A Nokia scratched my screen, didn't think it would be so quick! - Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Guides, News, & Discussion

So, I accidentally dropped my Lumia 930 on my S7 Edge while plugging the chargers, and just like it's precedents 3310, the Lumia marked my edge screen! Wow!
I was sleepy on my bed and I got a bunch of chargers on my side, honestly I almost just put the Lumia over the S7 Edge, it was a small drop. But yeah it got sharp corners made of aluminum. Both phones were actually resting comfortably on my bed.
I'm in shock, since I can't take a screenshot of the scratch because I'm typing on my S7 right now, I'll post pictures later.
On the other hand my Lumia has no scratches...

The first drop test is in

I think it fared just as well as we thought it would. It's pretty durable and scratch resistant but not shatterproof, that's for sure.

Looks like we're still dealing with GG4 here.
Thanks. I've been waiting for this
Fair play to the iPhone, that is one hardy piece of kit. As for the S7, given the amount of glass it has externally, it did about as well as I would have expected. Personally, I'd prefer the back to be aluminium rather than glass, but there is no doubt it wouldn't have looked as nice. I'm going to have a silicon cover on mine, so would hope the only likely drops will result in no issues at all. Then again, I can count the amount of times I have dropped phones on less than one hand in the last five years.
That's disappointing. The S6 edge did a bit better back in the day?

To be fair, you can't take one test like that and compare it directly to another device in a similar test and say one is conclusively better, or at least not from a single test anyway. There are numerous factors which could make a massive difference. Simple fortune on how the device lands for example could be the difference between a cracked screen and a few scratches. Look at the iPhone 6s+ screen in that test for example, it didn't break at all despite all those tests. Yet I remember seeing another drop test on exactly the same device which resulted in a cracked screen on the second drop from head height. There are simply too many factors involved.
That said, the flat glass on the back of the S6 does strike me as being more resilient, purely due to the shape and the fact it would be more difficult to make contact with the ground on a drop. The metal surround would invariably make contact first.
The 6S is indestructible lol. In any case, the Edge fared far better than I thought it would.
GG4 on the back glass and GG5 on the front https://youtu.be/D_bB5fnN7Jk
I really wish Samsung would do what Motorolo did a few years ago and let you build the phone to your liking. Ok I want an aluminum back, 8 cores, 8gb or Ram, etc and it cost this much....
I have never been a fan of the glass backs. I throw mine in a case right away for protection so could care less about it being pretty... I want it to be durable... I mean I did just shell out a lot of money for it and I want it to LAST!!!
Talking about that video above, I have always found it amazing that anyone would keep their phone in their back pocket. Absolute stupidity.
There wouldn't be wireless charging if no glass back? Or maybe Samsung Pay? Aluminum back would be a conductor. The s7 edge is rather bigger than the s6/edge so there's more surface area for damage and any point of strike will have a higher chance of cracking. The phone did really good I'd say....

Craked screen

Please be advised. I dropped my phone from the side of my bed. It went face down on semi hard wood. The front screen is cracked. No joke. I have had the phone for 2 weeks only. I saw all the youtube drop tests, and I can assure you that they were very lucky to have their phone screen surviving from pocket and shoulder drop. Get a very good case and screen protector. Do not use the phone without it. Just trust me, from the side of my bed (one food and 3/4 high). I may have been unlucky, but there will be other circumstance of unluckiness. Just get a case, a very good one and a very good screen protector. They can replace the screen for 350 plus tx, but you loose the water resistance after automatically.
This situation sounds exactly similar to my Galaxy Note 4 as well.. I left it on my bed and not sure how it landed when it fell off (1-2ft high) off the bed. Cracked through my glass screen protector and left a small hole on my screen. It looks like someone took a screwdriver and stab my phone really hard. I didn't have anything hard particular on the floor and my only assumption it probably landed on a powerbrick.

Dropped Mi Mix

The phone is really weak, I drop it less than 1 meter I forget it on my knees.
I share with you the picture
With a case or without
It's a pretty brittle phone. If you drop it on the corners it's done (as pictured)
I wonder why anyone would think it could even stand a small fall. Ceramic, even though one of the hardest materials with scratch resistance on par with Sapphire, is also very a brittle material.
I would be worried if this level of damage happened even with a decent case.
Until the OP responds, we'll never know.

I have had 2 so far. Dropped one with the case. Small fall 2ft and corner got nicked even with the case. So I gave that to my wife and bought a 6GB version. Dropped that again (1ft drop) and same exact place got nicked.
I would not buy another one. Love the phone but not that much.

What type of case did you have? Was it the included leather case?

Ouch, where to next then? Mate 9?
Original case.
Next phone would be S8 if the renders are true. My favorite phone by far was the note 7, but you know how that went.
I usually change my phone's every few months so let's see what else is out there that catches my eye.

S8 won't survive drops much better. Especially the curved sides will be sensitive for hits like the corners of the MIX are. And well my two Note 7 i've owned were very very sensitive at the curved sides. Because of i could return both units in any condition i tested smash resistance. Just a soft hit on the curved sides with any hard object, display cracked. Dropped the device from half a meter to one of the four corner, display cracked, frame not looking nice. Without a real ruggedized case most actual mobiles, like S7 Edge, Note 7, Mate 9 Porsche, etc. won't survive drops onto the weak parts of the casing.
I also dropped mine waist high with one of those jelly clear case right on the corner, lucky me it only got a small tiny chipped on the screen it's barely noticeable, I think that my heart stopped for a second when that happened.
This is why any case should have a front bezel and padded corners.
I dropped mine waist height and it landed directly on the corner. No damage.
I've dropped mine a few times from chest level onto carpet. It landed face down most times and so far nothing chipped. It's the original case.

Which case were you using?
I dropped mine from about 2 feet onto hardwood last night without a case on. Thankfully no scratches or chips or anything but now that I've dropped it once I'm scared to death. Certainly does seem to be a matter of time before it gets destroyed, at least without a case.
But honestly putting a case on this thing seems like it would almost entirely defeat the whole purpose of this phone, at least for me.

I know most of the curved glass devices wont hold up to drops, but with samsung and other devices (major brands) at least I can get parts and repair the phone. With this phone that's not happening, However I still love it and its my daily phone.

Yes, right, but if you see the price for a display for example you're directly start thinking about ordering a new phone
Edit: @cellspare they have Mix replacement display in stock. But no idea about quality of this shop.

This one. It's pretty good, doesn't add much bulk.

You can find it for cheap on Aliexpress
I dropped mine from chest height with the included case onto hard tile. Landed right on the corner where the front camera is. Chipped it lightly, and now there are a few small spots in the corner that look a bit like the camera hole. I didn't expect it to even survive the drop, and was quite impressed the display didn't crack.

To be fair, that corner does have a sizable bezel (assuming you're talking about the front facing camera). I wonder what the impact would've been if it was either of the upper corners.

Sony xperia xzs claim to have corning gorila glass but..

I just bought the phone 2 weeks ago and i loved it. But just now i accidentally dropped it like about 5cm from a tiles floor. And i noticed there is a slight scratch at the bottom left side edge of the screen. Can anyone tell me is it really this fragile? Because i used Asus zen 2 laser before with corning gorila glass 4, and it was incredibly strong i dropped it more than 10 time on rough surface like the road surface. Is it any way that i can get my beautiful screen back? Pls fast response ?
People seems to think just because it has this and that, that it makes the phone indestructible. Isn't GL5 stronger but can scratch easier? While the previous are weaker but more scratch resistant.
Anyway, it all depends on how it falls and hits the thousands different materials... Tiles are pretty damn hard so you should be lucky it even survived if it hit the corner.
I don't know any way to make scratches magically disappear so you would have to replace the glass itself.

Little bend when phone is lying on screen

I've noticed little bend from charging side (about 0.5-1 mm) when my S8+ is lying on screer.
Is this normal or this in because of carrying it in pocket or sth. Have you got the same issue?

NO DEVICES HAVE THAT, im sorry. its perception or surface or angle you see. it takes 40 lbs or more bending it by placing it on edge to table to make bend like that. OR YOU HAVE A CASE ON IT, MANY HAVE RAISED LIPS.

I know you posted this a while back but I didn't see the thread until now but I have noticed the same thing and the person that responded to you said a case but even without the case I have noticed that my phone had warped a bit and it's always in my front pocket.
