsungs, Handsync / Palm, and yes even HTC and Apple. It happens but just because you had a bad phone does not make it crap.
Now stop messing up our community with junk like this.

I wish I had your money to throw away on phones. ROM's are trickling in for the Atrix 2 as we speak...and there is a workaround for most of the issues you have cited. Again, good luck with your Vivid.

I apologize, I got pretty frustrated. I was waiting for the bugs to get fixed by the hard working devs, but yesterday when I had 7 random reboots at work, I had enough. Today it hasn't rebooted and works normal, this phone must be possessed by a gremlin.

Ebay it. I hardly ever lose money on phones. I got this Atrix 2 brand new for 335, I got the a white Vivid thats also new for 387. I can probably sell the Atrix 2 and get my money back. Most likely I'll only lose a 50-100.
Let me break this a little bit ^_^v
Can’t use my class 10 32GB Micro SD card because pictures keep getting deleted/corrupted, random reboots, and random signal losses.
- http://developer.motorola.com/products/atrix-2-mb865/ It doesn't say it supports Class 10 or rather any class but it has been proven that class 4/6 works flawlessly.
Also, knowing that the boot loader is locked,
- Well you know only selected few comes out with boot loader unlocked, a little research will save you some time and money ^_^
not able to store files on internal memory
- Yeah that sucks but its good to keep everything on SD just in case your phone fails you still get to salvage your precious photos and backups.
and having the charging port on the side instead on the bottom sucks too.
- Did you look at the product before you buy?
Another issue I’ve noticed, it seems that many good games don’t run on this processor, especially the Gameloft ones.
- I believe most gameloft hd games for android are only supported by tegra devices but that is soon to change i think if not there is CF3d.
I think Motorola gave up on development once they knew Google was buying them.
- Probably that is why this community has great devs working on the A2.
From now on, I’ll stay away from Motorola products until they clean up their act.
- Hard to know when they will clean up their act

Hello guys
i need the stock Motorola ROM for the phone for the Atrix ME865
any one can help me from where can i get it
i manage to found only the Chinese one which is waste of time due that everything is in Chinese language and even if you choose English some icon and options remains on Chinese i also manage to get the AT&T version for first is for the MB865 and second the software is lock only for AT&T sim card so no 3G connection
Please help me some one
Thanks
This phone is near flawless. As good a phone as it gets. It did not work with your 32GB card is not the reason to trash it. I have a class 6 16GB in it and it works fine, A little bit of research on whether something works or not is all you needed. I would spend 15$ on a 16GB card and keep the phone instead of getting a Vivid.... And of course, sell 32GB card on ebay....;-)
You should have got an exchange when you found the dead pixel. May be you got a bad unit.

I did the same but with the Sandisk's new mobile ultra (class 6 standard) 16gb. A couple bucks more but better build quality and less likely to malfunction from my experience. It even says x-ray proof...
Interesting that you come here to complain about your problems and frustrations with the phone. Motorola would be the one to one to talk to, although it'd get you no further than you have here. It has it's issues, but most of us here are satisfied and have no deal-breaking issues.
im coming from a galaxy s II, i also have an iphone 4s, This has been my daily driver. It is a great device as it stands, i can't wait till we have some seriously tweaked ROMs/kernels... I honsestly cant disagree more, i think motorola makes a great product, and once google really puts their stamp on them the phones will be unstoppable. I do agree that there can be more dev support, but it will come, and its almost nice to see that i can flash a ROM and not have version 1,2,3 and 4 come out before i boot up!!
I have a 32gb microsd card in my phone, never had any problems with it. I cant remember exactly what card it is, (its nothing special I know that) but some 32gb cards for sure do work.

I like my A2, but there are alot of issues that Motorola needs to fix, and I feel like they have put A2 on backburner and just wish they would say whether or not A2 is getting ICS.

I could not agree with you more!
I'm running cm7.2 on my Motorola defy, and due to a need for more storage(64gb sd support) I am upgrading. I primarily do emails, music, and occasional photography and web browsing.
I am looking for a phone that has:
- Some sort of cyanogenmod support, official would be preferable.
- 64gb sd support.
- Decent battery life.
- 8mp camera, a good lense would also be nice.
- Gorilla glass.
- Smaller than the Galaxy S2, as my hands are too small.
- Decent specs.
I had a look at the htc sensation(not 4g), and it looked fine- except I've heard things about it overheating, and having abysmal battery life. I had a look at anker batteries, and the like but getting them shipped to my country would be expensive. It's my primary choice currently, but I'm still iffy about it, hence this thread.
Thankyou in advance.
Even though the Development is fantastic, I didn't find the Sensation much chop.
So far, the 64GB card has worked for me in:
HTC Vivid 4G
LG Nitro HD
Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100
Samsung Galaxy Note N7000 and i717
Dell Streak 5
HTC Incredible S (a bit patchy - required a few formats before it recognised)
There are some reports of it working in the Motorola Atrix also, although I didn't try it.
Hope this helps! It probably works in a lot more, these are just the ones I've tried personally
Thanks.
So as an opinion, would you recommend the Incredible S over the sensation if the two were relatively similar in price?
get the vivid or s2 9100, both fit ur needa to the T.

No. If they are similar in price, get the Sensation. The Incredible S, while excellent in everyday use, is much older on paper and is not worth the price of a Sensation.
The Development for Sensation here makes it a good phone. The only reasons I didn't like it was the out-of-box performance (no modifications), and the fact that out of three units I've owned, two have overheated or shorted out and died completely. Those experiences just left a bitter taste for me
I'd recommend a Vivid/Raider/Velocity (all the same phone) over anything else HTC at the moment. It's a pity you can't be pursuaded to the size of the GS2, as that's the best all-rounder on the market currently
Sensation is good. but if you like smaller hanset, I think Xperia sola is good for you. it's dual core and the rest of the specs are good too. they dont say that if its capable to use a 64GB sd card, but you can try it anyway. its a lil bit pricy tho..
...alternatively you can consider Droid Razr. a 64GB sdcard works in Razr too,
The vivid is twice the price of the sensation, and I will not be able to take advantage of the 4g.
My step-dad has the S2, and it's very nice- but I'm only 5'8 and have girly hands, so I can't reach all of the screen. It's a bummer.
Due to the sensation's overheating problems, would you recommend avoiding it completely? I'm getting mine(regardless of the price) shipped from Australia, or Singapore so I'm not sure how htc are about warranty. I have had terrible overheating problems, fire and all that with hp computers and would rather not go down that road again.

What radio bands does your network use?
I found my Vivid right here on XDA for 300 dollars. Sensations here are around the 230 mark, so there isn't a whole lot of difference, unless you are looking at retail prices in which case there will be.
I personally will not touch another Sensation, but it may be completely bad luck on my part. There are plenty here who love it, and it's important to remember that for every member who raises an issue with their handset, there are 100 who have none
As far as warranty goes, handsets have to go back to country of origin for servicing if they are carrier branded. I believe an International warranty applied only on unbranded handsets - this may be incorrect though.
Even though I'm in Australia and ship a few phones myself, I'd recommend against sourcing from here if you can. Getting phones out of Australia is a nightmare due to silly Lithium battery regulations. I source most of my handsets from the US and Hong Kong Also, prices here are over-inflated for personal technology. We are one of the most expensive nations in the world for gadgets.
Out of curiosity, where are you located?
New Zealand. The prices for tech are stupidly high here, I would never buy in this country.
My network, 2degrees says "we run a 900MHz GSM network. Data is provided using both GPRS and EDGE technology. We provide HSDPA at 2100MHZ within our Mobile Broadband Zones. Outside our Mobile Broadband Zones we use 2G 900 MHz or 3G 2100MHz."
So those are the kind of specs I would need.
The Vivid is even bigger than the galaxy.. Wow. The sensation seems to be the same size, but feels a lot smaller. Maybe its the case my step-dad has on his. Will have to do a test.
Out of interest, how do you get phones on xda? Also how much is the S2 on here?

Yeah, you poor buggers get hit harder than what we do. How's petrol there these days? It was 1.80 a litre last time I was there. We're not far off that here, now
2100MHz 3G you'll get on just about every phone in existence, same with 900MHz GSM. I use a Vivid daily and it's marginally smaller than the GS2, and very close to the size of the Sensation (just heavier).
There's a Marketplace here on XDA. Unfortunately they've just put a rule in place limiting access for newer members. Average going price here for a GS2 is around US350 for a black model. White ones a little higher. You're lucky in that you can take any model and it will work so long as it's unlocked. You'll need to factor in shipping also, it's around US50 for a phone and US60 for a tablet to Australia, don't expect it'd be much more to NZ.
I don't drive, and for that I am glad. Things are expensive here.
Well, I won't be able to use the market place due to restrictions. So I will have to settle for an import. Is AUSD410 a good price for a sensation, as I have a relative who would be able to pick one up for me in Australia when they go.
When you mentioned the lithium customs problem, does that go for the luggage that is not the carry on?
Sorry if it's too many questions, it's just I'm a student and I don't want to sink my money into a bad phone.

Carry-on luggage doesn't seem to be a problem (at least domestically), I carried multiple phones/tablets with me on my last couple of trips and didn't run into any issues.
To be honest, that's GS2 territory price-wise. What's your budget, and what do you most desire?
I just really want a device that supports 64gb sd, has a decent camera, a good battery and isn't huge. I'm still really iffy about phones the size of the galaxy S2, because I just can't reach all of the screen. The Incredible S is looking tempting, because of the size and the fact people say good things about it's battery life.
I wouldn't want want to spend much more than NZD550, which is AUD430 and USD450.

There's quite aa few options in your budget, but the size limitation rules out the majority, although I definitely understand it. I don't think I could comfortably use any of my phones one-handed!
You should be able to pick up an Incredible S for around the AU300 mark. I'm not 100% sure on comparability with a 64GB card, mine did work eventually but it took a few formats and a bit of coaxing, it certainly wasn't just drop-in-and-go.
What about one of the newer Sony Ericsson phones, like the Arc or Arc S, or even the Ray might be a better fit for you?
Sent from my HTC Vivid
The arc S looks very nice, and there are some cases where people have been able to get 64gb cards to work on it. While the headphone jack placement is bad, it's of a good size and has a great camera. If you know of a way that I could buy one for a decent price, I would be very grateful.
Nice choice. There is limited difference between the Arc and Arc S (just a hifher-clocked SoC and 1080p video) and no size difference at all, so even if the Arc S is out of budget, there wouldn't be a lot of difference in taking the Arc instead.
Is the width of the GS2 the off-putting feature? The Arc is narrower and thinner, but about the same length overall?
I'll see what I can dig up for you

And the hight of the screen, I couldn't actually reach the status bar.
The arc is well within my price range, but I would like the faster processor of the arc s.
Thankyou so much for the help.

You can use this tool at PhoneArena to compare dimensions if you like. Remove the TyTN and add any four phones you like.
Chapest prices I could find you on the Arc S in Australia are eBay unfortunately. There are a couple here on the MP, but after shipping to Australia they'll come out more.
You're looking at around the 410 mark, that's including postage to Australia. I dug it up in white, silver and blue. I can't speak for the seller with the silver and blue units, but I can tell you that even though IMobilePhoneX send their stuff from Hong Kong, it is genuine and always factory fresh. I have dealt with them multiple times.
Anything else I can help with, let me know
Massive thanks.
I just order the arc S from IMobilePhoneX. Thanks for the recommendation. I assume it should be arriving before next Sunday, am I correct in that assumption?
Also, on a related note- are you running ICS, and if so is it really that much better than gingerbread?
Once again, thankyou.

My pleasure.
I would guess so. That gives it seven days from HK, which is possible as they usually use a courier.
I am running ICS, but am not the biggest advocate for it. I dislike the 'stock' ICS launcher/UI, and only enjoy ICS on my Vivid because it has Sense over the top. It takes a few cues from Honeycomb naturally, and I wasn't the biggest fan of that UI either.
Performance-wise it is a definite improvement, especially with the GPU now rendering the little things like homescreen flicking, opening/flicking the app drawer etc. ICS on the Vivid is much more fluid and responsive than GB (not that GB was bad by any means - ICS is just noticeably better).
What annoys me the most is that it breaks compatibility with my favourite launcher, LauncherPro. There's no development for it anymore either, so it's probably going to be that way for a long time.
It all comes down to personal preference on the look, but the performance and rendering gains are definitely there
So here goes, I can now get a Razr HD for free through Fido canada. Not a bad deal considering from what I can tell, this phone will be a perfect replacement for my Nexus S running 4.1.2
From the reviews I read online, people are really enjoying this phone and it seems to have a fairly pure android experience that, coming from a nexus device, I want. The main selling point for me is LTE and SDHC. These two things alone are what I am switching phones for mostly.
1. So I ask you this, would you reccomend this phone to someone else?
2. How is rom support? is it easy to unlock and load aftermarket roms on this like CM etc and does it take to it well?
3. How is the device quality physically? It looks terrific online.
4. Anything else you might add?
Thanks again for the help!

1. Yes. I am quite happy with my Rogers Razr HD.
2. Rom support so far is ... in progress. There's not a huge user base for this device yet and it's only been available since October. Rogers/Fido won't see Jellybean stock upgrade until "1st Quarter" which might be as late as March, provided they don't change the scheduling again. Having said that, France and Australia already have JB, so maybe we'll see it sooner than that. It is easy to unlock and load aftermarket roms, BUT you have to unlock it through Motorola and you void your warranty to do so. Just so you know.
3. Physical build is really good, imo. Battery life is excellent, screen is bright, volume is loud. Only weakness is the camera, which is mediocre.
4. There's no decent desk dock available for it yet. There's a car dock, and a couple crappy options for a desk dock but we might have to wait for a third party to make one. Also, hdmi out options are lacking ... As there are no options. IMO, it should allow screen off with hdmi on, or different resolutions output, but only has overscan and hdmi enable... And once you upgrade to JB, you lose overscan.

This is the way I look at it:
If you want custom ROMs because you actually enjoy playing around with new ROMs every two weeks (and intend to do so for the life of the device), then don't buy a Droid Razr HD now. Wait for the phone to get better support, or buy a Google Nexus branded device. You are looking for a tinker-toy more than you are looking for a reliable daily-use smartphone.
If you need a reliable daily-use smartphone, then the current state of ROM support is irrelevant. Sure, you are going to play around with custom ROMs to start. But eventually, you will settle on a ROM that you like, and then stick with that ROM for several months before changing. If that describes you, then you'll be fine getting a Droid RAZR HD. Remember, it's easy to improve on software (ROMs) after you buy a device. But once you buy hardware, you're stuck with it.

Basically changing the output resolution to eliminate black bars around the borders. The native resolution of the Razr HD is 1280x720, but it'll fill a webtop screen resolution of 1366x768 using hdmi overscan.
1 - I picked this up on Rogers and I'm pretty happy with it. Having a slightly less modified version of android is something I prefer since I'd rather do the tweaking instead of rely on manufacturers to decide what I need. Yeah, I'd recommend it but it depends how flashy people expect a phone to be out of the box.
2 - I bought it without expecting to root and fiddle with it for a year or two. That's because I don't think development for it will catch up until then since it's not nearly as popular as something like the S3, but also because it simply works right now. I have one phone and I need it to work every day so flashing roms frequently isn't something I have time for.
3 - It's just as nice as it looks online. It reminds me of an iPhone 4 / 4s with a more durable feel to it. I dropped my last phone onto steel from 20ft and it cracked the screen under the gorilla glass. This gives me a lot more confidence that the thicker first gen glass (as opposed to the thinner gorilla glass 2) will hold up to the occasional beating it takes at work.
4 - Motorola remembered to make this phone a phone. It seems a lot of companies forget that with smartphones. It's really nice to have a phone with a loud speaker, earpiece and fantastic reception. The whole time I had a Samsung Galaxy S I was battling with the quiet earpiece and yet with this I've answered calls at work with 32dB ear plugs in without issues.
I live in a city with some major dead spots and quite often my friends will realize they haven't had reception for hours and have missed calls while I maintain a couple bars. After making a switch to the Razr HD I'm always the last to lose reception :good:
hi
can someone let me know how the camera quality is? how does it do in low light settings and is the flash bright enough?
thx
I got this phone a few days ago from future shop on the 56$ promo plan. I've never had an android phone before, but so far i like the phone a lot. The kevlar on the back in the chevron pattern looks really nice and makes it stand out. It has a little lip that goes around the edge of the screen which i personally think is greatest idea ever. I dropped the phone from about 3 feet onto the sidewalk and it landed on the front facing corner of the phone. When i flipped it over the phone was undamaged. The camera isn't bad but isn't anything special either. If you decide to get the phone, get it from future shop. They offer a protection plan for 12$ a month, but you can convince them to throw some goodies in. I got a $150 in gift card and a 32gb micro sd card. The plan covers a replacement battery, but since the phone's battery can't be replaced, they will replace the phone with another phone for an equivalent value ($680 including tax).
I just picked this phone from Fido.
1: Physically speaking, this phone really looks nice ,but not ergonomic, maybe suitable for those guys with big hands.
2:Android experience is not so good, when my phone is on, there is always 1**M available RAM, not very smooth. I'am tired of rooting cell phones.I think if RAZR HD got updated to 4.2 would be very smooth.

I absolutely would, I have had many androids over the years and am loving this one so far.

2. How is rom support? is it easy to unlock and load aftermarket roms on this like CM etc and does it take to it well?

I noticed epinter is working on this phone, he was awesome for the Atrix 4G and still is....which means great roms support for us here.
I've already got Jellybean running even though Fido/Rogers won't be releasing the update until late January. There is a couple CM10 betas out but the best working one does not have bluetooth music working yet....so I'm holding off until then.

It has a wonderful build quality to it, mush superior to the Droid Razr that my room-mate has. I like that they did away with the stupid camera hump.

This was a no-brainer to me, even if I cancelled my contract with Fido in a few months I would have paid less for the phone through them than on ebay or elsewhere.
I know that you guys probably see dozens of these kinds of threads from confused geeks like me who just can't make up their minds, but I'm really stuck here. I've been up for hours reading about all of the handsets on the market right now and I just can't settle on one option that I like the best for my situation. I'm hoping that some of the more experienced users can help me out on this.
For context, I've been using an HTC Desire for the past two years no problem. I love the phone, but it is showing it's age and the internal memory is an issue. So I would like to get a new one, that can last me at the very least two more years. My budget is around 600 dollars.
I live in Canada, so the situation with carriers is pretty bad. I'm currently on Telus (HSPA+) and would prefer to own my phone so that I can bypass this whole contract crap and negotiate better prices for my monthly bills.
Anyways, boiled down, this is what I'm looking for:
Compatible with Telus HSPA+ Network (Rogers is a plus)
Either a MicroSD slot or 32+ onboard storage
At least 24 hours of battery life on a single charge
Decent performance, don't really play games but would like a lag free interface
Healthy hacking community
Good build quality and durability. It should be able to take a fall
Flash camera. Camera quality is a negligible factor but I use the flashlight every day.
Out of all of the devices I've seen thus far, I'm leaning most towards the OneX+. But I've also looked at the Galaxy Nexus and liked it as well. There is also the SGS3 but I think that phone is really ugly and don't really like it. Choices... choices... can I hear a voice of reason here?
What do you think about a Motorola Atrix 4G. It have a dual-core CPU (1Ghz), 16Go of internal memory + MicroSD slot up to 32Go. HSPA+ compatible, a great assembly quality with Kevlar. A high-capacity battery (more than one day of autonomy). A good healthed developers community.
I think it's the best phone for your requirements. It's not the all brand new smartphone, but you'll keep it for a longtime if you take care of it
GoL LuM
PS: I forgot to say it have two very powerful LEDs flash (more powerful than Galaxy S2 flash)
Sorry for my bad english

I hadn't though of that one actually. From the looks of it, everything that I want is there. However, from the development pages, it looks like Motorola is being quite active in suppressing the hacking community, especially by not providing them graphics drivers which leads to numerous bugs in ICS and JB. That might be a deal breaker for me unless an Atrix4G owner can weigh in and clear my suspicions.
Note 2 if that isn't too big for u! Idk y u don't like s3 but 20million + people who bought it can't go wrong! and u oughtta sacrifice somethin to gain somethin! Just sayin. Ur wish! And BTW one x + is great. Isn't nexus4 there? Cuz nexus is already too old!
Ps - and don't ever think of buying moto. I myself own an atrix2. They r too unresponsive / ignorant about their customers. Worst OEM ever. And they have everything locked down (bootloader), so not really much of development!

The Note2 is far to big for my tiny hands, haha. The reason I don't like the S3 is because of the garish chamfered edges and the design that basically screams "no we aren't copying apple" while not offering any real inspired design. It's just too unrelentingly samsung. While Moto might be the worst OEM, I think samsung is pretty close.
Nexus 4 is out of the question because of it's pathetic amount of internal storage and no MicroSD slot. Also it is basically a glass enclosed phone so it won't have the durability of something like the one x+.
Honestly, I think I am going to go with the One X+ because it seems that it has the best internal battery, great specs, though I will probably hobble it a bit for extra battery life with a more efficient kernel. Also it seems that it could survive re-entry into the atmosphere with that fused ceramic/metal enclosure.
Then again... I might just go with the S3. I mean it is butt ugly but it has everything that I want in a phone. MicroSD, removable battery, nice screen, hacking community... damn. It's really not making it easy on my that the phone costs 150 dollars less than the OneX+. Plus the button is on the side as opposed to the top, which is nice.

man all this screams SGS3 and your better off getting it. everyone has said how much they love it. I would avoid htc though, theyve been changing for the worse...
I've kept my eye on the G pro 2 for a while (was about to get the original O G pro, but waited for this to come out). So I'm well aware of the specs, features, reviews, etc. But what I want to know is a real world user's opinion of the device.
Is the phone pretty decent? Any frustrations or quirks to know before trying to get one?
Key questions:
*How is the Mic/voice quality? (sending and receiving during a voice call)
*How is the battery life(I know it depends on usage and habits of the user, but just overall, how would you rate it personally, compared to other current/comparable Android phones)?
*Is it relatively stable and responsive?
*What bothers you about this phone?
*Would you buy it again if you were in the market for a new phone right now?(tells me that you like the phone and are overall happy with it)
I plan on getting a F350(a bit confused with the S/L/etc. acronym endings, can any one shed light?) I want to use it on at&t's network. On paper, and seeing professional reviews, the G pro 2 seems like my phone (1080p 5.9" screen, expandable memory via microsdhc, user replaceable battery, decent camera, etc.) But I want to know, if in practice, the phone is stable/frustration free(relatively speaking), decent real world battery life (if it's competent/comparable at least.. ), hoping that this is not one of those, "you have to root it and install a custom rom in order for this phone to be bearable"- type thing.
My other considerable is the Sony Xperia Z2 (prices are right, even though the screen is smaller and the battery isn't "replaceable"). I didn't want the Samsung Galaxy series due to the smaller screens and bloatware they put on there(note's a great series, but simlar.. bloatware, plus really expensive).
Thanks! I appreciate any input!
these are my questions too..
I came from a Samsung S3 (running CM).
first impressions were: Nice clean looks and lines, it's big (but it's not unwieldy). my wife has a Note 3 and it's about the same. the curve along the back sides makes it more comfortable to hold. Obviously, it's a heavier phone due to size, so your hand might get tired if you're one to use your phone lying down or something.
Screen is fantastic. I have no problems with colour issues with the screen and it's bright enough for me, even outdoors.
Battery life is good. standby can last more than a day. in usage, i was a bit busy yesterday and didn't use it too much, but from 0700 to 2300, i had 63% before i plugged it in. on a more typical day, I'd probably have around 40%. mainly a mixture of whatsapp, a few blogs, games and some TV show watching at lunch.
Camera is decent and acceptable auto focus speed. not a lot of bloatware.
I'm running 10e firmware due to bugs in 10f and waiting for lollipop. 10e is stable. not had problems with it.
problems: it's not widely available and the user base is small. so don't expect any fancy mods/firmwares or anything like that. as such, there's not a lot of accessories for it either outside of LG's own stuff.
My friend has the Z2 (not looked, but isn't the Z3 pricing nearly the same now?), and his camera is better and the battery life is longer due to Sony's Stamina software. display is about the same. If you want a big, stock phone, the LG is great. if you want to play around and like to customise your phone, then i'd go with the Sony.
Thanks for your input Ray-Lee .
I'm on the fence between the two phones, I like the bigger screen on the G pro 2, I haven't held one yet in person, but I don't think I"ll be bothered by it at all. Only thing that really entices me for the Z2 are the current prices for it right now.. for relatively similar specs, smaller screen, but better camera compensates. Honestly, I want the device to work well out of the box.. this is xda and I do play with custom firmwares and roms, but that's more of a result than a mission for me these days.. as in, if the unit runs better/faster/more stable compared to stock(or.. if stock is so horrendous that it must be rooted and flashed to be "decent").

Ive been using this phone pretty much since it came out (D838 rooted stock) and the stock Performance is fantastic if im honest it really doesn't need a custom rom unless you want to "mod" alot of things and even then as long as your careful theres still alot you can do with just root, i love this phone so much and its modified enough for my liking without a rom, its fine right out of the box and if you can live without a custom rom (which is really doesnt need that much) i think you'll be as happy as i am with this phone on stock with or without root.
But yes if you do like to flash and mess about alot go with the z2/note3 as there is more options there but this is still a brillant phone.

Thanks a lot for the assurance. I'm still bouncing around phone options, I guess it just comes down to price (best bang for buck, with expandable memory at least). I'm still considering the G pro 2, but I saw how the GS note 3 has come down a lot in price.
Thanks again!

I've had both and granted you can mess around with roms and stuff but for pure joy in use i much prefer the g pro 2 its a really really good phone and for the low price you really cant beat it in my opinion unless this phone gets a good recovery and cm11 ill never bother with costom roms ect. For me its perfect on stock the peformence is amazing, to date (about 6 months of owning this phone) the battery still amazes and im yet to see any lag ever!! The ui is amazing, for a phone out of the box you cant beat it if you like music it outputs brillantly im just in love so maybe im a little one sided but i hope whatever you do you will be happy! Let me know!

I only can agree with that!
I did get mine last week and i am very happy with it! Came from Galaxy Note 2 wich i liked very much but i dont trust Super Amoled Display technology since noone grants you that it will operate more than 3 years with heavy use. I chose this device because it has similar dimensions as the Note 2, stronger hardware, bigger 1080p reliable IPS LCD screen and fabulous 3200 mAh battery.
It's a must have for phablet lovers that want to have a good performing phone with large screen.
After just a few days of use this is my opinion. On software side is everything ok, just the usual Kit Kat problem that bugs lots of users out here, tha lack of having permissions for apps to write to sd card. That was the only thing that bothered me, but thats on Google side. This phone is truly amazing!
Hope that helps the peple to choose the best device for their specific needs. I found mine definitely.
Thank you for the input bhun and derbyshire! I really like the phone and want to get it, but for me the G pro 2 shipped from Asia to the US (I need the F350 model for LTE compatibility), it's about $600, I'm going to wait out just a little longer, it's a bit out of my budget (was hoping to score a phone for less than $450.. Sony Z2 and ZU did fit that for me, but not anymore either, haha).
I'm glad to hear that it's a great phone though(G pro 2), hopefully the prices will come down a bit for the F350 model and I can obtain one soon. Thanks again to all who have contributed!

The things that bother me about this phone are the poor wifi signal, I can be within a meter of my router and it still fluctuates between 3 and 4 bars. Any less than 4 bars wifi signal seems to have a noticeable impact on browsing performance. I also find the mobile data hotspot a pain, every so often the connection would hang and you would have to turn data off and back on again to get it to work. It seemed to do that every hour or so. Also if the phone gets even minutely warm, the brightness level will restrict itself to between 80% and 90%. I have had 3 LG G Pro 2 and they have all been the same. I also notice some flickering at times, especially when there is a white background on a webpage. I am almost fed up of mine and looking at selling it soon. It does have the potential to be a good phone, and I think all the faults I mentioned could be fixed with a decent firmware update.
I agree with you on wifi reception, its been the worst amongst all the phones i have owned
