Gear S2 Battery Life differences from one person to another illuminated.... - Samsung Gear S2

I have had a Gear S2 for a few month now. Well... not entirely true. I was without for about a month. I sent the first one in to a repair depot who kept it for over a month. In the end I am still awaiting refund but I bought another one. (Side note, Samsung support is the worst I have ever experiences on the planet in over 40 years of dealing with C.S. Count your blessings if you do not have to deal with them)
I have a friend who also has an S2 his is a few moths older now and his battery life is always excellent.
He has sound off, wifi off, NFC, GPS off but bluetooth is on as is his 3G radio.
I have notifications/sound on, 3G radio Off, wifi Off, NFC Off, GPS Off and bluetooth On.
We would compare in the afternoon and I would be around 55-60 percent and he would be mid to high 80's
Even my brand new one that is 4 months newer than his is the same. We sat next to one another in a training class and I started to notice that his watch face was pretty much always off. We both had Gesture On enabled but mine was on far more than his.
I turned gesture On- off and found after 16 hours I was just under 70%. About 2% an hour. That was the best I had ever seen!!
I have been using it that way for 4 days and repeat the results. My next questions are, is it the sensor or the actual movement regardless of the screen state that burns up so much battery?
In other word if I put 2 side by side with gesture on and moved one of them regularly but not to a degree that the screen came on would that one have a lower battery?
In the end, for me what I discovered was that well.. I move more than he does. I have a much higher step count and I am more physically active. Turning off "Gesture On" made this watch more useful to me but it annoys me that I have to press buttons to see notifications.
I am going to see if I can find a way to make a suggestion upstream to Samsung to add a second Gesture On mode that it is only enabled for say 20-30 seconds after a beep/vibrate notification. That should be easily do-able as that is just software.
The second request I have is to allow me to set the angle to which the watch must be to turn it on. Instead of simply facing straight up, maybe more to an angle as if I held it up to face me would be nice..... If I know how it has to be to turn it on I would just set it that way to light it up.... Of course this is also all predicated on the notion that it is not the sensor itself that consumes so much battery.

Same issue on ALL this kind of watch. I really read the time 50 times at days but all my (gesture on) watch turn on 800 time at days so of course much drain that other people who do not move her arm along the day....

I've only had mine for literally 3 days. So far I think the battery life is pretty good. If I don't play with it much I can end a day at about 50%.
I had the 1st galaxy gear and an apple watch, both of those were horrible with the battery. I could only get 6 hours with my Apple watch.

the apple watch is disappointing. Let's hope the next gen will be better. I'll be happier knowing whether to choose the gear s3 or the apple watch. But it depends on the support samsung gives apple

gear 2 battery life of 4.5- to 5 days.

Is is just me or the battery of gear 2 have been massively undersold?
I easily get 4.5-5 days of battery life, I charge 100% on Monday morning, and then it will last me until Friday night or Saturday morning.
I use my watch to track my daily cycling commute, and track my sleep every night. I get several notifications, and the notifications that I like the best are from google now, one of which is weather notification that updates it self several times a hour.
I have motion screen activation, which says that it might reduce the battery life but haven't noticed any difference, I have vibration on as well, the only thing I don't have as default is the setting for screen turning on when you receive a notification. ( i am using the default watch face that have shortcuts on it).
Share your experience, what are you doing with your gear 2 and how long does it last.
Yes I have been getting 4 days easy, Samsung are useless at marketing or sticking with a product.
That said most reviews do not state this either, one did but not as a plus point ???
Given the competition cannot doing anything meaningful with a full charge and last the day, Samsung are missing a trick.
Reviews also state Apple if struggling with barely 1 day battery !!! but still expect to sell a million odd watches !!!
If Samsung grows some balls and do there own thing, commit to a product and stick to it, they would succeed.
After the most recent firmware I must say I can get 7 days use without charge.
I use my watch from 7AM to 7PM.
Pretty much everything on notifications, even Twitter but only 7 or so favourites to avoid overload, screen wake up off but wake on notification and brightness to 3.
Laughable when you hear the Apple crap can barely last 18 hrs straight if used as a smart watch

Wow. I honestly only get two days. I have the brightness set to 3, have notifications on (with screen-on activation for 5 seconds), vibration on, have the wrist-motion-activated screen on, and use it occasionally for calls. I power it completely off at night to sleep, too. There's no way I could ever get 7 days though unless I disabled Bluetooth. What am I missing!? 7 days would be amazing.
Do you guys have the pedometer turned on?
Have you guys flashed the custom ROM? (I haven't, but it says it improves battery life)

I noticed the battery life did improve a lot on the latest Tizen release but I am not getting any more than 3 days with these settings:
Stock, not rooted (root not needed for me with Tizen)
Brightness 3
Timeout 10 seconds
Motion ON (I look at time many times throughout the day)
Calls are rare, 10-20 texts using watch/flesky app
Pedometer on 100% of time, Bluetooth always on too
Keep it on all night but use sleep app
If I decrease the brightness to 2 and turn motion off, I could squeeze 4-5 days out but then I wouldn't enjoy the watch:silly:
Now when I use my Neo, battery life is much worse with the same exact settings....go figure.
No custom ROM, brightness 4, motion off but screen set to on for notification.
You should get 4 days easy being on 24/7.
Try a full reset.

@ obsydian - There are too many variables here. I think the decrease with mine is due to motion and how often it turns on but I'm very happy with it!
I dont use my watch for step counting and screen off for notification.
I have motion detection so the screen only turns on when i look at it.
I have my phone on 24/7, I also track my sleep.
so I am guessing its the step counting that is draining the battery, also maybe the texting using the watch,I guess the longer the screen is on the faster battery drain
The longest time I've ever used is 2.5 days without connecting to a phone (I have no samsung phone, so only use the step count and HRM function)

Samsung Gear S2 3g Battery Life

Hi,
I'm trying to figure out what options would keep my battery life up on the s2 3g.
I've had the watch for a couple days now and I'm trying to figure out which features drain the most battery.
I would like to keep 3g on (but it's not really necessary when sitting at my desk all day), bluetooth, and always on. I don't mind keeping the screen at a brightness of 3, and my watch face is a dark background, I have 6 apps selected for notifications.
I do not have gps, or wifi on.
I guess what would be helpful is basically a list of the most battery draining items on the watch. It would also be great to have a battery management app (for the developers out there) that could quickly turn on/off certain items. Right now there's a battery saving mode, a do not disturb mode, and airplane mode... these are all in different locations, but I guess it wouldn't hurt to have some more quick control over all these types of items and additional ones to just manage all the battery draining items, like the pedometer and other "ometers"... is there a way to turn those items off?
Overall I love the watch, but it would be nice to not be thinking about the battery so much... and just use it.
I'm wondering the same thing. Turned it on at around 6am, have brightness set to 1. Haven't used it that much. Wake up gesture is on but not screen always on. I'm at 30% at 2:41pm....with my gear s I was able to get through a 6am-9/10pm day on auto brightness and still have a little battery left (that included a 2 mile walk in the morning using some health exercise with gear s.) I haven't even used the exercise option in this (other than the pedometer) because I'm afraid it will drain the battery.
I love everything else about the s2 though
I'm suppose to get mine this week and battery is my biggest concern. I plan to use this to run for up to 2.5 hours and play mp3's. I might cancel based on what you 2 are saying.
I do have nfc on, 3g on auto switch, and WiFi set to on (only switches on if I walk out of bt range) I did get a lot of espn notifications, texts, email...but not any more than I did on the gear S. I have the screen set to stay dark and not turn on for notifications. With my gear S I had the screen set to turn on full screen with every notification. I'm going to try tomorrow with nfc, 3g, and WiFi off....but, I shouldn't have to do that...I should be able to use all those, if needed, and still be able to get the 14-16 hours+ that I was getting with my Gear S. Like I said, I do really love everything else about it!
Try a restart
I had a terrible first day, with the Watch dying after 8 hours. I suspected that some of the app installs were having and draining it so I restarted both phone and watch.. The next day, I got 15 hours and still had 40 percent left. I have NFC and wifi turned off, network to autoswitch (with me leaving phone home and relying on 3g for 2 hours), turned off "always on" screen (because the wake gesture is SO much more accurate than with Gear S), and a white watchfacer with brightness set to 7. Very happy so far. Suggest restarting watch and phone after Gear app installs or updates
Thanks! I'll try that. Is your location/gps set to off? I also had s voice set to a voice commands and have now turned that off. Is a white watchface or black more draining? (I would assume white would drain the battery more)
I think the NFC, GPS, Always on being turned off have been a huge help with the battery life, and I understand why those things would drain a battery, but it would be nice to be able to have everything turned on and at least get a day's use.
In general I assume the first day you get the watch it his heavily impacted by the app downloads... I let it drain to zero and then fully to 100%... I also stopped playing with it every ten seconds. BUT as I mentioned earlier, this should be usable for a day minimum with normal usage. If Samsung has a "normal" usage setting in mind that will allow for a day (or the 2 days advertised for the 3g version), there should literally be an option in settings called "normal usage" that should get you the 2 days.

I absolutely agree! I was able to get 14-16 hour day (with some left) on my gear s, with all the options that I wanted turned on. This this new and improved device should, at a minimum, give me comparable battery life! I'm also having an issue with the activity tracker telling me I'm doing light activity when I'm sitting on the couch watching TV....that is definitely not light activity.

Maybe in Korea "light activity" means "couch potato"?
Yea, we'll see what happens with future updates. One of the big draws to this watch (aside from all the other enticing factors) was the battery life... I guess time will tell.

How does one get to this 'close all apps' feature?
Go to Apps and select blue circle. I think, it is last opened apps. There You can select Close all.

Was also curious about everyones setup.
First 2 days i didnt take into account battery because i was playing with it alot.
Today, booted watch at 7am, booted, got on, checked in 15 minutes, and was from 100-69%
Current setup,
display at 3%
about 10 apps that alert,
S Health
3G/4G is at auto
GPS-off
NFC-off
WiFi-off
i did have a Power Ranger face(which i loved) but it had alot livewallpaper action, blinking lights, and pieces that moved etc, changed to the default one with the stars in background with digial.
i am currently at 33% from 7 1/2 hours of usage
no music, have not taken any calls, havent responded to any messages, literally looked and swiped away.
Would a rooted Sam N4 have any effect on the performance of the watch?
I was on stock, but was horrible after the lolipop update.
Still on stock ROM, just rooted and bloatware removed, nothing special.
Ok, good thing there is a thread on this already.
So first day I didn't take battery into consideration, because you always fiddle with it too much. Then I had to work for two days, and my job is heavy construction, so I don't bring my watch, I left it on the charger for two days straight. I put it on Friday night, and didn't charge it till Saturday night. Today (Sunday) I was at 15% by about 12pm, and I took it out of the charger by 9am. This doesn't seem right. Did leaving it on the charger for too long mess up my battery? What is going on here?

Were you on just 3g...instead of bt? My battery life has improved with turning a lot of the options (wifi, nfc, heartrate monitoring) off. If I'm on 3g it is a whole different story....accidentally left my phone home the other night and was remotely connected between watch and phone....dropped down 40% in less than two hours. Has anyone else had a similar issue?
I don't have the 3g model, I have the classic. Yesterday it was good for the whole day, but to be honest I didn't check the battery when I took it off the charger this morning. I went to bed at 2am,so maybe between 2 am and 9 am it didn't have time to fully charge?

I think the variant of the 3g gear s2 and your network is key for battery life.
I have a tmobile carrier gear s2 and the battery life for the first two days was at about 18 hours off the charger each day and ending up with 15% at the end of each day before charging.
Mind you this is with 3 email accounts getting maybe 10 emails per hour, Answering texts and even taking a call or two on the watch, and also controlling my spotify for my note.
The tmobile watch has auto on/off 3g for when you disconnect from bluetooth or WiFi to your phone. I've heard that not all gear s2's have the auto on/off 3g feature?
Overall highly satisfied. But just turn off what you don't need when you don't use it has always been the name of the game when it comes to any mobile battery life. Nfc doesn't need to be on if you don't use samsung pay consistently. Neither does WiFi. Bluetooth and or 3g should be all anyone really every needs for true daily usage imo

I agree. I have had the 3g version since 2 days after its launch on T-Mobile. I had a white one and returned it b/c I was convinced something was wrong with the watch. I got a second one (black one) two weeks later and have the same issue. If I turn off all of the functions I wanted the watch for -- i.e., 3g, Wifi, NFC -- I can get a day of use. This is really disappointing b/c I have the classic as well, and it lasts twice as long with the same amount of activity. I hope Samsung does not something to extend the battery life on the 3g version.
I also have the Tmobile Gear S2 and on the first full day, I only got about 10 hours of battery life with very little use using all of the watch defaults. On day 2, I opted to turn off wifi and the cell radio and now I have great battery life. In excess of 17 hours if not more. On day 3 I decided to turn on wifi and bluetooth only. Battery life is still fantastic, once again in excess of 17 hours if not more. Next test will be all three radios on again, then just the cell radio only.
Hope this helps,
GP
What are you guys doing with your watches that you need 3g and wifi on all the time? I have mine setup with bluetooth on and 3g auto with wifi, gps, and NFC turned off. I also have the heart rate monitor turned on and set to take my heart rate as often as it will. I have screen on all day and display is at 3. I can make it a full day (630a - 10p) and still have about 40% left. I basically use mine while at work to check notifications so I'm not constantly picking up my phone just to clear a twitter notification. I know they made it so that you can use these for content consumption, but I don't think it was ever meant to be it's primary function, that's what the $700 cell phone in my pocket or the 400 tablet in my backpack is for. That being said, if you wanted to use it for a run and listen to music, do it. Just know that you may need to throw it on the charger later on when you are relaxing on the couch. To me, a full days use on any device is fair, but that's just my 2c.

Verizon battery optimization update....anyone received it?

I see that tmo and att people are getting the small battery optimization update. I'm Verizon and haven't gotten the update; has anyone on Verizon gotten it? I really want to get this update.
On Verizon. Have not gotten the update. But if I don't soon, then I am returning this thing - the battery was ok on day 1, but it only seems to have gotten worse the more I use it.
Maybe I have high expectations, but if I pull the watch off the charger at 7:00AM to go to work, use it moderately for notifications and maybe a 3G call or two, then home by 5:30PM, turn on GPS and go for a jog, the battery is dead by 6:30PM in the middle of my run! If that's what I can expect... then this watch serves no purpose for me.
I should be able to actually USE the watch somewhat during the day, and have juice left when I get home. I would be fine if, after a day of moderate use including a 1-2 mile GPS run, the battery was ready to die by 10-11PM. But 6?? C'mon...
I haven't gotten one either but my software version is R730VVRU1AOJ6. I assume yours is the same. From the software versions that people have on other versions on the S2:
Gear S2(SM-R720):
R720XXU2AOJ3 (Current NA)
Gear S2 (3G):
R730VVRU1AOJ6 (Current Verizon [SM-R730V] NA)
R730AUCU1AOL3 (Current ATT [SM-R730A] NA)
XXXXXXXXXXXX (Current Tmobile [SM-R730t] NA)
Gear S2 Classic(SM-R732):
R732XXU2AOJ3(Current NA)
R732XXU2BOL3(Current South Korea)
Credit: gsk3rd
I see the others have a 3 at the end of their versions but ours has a 6. Maybe we got the update already? Not sure, but if we did not receive it yet it's something we can expect from Verizon.... *Cough, cough* *Note 4 still didn't receive 5.1.1. update.* No love.

I hear you on the poor battery life on my first two days. I never use 3G because it was never activated, so I have everything turned off except the Bluetooth connection to connect to my phone. I did a factory reset on it and I noticed a better battery life. The watch actually did not die that day with light to moderate use. I made a couple of quick calls, responded to some texts, and messed a little with Mr. Time Maker app and it was 22% this morning. I'm bringing this one back today for a replacement because the bezel is loose/flimsy.
I have the same version. If what you say is true about Verizon and updates... then I'll be returning this watch. Not worth the price tag.

I couldn't agree more! If I happen to be on 3G and remotely connected my battery drops at a rate of 10-20% per hour. that's absolutely unacceptable
I sincerely hope that we have not already received the update because my battery life is nowhere near what they advertise. Ours still has a "j" in the software version (aoj6) and the update puts others at "l" (aol3) so....I'm hoping that since "l" is after "j" that we just haven't gotten the update yet

I believe you are correct about the letters. I am still running some test on battery life via different connection modes (ATT - AOL3) but my preliminary results on 4G suggest something close to 10% per hour with ~2.5 bars (-110dbm) cell tower signal strength on average. The life of the battery will be completely dependent on the signal stregnth. I can also confirm that if you go to an area with no signal you will kill the battery at an alarming rate (having calculated it yet but I would guess around 20% per hour).
Anyone from Verizon get this yet? I see lots of people have gotten it but I'm still waiting....

I have to say I am happier with the battery life than I was when I first got the watch. I'm not sure the cause of the increased battery performace, but I know I was toying around with the watch a ton when I first got it, trying to set it up, get familiar with it, apps, etc.
Today I am currently 4 hours off the charger and still have 85%. I have been remotely connected (phone left at home) for the full 4 hours, BT on, wifi on, GPS off, brightness set to 2, I have sent multiple texts from the watch, and I am constantly receiving gmail and hangout notifications.
Last Friday I took the watch off the charger at 8AM and used it pretty constantly all day, including GPS on for a 2 mile run (I also left GPS on after that accidentally most of the day).
I gotta say my battery is doing pretty good too after I got my new device, factory reset, and configured. I took the watch off the charger at 630am EST. I haven't used the watch much besides answering a couple of texts and checking the time. I'm on 90% at 1:33pm EST. Everything is off except bluetooth. This has been the best day of battery life so far I'm very satisfied although the new charger is making a high pitch noise when the watch is charging. I'm gonna have to have Verizon exchange that for me. Still no battery optimization update though. I wonder how much better it can get.

Is Yours the 3g? If so, that's amazing battery life. Mine is the 3g. Took mine off charger at 6am and was down below 90% at 9am. I'm averaging a drop of 4-5% per hour. (That's bt, if I go on mobile with a remote connection I drop much faster)

Yeah it's 3g. In reality we're going to be charging it every night. These batteries are better when they are charged anyways. As long as it gets me through the day I'm happy. I'm on 69% now with light use (answering some texts; checking notifications when they come, no email though I'll go crazy; checking the time; and made 3 calls). Not bad.

It's off, everything in settings is off except Bluetooth. I turned off the SHealth auto HR and alerts too.
Just talked to technical support about the update.
After talking with a nice Verizon rep she confirmed that the verizon we all have is the most current. We still haven't gotten the update that added the screen timeout options, notification light or any other new stuff. She also didn't have a date for me but said that the battery life I'm getting is abnormal. She suggested exchanging it for a new one as I'm still within my grace period. I also asked about the 5.1.1 update for my note 4 and she said it was definitely in the pipe to happen but no date sadly.
My experience has been a declining battery life since day 1, today I took it off the charger at around 7AM and it's not 10:30PM and I have 28%. I turned 3g off today to see if it would help, responded to 2 texts, and barely touched it other than that. I have wake command on and brightness is set around 3 with auto dimming and whatnot.
I'm honestly not looking for a full 2 days of battery life, it would be amazing to get some use out of it, maybe go for a 3-4 mile run using 3g and listen to some music and whatnot then go to sleep and wake up and go for it again the next day but realistically it wont happen in this version, maybe the next one.
Will report back after I swap it. Just though you all might want an update.
Has anyone on Verizon received either of the updates?
Just got the update today
Installed several hours ago. Smooth and simple. AOL3
Seems to have fixed "always on "

Great watch, awful battery (frontier LTE)

With NumberSync on, the frontier only seems to last around 9 or 10 hours on a full charge OVERNIGHT meaning I'm not doing a thing on it. Wifi is off, location is off, Bluetooth is off and obviously the screen is off. This is going to be my second day on it but unfortunately I won't be wearing it because the watch was pretty much dead when I woke up prior to work this morning. Will report back but unfortunately this isn't what I expected.
ok keep us updated

With Bluetooth off and WIFI off then the watch is using cellular to stay connected. This is probably the heaviest battery drain of all types of connection (verses BT & WIFI). Make sure cellular is also turned off or allow the watch to use BT or WIFI to stay connected.
When numbersync first rolled out for the LG Watch Urbane 2 on AT&T it was a battery hog. Could be that there are some growing pains to go thru with numbersync on Gear S3. Also, I have had my T-Mobile Gear S3 now for 3 days and each charging cycle I seem to get better mileage. I run BT on, WIFI off, always on screen, Mobile connect auto. First day very bad battery life (plus I was using it a lot) about 6+% drain per hour. During my last charge cycle I was able to use it for almost 2 full days about 3% drain per hour. Just gave it a charge this morning and so far am seeing a little over 2% drain per hour. I believe it will settle in nicely after a few more charge cycles.
Had me worried for a second there until Bladder61 explained why your battery drained so fast. This will be my first LTE connected watch [2 BT only devices in the past]. I see that leaving home for a couple of days without my phone isn't what these devices were designed for.
Mine is at 90%. On TMO though... Took it off charger around 8am. Lots of calls and notifications
So which connection setting would be best for battery conservation, WiFi or Bluetooth at at home? Obviously I'd go stand alone when I'm out and about

Nvm I'm going to quote myself and say I'm a dummy for not reading above
T-Mo LTE version here. Took mine off the charger last night at 0200. It's 2137 now and I'm at 34%. Not much use today except for some texting.
Yesterday I used it to listen to music during a 40 minute walk as well as load some music onto the Gear. Downloaded apps and organized the device and settings. I ran out of juice last night and had to charge it. With general use It definitely won't go past a day of normal use.
Okay as of right now I have my gear s3 on standalone mode for the day starting at 100 percent. I will report back with results and all current settings.
I have the LTE T-Mobile version.
I put the watch on around 8.30 am - Was half day at home and about 3-4 hours out. Barely used it besides looking at some notifications. nothing else. It's 9pm right now and the watch is at 8%. I contacted support and they insist it lasts 3 days... Has anyone found any solution?

I believe Samsung bases that 3-4 days off of running the watch at it's most economical conditions. This probably means,
Bluetooth: on
Mobile Connect: off
WIFI: off
Always on Screen: off
Minimal amount of notifications enabled
Power Saving mode or off overnight
I have owned several Android Wear, and nearly every Samsung Gear watch. The people that report several day usage are running these very minimalistic settings. The Gear S3 has a 380mAh battery, I have a LG watch Urbane 2 with cellular and it has a 580 mAh battery. With BT and auto cellular enabled I get a drain of 3% - 3.5% per hour. Now that my Gear S3 is 5 days old and has been thru several charge cycles I am getting a steady 3% per hour drain.
Try using your S3 for an entire day with minimum settings and see what you get at the end of the day. You will probably see that you could get several days use.
I want my watch always on, and I want cellular when I walk away or leave my phone. I don't want to have to flick my wrist to see time. I know that I can easily get a full day of use from the S3 and still have 40+% left at the end of the night when I throw it on the charger and go to bed.
Everyone is different, find a power solution that fits your needs. Good Luck.
Thank you for the detailed response. Means really a lot! A couple qs.
1. When the LTE/mobile connections is on auto and i'm home using wifi or bluetooth is still draining battery.
2. Always on display is a huge battery drain correct? - Really like not to see a blank screen...
What will you recommend to be the ideal settings as I spent half day home/half day out.
Is there a shortcut to turn LTE on/off quick?
Thank you so much!

Hey guys, I'm back as promised to give my feedback again. Since this morning, Ive lost 40 percent battery life (roughly 3 percent an hour). This is in stand alone mode with wifi off, nfc off, always on display is off, brightness is at 5, notifications for texting and Facebook on. I made a couple of calls earlier and answered a few texts. Didn't play around a whole lot on it though (Truthfully, didn't have a reason to).
One thing I don't understand is why to even have the lte version if it's such a battery drain over Bluetooth. Most of us I'm sure carry our cell phones around no? Anyways, the battery performed better than my initial test which basically died within 10 hours.
You've gone 13 hours in standalone mode and have more than 60% battery. To me that's awesome! I'd run AOD and just charge it nightly.
I think LTE is useful because many folks have occasions when they don't want to carry a phone (ie. running, going to the gym, gardening, hanging around the house naked). And there are a few weirdos who dream of abandoning their smartphone altogether...

I will try tomorrow with stand along along with AOD then report back! I will try other settings every day. After this, I'll do Bluetooth
I have had mine on for 24 hrs now, wifi on, bt on, auto forwarding on, AOD off, used gps once for 40 minutes, medium to heavy notifications, notifications turned off at night, brightness at level 5, and I am sitting at 40%. I figure once I get the battery trained and I don't play with it so much I will get close to three days.

Very similar usage and I got to 2 days

I'm basically getting a day of general use out of the device. Today I turned off GPS and wifi to see if there is much difference. I already have the AOD turned off. Typically I'm putting the watch on around 6:30am and back in the cradle around 9:00pm. At that point there is around 20â„… battery left. Not sure how this thing will stretch 3-4 days.
I have the t-mo LTE version and im getting close to 18 hours out of it and thats calls and txt watched 3 er 4 youtube videos on it yesterday along with some music and general goofing around with it still getting it set up
wifi on BT on screen always on auto call forwarding when i go to far from my phone and so far its doing good
I have AOD off. I don't really need to know the time unless I'm looking at the watch and as you must accomplish the same move to get the screen to wake up as you would to check the time with AOD on, I see no need to have it on. Well other than have others checking out our watch. I have Wifi and LTE set to connect automatically when I'm out of range of BT. As I'll have my phone me a majority of the time, those connections will see limited use [good thing T-Mobile gave me a free line with unlimited everything for it.] I can easily get 2 days with these settings.

Is the always-on display a power hog for the U11+?

Giving that the plus isn't using OLED, won't the always on display feature be a huge power drain for it? Or the Gen6 super LCD can do local dimming and only lit up the part of the screen where the notification is?
I'm really close to pulling the trigger on this despite having an U11 already. But the new screen, larger battery, features are just too much to pass by.
So you really like that U11 don't you.
Sure why not. Just grab it. You won't regret it.

Yeah, I think I'm just gonna go ahead and grab it. But I'm a bit curious about the ambient display/always-on that the plus has will be a problem for the battery giving its LCD screen. I know it can be turn off but I just want to get some input from any owner.
Always on display causes battery drain on an OLED panel so LCD would result in a higher drain rate
No, it's an LCD display and can't do local dimming. In a pitch black bathroom, I can see the backlight on ever so faintly but it's still on. There's an option for that to turn on only when you move the phone which uses a lot less battery, but from the short tests I did earlier the always on display does drain battery noticeably faster.
I measured this for about 6 hours. Although the screen on HTC U11+ is very dark, it still drains battery. The rate is 2% per hour. The phone was idle during those 5-6 hours. I think its not worth it.
The mode I want is "Turn the dimly lit display on when notifications arrive, and keep turning it on every 5 minutes until notifications are acknowledged". Why can't HTC do when LOS can do it?

Somehow i agree with it. After being on Android for almost 5 years with note 2 and Samsung S6 and now moving in to Iphone 8. IOS is just brilliant at standby times. My s6 was horrid in the last few months with battery and i wouldnt dare to step out with anything less than 90% and at times even 100% . So with 4G on all the time and if used the phone for 1 hour including playing lot of pictures and all i knew the battery wont last me more than 4-5 hours. It was a pain to go out with anything at 60-70% battery. However with iphone i can actually go out with 50% and still feel that i can last through 6-7 hours or even more with phone being used for 1 hour or more. I know IOS is restricted but somehow that just works for it. Wish Android could fix it.

That's not a rule, the s6 is known to have ****ty battery.
Android got good with the standby battery, don't judge the whole android system just by using samsung devices.

I'm guessing this guy isn't quite up to date, haha.
The battery drain tests all give the newest iPhones as the loser.

Lol maybe.
In the past year I have had an S8, iPhone 7, S7 Edge, OP3T, U11, Nokia 5 (budget phone) and every single on lasted longer than the iPhone lol
I've just noticed after the recent update, maybe it was there from the beginning, that this device has a lot of light bleed around the sides when using always-on feature. However I believe that any light bleeding is a hardware thing not a software thing.
This could be a reason why it drains the battery so much.
