My tips and tricks for the Motorola G4 Plus XT1642 DUAL SIM. - Moto G4 Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

Please note, you do these at your own risk, I am not responsible for anything breaking!!
Set your wallpaper to an all black wallpaper, this will save your battery some-what. Turn on adaptive brightness THEN turn your screen brightness all the way down. Turn on battery saver. Enable "DND" and set it to complete silence, you'll still get calls and texts. If you're rooted and want to change your display dentisy, do this:
*needs to be rooted*
Download build prop editor from the play store, grant permissions with SuperSU, edit, go to the bottom of the list and add this:
ro.sf.lcd_density=380
Save the file, close the app, open the app and reboot. Congratulations, your DPI has now been changed.
Go in to your sound and disable all sound in other, change your ring tone and notification to none. Disable sound for media, notification and ring tone.
Enable developer options, turn ON HW overlay. disable all animations to 0. Show all ANR's and background processes to no background apps.
Download BBS FROM HERE (XDA) and wakelock detector, you'll see what is consuming your battery. AMPERE will also tell you your charge rate and discharge rate, very good app.
Go in to your apps, disable everything you're not going to use, movies, music etc. BLOCK notifications for apps you don't want. change your permissions on your apps if you wish to do so.
You can check your battery's capacity with "kernel auditor" and you can underclock your CPU thus saving battery and it doesn't really effect performance.
Turn off vibration, disable account auto syncing, disable now on tap, go in to your Google settings, security and disable all, phone search and disable all. Date and time, disable automatic date and time, set to NOT 24 hours time display.
If you want to root:
Boot TWRP from here:
https://twrp.me/devices/motorolamotog2016.html
Make sure you have your Motorola drivers if you're on windows and fastboot, if you're on Linux (which I am) do this:
"sudo apt-get install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot"
You have developer options enabled, enable USB debugging and accept on your phone for auth.
BOOT in to twrp:
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot boot yourdir/twrp-3.0.2-0-athene.img
Wipe your phone, MAKE SURE to have a backup. Create your SuperSU file:
TWRP > Advanced > Terminal and type: "echo "SYSTEMLESS=true" > /data/.supersu" HIT enter, go to: TWRP > Advanced > File Manager and look for your SuperSU file.
Install your SuperSU Stable from here:
https://download.chainfire.eu/969/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.76-20160630161323.zip
Make sure it's on your SDCARD. install. Nice, you're rooted.
If you want to install A CUSTOM kernel, download here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g4-plus/development/kernel-elementalx-g4-0-01-t3424836
MAKE SURE it's on your SD card, install. nice.
*!!you will lose your official status!!*
Post your tips and tricks here.
*ROOTING is systemless, you will not lost your official status. IF you install the kernel, your official status will BE GONE!!!!*

I disagree with this. We have an IPS LCD display. Which means that keeping a black screen INCREASES power consumption, because of the way LCD screens work. This would work wonders for an LED screen, but for our phone, keep the colour towards the whiter sides & keep the brightness low.

Buying 15000rs (225$) and you are telling us to disable all the features and not to use..Should I laugh or ignore ? This is not the right way to tell tricks & tips.

When i try to change my DPI to 380 or 400....
It breaks my camera...
Camera becomes non-responsive, en doesn't give an image anymore....
Only way to fix it again is to do a restore of my ROM.

Working fine with 400dpi, non rooted device

I agree that a black background helps on the MotoX 1st gen that has OLED screen, but will not do anything for our LCD screen.
As for keeping at the minimum the apps that run in background, that's good advice. Everyone can decide if those aps are important to them.

i have seen lot of people struggling to make their phones battery to last for a day .there are number of ways to do it ,but im explaing about the stock non rooted phones ....
1.make sure u set ur brightness to lowest value
2.never use a live wallpaper .always try wall papers which are dark
3.make sure u clean ur cache atleast once a week -u can use a free app called clean master
4.use a launcher like nova or apex
5.disable ur bloatware - settings>more>app manager>all>tap on a app u want to remove (note -u cant remove all the apps but some u can ..like samsung apps ,hangouts, weather etc)-if u r too lazy the open clean master app>go to app manager and press pre installed apps and remove them
6.free up ur memory after the usage by pressing home button and clean the background apps----if u r too lazy to do that then use a task killer like clean master
7.switch off screen rotAtion, bluetooth, gps, smart stat, sync, air gestures blah blah blah
8.screen off time should be kept to the least time possible
9.some apps like facebook uses a lot of ram all the time -if possible use fb in a browser
10.if u use an app very rarely then its good to backup ur apk and uninstall them and install it back whenever required
11.use 2g network whenever possible
12.turn off the locations in settings>more
13.turn off the phone vibration
14.turn on power saving mode -make sure u have limited ur cpu - hold power saving button and enable limit cpu
15.Reduce your dependency on cloud access

Touch key light duration to always off, every little bit helps and it all adds up.
There are some options buried in settings that are always worth checking. Especially if you are regularly wiping everything after changing/flashing ROMs. Make sure you have 'Scanning always available' unticked in the advanced wifi settings. You can also obviously set the WiFi timer to switch it off automatically at night/switch back on in the morning. Always worth checking the refresh/sync rate in the settings of any apps you have installed, as the default interval can be sometimes set to refresh every 5/10 mins, which will obviously suck battery. If you have added additional google accounts, check the sync settings and uncheck any options you dont need. For example my Google music collection is on a different account and so I uncheck everything except music sync, as I dont have any contacts, photos, or other app data on this account.
Generally, I keep the screen brightness at around 40-45%, switch off everything I don't need when out and about, like WiFi if I leave the house, bluetooth as I dont need it running all the time, also switch off data when at home as I'm connected to WiFi. I also use Lux brightness control app, mostly for lowering the screen brightness at night, as the built in brightness level is still too bright even when at the lowest level. I'm not sure how much battery this saves, but its bound to have an affect as the screen brightness is lowered right down. A reboot doesnt do any harm every few days, to clear any background processes or apps that could be lingering and hogging battery. I reboot at least every day, after updating ad blocker Adaway to refresh the hosts file.
:sigh:
Seriously though folks, why? Why can't people just try and be a little more polite rather than jumping at each other's throats?

[Guide] Post-Root Common Issues, Bugs, and Fixes

This guide is meant to help those who have rooted their phones and are now finding it slow, laggy, messy, etc.
I've been seeing a lot of posts repeating common problems that have been fixed by other members of the forums, so I'll compile a list of the most common bugs and fixes for them (the ones that can be fixed) in this guide so people can refer to it instead of swamping dev threads with the same questions over and over again. The quicker we can get through the common problems, the quicker we can get to fixing the ones we don't have solutions to so far.
Disclaimer: After installing the ENG bootloader, you are going to experience less battery life. There are things we can do to improve this, but nothing I have discovered so far will get you back to stock battery life... except re-installing stock ROM. Also standard disclaimer that all of the fixes here are done at your own risk. I am not responsible for any of these fixes breaking your phone.
Bug #1: Phone is laggy after rooting the phone/Battery is down the tank.
Fix: The phone is (partially) lagging because the ENG bootloader automatically sets the CPU governor to "Performance." While this is supposed to lock the CPU frequency at the maximum values, it does cause a lot of heat and possibly throttling. Additionally, the max core clocks are set to 1.593Ghz instead of their actual maximums. Not every CPU Tuner will allow you to set the big cores separately, so look around for one that does if you don't want to use Kernel Toolkit.
First, use Flashfire to flash one of two zips provided by psouza4 on our sister Verizon Galaxy S7 (Edge) threads.
1. Kernel fixes & tweaks V15
2. Kernel fixes, tweaks, & Debloater
You need only flash one of these two zips. One additionally debloats the system, one does not. Choose whichever suits your needs.
What the zips do:
Adds a rotate button to the native gallery app.
Adds a shortcut call button in the call log next to each logged call.
Adjusts several CPU tunables, which fixes phone lag and battery life issues.
Disables "No SIM" popup when no SIM card is present.
Disables roaming data by default.
Disables secure storage support, which fixes Wi-Fi passwords not saving issue.
Disables Verizon provisioning for Wi-Fi tethering/hotspot (will still use your data plan, of course).
Enables ADB to run as root by default.
Enables CPU idling/sleeping, which fixes phone heat issues.
Enables mock GPS locations.
Enables native call recording feature in the dialer.
Enables native Wi-Fi calling feature in the dialer.
Enables RIL power saving features.
Enables scheduled messages in the native messaging app.
Enables the camera during calls.
Enables unlimited contact merging.
Enables using the new 3GPP2 Profile ID (Verizon exclusive).
Fixes various 'searching for service' and other cellular network connectivity issues (SMS/MMS not working, calls not working, etc.)
Knox apps, drivers, and data are removed (fix+debloat version).
Prefers LTE network.
Raises the contact name length limit to 1,280 characters.
Raises the maximum SMS recipient limit from 10 to 90.
Remove nagging 'unauthorized actions' security notification (fix+debloat version).
Removes VoLTE icon.
Removes bloatware and/or apps that can be downloaded from the Play Store and don't need to live in /system (fix+debloat version):
Next, install a CPU Tuner utility like Kernel Toolkit, then change the governor from "Performance" to "Interactive." Also change the max CPU frequency of the little cores to 1.593Ghz and the big cores to 2.150Ghz while you're at it. Leave the cores at their default minimum frequency. This will go a long way to improving the speed of the phone. Also make sure you that have the new settings to apply on boot. Every kernel manager should have this option somewhere.
Note: Although the max frequency in the settings screen will drop to some number, as long as you can see the CPU ramp up to the new settings in the information screen, then everything is fine. You can test the max frequency by turning the screen off and then back on.
Then, install sEFix and set entropy to "Ultra."
Lastly, install L Speed and:
Code:
-Main Tweaks: Turn on
-Battery Improvement
-OOM Killer
-Kernel Tweaks - "Light"
-CPU Tuner: Turn on
-CPU Optimizer
-LNET Optimizer: Turn on
-Google DNS
-Faster Streaming
-Faster Dormancy
-IO Tweaks: Turn on
-IO Boost
-Partition Remount
-RAM Manager
-Balanced
-Seeder
-Moderate
Their individual effects can be read up on here.
Bug #2: Weird "hurricane" icon in the corner.
Fix: This is related to the imsservice.apk which controls the RCS icon and the VoLTE icon being displayed. Someone has a modified version of the Note 5 imsservice.apk with these removed. You can find the apk HERE in the OP's attachment. HOWEVER, you will push this to a different location than the location mentioned in the guide there. You have two choices, you can either push the apk via ADB from you computer or you can copy the file using a root file manager.
ADB Method (Assumes you know what you're doing. Don't copy the code verbatim if you don't know what the command is doing):
Code:
adb remount
adb push imsservice.apk /system/priv-app/imsservice/imsservice.apk
adb reboot
Root File Manager Method:
Transfer the imsservice.apk to your phone. Anywhere where you'll remember the location is fine. Open the file manager with root compatibility and copy the file to /system/priv-app/imsservice/ and overwrite the imsservice.apk already in the folder.
Set permissions of the file to 0644 or rw-r--r-- depending on your file manager. You can set permissions using most file managers.
Restart the phone.
I've included the stock PD8 imsservice.apk as an attachment below if anyone has issues with the modified one from the guide.
Bug #3: Notification warning that system has been modified.
Fix #1: Disable com.samsung.android.securitylogagent & com.tmobile.pr.adapt using your favorite package disabler. This will hide all notifications associated with this app as well as the root check that you might have encountered.
Fix #2: This fix requires Xposed. You can follow the instructions to install Xposed HERE.
Then install the Xposed module NotifyClean, activate the module, and reboot the phone. You will then use this app to block the notification under the package com.samsung.android.securitylogagent by clicking on the package so that it is highlighted red. The notification should disappear!
Note: This app can also be used to hide the icon for WiFi Calling if it's annoying you. You can still use the WiFi calling function while hiding the notification.
Bug #4: I keep losing root.
Fix #1: Secure boot/startup has caused the loss of root. So make sure you DO NOT SETUP the secure boot option when you're first setting up the phone or any time afterwards. This is the same option that forces users to type in/swipe in their password on a screen with a black background. This is not the normal type/swipe your password on your lockscreen after a boot.
Fix #2: Disable Security policy updates. I've also heard that people who leave this option on lose their root after a couple of reboots. You can find this setting under:
Settings > Lock screen and security > Other security settings > Security policy updates > Automatic updates (Turn this setting off).
Fix #3: Disable auto-updates for apps in Google Play Store. It's possible that SuperSU auto-updated, breaking root.
Fix #4: Disable automatic updates for the phone. I don't think these run anyways on modified software, but it can't hurt. You can disable the applications responsible for automatic updates using Titanium Backup, EZ Disabler, or any other package disabler you know of. The packages to disable are:
com.sec.android.soagent
com.wssyncmldm
com.samsung.firmware.nfc
com.samsung.android.firmware.tsp
Bug #5napchat: Unable to log into Snapchat.
Fix #1: This happens if you attempt to login to Snapchat after installing Xposed. Just make sure you login to Snapchat prior to installing Xposed. Done.
Fix #2: If you've already installed Xposed, you can:
-Do a clean install through ODIN, and re-root your phone, install and log into Snapchat, then install Xposed.
-Uninstall Xposed by flashing THIS through Flashfire, uninstalling the Xposed framework app, and clearing the data on your Snapchat app. Then login to Snapchat and re-install Xposed.
Bug #6: WiFi passwords aren't being saved
Fix: Use a root file manager like Solid Explorer and go to /system and open/edit build.prop. Scroll down or use the "find" function to search for ro.securestorage=true and change it from true to false (ro.securestorage=false). Save the file. Done!
If you guys have any more bugs that you run into, please feel free to post them here. Anyone who knows of any additional fixes to these bugs or solutions to any bugs that others post, also feel free to add them in the comments and I will compile them into this guide when I get a chance.

Not every CPU Tuner utility will let you set the individual big.LITTLE cores separately. Try using the one recommended or look for another one that does allow it. Kernel Toolkit is the only one that I remember off the top of my head. I'll also make an edit in the post to avoid further confusion.
hey all, does anyone have or has experienced your incoming calls not being recieved? i have called myself and others also and it either rings until voicemail or it just goes straight to voicemail,
any ideas whats causing this?
thanks,
Great post! Unfortunately I'm having problems with smart view after rooting. Every time I try to screen mirror it works but it is extremely laggy making it unusable. This has only been an issue since root and I've tried mirroring to three different devices and it's the same with all of them. I followed the instructions in this thread to see if these tweaks would help but they didn't change my screen mirroring issue at all. Is anyone else out there experiencing this?
little help please.
Followed the guide for bugs 1 & 2 exactly as mentioned. Used the root manager method for bug #2. Now i keep getting this pop-up that the phone is not responding...Any solutions to get rid of this?
thanks

Just started for me too. Doesn't go straight to voice mail but i don't get calls and cant call out now. Seemed to happen right after i replaced the imsservice.apk and rebooted. The annoying hurricane icon is gone now, just at the expense of making and receiving calls lol.
Did you also happen to overwrite the imsservice.apk?

Looks like I forgot to mention changing permissions on the file after you copy it over. From there, the easiest way to restore it would probably be to adb push the file over since you don't need to reset permissions if you push through adb. This should correct the crashing and allow you to use your phone.

I switched the minimum to 307 and max 1593 for small cores. For big cores minimum 307 MHz and Maximum is 2150 mhz.
Its not letting me save these numbers. I had min set to 307 and when I left the screen and went back it jumped back up to 1593

If you look at the information menu, do you see the cores ramp up to the 2.150 Ghz we set? If it does, then the settings have been saved despite it not reflecting on the settings screen. You can force it to ramp up to max but turning the screen off and then turning it back on.

This is the expected behavior. This just means that they will clock up to the max when there is a high load, but then drop back down to the lowest frequency to save battery when there is nothing to be done. Everything is working as it should.

Solved...How to disable display on poco f1 like on PCs

I don't want to use power button, double tap or simulate that. I just want to disable display for some time and then turn it back on. Is this possible? Thanks.
Edit: this app does it flawlessly with root. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-screen-backlight-off-xda-exclusive-t3037380
Objectives
1. Apps should be running in foreground thinking I'm using phone.
2. Only display module should be affected.
3. Android itself should think that the display is turned on and should play YouTube videos (though i dont want youtube.. Its just an example plz don't comment YouTube vanced)..
Possible solutions:
1. Rename display driver files (idk location).
2. Make brightness 0 (idk how to do this.. Idk default value too)
Ps: even if there is adb command plz tell me that.. Along with command to turn display on again lol
Double tap to sleep and double tap to wake
??? I don't want my android to sleep. I want to just disable the display not put phone on sleep like double tap, power button etc..
Use the game mode...it has a screen off feature...just manually add the app as a game you want to use this feature on. Even sound works...just screen turns of...helps with YouTube for free background play ?
I'm not on stock MiUi rom bro I'm using syberia os.. Thanks for idea btw..
Break the screen
If you're on custom rom, then find one with smart pixel and disable around 80-90% of the pixels
Thanks but smart pixels is useless for non amoled phones..
Do u want to take picture of someone secretely??
If so then there is already an app for that which disables the screen and then u just tap anywhr on the screen whn the display is off and snap any photo/vid.
Lol no nothing like that.. I just want to disable my display panel to watch hotstar app for long times.. I don't need video only audio... So I wanna disable display panel to save battery.
My god the OP has a lot of issues for an absurd problem
Found solution. https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/app-screen-backlight-off-xda-exclusive-t3037380
add to game turbo you can turn off display and running game/on background with display turn off..

[TUT] Enable system level night mode/night shift/blue light filter, no root required.

I just got a Fire HD 10 9th gen, and I can't root it, so unfortunately I could not install f.lux. I did some googling and it turns out you can turn on androids built in night mode instead with an ABD shell command, I have no idea why Amazon makes you use their crappy blue light filter, which is really just an overlay. So anyways,
1. Plug your Fire HD into your computer
2. Start an ABD shell (I use Fire Toolbox to do this easily)
3. Paste these two commands, one at a time:
"settings put secure night_display_activated 1"
"settings put secure night_display_auto_mode 1"
4. Open settings on your Fire HD, it should say night mode is enabled at the top, click this to change the schedule to sunset to sunrise or to any time range you want.
5. Use your Fire HD at night without being blinded or washing out your screen with amazon's crappy filter.
Thanks, the default night mode is so much better than the Blue shade filter crap they put in.
Oh NightLight does NOT show up on Screenshots!
But yes. it is indeed VERRY much better.
Thanks a lot.
So, the "night mode" in settings isn't shown after reboot? Do we have to run the adb commands every time we want to make changes?
If you leave it on "Automatic" it will show up again at night!

There isn't a "night mode" setting enabled there. But if you go to settings after pushing those adb commands and go in to settings, there will be a drop down from the top that says something like night mode is enabled. You can click that and set the time to activate it.
any way to make to stick it permanently even when rebooted and messed with? is there way to write these as init when I boot the FireHD?
If you're using Nova Launcher you can simply add a Widget -> Nova Activity.
Go to Settings and select .Settings$NightDisplaySuggestionActivity and you have a shortcut to the settings on the Main screen.

I tried this on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 running Android 12. The display went dark, and luckily I quickly set the first command to 0 instead of 1
When I did the 2nd command, it did nothing, but I'm worried the screen will stop showing anything later tonight if it's based off of automatically turning on at sunset.
I'm wondering if you know a way to do this now, for example maybe adjusting the Night Light settings?
The built in version on Samsung's tablet, which has an LCD display, is awful. No such problem with OLED or AMOLED displays.
https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyTab/comments/mu8m5a
That is a link explaining my problem in detail
I am thinking I am halfway there because running
settings put secure night_display_activated 1
Makes the display go dark and changing it to 0 or any other number like 2 or 3 switches it back to working.
I also tested both commands on my Pixel 6 Pro running Android 12 and they work perfectly.
running the second command as 2 or 3 picks either set times to automatically turn on or from sunset to sunrise.
I just need to try modifying the Night Light to be anything other than black
When I run the command, it changes the filter to black, because the screen stays on, and I can tell it's still on because the LCD shows light through a black screen
Yeah, the "eye care" mode is such stupid naive implementation of Samsung LCD tablets. And they also don't let you change the color temperature in the display settings like on Samsung AMOLED devices.
You can change to vivid or natural but no color temperature.
All the thridparty apps use this stupid trick with the color overlay because a app is not able to change the display calibration settings.
BUT Samsung should know better and change the screen color calibration to get the low blue light effect.
They are root users and should have the know how for their devices.
Because vivid and natural also changes the screens color calibration, they should be able to so instead of this stupid orange overlay.
With the extra dim mode I could not find out if they also simply put on a gray overlay or reduce correctly the led backlight to a minimum. But according to their stupid design choices and thinking the customer is dumb and will not notice, this is maybe also a gray overlay.
People are complaining for 2 years now, starting with the Tab S7!
If somebody also thinks that this is a dumb implementation please report this issue to Samsung: e.g. https://www.samsung.com/us/support/contact/

Looking for a "Low flashlight brightness fix" (torch light, not photo flash)

Hi!
I would like something like this https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...ness-fix-torch-light-not-photo-flash.3872858/ for my Xperia 5 II.
Or if there is a setting for it. I have read on some webpages that maybe you could boost it in settings. This site https://smartandroid.fr/en/comment-allumer-la-lampe-torche-de-son-sony-xperia-5-2/ is about "Xperia 5" (not "Xperia 5 II") and say:
Slide the notification bar down
Go to the settings shortcut page on which your » Lamp »
Rather than clicking on the logo to light it, click on the text: » Lamp ", In this way you will access the torch settings of your Sony Xperia 5
You can now move the slider to manage the intensity of your flash. Namely that the device will save the setting and that it will have this intensity during the next ignition
I cant find that setting on my Xperia 5 II.
I have also tried this:
I go to Settings
There, at the top, I search for "Flash"
Now I see the setting "Flashlight", but nothing happens what I try to choose it.
Is there any magic out there to turn up the light?
Hi raffe,
I'm glad you posted this as I was looking to ask this question myself. The flashlight is really dim compared to my old phone so it would be great to turn up the brightness (lumens).
I also have no response when I look at settings and search torch. And no way to find other options for this feature. I even looked on Developer Tools.
Hopefully someone can help....?
Maybe the problem is, there is only one led diode..
Agree the "torch" is incredibly woeful, worst I've seen to be honest.
if you make a photo then you see that the led can be pretty bright even brighter than everyother phone I've had. Problem is that sony sets it low to allow it to go on for couple of hours winthout overheating.
I'm looking into it myself, if I find anything then I'll let you guys know
So it's me again. I have a solution but it requires root
Release v1.4.6 · BRoy98/GodlyTorch
Merge pull request #2 from TheDorkKnightRises/patch Fix LED file path for OnePlus One (bacon), proper device names for OP Merge pull request #3 from TheDorkKnightRises/patch Fix default double-...
github.com
Download this app and select device google pixel 2 it allows you to control the torch brightness
But be careful and don't burn your finger by setting it to 100% max bright like me hah. The 10% is normal brightness 20% is brighter than every other device and 30% is enough for myself

Thanks! That worked well
Wish there was a solution without root.

Good find! I only wish there were an easier way to toggle flashlight on/off to a preset intensity. The app doesn't provide a shortcut.

The brightness setting may be hidden. On my Samsung simply long pressing the flashlight icon toggle takes you to the brightness control.
It was purely by accident that I discovered it as that's the only way to access it.
I agree that root shouldn't be required for such a simple thing.
Crap it

It's probably buried in the settings or a 3rd party flashlight app can be used to access the brightness controls.
I would use the former rather than the latter...

If it's buried then it's buried so deep that it doesn't exist.

With Samsung there's no rythm or reason; double tapping or long pressing to access unindicted drop down menus. They are far and few in between so finding one tends to be a shock.
Another reason I seldom upgrade the firmware.
Maybe Sony is more sane but don't count on it.
Play with it...
I had to un-root the phone. When I rooted, the one app that could change the light intensity worked, but three other apps (financial and banking) said they would not start on a rooted phone and I never could get past that. Back to square 1 ;-(
Does anyone know the current version of an app like this? The application works well enough. But the problem is that two flash leds don't work at the same time. It lights up white or yellow alone, but both do not work at the same time. I have a Xiaomi Mi 9 device and I find the flash led running in the developer test interface of the device and the flash led running from the normal interface does not find a difference in lighting twice or three times.
