Moto G 3rd gen USB Conection Unrecognized - Moto G 2015 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Description of what is Happening:
With the cable connected, the phone starts to charge normally, but it does not warn that on a PC (to choose the USB mode), it still like it was connected in a normal charger. The computer recognizes that something was connected, however warns "Unrecognized device".
Things I noticed:
- In Bootloader mode, the last line, which was supposed to say "connected to USB", it says, "Connect USB cable", like it was not recognizing the cable.
- Sometimes, and rarely, he returns to connect normally, and even moving the cable it remains connected, however, when i trying to remove and connect again, it comes back to the same problem.
- if i try to turn off the screen, open some app, or do whatever thing (even scroll down the topbar or open the drawer, the USB connection closes, only still charging. When returns to the homescreen, it tries to reconnect, but still unknown.
Since then I tried to do the following things:
- Uninstall and install the USB drivers from Motorola
- Restore Windows to an earlier date that the last given problem
- Test different USB cables (including the original)
- Connect in different pc ports
- Test the USB cable to other devices, and worked perfectly, proving that the problem is not the cable or the computer ports
- Clean the external storage cache and media storage and reboot
- Format phone (twice, the second by Recovery Mode)
- Clean the USB port of the phone
- Connect with the MTP mode on and off, and the debug mode on and off
And nothing of this helped me!

Have you pulled down the notification shade and changed the USB mode to MTP?

Sounds like you've covered all the bases then... I don't see factory default in the list of things you've tried though.

Full factory reset... Or maybe boot a Live Linux distribution from USB and test, like current Ubuntu or Mint, because Linux doesn't require special drivers to talk to Android devices.

VM likely won't work, if the host doesn't see the USB device, the guest OS can't either... native boot off a USB stick.
Is it recognized in fastboot/bootloader?

Can't Connect to PC A510

I just rooted my A510 and ever since my laptop won't recognize my tablet. What can I do? I've tried factory reset, as well as flashing cm10/other roms. I downloaded the os from the acer website but don't know how to flash. Can anyone help me out?
Recovery= cwm
rom = cm10 unofficial
Update I was able to flash back to stock with unlocked bootloader and recovery from the acer website. But still I cannot get any computer to recognize my tablet. I have also lost root. What can I do now? Charging works perfectly so micro usb slot is not messed up.
Did you try another USB Cable ? another PC ?
What's no working ? MTP ? USB Mass Storage ? ADB ? Fastboot ?
Yes I've tried different USB and computers. The problem is that the computer won't recognize tablet in any mode. I'm currently on stock recovery with stock ww jb. I have us version of the tablet. Also update. zip not working in stock recovery. Idk if this is related but this problem occurred after unlocking boot loader also cwm would not mount ext SD. Boot loader is still unlocked. Maybe locking again will fix?
Edit: When in fastboot mode I am able to get usb device not recognized error in windows but have not been able to get it to recognize the device. I have tried pointing driver to acer official drivers but windows rejects these drivers. Device shows up as unrecognized device under device manager in windows and tablet fastboot mode.
Edit2: Windows gives same usb device not recognized error as in fastboot when plugging in using debug mode. Still no solution to this problem.
anybody know how I can fix this? Maybe flashing bootloader again can fix problem? Someone please help!

yes, you might try to flash all the Firmware using Acer ADT and a full Firmware file (BIN)

This sounds more like a Windows issue. What version of Windows? The Acer drivers only support Win XP or 7. If you load the Android SDK, those drivers can be made to work. If the USB on the tab recognizes a flash drive, I say look at Windows to resolve.
Also, I believe that once the bootloader is unlocked, it cannot be locked. It maybe can be replaced with a locked one using the fastboot flash command.
Acer Drivers are compatible with Windows 8 x64 (I'm using it)

How would I do that? ADB doesn't recognize the device neither does fastboot. Idk if it is a windows problem since I have tried updating drivers over and over again. I get an error returned saying usb device not recognized. Also I'm having trouble flashing in stock recovery. I put update.zip on root of sd card and external sd but nothing works. External sd doesn't show in recovery.
I'm now having trouble getting the pc to recognize the tablet at all.
Someone Please help.

I would suggest making a Linux thumb drive (http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows). You don't have to futz with drivers as much in Linux. All ADB and Fastboot commands are available. I used it for my phone and my TF101. An old 2GB USB will suffice.
Any utilities, files, etc. can be placed on the stick for use, as well.
so basically I should boot my computer using a usb drive then connect my tablet to another usb port correct? Also I'm starting to think my usb drivers in the tablet itself are messed up from trying to root. How would I fix that? But I will try what you said first. Thanks
Btw I am unrooted now cuz I flashed Acers stock firmware but it didn't lock bootloader which is weird.
I have tried using the usb stick to boot into linux but that would not recognize my tablet as well. My phone was recognized immediately but my tablet was not. The tablet won't even recognize that a usb is connected when it is connected to the computer, but shows charging when connected to charger. Again I think the usb drivers in the tablet itself are messed up. What can I do?
Do you guys think I could possibly do something in APX mode? Seems like it may be my only hope

If you still have the USB adapter, try connecting a USB stick to the tablet. If the tablet mounts the stick and you can view files, then there is most likely nothing wrong with the tablet USB. If not, then Acer may still be able to help with a warranty claim. I bought the extended warranty w/ mine.
As I stated earlier, once the bootloader is unlocked, it can't be locked... perhaps replaced, but not locked.
If the USB functions, boot to the Linux stick and run ADB usb.
then plug in the device to see what happens...
Pretty much all you can do in APX is flash the factory image. that's the most primitive state for android devices...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/APX_mode
You would still need a functioning USB port.
Hope this helps.

I tried plugging in the usb drive with the adapter and the tablet was unable to recognize the usb. does this mean that the usb drivers are bad? What are my options? What happens if Acer denies me support due to being out of warranty?

Sounds like a hardware or physical problem. Inspect the contacts on the USB for an obstruction or a misaligned contact. There are 5 contacts on my A700. I would power down before messing with it. Also, check for a loose socket... you did say that the charger works, though.

Yea the charger works perfectly fine so I don't think that is the problem. It may be usb drivers in the bootloader or something cuz this problem started right after I unlocked the bootloader.
I contacted Acer and they said my tablet is out of warranty and to fix it it'll cause $250. Is there anything else I could try?

I really don't believe the USB driver was changed when you unlocked the boot-loader. If you replaced the Kernel, that would more likely. This is resolvable by replacing the kernel with stock...doable if you can flash from recovery.
Again, I say inspect the USB contacts. they are really tiny and delicate. If one is crossing another, this can cause your issues. They can be straightened with a lot of patience.
It would be very hard to find the USB port for sale as it is unique to Acer... with the 12VDC capability.
Thanks I will carefully look at the pretty itself. I did not change the kernel before the problem started occurring but did flash cm10'1 to see if that would fix problem amd it didn't. Thank you very much for all of your help!

the micro usb ports pins seem straight to me, they are perfectly aligned. I'm seriously at a loss as to why it still won't work.

Tablet not detected when connected via usb at all

I connect my tablet to my two laptops, one is win 8.1 and the other osx, neither shows any sign of knowing the tablet is connected at all.
it does not prompt me to instal any drivers, i dont see it in device manager though i could be missing it. definitely doesnt show up in file explorer as a drive. have tried switching from mtp to ptp and back again. I have no dea. The same cable when connected to the charger works fine, but no sign of life on a computer.
I'm trying to root it and get CM10 on there but this is stopping me in my tracks.
edit: i also just tried an older windows xp computer, no luck their either.

Tried both that I own. And it charges fine. Also tried connection the keyboard dock and then the cable to that. Out of ideas.
USB debugging has been enabled and disabled multiple times. Multiple reboots. I'm going to try rolling back the firmware from .10 to .8

You don't need to root it to install a custom ROM, you need to unlock the bootloader.

I wouldn't start installing custom anything without working fastboot and adb access.
- Make sure the contacts of the connector and cable are clean.
- Do the equivalent of "lsusb" under OSX to check if the tablet is detected.
- Try different USB ports.

Have tried five ports accross three computers on three operating systems. Two usb cables, and the use of the dock should have bypassed any dirty connections. I can try Ubuntu live boot tomorrow if it comes to that.
Sent it off to get fixed, they verified they had the same problem, waited weeks for a replacement part, they replaced it and sent it back. And its doing the samn damn thing. So done with this tablet.

No, and I would think a factory reset which I've done multiple times would have undone that even if I had on accident some way.

How do you connect the tablet to the PC? Always through the dock USB?
Do you have the same problem when connecting the tablet directly? Undock it, use the original cable to connect to different USB ports.

[Q] Connect To USB 3.0

When I plug my G3 into my computer using the stock cable, the message to plug it into a USB 3.0 port always comes up and the device will only charge. In order to mount it and make changes I need to reinstall the driver software and repeat this every time I restart my computer. I do NOT have the LG PC Suite installed as I didn't find it useful when I could just manually drop things in folders.
Anyone have any idea what the hell is going on? I'm on Win 7 64 bit

***EDIT***
So I tried it with those drivers you linked and same issue happens. After a restart, when I plug in the phone I get a Windows message saying the device can perform faster if you connect it to USB 3.0, which it is by the way.

Didn't work. The phone will mount and I will be able to access internal storage and SD card after reinstalling drivers, without unplugging the phone. After a computer restart it won't connect.
Good try though
***EDIT***
I also tried installing the PC Suite software and that didn't help. Still requires a driver install for the phones data to be readable

Try these. It's just a older version. I am going to say that the problem may be 3.12 drivers(assuming you are installing them) not playing ball with win7 64

Funny little tidbit though, if I uninstall drivers and then plug the phone in, it will install the drivers located on the phone and work until I restart it.

Unfortunate to have to do reinstall drivers all the time, but oh well
I had the same problem except my PC would only recognize the G3 on a usb 2.0 port; it never works on any PC on a 3.0 port. Since my laptop only has 3.0 ports, i have to use a 2.0 usb hub between the g3 and the computer and then it works flawlessly. Pain in the but though, wish LG would fix it by now.

Have you tried uninstalling all the USB drivers for your device, restarting PC, re-installing drivers then restart PC and then try connecting your device.
When you updated, did you boot to stock recovery and factory reset and wipe cache partition then reboot? Sometimes failing to wipe during update can cause things to not work correctly.

And when you right click on the driver with the yellow triangle and select update driver, it does nothing?
Have you tried manually updating the driver and choosing the option to select from files on your PC instead of the auto-update feature? You can use this method to navigate to the folder that the Samsung drivers are installed in and select them from there, this should load the drivers.

Have you connected to Odin While in download mode and it isn't recognized? Or have you only connected to PC while the phone is running in system and the PC doesn't recognize it?
Try these troubleshooting steps:

You changed the USB settings as suggested and nothing changes?
You disabled anti-virus before installing the drivers?
You disabled fast startup? (If your PC has this feature)
How USB works on your note 4 versus how it works on your other devices may have slight differences, that would explain why your others connect and the note 4 doesn't.
Have you enabled USB debugging developer options?
99% of the time this is a PC hardware/driver issue, not an issue with the android device in question.

USB not detected on PC

I have recently installed a custom ROM but when I tried to connect my phone to my laptop, it was not recognized. I have tried formatting and resinstalling the ROM but its no use. When I rebooted into TWRP my PC recognized my phone just fine, using the exact same cable. Can anyone help me on this?
To make sure you're not overlooking something obvious: Did you change the setting in USB Preferences on the phone from charging to "file transfer"? A notification should have popped up, or you may need to go to settings. My chromebook won't detect phone until I do this step.
Turned out it's a ROM issue. I switched the ROM and now everything is working normally
