Hi
Stock ROM not rooted.
My Nexus 5 is telling me it has an OTA update available.
When I click on it it downloads and then reboots the phone to TWRP at which point nothing happens, I'm in TWRP.
Is there any way to make TWRP support the OTA update or do I need to flash stock recovery ?
Thanks

I wounder the same thing! I've a custom kernel also!
No, if you are not completely stock you cannot get OTA updates. Download them from google, the links are in general forum. Download the full stock rom and flash just what is needed in fastboot.

Hello, I would like to know if its possible to take the stock recovery.img from my current ROM which is German Stock 4.4.2 and back it up for later use.
I want to do this because i want to root my device and then return back to stock recovery. I have already tried something, btw my bootloader is unlocked.
I installed thr official german 4.3, sideloaded the official german 4.4.2 and used cwm and rooted but then i looked in both zips of the stock roms and there was recovery.img only in thr 4.3 one so after rooting i flashed recovery.img which screwed everything, because another small official ota update, only 1.9mb which was already on 4.4.2 with 4.3 recovery and the phone booted normally and wanted to update that small ota update and after 1 min the phone restarted but it wouldnt go to the recovery and install the update it wpuld reboot over and over again
My question is how can i back up the stock 4.4.2 recovery.img for later use, thanks in advance for amy helpful posts

Hi,
I think the easiest way would be to check your ROM version and download the complete firmware from somewhere like FileFactory and that package should include the stock recovery which can be easily flashed back after you are done with the root.
I just bought my nexus 5 and it's rooted with a custom ROM. Will I still get the update? I have a backup of the stock ROM but not the stock recovery. Do I need to restore my backup and wait for the update? Thanks.
If you want the ota, go back to stock. Or wait a few days and flash lollipop from your custom recovery I once a Dev packages it up. Or fastboot flash it as soon as available.
Depends on how patient you can be and how technical you are prepared to be.
I will be editing far the system image and fast boot flashing myself.
I think you have to be on stock ROM with the stock recovery to get the 5.0 ota.
IMO you can wait for the factory images from Google and flash them directly rather then flash stock ROM and recovery now and wait for the ota, because OTA will hit later then the factory images.

U could have asked that in the lollipop thread...
No u will need stock recovery to flash ota.....
Also i would strictly advice u to either flash pure kitkat image...or lollipop image .... That would prevent most of the bugs u encounter wid userdata...

If you're going to live in the rooted world, you should learn to do things properly. OTA is the worst way of managing a rooted phone, which is why I said OTA is super-noob. If someone is reliant on OTA updates, they probably should not be rooted in the first place.

See above
There are also dedicated OTA threads as well as dedicated Lollipop threads. Nor does this belong in General.
This thread has all of the OTA info you could imagine.

As mentioned above. We have a dedicated OTA thread.
Closed.
As we All know we are going to get Android 5.0 Lollipop OTA in coming days and for OTA stock recovery is necessary.
Downloading whole firmware just for stock recovery is not worthy that's why I'm sharing stock recovery of Asian variant(XT1033 including India).

Waiting so anxiously for Lollipop
BUT, flashing the ENTIRE firmware to OTA your device is a MUST.
OTA will fail if your device was rooted then unrooted because system partition was modified by root.. So, for the update to succesfully work, you have to flash entire firmware (including stock recovery), like it or not, to have an untouched system partition.
Flashing only stock recovery again is not enough, it will make no difference, OTA will fail.
So, this thread is kinda useless if you think about it...

Flashing Stock recovery alone wont work... I tried flashing the stock recovery alone for upgrading to 4.4.4.. but it didn't work..... We need to flash the whole firmware again for successful upgrade..
But it's good if somebody else want to find official recovery

Is there a pure stock 5.0.1 zip for the Nexus 5? Basically a zip version of the OTA update. I'm rooted with a custom recovery so I can't do the OTA. I was looking around but couldn't find it.

You're not going to find an ota zip that works in a custom recovery. Flash the stock recovery then sideload the ota zip in it. You'll have to re-root and reinstall the custom recovery.

You will never be able to flash an OTA again if you modified your device in any way. One of the biggest changes for Lollipop that no one noticed.

Interesting. I normally just flash factory images or a custom ROM.

You will still be able to flash the factory image when it becomes available.
hi,
I have Lolipop 5.0 in my Moto G + root + TWRP. I received the 5.0.1 OTA but of course I can't apply the update because of TWRP. I read (here) that I need to come back to stock recovery to apply the update. I'll loose root access but that's ok, I'll root again later. My question is: how do I come back to stock recovery?
Thank you.
The same way you flash twrp.

can't find XT1032 Lollipop stock recovery on XDA, I guess I'll have to open a new thread to ask... I flashed 4.4.4 stock recovery (through MotoTool AIO software) but I haven't been able to flash 5.0.1 update then. So I think 5.0 stock recovery is required to update to 5.0.1.
Thanks for your help.
If by chance you have the link to XT1032 5.0 stock recovery, please post it!

I guess you're using custom rom so restore to STOCK ROM .
Follow this guide (at the end dont flash any custom recovery) Stock recovery XT1032
Automatically you'll get stock recovery

no, I'm using stock ROM, with TWRP + root, that's it. So I just need to stock recovery to apply OTA update.
But thanks for the link, I understand how to use it to come back to stock recovery. Except... that this guide is for XT1033. Do you think I can use recovery.img XT1033 image file to flash my XT1032?
