Not much activity here, but a lot more than for the current phone I have which is the original Samsung Galaxy Nexus. I'm thinking about getting the S6, but wondered if developers have abandoned this phone yet? If not, what ROM is the most often updated and which do you recommend?

Since you posted here in the Verizon section i'll assume your talking about the Verizon S6. DO NOT GET THAT PHONE. You will hate yourself like me and good portion of us for getting it. Every major carrier has root except for verizon on this phone, complete and utter horse. ****. Spare yourself and get a nexus 6 or even the s7 which has root now. But this phone fell flat and devs moved on, only a few remain.

Ah looking to spend no more than $320 for a phone. Not going to be shelling out $400+ anymore. Any other suggestions?

If you can find a Nexus 6p or if that's too big or expensive, a Nexus 5x. But I also heard good things about ZTE Axon 7

Don't get a nexus S, its a hardly upgraded vibrant that was a complete waste of money on release. I bought a used one for 180 and gave it to my 5 year old sister it was such a letdown.
If you really must have a developer phone when wait for the Galaxy Nexus. Otherwise, I recommend any of the Samsung branded phones. I love my Galaxy Captivate, my wife uses the new Galaxy Infuse and the Galaxy S II looks bad-ass IMO.

I don't completely disagree, although the Vibrant was priced similarly just anywhere I looked (at least in my part of Canada back when I bought mine).
Sometimes wish I got the Vibrant for the Gorilla glass, but I'm definitely loving the dev community the Nexus S has. That's what is really making me feel like I made a good decision.

Enough in my honest opinion, seeing how some lesser phones still get development for a few months after becoming "obsolete" in the sense of their technology getting slightly outdated.
Nevertheless, I think all Nexus models will get decent development, judging from the Nexus One and S.
It's a game nobody will win, technology is forever going further and the moment you buy something, there's something new right around the corner or already available on the market. You can always decide to play the waiting game if you're not in need for a change right now, just don't get stuck waiting forever...

A damn lot! Look at the Nexus One! If I'm not mistaken, Dr Kmobs from cyanogenmod is still using and developing for his. The nexus One was either the first or second device to get an ICS SDK port. Not everyone can afford the latest and greatest, any dev phone will get a fair amount of custom ROM love. If you can get a good deal on a nexus S, and you think its what you want, go for it. You aren't gonna be left behind any time soon. That said, if you want the very latest and greatest, get a galaxy nexus, its a huge upgrade.

Nothing like a huge cover to keep it from getting scratched!
Can't wait for the day our phones are near indestructible bricks lasting forever on a charge. It's sad to have such sexy technology getting covered with covers, enhanced with bulky batteries and needing to be constantly plugged in.
Likely the only reasons I miss the days I was using dumbphones, they were indestructible or of no real value, they would last a week on a charge and definitely did not cost as much.

my suggestion, watch Craigslist. My gs2 cost me 280 dollars like new.
I think xperia neo is also a good option.
I am getting it for the same price($359)
But I want to get the ICS update as fast as possible...
And acc. to you guyz wen will we get some used GALAXY NEXUS (NEXUS PRIME)
on ebay.com
I will strongly recommend you Samsung Galaxy S2 if your budget provides. Other than that, Nexus S is actually a pretty good phone (very good for this price). The next Google phone series is Galaxy Nexus which will be priced around 35k (INR). That may overkill your budget.
Better stick with Nexus S. It will also get the ICS update very soon, at least earlier than other non-stock android phones (Galaxy S2).
As for Xperia Neo V, it is a great phone too, if you can get it around for 15k (@ adexmart). You may want to try both of these phones at a retail store. Thumbs up to whichever suits you better.
To be honest, you may want to ask for such queries @ thinkdigit. They're aware of the Indian smartphone market better.
I love my NS. The development community is very active, and it'll get even more so when ICS is pushed to the NS!
Plus, with Voodoo and a very stable CyanogenMod build, it blows the doors off my old Vibrant. The stock-black with no carrier branding looks very sexy, too.

hi everyone,
i have a quick question, i just upgraded my phone to the nexus s from sprint, they give me 13 days to return if i wanted to do that, the main reason i got this phone was for the NFC chip to be able to use google wallet, however i got it and i can't even use it becasue the prepaid card from google wallet is not working i called them and they say that the system is down and it wouln't go back on for about 2 weaks.
My question is do you guys think i should stay with this phone or i should bring it back and exchange to the galaxy s2 epic 4g?
thanks for all of your input on this.

I'd prefer a Nexus phone over anything. An unlockable bootloader if you want to flash your own ROM's and the fastest OTA's if you want to stay stock.
The only phone worth exchanging it for is the Galaxy Nexus, in my opinion. But I don't really see the need yet. The Nexus S is a great phone, even though the specs may be less astonishing than many new phones.

I think the Nexus is definitely worth keeping. It's a great size, and there is still a massive amount of developing being done. Keep it ... you won't regret it.
Gs2 will be upgraded ics soon
If you have enough money, the answer is gs2
Stick with it!

When I first got my NS4G I got bored of it quick. I was used to HTC Sense. I have almost traded it and/or sold it many times, but when it gets down to it I CANNOT part with this phone. The Nexus is one of the greatest phones. Pure Google, no Sprint or Samsung bloatware. I have learned so much with this phone.
I was going to get this phone when it launched but gave up due to the locked bootloader issue. Now that is resolved and there are JB rom's out as well.
But now the next Nexus is probably only 2 months away and will likely ship with Key Lime Pie. Would you get this phone today, or wait?
If you're fine with your Nexus wait for the next one Imo

Only for Android
Nexus devices and manufacturer devices are 2 different monsters. To ask if the SGS3 is still worth getting it really the wrong question to ask. It is the best phone out right now so how would it not be worth getting?
If the latest software is your thing which I thought was mine until I owned the GNEX and realized how many problems that phone had, then maybe wait to see what the next Nexus device has to offer. Even then, the S3 will still be one of the top dogs for Android I am sure.
The S3 is an amazing device and I am happy I made the switch to it. S3 with ICS is better then my GNEX was with JB. Even with the great software it had on it it did not fix the terrible camera, horrible screen, bad radio's and horrific battery life.

The Note is either a device you want or don't. I sure know I don't. I cannot imagine lugging that thing around with me all day.
One good thing about the Note though is it should stop a lot more people from texting and driving : )
I'd go for the SGIII, feature wise and development wise it's going to be one of the best phones for a while IMO.

The Note II is not an option
I'm just a little worried that the phone development may not be as active as the other GS3 versions or the Nexus, or that VZW might find a way to lock it down again.

If I were you I would wait for the next Nexus phone, since you know the development is gonna be huge. I really wanted to wait for the next Nexus, but I lost patience and got the S3. Having said that the S3 is a beast of a phone, I love it. But again if you can wait then the best bet would be to get the next Nexus.
I think ur safe either way, the Nexus always has great development but I had a terrible experience with the Galaxy Nexus, so I can't see going to another Nexus device. Even when it comes out I can't see it being any better than the S3, I picture it basically being the S3 with aosp android
Look at it like this, the Galaxy Nexus was still made by Samsung, as you seen from the lastest Nexus they weren't willing to give up the best features like camera and processers. I'm sure they are not going to give google the best features making the s3 obsolete. When the Nexus came out the s2 was still just as good if not better to be honest.
The software was the big difference between the Nexus and S2. Once the S3 gets Jelly Bean... Oh damn
10 million and counting
With the number of GS3's sold and the popularity of the ROM's (judged by post activity, download activity, etc) I would say that development for the GS3 will continue for some time. The hardware is certainly there to support it. With the unlocked bootloader there is nothing stopping the development from improving for at least the rest of this year if not into 2013. You will be happy with this phone or I'll eat my hat.
Yeah unless you are really after AOSP I would get the S3. It's a great phone and I highly doubt the next Nexus will have much better, if better at all, specs. The nexus phones don't tend to be next gen spec wise just newest software and pure AOSP builds.
The S3 is the best phone on VZW, has Verizon officially confirmed it will be carrying the next Nexus?
Google just released JB and only 1 phone has it officially and you're saying they're going to ship a phone in 2 months with KLP on it? Where do people get this stuff? Jesus.

Nope. My Legend deserved the rest and I'm loving the Nexus.
I think depending on how much you paid for it. Stateside is pretty good value.. Euro side not so much imo.
Nope, I came from a Moto Atrix... Living with a giant middle finger from Motorola. Used as many custom roms as I could to keep it relevant, but that thing to me was basically treated as DOA. The most expensive, ignored, bastard child of modern smartphones I've ever bought... I paid $1000 for it outright day 1 when I was working in S.Korea. Somewhat ahead of it's time, but treated like garbage.
Will not purchase another Moto phone... which is kind of odd considering I own the godsend from mother Google.
Now if Moto makes a Nexus, not quite sure what I'll do... I've blacklisted Motorola.
Could get a nice deal with Tele2 so went for it.
Cheap subscription, lots of minutes, and a nice phone.

My old phone was a Nexus S, and although that was immense, no i don't regret it.
Had my head turned by the HTC One and if the Moto X was available here that would get a look in, but would still probably go for the N5.
Come from galaxy s4 Did not regret a second of it I should have skipped the s4 and come from the nexus s straight
no regret
I regret not getting a Note 3, but then again I did purchase this device outright at less than 2/3 the price of a Note 3, and there are tremendous amounts of development already available considering how new this device is.
I think I lose and gain some. Battery life however would technically still be better on the Note 3, but I ain't really complaining here since I'm not really getting wakelocks. I do miss the big screen however and the more vibrant display I did gain superb call quality and call volume however

I think the nexus will sell used for $200 where the samsungs will probably be around 300-350
Basically for me both of them are the same price...
This is easily the best phone I've ever owned and having stock Android that is not some skinned-and-never-updated crap is a godsend. I've always put ROMs on my other Android phones before but I really don't think I will on this one.
Not one regret at ALL. @ OP why even sign another contract? Wonder how underwater you are with your car loan
good day.
Nope, didn't want to buy a cell phone until next year but my Galaxy Nexus started having issues. Love the Nexus 5 so far!
Yes, I have some regrets. The battery life doesn't feel much better than my GNex and I wish the screen was bigger. Not saying I don't want to keep it, I'm just not sure. Maybe with the right kernel and apps it will be perfect. Or maybe I should've gotten a G2. I just don't know how the ROMs on that would turn out, and I like having wireless charging.
Hello guys I just wanted to get a better feel of how everyone else feels right now and in particular to the Galaxy S7 as well as s7 Edge on T-Mobile having a locked bootloader making root extremely difficult to get if not impossible. This was upsetting to me not because I wanted the S7 and S7 Edge but because this set a precedent for the Note 6 which is not yet released. I started my Journey with a Galaxy Note 2 and loved them ever since. I have very large hands so I definitely needed a large phone and I really quite liked the size and features. I then got the Note 4 and was certainly happy with it for over a year. I usually only hold onto phones for a short while but that phone did pretty much everything for me so I held onto it a while. Samsung announced the Note 5 and I decided to pass due to no more SD Card so I now needed to opt for at least 64gb and no IR blaster. So I decided I wouldn’t be getting that and would look at other options. I began my hunt and ultimately one of the few phones that met my standards was the Nexus 6P since it had a 5.7-inch screen which was Amoled and had a very good camera and I decided to try out stock Android since everyone always raves of its speed and updates. Plus, root on the 6P would be easy.
Anyway the 6P has been doing fine but the battery does leave a lot to be desired (I feel touchwiz does very well with its battery optimizations). Camera is also slightly better due to speed and manual controls as well as screen brightness. The next phone on my radar is the Note 6 but with the no root precedent I’m fairly concerned. To sum it up I feel we don’t have many 5.7 inch or larger phone options out there and was wondering what devices will you guys be looking at as Note competitors especially if the new Note 6 from, T-Mobile cant be rooted? It seems manufacturers like LG and HTC are not really coming out with Note competitors and if they do they are basterdized in some fashion (like lower specs and cameras). Just makes you wonder if they are not interested in the market.
Well, from what I know lg is doing seem. V10 just got an update that apparently locked down the phone. Can't even go down to lollipop if you took the MM update...I will say you should hold onto that nexus, rest of the flashaholics and root lovers will join you soon. Lol
But to answer original post, yes that is now the norm going forward.

This will be really sad if so. Nexus devices are fine but sometimes dont bring all the best features. If the phone is less than 5.7 inches and no Amoled its a non start for me. Liked the HTC 10 but 5.2 inch screen is no go for me lol.
