[PLEASE, FAST ANSWER] Wifi tether by wifi. - General Questions and Answers

Hello,
I marked this post as fast answer because I have no internet by the end of tomorrow.
I have an android phone and an android tablet, both can receive WI-FI over an public wifi hotspot "freewifi" (In france).
I want to tether that public hotspot over wifi because the signal is only in the garden, so I can use it in home.
My android phone can only tether 3G/4G signals and my tablet can't tether since the wifi is only activated to receive the signal.
I can put a wifi key in my phone or tablet but I don't think that's possible that way.
Basically, what I want to do is a WiFi repeater but with my phone or tablet to enjoy the wifi in the house.
Thank you for all answers.

the only way i could think of this actually working and this is a big maybe. is using an OTG cable from your phone to an external usb wifi. IF your device supports such things. and if thats even able to bridge the connection from one to the other.. Would have easier time using an old laptop(still will need a 2nd wifi card/or usb wifi adapter) or something in this case honestly or just pickup a wifi repeater/range booster. Also some wireless routers do allow you to use it as a repeater.

Thank you, I will try that.

I found an android app named "fqrouter2" that repeats the wifi signal, needs root, gotta try that.

[Q] Using 3G and Wifi simultaneously

I have a Samsung i5800 and would like to use my data plan to use the Internet at home.
I tried setting my router Dlink DIR600 (ddwrt) to connect the phone but for some reason the Dlink is unable to connect to the Adroc network generated by android-wifi-tether.
So I thought to make the phone connect to the Dlink and to make the computers to route the internet through the android but the android does not allow the Wifi and 3G running at the same time.
Is this possible?
no!!!!!!!!
you cant link your router to your phone to boost the signal per say. What you can do is just a simple android tether to the devices you want to use at your home
You can't do that on your Android phone.
Thank you.

[Q] Internet Pass-Through for non Sense ROMs?

Any developers out there know if it it possible to port the Internet Pass-Through feature [aka Reverse Tethering] of Sense ROMs to AOSP ROMs?
There is a thread here which talks about in length but it is not a simple or trouble-free process.
If HTC can do it, surely it can't be that hard! I would love to be able to move to an AOSP ROM on my One S but cannot go without the Pass-through feature.
I'm curious about how you got pass through to work? Hasn't worked for me yet because the drivers never install when I plug my phone in. And, if it did actually work, does your phone use it like WiFi so WiFi calling works? That'd be what I need it for most.

We don't have Wifi calling on the EU phone, but then we are rarely out of range of a cell.
To get Pass-through to work, it is just a matter of connecting the phone via usb to a computer and selecting Internet pass-through from the pop-up dialogue box
BUT:
There are issues with certain firewalls. When I got the phone I was using Bullguard Internet Security on my laptop and I could not get internet pass-through to work via the firewall (it worked fine if I disabled Bullguard). I spent about 3 hours online with a Bullguard technician who was unable to solve the problem.
I have since removed Bullguard and installed Microsoft Internet Security Essentials. There are no firewall problems with MISE.
You must have the latest version of HTC sync installed for Pass-through to work.
Internet Pass-through allows the phone to connect to the internet via your PC's internet connection. I use it a lot because I spend a lot of time in hotels all around Europe. When I am out of the UK I do not use roaming data (too expensive) but I always have internet in my hotel room. This is either a wired connection, or (more often) it is a WiFi connection for a single device only. I use the hotel connection for my laptop and the pass-through connection for my phone.
I am not sure if this setup would give you WiFi calling as I am not really sure how that works (does the phone differentiate between a WiFi connection and a wired connection)? It would allow you to use Skype or another VOIP service to make calls.

I agree that it would be cool if devs could port this to other roms.
Just on the off chance someone might get some use from it, here's what I do. If you're travelling with a laptop and your hotel has Ethernet, it's really easy to set your laptop to broadcast an adhoc network to share with your phone.
I know it doesn't help with hotels that only have WiFi for one device, but with places that have Ethernet and WiFi, I find that tethering to my own laptop gets me a much better connection, and it means I don't have to lug around my router.
Sorry for the OT, back to the discussion

[Q] Hot Spot feature

Can someone explain why this tablet needs a Hotspot. If it doesn't have 3G/4G connectivity why would I need to connect something to this device? When I connect it to a Wifi any other device could connect to the same Wifi without going through the tablet. When I connect the tablet to my phone I just turn on the Hotspot on my phone and connect the tablet via Wifi. So my question is what is the purpose of having a Hotspot built into this tablet? I'm just not seeing a need for it........
Because USB Ethernet adapters work, too. My work has no WiFi Router in range for me, but I can connect a LAN cable to my tablet and turn that into a WiFi hotspot for my phone.
And Hotspot is just a general feature in Android. It also not makes any sense to have mobile.data and such (which is also clogging memory) on a non-telephone tablet, it's just there.

[Q] wifi hotspot

Hi all,
Wondering if anyone knows of an Android app that will allow me to share the lan connection on my tablet via wifi?
Have looked at lots of hotspot type apps but the vast majority are simple shortcuts to an exisiting wifi hotspot function that shares the mobile data connection.
Seems daft to me that I have lan and wifi on my tablet but I'm looking at an ap to connect my other devices!
Thanks
Jin
I didnt understand what u said
If u want to share ur tab net to other use wifi hotspot
If u have wifi connection u can connect via wifi

Are you trying to tether your data connection or do you mean using your tablet as a hub for an existing wifi connection?
What phone do you have?
What carrier?
Did you root your phone?
Have you flashed a new ROM?
Sorry but you were rather vague in your post.

Ok thanks. To clarify my tablet (not phone and therefore no carrier involved) has both ethernet and wifi I would like to use the ethernet to connect to my network/internet and then broadcast that connection via wifi.
This is exactly the same thing a normal wifi hotspot does except it broadcasts the mobile data connection as opposed to a wired connection.
The tablet has been flashed with Tims 6 ROM
Don't now if it's possible. On phone it;s not possible to share be a hotspot when you're on wifi. I guess it uses the same piece of hardware. That might also be the case for you with the LAN.
BTW try talking to this guy :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1735708
he had sort of the same question perhaps he figured it out?
edit: This is also you i now see.. never mind

How do you have your tablet connected to the internet, wireless or wired? If wired, how did you do that? If it's wireless, you're just using your tablet as a signal booster.
What i'm confused on is if you connected your tablet wireless and want to connect other devices to your tablet's "wifi" which in essence is wifi, why can't that device connect to the same internet as your tablet?
I think we're all a bit confused on what you're trying to accomplish.
Sorry folks struggling here with what you don't get (not being smart just confused)
I have an Android tablet that has both wifi and an ethernet connection, I connect to my network via ethernet and want to use that connection to then create a wifi hotspot for my other devices to connect to.
I already do this with my win7 laptop and am looking for an app to do the same on the tablet.
If my terminology is correct I need to bridge the lan connection to the wifi adapter?

USB wifi tethering is really annoying to enable, but my oneplus 5T does it easy?!

As in the title, I'm finding it very annoying just to share my phone's wifi connection to my pc via usb tethering. My oneplus 5t just does it, no need for some stupid workaround. The 7 pro is forcing the wifi to disconnect upon enabling tethering. I found a workaround, but i feel like it's just a stupid bug.
The "bug" is going in the hotspot and tethering settings, first having my usb connected. Then enabling usb tethering (it will kill wifi), then turn wifi back on.. Which still leaves usb tethering on. Not an ideal way just to enable wifi tethering..
In most cases you cannot have both WiFi (on the phone itself) and USB tethering activated at the same time. The reason is quite logical from the standpoint of the phone...it generally uses WiFi for its own internet access...at times...and it uses WiFi to share internet access with an external device like a laptop. So the phone can get confused when you use USB tethering to share an internet connection with a laptop and then turn on WiFi also...the phone is not sure what you are trying to do.

Try VPN hotspot from play store, it allows you to share your Wi-Fi, I use it for that purpose. Use the repeater option, and you can access configuration in the top right corner.

One would use wifi usb tethering when: You want to share an WIFI (as opposed to usually slower Data) internet connection with a computer that has horrible connectivity.

The bug part already shows the workaround i had to use to share wifi through USB.
It's annoying to me because the oneplus 5T does it instantly.
