[Completed] Samsung Galaxy Alpha (SM-G850F) + Kies 3 - XDA Assist

I am in desperate need of assistance:
I downloaded and installed the latest versin of Kies 3 (3.12.03), because I wanted to update my firmware. I last updated the firmware last summer (2015) when Lollipop became available for my device. It wored flawlessly back then.
Well, it simply doesn't work this time. It either hangs itself when I connect the phone after Kies 3 was launched, or it greys out completely (the whole application) when I select "Firmware upgrade and initialization".
I already tried upgrading via Odin, but the md5 I downloaded seems incompatible with my device, leading to a "Failed!" result (I picked the UK version since I have my phone in English, and no, I didn't buy it with a provider, I bought it brand-free).
Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

[Q] In desperate need of help regarding S2 stock firmware!

Hello Xda! I hope you've all had a wonderful christmas eve and an even better new year! I've joined this site after headhunting and reading numerous posts touching different topics regarding one subject and one subject alone: Samsung Galaxy S2.
Now, on to the issue at hand. After tweaking and modifying my firmware, in hopes of getting Cyanogen 7 to run along with the ICS theme for it and having failed, my Sg2 has never been the same, of one simple reason: I haven't found the exact stock firmware that fits my phone. When I write "fits my phone" I actually don't refer to the fact that they aren't working as they indeed are, but no-one that's up to date.
The problem could've been easily fixed if Samsung Kies actually worked with my Windows 7 64-bit, which it doesn't, and please, don't point me in the direction of other posts such as "untick debugging mode", "reinstall Kies", "install those drivers by searching 'this' and 'that' on Google", because trust me, I've tried everything. It worked for a couple of days, but now as I really need it, and want to get out of the hellhole I call "KE2", it doesn't seem to want to help me, at all. "This device is not supported by Kies".
Now, I've visited another thread here on xda, more or less this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and dabbled myself through numerous versions until I finally settled for XWKE2 - Generic NEE and successfully managed it to run on my phone with Odin.
Since my phone is operator locked and I'm paying for it monthly via a Swedish operator known as Telenor I'm not able to update the firmware via About phone -> Software update either.
As I said, Kies isn't able to update my phone to 2.3.5/ KE7 (or whatever version is the newest) and I'm thusly stuck with XWKE2 & 2.33.
The most major problem I have is that I don't know which firmware to download from the topic I provided above, and I'd really like to know which one to actually download in order to have the most up-to-date version.
I'd immensely appreciate any help!

Help a Noob

Hey guys, im new.
Got a question if you dont mind? (hope this is the right place to post)
I have a Galaxy S2 GT i9100, im on the network 3 in the UK, and the phone is unbranded and unlocked.
i recently flashed the Polish version of the official ICS because i am impatient. (3 released their version 3 days later )
so, i began the process of flashing an older rom, KE7 to be exact, just so Kies can accept my phone to back up and to receive the latest official UK release of 3s ICS. I have successfully flashed and kies recognised my phone, but the version it is suggesting to update to is KI4??
Do i need to update the firmwares previous to ICS before i can actually get ICS?
Any help will be appreciated.
thanks
You need to flash the 3 branded firmware in order to get the recent 3 update. If that's what you did then I don't know what's wrong. If you didn't do that then go get the correct firmware from here...
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928
Thanks for the reply,
foolishly i never checked what the original firmware was, but i never had a '3' logo on the boot up of the phone, i didnt buy it from '3' either, i got it from an online based contract provider on '3'.
So i just assumed i could reflash a sim free firmware then kies would recognise my number as being a '3' number - or is this not the case?
Do you think i should download the KI4 and see if it recommends a futher update?
Cheers
will do, il report back.
Officially updated through kies to 2.3.4 KI4, but no update to ICS. hmm, not sure what to do next, try another base firmware?
Any suggestions?
If you have an official 3 firmware then it should be offering you the update, as far as I'm aware. I suppose the fact that it came from a non-3 supplier may make a difference.
The alternative is to just download and flash the latest 3 firmware yourself, which you can get here...
http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9100&r=1
Just scroll to the bottom of the list and you'll see LPQ for 3 customers.
ahh, that was going to be my next question 'would the fact i got it through a third party vendor determin whether i got ics through 3' i cant find a clear answer for this.
so if i take the bloatware on the chin and get ics through odin on 3, would kies recognise this and enable me to back up?

[Completed] [Q] Galaxy Note II OS update problem from 4.1.2

I am using Verizon note 2 (SCH-I605) and it has been like 2 years now. It's version is 4.1.2 right now.
Couple days ago, I tried to update by going through setting -about phone- software update - check new
But, once I tried to check, 'service unavailable' pops up and makes me go to setting > about phone when service is available.
Status says my software is up to date.
I tried Kies both 2.6 and 3, but when I connected my phone, it says 'this kies does not support my phone' for both version.
Now I am totally lost what I should do. I searched several things for several days, but have no idea.

Yes, KIES and OTA updater are a little bit ... how to say ... sensitive. if your current region does not fit to the original region/country set in the system settings, you won't get any updates this way.
There is a way to flash the firmware manually.
Check this thread: [GUIDE][VZW Edition]How to Root/Rom/Return to Stock the VZW Galaxy Note II!.
If you register on xda, you can post your questions in the Verizon Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum to get answers from users having the same device like you.
Thead closed. Thank you.

[Completed] Upgrade Samsung Galaxy Alpha (SM-G850F)

Hi,
I'm seeking for some help. I have a phone with an old android version on it (4.4.2). It looks like that I will never receive an update via OTA, so I tried to upgrade it by my own. I tried to use Kies but it told me that I have the most recent version. After that I installed Heimdall and JOdin and downloaded a firmware (5.0.2) from here. I tried to follow the instructions of JOdin but failed. Every one of them are using some kind of script to download and install the new firmware or I don't know. And I couldn't find a way to use the downloaded firmware (about 2 gigs).
Is there a way to upgrade my phone to an original samsung firmware via my Mac (El Capitano) ?
Thanks for your help in advance

Yes, flashing a new firmware on a Samsung device via a Mac is not that easy.
The flashing tool no. 1 is Odin ... which is for Windows only.
If your device is rooted, you may try on-device flashing with Mobile Odin or FlashFire app from Chainfire.
Alternatively you can install Odin in a Windows virtual box on your Mac.

Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Uk firmware needed (5.1.1)

Hello everyone,
Newbie posting here after several fruitless attempts to find what i'm looking for.
My granddaughter has now taken ownership of my old Galaxy Note 4 (SM-910F), Uk , unlocked model. Recently, after the Android 6.0.1 update that has been applied, her phone now randomly switches itself off, often during a telephone call. I have had a brief look and now it will not complete a proper boot and is stuck in boot mode. I have cleared the cache and performed a full factory reset, but to no avail. My next port of call is to root it with a stock version of the earlier 5.1.1 firmware, but i cannot find a uk copy anywhere. I have registered on SamMobile, but every time i select the phone and the firmware, i'm taken to a download page where i have to pay a monthly subscription to get the software.
Is there anywhere i can get the firmware for free, as if this fails, then the phone is rendered useless.
Any thoughts or help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Kind Regards
Lee.

I’m pretty certain there’s no charge, in fact it’s free but the downloads a bit slower. You will need Odin as well as the firmware too.
