Google keyboard randomly capitalising - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Themes, Apps, and Mods

Hey guys,
This may not be s7 specific but I've read about this problem on previous galaxy devices.
My Google keyboard is randomly capitalising letters mid-sentence (e.g. "see you at Home later On")
Tried deleting cache, re-installing, but no change.
Any ideas?

Are you accidentally hitting the shift key along the edge by any chance...

not hitting shift key. I thought it might've somehow added my FB contacts to the dictionary because it was capitalizing words that were potentially surnames (ie. the quick Brown Fox jumped....) - but now I can confirm it is completely random. I've uninstalled my user dictionary etc, and still getting the same problem. Searching my problem seems to reveal a correlation between unwanted auto-caps and Samsung devices, so not sure if I can change something in the Samsung settings to stop this

Bumping this again because it is an infuriating issue!

I get the same. On a nexus and now on an s7.
Super annoying.

If you see those words appearing in the suggestion bar with first letter capitalisation, try doing a tap and hold on the suggestion and drag it up to remove it from future suggestions.

[Q] Text Messaging Quirk?

Delete Quirk:
To use the condescending phrase my GF throws at me (and then claims she's not being condescending, Women!) I write books via text. At least it seems that way because I'll write out my thoughts in beautifully verbose English then hack them down to 160 characters if possible. This utilizes the delete/backspace key quite a lot and every now and then I get this...
Holding phone PSP style (index fingers curled around lower half underneath display, phone cradled between index finger and thumbs, thumbs free for furious typing)
-Use thumb to rapidly tap Del
--Phone goes to top of conversation tree, but I can still type in message box (just can't see it cause i'm now scrolled to top of this contacts message history)
and/or
--Phone goes into message deletion mode, I can't type and its asking me to select messages for deletion.
It doesn't seem to happen all the time, I think its happened when i've held down delete a couple times but usually when i'm quickly correcting an error or removing a few short words. I don't expect a fix, just wondering if I'm a lucky winner of some hardware issue or just ignorant of shortcuts.

Yeah with the lb open, and we have all been there before, deleting whole lines of text

Oh the anger I've gone through because I deleted everything when I didn't want to. I've wanted to break the keyboard off many times

Tell me about it. I used to have a habit of double clicking the FN key to type out numbers or whatever, then mistype and hit the del key forgetting i have FN-Lock on ... just gotta suck it up and retype lol.
And you said with the "lb open"? As in the library??? If so, that might be why i havent had that problem. I don't use predictive text with the hardware keyboard...
fn+delete = delete all... thats kind of handy.
I think I might be pressing delete+enter when reaching for the delete key. Needs more testing.
*edit* nope, least not when I try to do it, lol

[Q] Google Chrome on Note Edge/3/2

Ok this is starting to drive me mad. I have 3 phones, a Note Edge, a Note 3, and a Note 2. On the browser "Internet" on all three, when you hover over items that react to a mouse (like a menu) using the S Pen, it reacts as it should, as if you were using a mouse. Now Google Chrome on the other hand (and this is what's starting to drive me mad) does this ONLY on the Note 2. It functions EXACTLY the same as the stock browser in regards to the hover/mouse behavior. Yet, neither my Note 3 nor my Note Edge will do this. WHY? I've replicated all settings, and checked the versions of Chrome installed. Everything is the same but the phone. So why will the newer phones not do this? And most importantly, HOW can I get Chrome on my Note 3 and Note Edge copy this behavior? The ONLY reason I go back to the stock browser is for this function. Everything else I use (bookmarks, etc.) is in Chrome. I've looked all over and can't find a solution. Any ideas?
Updates:
1) psolem below reports the mouseover feature working properly in Chrome on the Verizon Note edge. What's the difference here? It be really nice if we could get someone experienced to dig into how this function is triggered.
2) I haven't been here in a bit (kinda gave up hope) but this morning I realized that at some point between now and my last being here, I've broken mouseover on the stock browser as well. Like I said before, if someone who knows a bit more about the inner workings of touchwiz could chime in, that'd be great.
3) I used an app called hiddenapp launcher (activity launcher was crashing every time it tried to load the full list for some reason) to launch (thus may not apply to everyone but I had to hold on each entry to load the shortcut to the home screen first. Then after each shortcut was made the app would crash so I'd open it again and repeat) about 6 different versions of air view it had listed. One of them contained what appeared to be some mouseover related settings but toggling any of them didn't do anything. The last one oddly was the only one that wouldn't open for me (crashed every time I tried to open it). I'm wondering if maybe there's some settings there that aren't accessible on my phone for some reason? Maybe someone who has mouseover working properly could try?
4) I just backed up and factory reset my phone. Mouseover now works in both Chrome and Stock, suggesting something I added is interfering or something I changed broke it. Any ideas what this could be?

I've been searching all over the internet regarding this, and I'm so sick of hearing people call this Air View. This has nothing to do with Air View. This works when Air View is off. And because everyone is calling this Air View, I get a million irrelevant results every time I search. So let's all just stop calling this Air View. Agreed? Awesome, thanks.) I would like to try this on my Verizon Note Edge.
Can you provide a specific example to illustrate what you are describing?
Perhaps a specific website where this happens, and which link you were hovering over?
Maybe a screenshot from the Note 2 (working properly) and another from the other devices (not working properly).
When you say "...items that react to a mouse (like a menu) ...", you mean like the drop down navigation menus? Like Frys dot com website when you hover the mouse over the top left red button "Cool Stuff We Sell" a menu drops down without having to click anything or another example weather dot com website when you hover over top left button "Forecast" a menu is exposed without having to click anything. On my Edge, using the S Pen, with both browser choices you mentioned, the menu on the frys webpage will drop down automatically when I hover the pen over it, the menu on weather.com will not drop down unless I click it.
Another thing I notice is the stock browser ("Internet") seems to change the S Pen pointer into a hand with a pointer finger when hovering over a link, similiar to a PC mouse hovering over a link. The Chrome browser did not seem to change the S Pen on-screen pointer to indicate there was a link being hovered over. In fact, Using the Chrome browser, there was no indication the S Pen was hovering over anything to interact with.

Yes that's exactly what I'm talking about. But you get a reaction using Chrome as well as the stock browser? On the Note Edge? I'm not really concerned about what the printer looks like, but yes, it does change to an hand over links. My main concern is that the mouse hovering actions for me work ONLY on the stock browser on the Note 3/Edge and not on Chrome, but on the Note 2, it does work in Chrome, as well as in the stock browser.
Basically: Chrome + S Pen only works on the Note 2. But why? It's the exact same version of chrome on each. One thing I noticed though in app info is that the Note 2 installation of Chrome was larger by a megabyte or so.

Can you screenshot this working in Chrome on your note edge? Gimme a moment and I'll add my screenshots of Chrome/Stock on frys.
Edit: The first pic shows the screen when I'm hovering over chrome (on top), and the second screen shows hovering over "Internet" (below). Incidentally, that custom hand icon appears to show up in screenshots while the default circle pointer does not.
Sorry for the delay In response.
The drop down menu via the s pen seems to work for me in both chrome and Internet browsers on this note edge.
The first screen shot is chrome, the second is Internet.

Sorry I never got back. Could you send me a copy of your floating_feature.xml? Think it might be related.
Actually I don't think it's that. Ignore what I said. But check out the first post. I added some updates there.
New update:
I just backed up and factory reset my phone. Mouseover now works in both Chrome and Stock, suggesting something I added is interfering or something I changed broke it. Any ideas what this could be?
I narrowed it down some more. The issue is due to the data of one of my system apps. Still have no idea which though.

[Q] Can not delete notifications

My SW2 has a bad behavior that after a few notifications even if I try to remove all notifications it lost something and does not delete.
I´d like to know if someone already fix it or have a workaround since it´s making me nuts.
I already tested all kind of apps and now i´m using watchit!. It appears to be a lost of pointer in internal DB just a guess.
thanks

I have the same problem. Really annoying. Were you ever able to find a solution. I hate having to do a reset on the watch to clear the notifications.
Works OK for me. Just swipe notification "bar" down, press menu button and then press X
Sent from my C6603 using Tapatalk
In fact you just stop to show them. If you go to an application like Watchit you will see several notifications and you can't delete all only resetting the watching. Funny part is that is not boring more people over here...
I already test several notifications app. The same for all. The problem is with SO. I´m waiting Huawei Watch launch and I´ll be moving to Android Wear.
There are steps to clear all notifications on your SW2:
swipe notification topbar down
click menu button
click "x" button
like it

[Q] Double tap to select word stopped working?

The other day I softbricked my phone and spent hours trying to get it back. I was lucky enough to get back using Smart Switch to restore firmware, but it installed 5.1.1. Whatever, I'm living without root.
However, I noticed since then that I can no longer double tap on a word to select it. I have to long press on a word to highlight it. Anyone else experience this? Kind of annoying. I was so used to the double tap.
Finally, someone else noticed. I noticed the same thing. Ever since I updated to 5.1.1 on my s6, double tap to highlight is completely gone. Very annoying

What both of you mean? I have the 5.0.2 version and when I double tap some text it just zooming in, where does it highlight something?
When you're texting for example. Double tap any word you entered, and it will highlight and allow you to copy it or remove it.

This. Sorry, I should've clarified that I meant when you're typing. Not just any text.
Yep, annoying as hell.
On a good note, though, now you can long press to highlight the word and then just swipe the new word and it replaces it. Prior to 5.1.1 it would not replace it with the new word, it would only grab letters from the new word that were not in the previous word and replace it with those letters, which was even more annoying and made absolutely no sense.

Oh, actually I use long press to highlight something, not double tap.
has anyone had any progress or a workaround for this issue? It's killing me - I've used this feature for years.
Swype's website still says that double tapping a word should select it. I tried other keyboards and none of them allowed me to double-tap select anything but I do not know if they supported double-tap select before the update. I'm also curious whether this applies to all devices or just Galaxy S6.
Pretty annoying.

Obviously the problem is bigger than just the Samsung keyboard. Samsung's site doesn't say anything about double-tapping to select text whereas Swype does mention it. So, what Swype says is very relevant to this conversation because it proves that the problem is not with the keyboards, it's with Android. lol

Wish they hadn't changed it. double-tap is faster (to me) than long-press.
At least I've got a workaround.

Left Samsung after Note 2 and came back to the S9 and yeah, it's annoying... My Android/Huawei phone didn't have this problem.
This is driving me crazy & I can't believe there's no fixes online! Upgrading from my Galaxy S3 of 3yrs to a GS7, so Kitkat to Oreo, & just whyyy did they nix the "double tap to select text typed"?? Siighh.. ;(
There MUST be a way to re-enable it..
Yeah, it's 2021 already yet Samsung still hasn't managed to fix a bug it introduced (many!) years ago.
If Samsung doesn't really know how Android works, we can only hope our devices don't just blow up one day as a result of Samsung's pure reliance on trial and error.
To be clear, it is stated by Android spec that while in a text field, upon a double-tap a word gets selected; hence current behavior is called a bug as the functionality is simply not there

Issues with Autocorrect on Samsung Keyboard? Completely wrong word replacement

Hi all,
So, I'm having a bizarre issue with Samsung Keyboard on my Verizon Galaxy S7. I use the auto correct (auto replace) feature, and it normally does a very good job of catching typos and whatnot. But, it does something really strange when I end a sentence with an exclamation point (!) or question mark (?).
It replaces the entire word before this mark with something totally unrelated. Like for example, if I type "Yeah!", I hit the space bar, and it gets replaced with something like "The!", or "I!". My girlfriend has the same issue on her Galaxy S7. We never had this issue on our previous Samsung phones. This seems to only happen with Samsung Keyboard. But, I would like it if I didn't have to switch keyboards, or turn off Auto correct. Any ideas?
Here's what I've tried so far:
Clear cache and data on Samsung Keyboard
Disable Sync on Samsung Account
Disable various keyboard features, like Auto spacing and Auto punctuate
Factory reset
Thanks in advance!
OMG! Thank God someone else is experiencing this too because I thought I was going crazy LOL. I've been sharing the below post everywhere I can -- I sure hope Samsung fixes it soon because it's very irritating.
I have the s7 and I HATE the autocorrect. I use exclamation points a lot and every time you end a sentence with one it autocorrects the final word in the sentence to something completely random. For example, I typed "I don't understand how!" and it autocorrected how to "why." I typed "Why, does this phone?" and it autocorrected phone to "mean." I typed "Those poor kids are probably starving" and it autocorrect starving to "the." It's the most frustrating thing ever and happens every time I type a text message. I've never wanted to chuck a phone across the room more than when I'm texting on the S7. I've contacted Samsung support, twice, and they pretty much told me I was crazy. So, I figure I'll find every review post on the S7 and post about my issue to see if someone somewhere in the Samsung world can release a software fix for this stupid phone.
Yeah this drives me crazy as well. It's very inaccurate. Maybe a new keyboard like swift key? With the stock one you are better off just tapping
Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
Yes!! I'm so glad too that I'm not the only one experiencing this. I have been searching like crazy, and haven't found this issue listed anywhere.
So sounds like the only fix at this point is a custom keyboard. I hope they fix this soon. Thanks for the replies!
Ok, I have an update. I went into Settings > Language and Input > Samsung Keyboard > Add input languages. There was an "Update" button next to "English (US)". I downloaded this update. Since then, the problem seems to have diminished somewhat. I still see it, but it's kinda 50/50 now.
If somebody else wants to try this, let me know what kind of results you get. Thanks!
I managed to correct the problem! Under Settings > Language > Samsung Keyboard > Add Input Languages > More > Check for updates!!! So relieved!
Issues with Autocorrect on Samsung Keyboard? Completely wrong word replacement
Just use the Kii keyboard app. Free and does what you want.
I fixed it! I went to the Samsung keyboard in settings and changed the Keyboard Swipe to None. Boom! Instantly fixed!
i always loved the samsung keyboard but after the nougat update i move to gboard and think ill stay here for a while because i think the autocorrection works far better and love that you can have multiple languages at the same time rather then to switch between each one of the sammy.
I thought it was only me.... I used to save Roman Urdu words saved in my dictionary and it automatically used to replace the correct words as I zipped along.. no longer working right for me and I am so frustrated by it.. software update screwed my fav keyboard

i get the same issues when i text on my Samsung s7 phone but mine does it anywhere in my text not necessarily at the end, im thinking about spending muy money on iphone instead cause this is driving me nuts! get tired of having tip go back and fix words on a constant basis or re-text because person reading it can't understand what i said.
Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Predictive Text and Auto Replace
I was having the same problem (a word being suggested that was totally off from what was being typed and that wacky word replacing the correct word). The fix was keeping the predictive text on but turning the auto replace off. For my phone/software I got to these by:
1. Settings
2. General Management
3. Language And Time - Language and Input
4. Keyboards - Virtual Keyboard
5. Samsung Keyboard
6. Smart Typing - Predictive Text
The Predictive Text should be on, but the Auto Replace should be off
With the settings as described, the words I use a lot while texting (for instance "thanks" and "ok") show up under where I'm typing the text and I can tap them to save time, but the whole deal where some wacky word comes up and then replaces the word you wanted unless you hit the arrow goes away. I hope this is helpful.
it's 2018 and im still having this issue. I'll type in love and 100% of the time it switches to live. I mean, I use live too so i don't want to delete it. This issue makes me take atleast twice as long to type one message. I had it turned off for a long time and that was my solution, but if they have a feature, I want to ****ing use it. I NEVER had this issue on my previous Samsungs and i've only ever had Samsung "smart" phones.
