HTC One M8 Error while flashing RUU - Verizon HTC One (M8)

Hello. I am not sure if I am the only one with this issue but here it is.
I have a Verizon HTC One M8. Here is the condition:
NOT rooted
NO OS installed
Stock recovery installed (Can't flash a custom recovery)
S-ON
LOCKED bootloader
Here is some other useful information:
HBoot-3.19.0.0000
Radio-1.14.20.0930
OS-6.21.605.3
Okay, so it is very possible that there is no hope for this phone, but I still feel like there could be. In the state that it is in, I have assumed that I could just flash an RUU so that I would return to stock. This wouldn't work. Every time I would try to flash it through fastboot on the device, I would get part of the way through flashing and then it would say:
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: 12 signature verify fail)
I have been told that this could mean that the that I have downloaded is possibly corrupt. This seems to not be the case as I have tried downloading it 3 different times. I have also checked the MD5 and they match. I have also tried flashing the RUU by using the executable version. This as well doesn't work. When I try to flash, It gets near to the end of the process and then fails with the error [132] stating that I need to find a RUU that matches my firmware (You can see this in the video linked below). The problem with this is that the RUU that I am using seems to match my firmware. Here is a copy of the txt document that is located within the rom for the RUU.
DelUserData:0
modelid: 0P6B20000
cidnum: VZW__001
mainver: 6.21.605.3

aareport:1
hbootpreupdate:12
DelCache:1
DelFrp:1
Seeing the mainver number leads me to believe that this will work on my device. Feel free to link me to the proper RUU if this is wrong.
One other problem is that in order to install a recovery, I need access to adb. I don't have access to adb as I can't turn on USB Debugging because my device doesn't have a OS installed on it. If you have any suggestions or solutions to my problem, please let me know! Thanks!

Do you have an SD-Card?
I find the best way to do an RUU is using the SD-Card. Very safe, as power could turn off or something.
EDIT: I see in the video you tried that.
Sorry. :-/
more RUU's to try?

I have already tried the android 6.0 RUU. I can't try the 5.0.1 RUU because I don't have S-Off and I am already on the 6.0 firmware and can't downgrade.

Its okay. I am talking to someone right now who should be able to help me with javacard or something near to it so I can at least get s-off.

Hey did you find a solution? I have pretty much the same problem (Except, I do have S-OFF, but I relocked my bootloader so I still can't flash a custom recovery...)

You can. I have posted ruu mode custom firmware zips that have twrp included just for this scenario. Then you can unlock the bootloader. Your scenario is not at all the same as the above.

[Q] Phone won't boot up normally and cannot flash RUU

Hi,
First of all, sorry if this has already been answered somewhere else but I literally spent the last 3 days gathering information on xda reading threads more of less related to my specific problem. I would appreciate any new piece of information that I could have missed.
I had a custom ROM (ARHD 7.1). I wanted to go back to stock ROM for my provider (Bell Mobility). I successfully went back to GB 2.3.4 by flashing my provider's RUU. My phone would not take OTA update to ICS (4.0.3). I changed my SuperCID back to carrier-specific and phone took OTA update. However, it didn't reboot properly. I thought that this was because I was S-OFF and unlocked. I changed to S-ON but that bricked the phone (not even powering on). I found a tool to unbrick the phone that flashes a proper HBOOT (1.17 in my case). That fixed the brick problem and I could get back to bootloader. Since then, I'm stucked with a phone that doesn't boot into the ROM and cannot get into recovery. I can get into bootloader but given that I am S-ON, I'm very limited to what I can do.
I have tried re-flashing my 1.45.666.1 RUU but it looks like some time ago (don't ask me why...), I changed my MID to PG5810000 and the RUU is expecting PG5811000 so it is not possible to use RUU. I even tried modifying the android-info.txt with my MID but then RUU failed for another reason (bad signature I think).
So, this is very confusing but if I could summarize, I would say
*Cannot boot into stock ROM (it should be GB 2.3.4 from Bell Mobility)
*Can boot in bootloader
*S-ON
*MID=PG581000 (should be PG5811000 according to my provider Bell Mobility)
*CID=BM____001 (it is the correct one for Bell Mobility)

Is there any thing I can do to recover? Getting S-OFF would help of course but I cannot use Revolutionary tool normally as it requires you to boot in your ROM. Maybe there are some backdoor commands that Revolutionary uses that I can call with fastboot?
My last resort is to contact HTC or Bell but I'd like to avoid this as I am out of the warranty period, which my messing around would have voided anyway. Thanks for your help.

you sure the RUU you are using is correct ?
if so then best solution is to try revolutionary
try the tool with phone connected in fastboot ...it might work (i remember one guy doing that )

Thanks ganeshp for the quick answer. I am pretty confident about the RUU as it is the same one I originally ran to move from custom ICS ROM to stock 2.3.4 ROM.
For Revolutionary, even in fastboot, it is stuck in "Waiting for devices..." I think it is because it issues "adb devices" command and expects some answer before carrying on to the bootloader. I would need it to skip this step. Are there any argument to revolutionary to do that?

A little more update on RUU failure. If I change the modelid in android-info.txt, this means that I have to re-package the files back into ROM.zip. I am doing this with WinZip. Even without editing any file, just extracting the files from original ROM.zip from RUU back to another version of ROM.zip (no change), I noticed that file size is not the same. Maybe that explain with the signature check fails when flashing RUU. Now, I don't know what to use to re-package files into a ROM.zip archive to use RUU.

Short answer - you cannot touch or do anything to ROM.zip if you want to use RUU, changing anything changes MD5 sum hence the signature error.
What you should do is run an ICS RUU compatible with your MID

Thanks Jonny, that is good information. My problem with this is that I have a provider-specific CID (BM_0001) and not superCID. If I can find an ICS RUU for my MID (the one wrongly change for my device, i.e. PG5810000), would the CID affect anything?

Mate MID/CID are checked prior to flashing rom, so if the MID/CID are not "correct" installation will not take place

Thanks everyone for taking some of your time to help me. From the information that I've received, it looks that I will not be able to recover my phone, That's bad because I thought I was just a few steps away, maybe by being able to flash an unlocked S-OFF H-Boot 1.17 and by some way tweak RUU so that it would work. I'll wait one or two days in case someone suggests something different and then see if HTC can help. It will be interesting (or embarassing) to hear what they have to say.
Cheers,
Fred

ganeshp,
Without modifying android-info.txt (just running the RUU_Pyramid_BM_1.45.666.5_Radio_10.56.9035.00U_10.14.9035.01_M_release_220007_signed.exe), I am getting "ERROR [130]: MODEL ID ERROR. This is expected as my MID (modelID is incorrect. My phone is at PG5810000 when RUU expects PG5811000).
When I modify the android-info.txt in ROM.zip to have my correct MID, it goes a little bit further down the process. However, I am getting "ERROR [132]: SIGNATURE ERROR". Below is the related content of ruu_log.txt:
<T084503><DEBUG><CMD>fastboot -s SH16KV601188 flash zip "C:\Documents and Settings\fred\Local Settings\Temp\{A20F8D10-D7EB-4B01-91D2-68167E319F81}\{50F2F878-636A-496F-A7CB-544C067E0C4B}\rom.zip"</CMD>

<T084722><DEBUG><OUT>FAILED (remote: 12 signature verify fail)</OUT>

This is also expected as someone already pointed out earlier in this thread that ROM.zip cannot be modified because of different MD5 checksum. On this point, I am wondering if there would be some tool to re-generate a correct MD5 checksum.

That was my original attempt but it looks like revolutionary expects the phone to be fully booted so it can set it himself in bootloader/fastboot through adb command. Since I can get into fastboot myself, If I could skip that part from revolutionary and have it do the next steps, I think I'd get a successful S-OFF. Any idea on how to do that?
Fred
wait if revolutionary wants a working adb then we will give it an adb
do this
get the recovery.img from this link (extract it)
copy it to fastboot
and try this command
fastboot boot recovery.img
if it booted ..then run revolutionary

[Q] [Help] [Solved] One X Stuck at Fastboot, Out of Ideas, Failed RUU

Hello, after looking into my problem all night (it is 4 a.m. now) I still cannot get my One X out of its issue.
Background to this story:
Bought this phone from a friend who had TWRP2 as the recovery, unlocked, s-on, supercid. I wanted to upgrade to a newer ROM, specifically Carbon on Jellybean 4.2.2, and I needed to update hboot to accept the newer ROM. Follow the procedures of multiple threads and they all lead me down the same path of re-locking your bootloader and let the install do the rest. However, the installer has failed multiple times (error codes 140 and 158) and I am now stuck and have no idea where to go next.
The current status of the One X is not to great. It now has a relocked bootloader, HBOOT version of 2.14.0000, A broken recovery, what seems to be a mismatched baseband, Stuck at FASTBOOT USB, no ADB, will not boot into a ROM, RUU will not complete its job (fails at sending ROM), and I am all out energy and grammar.
*Trying to re-unlock the bootloader via HTCdev will NOT unlock it.
I am stuck, (yea I am a noob). If you need anymore info, just ask.
I'm not entirely sure, but I think you should try and flash the stock recovery and then RUU. I couldn't find the stock recovery in RedPoint's compilation roll-up thread, but I found it on a youtube video when I searched "att one x stock recovery". After you get the stock recovery installed I believe you should be able to then RUU.
Flashing the stock recovery only really applies when you're trying to take an OTA, it isn't required for an RUU.

whoooops just kidding then. might worth a shot to give it a try though? I was just tossing out ideas.

Alright, gonna need to fix it later. (Recovery still broken, I assume because of the failed RUU)
Which RUU are you trying to run?
Is this the AT&T version of the One X?
Be aware that running any Jellybean RUU (3.18, 3.17) with S-on and SuperCID will brick the phone. So if you were trying to run a JB RUU, it might actually be a good thing it didn't install.
If you were trying to run an older RUU (2.20, etc.) then it will fail since the hboot version is older (hboot 2.14 goes with 3.1x).
Do you still have a TWRP nandroid available (if not, whey the heck not?!?!). Have you tried to flash TWRP again using fastboot? If that works you can try to get your nandroid restored. With S-on, be aware that you will need to flash the boot.img for that ROM separately using fastboot.

As already pointed out by timmaaa, this is incorrect. RUU installs stock recovery on its own, and stock recovery is therefore not needed for an RUU (only an OTA).

---------- Post added at 09:21 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:20 AM ----------
As already pointed out by timmaaa, this is incorrect. RUU installs stock recovery on its own, and stock recovery is therefore not needed for an RUU (only an OTA).

Yes, this is the AT&T version.
I was trying to do an RUU with RUU_Evita_UL_Cingular_US-1.73.502.2_2FE6772699D8596307CC997452BB8D25.
Anytype of backup was made on the phone with TWRP, if TWRP still exists on the phone, it should be there.
I have not tried flashing TWRP back. I can try that next, can you point me in the right direction? Which version of TWRP do you recommend? (I am a noob)
"With S-on, be aware that you will need to flash the boot.img for that ROM separately using fastboot." I am not aware of this, (again, noob) do I just extract the boot.img from the zip and use 'fastboot flash boot boot.img' ?
It looks like the problem is that you're trying to run an RUU that is older than your current firmware version. So, you would need to use a later RUU. But, like Redpoint said, if you are s-on and SuperCID this will brick your device. Maybe what you should try first is flashing TWRP recovery again and seeing if you can restore a backup or even just flash another ROM.
Download TWRP 2.6 from here. Put the file in your fastboot folder. Connect phone in fastboot mode, open command prompt from within fastboot folder, issue the following commands:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery "filename.img"
(the exact filename, minus the talking marks)
Code:
fastboot erase cache
Code:
fastboot reboot-bootloader
Now you can enter recovery on your phone and see if you can restore a backup. You are s-on so you will need to flash the boot.img from the ROM that's backed up after restoring it. If you didn't backup the boot partition you might be out of luck.
If this is the case, download a ROM (and gapps if it's an aosp ROM), extract the boot.img from the ROM zip and place it in your fastboot folder on your PC, copy the ROM zip (and gapps if applicable) to your phone, flash ROM zip (and gapps if applicable) in TWRP, reboot to bootloader, connect to pc, give this command:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Reboot your phone and hopefully it will boot.

This is why you are getting errors 140 and 158. As timmaaa mentioned, you can't run an older RUU than the hboot that is already on your phone. The RUU you stated is very old, the 1.73 firmware with 1.09 hboot that came out at the phone's release. You are on hboot 2.14, so once the RUU sees that your hboot version is greater than that of the RUU (1.09), it fails.
Thye 3.18 RUU (which comes with hboot 2.14) would be what you want. BUT as already mentioned, you should not run this with S-on and SuperCID, as there is a bug with the Jellybean RUUs where this combo will brick the phone (not fixable without JTAG or new motherboard).
Follow timmaaa's steps in the previous post.

You might be in a catch-22 here then. As you know, you can't install custom recovery with a relocked bootloader (and S-on). You can keep trying to unlock it, but I'm not sure if that can be done if the phone can't boot.

Yeah, normally RUU would be the answer. But the RUU bricking bug mentioned is stopping you from going that route.
Keep trying to unlock the bootloader. If you were able to relock in the current condition, maybe you can unlock. Unlocking is quirky and will fail, then will succeed after multiple attempts. So just the fact it hasn't worked yet, doesn't necessarily mean it won't.

I am currently not home to interface with the device physically (RDP). I should be returning around 4PM EST.
The superCID was written by the previous owner. Writing a generic CID (like HTC_001) is not an option with s-on, is it?
*Are there any RUUs that won't brick when flashing?
<Sorry for the double post but this post is different then my last>
Interesting thing, I can still write the recovery image even though fastboot claims it is 'relocked'. Here is the command line output.
sending 'recovery' (8028 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.993s]
writing 'recovery'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)
finished. total time: 1.720s
The signature checking failed, but it still accepted the image. Not sure if this means anything.
You could try hex editing your CID back to its original CID, but it must be the original CID to match the CID that the RUU is looking for, not just any CID. In order for this to work your would need to have adb fully working though. Please note the method I linked to above is to gain SuperCID, but the principle is the same, you just want to change 11111111 back to CWS__001 for an at&t phone.
The only RUUs that won't brick are the lower ones, which you can't run because you're s-on.

Fastboot claims it wrote the recovery image, it just failed the signature check, unless it reverted, should it still be there?

[Q] Update hboot from 2.13 to 2.15/2.16 (SOLVED)

UPDATE 30/11/2013:
This thread describes my efforts in updating my unlocked One S to a hboot higher than 2.13. The phone had an H3G CID but non of the RUU's (see thread) worked. For me the solution was to Super CID and S-OFF the phone. Iḿ now on hboot 2.16.
END UPDATE
After more than two years of using Android (Legend, Desire S) phones and rooting them, I now have to register to be able to ask a question on this great forum.
Yesterday I obtained a One S. It is a UK model (not sim-locked to a carrier). I unlocked the bootloader almost immediatly with the intention of running a 4.3 or 4.4 based ROM (cyanogenmod or codename lungo). Here are some of the getvar details:
Code:
version: 0.5
version-bootloader: 2.13.0000
version-baseband: 1.11.50.05.28
version-misc: PVT SHIP S-ON
cidnum: H3G__001
boot-mode: FASTBOOT
Both cyanogen 4.4 and lungo ended in a bootloop and I figured it had to do with the hboot version. Self assured as I was I did not do a nandroid backup in twrp when flashing cyanogen and lungo and I ended up looking for a rom that would boot. I was succesful with MagioRom_ONE_S_RC6. From that I intended to use a RUU to update my hboot. I tried several (including both the H3G's) from this resource. All ended up in errors (131, 132, 155, 170 and probably some more). After reading some threads I relocked the bootloader and flashed stock recovery. All to no avail, no RUU will install. After reading a bit more I concluded that SuperCID was my best option of getting my brand new One S to a higher hboot version. I decided to go with this tutorial, but I ended up in another frustration: adb is not working for me in both windows (7) and linux (ubuntu). I reinstall the drivers (under windows) and tried some other things, but nothing works.
This is where I am now. I hope someone is willing to help. I tried to be as complete in describing the things I tried and the information I have, but I'd be happy to provide any additional info.
Getting custom roms on the legend and desire s was a lot easier.
First I do not own a UK version One S, I have the TMOUS but these are some tips that I used to help get my phone back from a non booting state.
Couple things,
Make absolutely sure this is a Ville not a VilleC2 (aka S3 One S)
Are you at all able to boot the phone to a recovery program (TWRP/CWM etc)?
Ensure that you have followed these instructions to get adb and fastboot to work. Use the Unlock section. Its best to make sure you can fastboot or at least adb before doing anything with the phone.
If you can get to fastboot (Power and Vol Down button), connect your phone and run the command "fastboot devices" post output - keep in mind command shell has to be at the adb directory most of the time C:\adb or something similar.
Make sure you have the latest driver installed and to remove (completely uninstall it) HTC Sync or Sync Manager. Not needed if you don't keep the stock ROM on your phone IMO. If you are unsure, remove all HTC software and just reinstall the driver.
Make sure you are running the right RUU for your specific device. What carrier was this phone for when it was purchased? Assuming it is H3G this is the latest RUU available for that particular OneS. You will have to run either the same version F/W or later RUU, you cannot go backwards.
Once we get the phone back to stock rom. Then start over by unlocking bootloader and getting S-OFF THEN start to flash roms.
In order to run CM11 Beta you need to have l a certain recovery installed + a few other things. I think it would be best if you can get back on CM10.1.3 Stable first then attempt to go to CM11.
TL;DR
Verify carrier and version of phone
Lock Bootloader if not already done
Download and run carrier specific RUU while in fastboot mode (power +vol down)
Unlock Bootloader
S-OFF
Flash rom
@pyrocide
Thanks for the reply. I've been working through your post. First I wanna point out that the phone is in a working state know running the MagioRom and I can boot into TWRP recovery.
Here is the output for fastboot devices:
Code:
SH24PW402945 fastboot
I'm sure it is an s4. It is says Z520e and 1.5 ghz on the box. I got the phone from ebay, so I'm not 100% which carrier it was on, but there was a T-Mobile sim still in the phone :silly:. The CID reads H3G though and the phone is not locked to a carrier/network since my giffgaff sim works fine.
I got adb to work. Thanks for that :good:.
I relocked the bootloader with fastboot oem lock (it know says 'relocked'). Running the suggested RUU ends in an error 155 during the veryfiying signature step.
And you ran the RUU while you were in fastboot usb mode?
based on Google
"ERROR [155~159]: IMAGE ERROR
One of these error messages will appear when you use the incorrect RUU to update and the image file size is larger than the Flash ROM size. In this case, download the correct RUU version and try again."
So the RUU is wrong, we need to find out specifically what version of OneS it is.
run this command while in fasboot usb mode
Code:
fastboot getvar all
post modelid: XXXXXXXXXX
The output of that:
Code:
modelid: PJ4010000
http://androidforums.appforerunner....ed-problem-restoring-ruu-error-131-151-a.html
Guy had the same problem and same modelid
Used this RUU and was able to go back to stock.
Hopefully this works.
Thanks for the help. Appreciate it.
That RUU ended in an 131 error, unfortunately.

At this point i would suggest doing all Euro RUUs. That should have worked considering the modelid is the same for that guy and it worked. Sorry man but I don't know what else to suggest other than to do each RUU. If none of them work then something is definitely wrong.

No, running the RUU erases custom recovery & flashes stock recovery.
Did all of the downloads MD5 checkout correctly?
Also, just to make sure we are ruling everything out. Did you run the RUU by double clicking or right clicking and Run as Administrator? If you just did it by double clicking rerun the one I posted that fixed the other guys issue by using Run as Administrator. Again be sure to be in fastboot usb mode and that "fastboot devices" command shows your device in the output. Make sure you use a usb 2.0 port in case of compatibility issues and the cable that came with the phone if possible.

Did some digging.
Error 155 - usually wrong recovery.img /wrong boot.img
Error 140 - wrong bootloader / bootloader unlocked
Error 131 - wrong RUU for your device
So, if one is giving you the 155 error then try with the stock recovery and do the RUU.
The phone does say relocked in bootloader right? Try doing fastboot oem lock again and run the RUU that gave you the 155 error.
Wow, that still didn't work.
So I flashed stock recovery and relocked the bootloader. Then I tried three RUU's, both the H3G RUU's and the HTC Europe RUU mentoined before. The H3G's ended up in a 155 error, the HTC Europe in a 131.
So, still no succes. This is getting annoying, right... ? Any other suggestions besides flushing the One S down the toilet?
Regards.

Just a thought. Since the 155 error could point to both a wrong recovery.img or a wrong boot.img, I could try flashing another (stock) boot.img. Maybe the custom rom's boot.img is in the way. So what boot.img would I need?
So I did that. I extracted the boot.img from de H3G RUU and flashed it. I also extracted the recovery and flashed that. I then tried different scenario's with the H3G, the HTC Europe and the O2 UK RUU's. Non worked. The H3G ended up in 155, the others in 131.
Anyone else any ideas on this besides emailing HTC?

You could try to decompile the 155 error exe and fastboot flash boot boot.img but I am very nervous that might screw something up. I still suggest contacting HTC directly to have their input on what exactly RUU is needed and if you do have the right one, why it is not working.
Code:
<T133845><DEBUG><OUT>FAILED (remote: 44 hboot version check fail)</OUT>
Got the line above out the RUU log files. This is the 155 error RUU.
This raises two question:
Is it possible to get the expected hboot version number out the decompiled RUU (decompiled = the stuff placed in user/temp)?
Is it possible to down/upgrade hboot with any of the hboot versions posted here or would I run the risk of softbricking my One S then?
Don't flash any of that hboots. You will brick.
Just try to s-off, follow facepalm method in dev forum.
After that you can flash any ruu.

rejects going to stock !

ok here's the thing..
i lost my backup for the stock rom which came with my HTC One XL,and i've been facing alot of issues with custom roms ,the major thing was the capacitive buttons stopped working without a reason !
now being S-ON,unable to go back to stock except with RUU's with the matching CID,,ok so i tried searching for the right RUU with matching CID which is J15 and the only one i found on androidRUU website didnt work for me as its a different hboot version (not sure if that's why it refused or not but thats what i understood from reading in the forums)
so i spent hours and hours trying to find the correct RUU with matching CID and hboot version but was invain,,
another option searching for NANDROID,,still didnt find any matching results
tried getting SuperCID to make it easier to find a matching RUU,,but i found in order to get SuperCID i need to be S-OFF,,and in order to get S-OFF i need to get SuperCID first...its a bit frustrating i know
also another weird thing that when i tried to relock the bootloader,it says "FAILED (status read failed (Too many links))"
so any help on how to either :
1.Full stock restore either with a matching RUU or NANDROID
2.Getting a full stock rom with the latest firmware update so that hopefully the capacitive buttons work again..
would be really appreciated

ok here's the thing..
i lost my backup for the stock rom which came with my HTC One XL,and i've been facing alot of issues with custom roms ,the major thing was the capacitive buttons stopped working without a reason !
now being S-ON,unable to go back to stock except with RUU's with the matching CID,,ok so i tried searching for the right RUU with matching CID which is J15 and the only one i found on androidRUU website didnt work for me as its a different hboot version (not sure if that's why it refused or not but thats what i understood from reading in the forums)

Long story short, there is no RUU for your CID. But there is a thread in our General Section that contains stock backups for your device.
I'll also just clear up some confusion you seem to have about s-off and SuperCID. There are two s-off methods for the Evita, Facepalm and Rumrunner. Facepalm requires SuperCID to work, Rumrunner does not require SuperCID to work. If you don't have SuperCID and want it you can use the Rumrunner s-off method to get s-off and then change your CID using a fastboot command.
Either way, don't use any of the RUUs that match other CIDs, they'll most likely brick your phone. Just find the thread in General and you'll be able to download a nandroid backup.

and concerning that backup you're talking about,,does it have to be matching my CID or any of my details ? or just any backup is fine ?
The backup I'm talking about is specifically for the middle eastern variant of this phone.

thx for the help,,ok so currently i found the needed NANDROID,,made the restore and am back to stock android 4.1.1 with relocked bootloader and stock recovery flashed,,i tried searching for software updates and it says no updates found when my neighbor got the same device and he recieved an update for 4.2.2 ??
however am not quite sure if the stock recovery flashed successfully or not ,,in the fastboot it said that the flashing was successful but when i tried to access the recovery from the boot it just went blank screen ,,is that ok and am not supposed to enter the stock recovery but then why it doesnt make the update ? or there's something wrong with the recovery i got ?
You should be able to enter the stock recovery, I believe there's something wrong with the recovery you flashed.

ok i found the recovery ,flashed it and able to access the recovery nw,,but in order to do so i had to unlock the bootloader again other wise it will just keep on booting into the bootmode which is kinda wierd...
anyway you got any ideas why am unable to receive the OTA ?
I'm not sure why you're not receiving it, sorry. If you can find the OTA you can install it manually.

surprisingly i just got an update for the "people" app through searching for software updates (not through playstore)...does that mean that my OTA is working fine and its just a delay or something like that for the full software,,or this app update has nothing to do with the OTA's ?
The people app itself is separate from the OTA.

Could I ask where you got that stock Rom and for a link as well. With a bit of help from lag I managed to factory reset and lose my backup just before I was going to get in on my pc, imagine my excitement. So this would be greatly appreciated.
Thank You

Just have a look in our Android Development section, you'll find it in there, along with some great custom ROMs you might want to try.

Did you factory reset in hboot and corrupt the SD? Because a factory reset in recovery or in the OS should not wipe the SD (including nandroids).

What are your bootloader details? I might be able to diagnose why you were having problems before the factory reset.

Well I know it is the S-On as I saw even though I was doing all according to the instructions I could find. I had Unlock, SU CID, just could not get that S-OFF. I tried it manually, via the toolkits people have out there, using a 2.0 USB cable. But without the S-OFF I did not get the firmware installed so that was my source of headache with that I just had a bit of lag in the bootloader screen and i click one to many times past recovery and viola up the crick without a canoe lol
Once you have a ROM installed, forget the toolkits and get s-off manually, it's really easy. There are two methods you can try:
Facepalm S-off
Rumrunner S-off

So going the route of Palm as I can not get adb to connect but I can fastboot USB, The first attempt ends with FAILED remote:92 supercid! please flush image again immediately. The second attempt ends in FAILED remote:99 unknow fail
You're gonna need to get adb working, both methods require it. I'm in a good mood so I'm gonna give you the solution to the error 99 problem, but please in future search properly before posting, the solution to that problem has been posted dozens of times in the Facepalm thread.
When you get error 99 after flashing the zip, you need to force a reboot to the bootloader and start the process again and you should get error 92 again.
Why isn't adb working? What ROM are you on? Have you updated your drivers? Do you have usb debugging turned on in Developer Options?

Feeling dumb with this phone

.
Hi ppl!
So, I had a working HTC One S (s4) with Bootloader Unlocked, Root, Stock rom and Custom Recovery all done many years ago. I picked it up because I want to give it to someone in my family and I decided to see how it runs Lineage OS. So I found a LOS Rom, copied it and tried to install it via the latest TWRP. I wiped all, changed Data partition to F2FS and tried to install. But it said I needed Hboot 2.16 and it only has 2.15.
So then I found out to update the Hboot I need S-Off. And apparently every method needs a working Rom which I dont have right now. So I tried to find an old CM rom that runs on Hboot 2.15 but I just cannot install it. I'm just too used to how easy is to modify the Moto X so I was overconfident with the One S. And I cannot remember any of the stuff I did with it to achieve a rooted Stock Rom.
Can someone lend me a hand please?
So I have no idea what's wrong with the phone, but I tried to install CM11 and CM12 which supposedly are hboot 2.15 compatible according to their OPs and yet when restarting I just get a blackscreen after the boot image and nothing happens. What I did wrong?
With S-ON you need to flash the boot.img via fastboot after flashing a rom via TWRP or the phone won't boot.
I got S-OFF with Viper 2.x and Facepalm. Alternatively, you can try CM11 and Rumrunner. Or you get back to stock via a RUU* and root the stock rom with TWRP and SuperSU (not sure which versions are compatible with the old android 4.1). After that you should be able to use Sunshine (costs 25 bucks).
* Check your firmware version with fastboot getvar all (either "version-main" or "main version") and find a RUU with the same version.

Wow, many thanks! Such an easy thing I didnt see posted in all the forums I scourged. Now the phone finally boots.
Btw, I got version-main 3.16.401.10, and I found a RUU for 3.16.401.8 I guess it's ok to use?
You'll need to try. If it was a One M9 then I'd say yes it'll work. However, the One S is so much older and it's been ages since mine was S-ON so I'm not completely sure.
Edit: There won't happen anything bad if it's not the correct RUU. It'll just abort the process before it really starts flashing.
Edit2: I found the needed RUU on AFH. I've been working together with Krocko, in the past. Therefore, I know that he's a reliable source. Boot the phone to fastboot USB mode and flash the file with
Code:
fastboot flash zip PJ40IMG_Ville_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.16.401.10_Radio_1.11.50.05.28_10.27.50.08L_release_368741_signed.zip
Check the file's MD5 checksum before you flash so that you can rest assured that it didn't get damaged during the download. The desired value is mentioned on the download page.
Edit3: You'll need to use that command twice. The first try will probably end with error 90 or something like that.

Darn, I can't thank you enough for all the support!
So indeed it failed, but not the Error 9X, rather "FAILED (remote: not allowed)" Google say such error results when the Bootloader is locked but mine is unlocked. And the MD5 is ok.
Code:
writing 'zip'...
(bootloader) adopting the signature contained in this image...
(bootloader) signature checking...
(bootloader) rom parsing start ...
(bootloader) rom parsing finish ...
FAILED (remote: not allowed)
My bootloader says the following info:
**TAMPERED** (TWRP 3.1)
**UNLOCKED**
VLE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.15.000
OpenDSP-v31.1.0.45.0815

I'm on Windows 10 and the phone is recognized no problem.
So, I'm lost...
EDIT: And CID = HTC__001
Ah, now that you mention it: On the One S the bootloader needs to be locked or relocked for flashing RUUs if the phone is S-ON. My bad. Sorry.
Code:
fastboot oem lock
In addition, flashing RUUs via fastboot (that's what the *.exe versions do, as well) can be a bit tricky and since the One S has no micro SD card slot there's no alternative method...
I don't have a link with instructions at hand that are specific for the One S but I can link you some troubleshooting tips that I posted in the One M9 forum. They're universal and should theoretically be able to help you (if one of the mentioned problems actually is your issue).

Ahhh that explains. Thanks!
One question before I do that though, to unlock it again, do I need the unlock bin file from HTC again?
Sent from my XT1095 using Tapatalk
Yeah, but you'll probably need a new one. At least I had to request a new one whenever I flashed a RUU on my One S.

Perfect, I'll do that then, a thousand thanks for all your help!
