Is it bricked for good? - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

HELP! I flashed a rom to my tablet and now when I try to turn it on it gets stuck at the nvidia screen I can't get into the bootloader. When I press the Volume down + Power the tablet goes into a black screen. When I plug it into a computer while at this black screen it says that it in apx mode. What to do from here?

You need to provide way more detail.

You can't do anything with apx. If you want to do anything you need to get into recovery/bootloader. Simply flashing a rom wont cause you to not be able to access the bootloader. Did you flash a stock rom to a recalled tablet without removing the ota apk?

Nope, your tablet is bricked for good unless nvidia releases the sdk.

What ROM did you flash?

[Q] My tablet wont boot, only a black screen thats blank.

I cannot seem to get my gtab to boot anymore. I was in the middle of flashing it a week ago and I hit the power button in the middle of the process, and it shut off. I have been unable to boot it beyond a black screen since then.
I tried to put cwmod on the microsd card and hold power + volume up while booting but nothing happens.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix it?
Yeah - I bricked mine as well trying to get rid of the birds. Will post link to my fix shortly.

Awesome, thanks guys nvflash did the trick!
help!
I had a very similar issue but I don't see how nvflash will help. My tablet refuses to load at all after a failed rom attempt. I don't get the load screen and I definitely can't do the power + volume button reset.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Note that nvFlash is power - volume, not power + volume that's used to get into recovery mode. while using nvflash, you need to have tablet to be connected to the pc in order to run nvflash. when power - volume is pressed, screen appears to be turned off on the tablet, until you run nvflash.bat on pc to push the stock rom. Hope that helps..
The black screen after the "birds logo" or even when you power on and don't get the logo is when the tablet is stuck in APX mode. It is hard to tell the difference between tablet off and tablet on in apx mode.
The best thing to do is plug in USB to the PC and see if the tablet shows up as a device (check device manager on Windows). If there is nothing popping up in Dev. Manager then try pressing the power button again to turn it on. Even though the screen still looks off, the device should come up and you can access it with nvflash.
As others have said, using nvflash to get back to stock, or even just flashing CWM recovery will sometimes work.

[Q] HELP>>>>>>>Bricked my TF300T

Hi All..
My TF300 is unlocked. I installed the new JB and then I was trying to install CWM. I used fastboot to push it to the device. When I rebooted, holding down the volume button, It came up to the menu with RCK, USB, etc. I selected wipe data by accident. It sat there for a while saying it was going to wipe and go into the boot loader. After a while I shut it off thinking it was hung. Now when I power on the device I get only the ASUS startup screen. Volume up or down don't affect the mode. It just says "The Device is Unlocked" at the top, and the static ASUS logo in the middle. When I plug in the USB to my Windows 7 computer I get nothing in the device listing. I can't even fully turn the device off. Holding power for a few seconds, it goes off, and then it comes right back on by itself.
I think I'm totally bricked, right? It won't even go into APX mode it appears.
thanks ...

When you hold down the power button to turn it off, as soon as the screen goes off, let go of the power button and hold the VOL up button. Wait a second or so and then let go of the VOL button. The tablet should go into APX mode. It can be quite hard to time it right, but the tablets screen should stay blank, without rebooting.
thanks for ur care
i forget to update the post ...sorry
.....i do that and my pc show apx driver but fastboot did not work ....
how can i use fastboot again to install bolb again ?????????
thanks in advance

I've been searching the web for two weeks - nobody has a solution !
I've tried everthing.
Asus has a way to reset the OS as several owners have sent their unlocked "Bricked" tablets to their service center.
Last repair I read online stated that Asus returned their TF300T with the latest version of JB installed.
Asus would be Wise to post a solution - Imagine the goodwill that would generate.
Many thanks...
Q:did asus change mother board?
Or it kind of software fixed
I read about SKB..... What sbk?

[Q] Asus TF300T bricked. Black screen and APX mode only. I'm desperate!

Hello to everyone. I beg your help, please. I bought this amazing second hand tablet last friday. At the first attemp, and because I didn't want to read all the threads, I bricked the tablet. Yes, stupid thought, I know.
Because I wasn't happy with the result, I wiped all and delete bootloader, system, data... Everything. I know something with Microsoft issues and brave me (and silly) I thought It was similar, that I could start from outside of the tablet even if it was blank.
Anyway, the facts are:
The tablet is allways on, in APX mode. When I press down the power boton, it reboot. I know because when it's conected to my laptop, I can see the USB interface conected and the APX mode on it.
The screen is allways in black. ALLWAYS. No matter if I try to start in recovery in bootloader or any other way to start the system. Black, nice black.
Of course, no result in Power + Vol up, Power + Vol -, pressing power during 3 hours and 23 minutes... (I'm joking), but for long.
The only signal by which I know that it's not dead at all its when I conect the charger. I can see the small orange light in the power buton saying: "I'm alive"
Ok, I don't know what to do. I've read during the weekend as much as I could, tried evrything and nothing fixed. If it helps, before playing to be God, I had Android 4.0.1, I unlocked the bootloader with the apk, I installed the TWRP recovery and everything were right until I wanted to update the rom. Some mystakes that I don't remember and this is what I can tell you. Any holy soul which can help me, please? If not, can anyone help me? Thank you and I'll be looking forward your help.

Are you able to access fastboot? If so, flash the STOCK ASUS 4.0.1 Rom again. The mistake I think you made was flashing a ROM not compatible with the bootloader you have. You first have to update the bootloader to 4.1.1 or 4.2.1 to flash any of the current ROMS.
No fastboot, no bootloader update.

Thanks for the reply:
I can't access fastboot. The tablet does nothing, just allways on in APX, so I can't update the bootloader. Neither I can't switch it off. I've read smething about run out the battery and start a process with ODIN?
I haven't tried it before, but maybe there's a way to create a bootable SD that will automatically install one of the stock ROMs so you can start over again?
If you can't get to the bootloader/fastboot/recovery and only have APX and no back upped NVFlash files then I think you are bricked unfortunately
hi is there any solution to solve this problem, or tablet dead
I'm in the same situation! :crying:
no solution???
Same story
Same here -- black screen, PC recognizes it as an APX device, but neither fastboot nor adb seem to work.
I didn't even try to mod mine. I was just using it normally, and it crashed, and now all it does is give me a black screen. When I poke the reset button, my PC notices the device disconnection and then a minute later it re-connects, but still nothing.
Holding down volume up/down during reset does nothing. Holding down power, with or without volume buttons, for an extended period does nothing.
This looks to be like an epidemic problem for these devices. Has nobody gotten a handle on it yet?
pty
I am also in your situation.
I have a tablet with Tegra xperia 3, black screen! APX mode only!
Does not read any adb and fastboot driver!!
There are new?
Hi everyone,
for me now the same situation. Only APX aviable. no fastboot ect...
pls help me solve this issue.
Thanks a lot.
Turn on in APX-Mode. You won't see anything on the screen, the display does not turn on.
If you connect the USB cable to a Windows PC, Windows will recognize it as an APX device.
On this mode you may use nvflash tool http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1969797.
If nothing works, you should exchange the Mainboard!

[Q] HELP did OTA update - bricked shield

I literally know nothing about android, this is my first device.
I was doing the OTA update to kit kat, and now all that happens when I boot my shield is a little dead android man and it says "No Command"
I have tried to do the factory reset as details on nvidias site
but after it reboots I get the same message
What can I do? I imported my unit into the UK and nvidia do not have any warranty support :'(
Did you try to download this: https://developer.nvidia.com/gameworksdownload#?search=SHIELD%20Recovery%20OS%20Image&tx=$additional,shield (grab update 65 as it has Windows binaries)?
Putting your device into recovery mode (hold ABXY, left bumper left trigger, power on) and run the batch file.
There's no such thing as a bricked NVIDIA device NVIDIA Recovery Mode is the best.

Do I connect it to the PC before booting into recovery mode? Will running the file automatically detect the shield and begin installation?
thanks for the help, I could honestly cry since I bought my shield in the UK I have no warranty :/ :highfive:

If I do this the shield log in the middle lights up but the screens stays black
If i boot up with the back and home button and power - it says bootloader - then says device locked
Doing as vostok4 said should bring your SHIELD back to life. Just a quick question though: have you rooted your SHIELD, installed CWM recovery or twiddled with it whatsoever after unlocking the bootloader? Because if you haven't, and if the OTA process completed normally, there is no reason for it to end in that state and you should maybe contact NVIDIA and report that issue.
In any case the SHIELD is a hard device to brick, so don't worry, it should be back to life soon.

You are correct, the screen should stay black. It will only light up with text when you send the bootloader over with nvflash.
There should be a driver with that image download, it doesn't matter if you have it connected to the PC before or not. But you will need to have a driver installed, and then the OS image should have a batch file you can run to just kick it off.
The device will be something like "NVIDIA USB Recovery Mode Device" or something like that. If you have linux no driver needed

Stuck on boot screen

Hello,
i am new here on forum. I read alot threads about unbrick TF300T on this forum, but cant find answer for my problem.
My tablet is unlocked, rooted and had TWRP installed. When i try to use TWRP my tablet restarted and now i am stuck on boot screen.
Its screen with asus and nvidia logo with information that device is unlocked.
When i try connect tablet to pc, pc dont see it.
Power + Volume- dont work, no boot options - tried like 50 times
Power + Volume+ dont work, i think its for APX mode
Tried restart with restart hole under volume buttons.
I cant go to other screen just that one with logo. Even cant tablet shut down. When i press and hold power button it just restart and logo screen again.
Any ideas how to make it work again, or its completly broken?
Ty for your answers.
