Hi All,
I have a Note Edge 915FY. Tried to upgrade it to stock 5.0.1 via sammobile.com
It is now stuck. It just shows the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge screen and then flashes to "Recovery Booting" and just stays stuck there! For hours!
I have also tried to download 4.4.4 from sammobile.com and flash that but same thing happens. I cannot go into recovery, only into download mode.
I also tried to root it using CF-Autoroot but that failed.
Furthermore, I have tried flashing CWM and TWRP but both do nothing.
I am absolutely stuck! And I really need help!
PS: The phone has no warranty now, so I have no fallback! Please HELP!!!!!
I didn't have any luck flashing CF-AutoRoot when I was on Lollipop, I used CWM and it worked fine.
If your'e stuck go into ODIN mode (Power, Home + Down Vol) and then click up when prompted,
make sure your pc has samsung drivers installed
Download the stock 5.0.1 BOC2 ROM from this XDA page
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-edge/development/rom-stock-tw-lollipop-t3019721
(You can easily up to BOC6 or a hacked rom later)
Make sure to set Odin as shown in the picture from that same url above
http://dl-1.va.us.xda-developers.com/3/1/4/6/2/6/9/odin.PNG?key=DHp6BTdAsBVpoENIbV4DMw&ts=1431888807
This should work without any issues, I spent some cycles getting bootloops via cf-auto root and some funny ROM behaviour, I was always able to
use this to get me back to stock, root using cwm method then deploy whichever debloated rom you like !

Did you solve?
Try this (It works for me when my Note Edge was bricked):
On samsung kies 3 select "Tools --> Firmware Upgrade and Initialization" and follow the instructions.
It will ask for phone model (SM-N915FY or other) and for Serial Number S/N, this number is indicated under the battery (make attention to insert the number near S/N not near SSN).
After this It will ask to connect the phone in Download Mode and after it will start to download the firmware (more than 1GB) and will start the installation.
Boot into recovery , power + button + sound UP and clear cache and all reset.
Re do lollipop and you should be fine.
Happened to me but i worked it out after the panic stage....

I have tried this but weird enough for me, after I input the model number followed by the S/N number in Kies, I got a message "Initialization is not supported for SM-N915FY"
Its kind of fishy since the S/N input only appears after I gave Kies the Model number. If N915FY was not supported, why would they make me open up the back cover and look up for the S/N, make me type it letter by letter and then tell me 'Ok, no luck for you!'.
Any explanation and/or solution for me please? I only have 14 days of extensive researching experience, still left with a 'baseband unknown and null imei" note edge with no prior efs backup .
I think we got the same problems bro, i was very proud note edge user till two days a go, when sudden problems start to happen like restart, slowdown, loop, freeze and shoot of, later no more reboot from system menu that it just shoots of, and then latter hard to start, i had to take out battery and push start + home + volume down buttons about one minute and put back battery just to bring in to download mode and then volume down to start the in to system, and after screen is off it shots down again and again, and last time i put in to freeze to start it to see any missed calls or messages, but sens last night no way i can start any more!
I used to update apps from google and samsung store, and i em curious at this latest update, overnight was lot of data use, even in settings it was setup not to sync any data and not to use any data in background, only Viber app, so i assume there most have been sent to our phones some malware update to brick our old lovely phones, it is very possible.
Now, all i can do is to go to market to find broken screen note edge to purchase and replace motherboard, and i hope i find one not sim-locked.
So try to use Odin v3.07, and download the firmware from here https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/galaxy-note-edge/firmware/#SM-N915FY ans flash it, hope you get back your phone, and if you need to root it, use TWRP v3.02.tar flash with odin to...so the rest of procedure i guess you know!
Today i found on local phone shop+ service one note edge with a bit broken screen, but it did start and stack on kind of "recovery booting", i realized the service or the owner did try to flash sort of room on it but not completed, i bought the phone sm-n915FY model for 30.euro, and now i just transferred the motherboard to my own phone and flashed the TWRP v3.02.tar successfully and let it charge first, bcz there was only 05% battery, and later i will see if i can restore the twrp backup, and i will be careful with this update apps from google and Samsung store the gmail, androidwebsecurity**, maps and browser.
Well, my phone works now, it's just the TWRP backup is not working correct, even i modified folder of the backup, i had pssword in backup and now when i restore seek pasword, i type correct, but the phone did encrypt it. so i have to start with new room setup.
i have sgs6 gm920F NEE, i tried to root it but ended up to brick my phone. When i power it up it just get stuck in the "samsung galaxy s6" screen with little red text in the left top corner saying "recovery is not seandroid enforcing"..
I cant get to recovery or get the device up and running, all i can do is to get in odin mode/download mode.
i have downloaded official 5.1.1 firmware, i have tried using different versions of odin but everytime its the same, after the "nand write start" it just fails, every single time. i have tried to use the hidden.img only from the firmware but it ends up just booting the samsung logo over and over again. also i have tried different usb ports..
Basically i cant install new firmware via odin, i cant install it via kies (i dont know the phones serial number, receipt or the box wont say this, or the phone either)..
Is there anything i can do to this?
thx, i dont want my expensive phone to be a brick.
Try this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/general/project-zero-pac-firmware-pit-file-t3181133
Try flashing stock firmware via Smart Switch.
1. Download Smart Switch.
2. Put your phone in download mode
3. Press "more"
4. Press "Emergency software recovery and initialization"
5. Device initialization
6. search for you device - For example SM-G920F
7. Type in S/N number that was on the back of your phone.
8. Follow the steps and it should reinstall stock android for you.
!!Beware that your files and stuff will be gone!!
It worked, Quintz! Thank you so much.
At first, I had a wrong modem and could not make phone calls.
After your method, I reinstalled it again using Kies and now I have my old working phone back.
Thank you sooo much !

Hi - I really am in need of help. My phone which is a T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note 5 (was) running latest 6.x firmware,
but custom and rooted via DarkStalker's awesome ROM. All was running fine for months. I did do one thing before my phone died,
I turned OFF developer option and forgot to turn it back ON before I i rebooted. Now the phone is bricked ( I pray it is SOFT not
hard bricked ). When I turn ON the phone it just says "FRP Lock is ON" and then shuts off.
I can enter download mode but NOT recovery. This phone is my work phone and has so much important stuff on it, I just have to fix this.
Plus my wife will shot me for paying $700 and breaking it.
Anyway ... I assume I must go back to stock some how. I can boot to download mode and connect to Odin. But I tried to flash:
1) SM-N920T_1_20160702132553_r0dr7864oe.zip
Also I tried this file ( again via Odin )
2) Noble_Kernel_Auto-Root_N920T_v0.1_Rebuid3.tar.md5
But BOTH files resulted in a FAIL on the Odin screen. ( SEE PIC BELLOW )
Now when I boot it boots to a screen that says this:
Odin Mode
Download Speed: Fast
Product name: SM-N920T
Current Binary: Custom
System Status: Custom
FRP LOCK: ON
Secure Download: Enabled
Knox Warrenty Void: 1
AP Swrev: B:2 K:0 S:0

Custom Binary (Recovery) BLOCKED by FAP Lock

Sooooo basically I can NOT boot to the OS because the FRP lock is ON and I guess should be OFF, but when I try to Odin Flash I get a FAIL at the end of the flash. ( again see picture bellow )
PLEASE HELP I will try anything. .. My job and my wife are going to kill me soon.....
Cheers to all
Thanks

.

Unfortunately I did the exact same thing as you one time. And unfortunately Odin wouldn't allow me to flash anything. But there was this tool we use to use all of the time for the s4 and it's called Samsung Kies. As in "keys". Basically as long as you can get in download mode it doesn't matter how you brick it.
You just soft bricked it but the bad thing is we can't flash unadulterated version of firmware with Odin. So if frp lock is on Odin is a no go. And when I say unadulterated I mean one that's not directly from Samsung not touched or changed in anyway.... which are hard to come by in many cases in my experience. When the recovery is changed it won't pass an Odin check usually if frp lock is on. Matter of a fact I don't think you can flash anything with fap lock on with Odin. Due to the fact that frp lock is basically saying bootloader locked.
When you turn off oem mode you unlock the checks put in place by the firmware and hardware during boot. Odin uses these checks also so when you try and flash it'll be a no go. Good news for you is this already happened to me and I figured why couldn't I just restore with heimdall. Well that's a no go to. So final solution was to try out kies that I had remembered using heavily with the s4.
1. Download Samsung Kies3. Link: http://www.samsung.com/pk/support/usefulsoftware/KIES/#none
2: Install and open kies.
3. Go to the the tools tab and select firmware upgrade and initialization.
4. It will ask for your model name. Type SM-N900T.
5. Now it will ask for the Serial Number of your device. It is located on the back of your phone toward the bottom. Type that in and hit enter.
6. Now a message pops up and says the device can be restored etc...... Hit OK.
7. Now a message says Now initializing latest version. Hit OK.
8. Now it will Prepare software for initialization.
9. A screen will come up that says "Please follow the steps below to proceed with emergency recovery.
A. Make sure that the device is turned off.
B. Switch the device to recovery mode and reconnect the cable.
- To switch to recovery mode, turn on the device by pressing the Power button while holding down the Volume control "▼" Button and the Home button, and then press Continue (the Volume control "▲") button.
10. When it detects you are in download mode it will take care of the rest.
Try not to make the same mistake again.
I just rebooted with the developer options turned off on Friday. I was on ph1 firmware. Saw joeyv (spelling?) Deodexed stock rom with an option for an Odin installation. Did the installation through Odin and was back to stock. Odin flashed the kernel and tarp combo and was back up and running with root. No information was lost. For anyone else having this problem.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Thank you JohnMonsour for taking the time to write all that. I will save it for future use if needed. BUT ... thanks to Josezr I got it fixed.
I was able to boot into download mode like I stated, but I just needed the correct firm to flash. They all failed until I tried
N920TUVS4DPH2_N920TTMB4DPH2_TMB.zip ( Thank you Josezr ).
I just flashed that file and Odin completed and phone rebooted to OS. So ALL IS GOOD. My only question now is ... inside the developer
options section ( in settings ) I have turned Developer options back ON but ... all the options that can be set ON or OFF are in the OFF
position and I am not sure which should be turned on. Can anyone please give me a quick run down on how they should be set .. like this:
stay awake on
next ones set to,
on
off
off
off
on
off
ect............

Debugging

off
ect........

This is crazy I just ran into my phone becoming locked yesterday. T mobile sent me a update and my phone of course was set to auto update and my phone would do nothing it was a FRP LOCK. All I did was download odin and used this site to walk me through it all files are provided thanks to [ROM] [STOCK] N920TUVU3DPG1 | 6.0.1 | Deodexed | KNOX Free | 7.22.2016 by jovy23. At the bottum of the page is the download and also instruction to use odin. This was a life saver. LINK/ http://forum.xda-developers.com/tmo...rom-n920tuvu1boh4-5-1-1-deodexed-ciq-t3194270. Copy and past everything you need to do to get out of a FRP Lock situation is in this tutorial. Thanks again Jovy23.

its so much wrong with this write up its not funny...for one his model number is sm-n920t second if he is in frp lock then he cant turn his phone off, i tried this method it doesnt work period
you can't turn your phone off?
Yeah actually you can hard reset it and then enter download mode....
Hold volume down the home button and power for like 10 seconds then when the screen turns black you quickly hold volume down, home, and power......
You might not be able to turn it off but you can still enter recovery and download mode.
You might not be able to get into recovery depending on how screwed up your phone is.
And kies3 version was the only one that would work with the above method, now kies has checks in place that checks your knox status and if you've tripped knox it won't work. I can rewrite the guide and link the proper kies if it's really necessary. But this is from 2016 so I am sure that I don't need a proper rewrite.
And at this point I'm pretty sure it might not even matter what version of kies is used it probably does all checks server-side. So this method is obsolete for an almost obsolete phone.
Sorry I didn't help you.
Hello all.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note Edge SM-N915W8 on Rogers Wireless (Canada) running 6.0.1.
I'm at the point where I would like to root my stock ROM and I was wondering if it was better to factory reset, then root?
If I root first and then factory reset, does root stay or will I have to root again?
Also I found a set of instructions on rooting my phone and wanted to put them here and just get general feedback to see if I'm on the right track by following these steps:
For Non Rooted Users-Install TWRP Recovery In Samsung Galaxy Note Edge SM-N915W8 Canada 6.0.1 Marshmallow

- Now You can Find the SuperSu in your Mobile Applications
I also have the original stock ROM from Rogers for my model and 6.0.1 for backup.
Any suggestions/comments welcome or let me know if I'm heading in the right direction would be spiffy
I would also be curious of custom ROMs but having looked around a bit, I don't see any 6.0.1 customs that work for N915W8.
Unless I'm just not looking deep/hard enough?
I found a list online of 5.1.1 custom ROMs that say they work on the Note Edge but I'm not sure if it includes N915W8 or whether the edge screen and edge screen apps still work.
I would love any suggestions or recommendations on customs that would work with my version of the Note Edge.
So no responses? I guess what I posted is correct? I guess I'll just have to attempt it...

Sounds about right.
I just did mine after an update to 6.01.
Man is that system loaded with crap!
It's taken me a few evenings to pare it right down, but it's looking real good.
No wonder people are complaining about bad battery life.
I would start by going through all the settings menus and turn off all the auto update and report back stuff in the different sections.
There's LOTS of it.
My download came directly from Samsung and I used Kies,NOT Kies 3 as Samsung suggested.
I got what I wanted and install was a breeze.
My home computer uses Windows 7 Ultimate.
I don't know if that's what made things different
I also found Titanium backup gave me some headaches when I was debloating.
I got an error on reboot and ended up doing a total reinstall.
Oh well.
It's flying real fast so far.
I also found there "vendor entries" in Data that corresponded to Rogers as well as others.
My provider is Bell.
I'm betting that Samsung is using a generic ROM for all the Canadian phones.
Going to try
going to try this tonight, Rogers phone but I'm on Koodo.
Goal is to purge this phone of all bloat, what app do you use to do that with?
Is there a guide you followed? I think I can do it with just the steps listed above, I've rooted my S2 and Note2 before... Still, links would be nice...
any tips?

Tips?
I use CWM recovery now,not TWRP.
I couldn't reduce the brightness in TWRP and wound up with two vertical pink bars in either side of my screen.
I did love the features built into it though....too bad about the GUI.
I use four things for removing apps'.
SD Maid Pro ....my primary.
Titanium backup.
ES File explorer Pro....very final at what it does
System app remover pro.
As you can tell,I always go pro.....I hate advertizing.
These all work in slightly different ways, but I always make sure Titanium has a backup of them first.
You can start debloating by getting rid of crap like Facebook, etc.
It's not like you can't get there through your normal browser....really Samsung, does it need it's own app' ?
Try turning off all the auto sync' ware such as the one in photo gallery, error reporting, locations, etc.
That should get you started.
Hello! I am trying to root my Note Edge as well (Rogers) and am having some difficulty. I followed the steps outlined; however, keep getting the TWRP Menu on rebooting (not entering recovery). Is someone able to assist? Thank you!

Hello! I was able to fix the problem. I believe the issue is with this step: "Select Wipe->Advance Wipe->Select Cache,System,Data." This wiped the OS from my phone, which is why it seemed to always boot into the TWRP Recovery menu. Instead, I chose "Wipe->Format Data," after reinstalling the OS, I also deselected "Auto Reboot," prior to installing SuperSU. Also, the version of SuperSU has to be greater than 2.76. Thanks for responding.

I had the same issue as well when installing the CF-Auto-Root file, it would brick the phone and Odin give the Fail error message. What I did was installed the stock ROM from SamMobile, then installed TWRP - booted directly into the TWRP menu and installed SuperSU. Phone is now rooted and working well. Hope this helps.
Hey guys, i have been trying get my S7 rooted, so i can get rid of Touchwiz, cuz i hate it..
and i seem to have come across a snag. I think im just missing something. I try to install Superuser.. but says i dont have root access. I downloaded an app called rootchecker, and it says the same thing. However, my S7 boot screen has an unlocked image of a lock. Also, while running, the samsung apps give me errors saying my phone has been tampered with. So i think i am close.. but not fully done.
Here is the steps i used.
Download Samsung USB driver.
Download Odin.
Download Boot Recovery For Install TWRP Recovery In Samsung Galaxy S7 ATT SM-G930A Nougat.
Install the Samsung USB Driver on your PC.
Extract the Odin Files on your PC.
Copy the TWRP Recovery files on your PC.
Enable USB Debugging Mode->Tap 7-10 Times in Build Number->Enable USB debugging Mode.
Switch off your Mobile.
Enter into Download mode->Volume Down+Home+Power Buttons.
After entering into Download Mode it will say Warning Press Volume Up button to continue.
Connect Your Mobile With PC via USB Cable.
Launch Odin Application. It Will Show the message added. If you did not get this message Repeat the above steps.
After Getting Added Message Select PDA Button then Browse for the TWRP Recovery file Select it.
Tick the Auto reboot.
You can check the TWRP Recovery is Correctly installed or not by Entering into Recovery Mode->Switch off your Mobile->Volume Up+Home+Power Buttons.
so, when i do the last step, to go into recovery, it doesnt do anything. it boots to a black screen.
Is there something i did wrong?
one last question, is there a rom out there, that is just stock android, no added touchwiz overlay, or something like that, that i can flash on my S7. Basically wanting to have my Nexus 5x, system on my S7.

Yeah there are a few Custom Roms based on Stock Android like: Lineage OS, Resurrection OS, SlimRom, AOSP Extended and many more, but the problem with these custom ROMs is that some of them are not that stable in comparison with custom ROMs based on TouchWiz and some of them are also missing a few features.

This belongs in Q&A section, not in the ROM section. Requesting admin to move the thread
"Samsung Galaxy S7 ATT SM-G930A Nougat"
This is a SNAPDRAGON S7, right? Then there is no other ROM for you, only TouchWiz and STOCK ROM . (Not even custom modifications if I'm right)
Just see if magisk works with your variant. I think it does. If it does, then just flash magisk zip file using trwp recovery. Make sure "enable oem unlock" is enabled in developer options, otherwise you will not be able to boot your phone with a modified kernel.
