Hi, wonderful xda community. I have a family member currently traveling to South East Asia and I had gifted then a Verizon note 5 as I was under the jmpressiom the phone was unlocked. They used it on T Mobile within the states and everything worked great, but on thr trip they are unable to access 4g or any data. Phone and texts are working fine. When they get into apn, the default Verizon apn setting is gryeed out and upon adding a new apn setting and pressing save does not store the settings. What can be done? As they are traveling, I need an urgent recommendation. Thanks in advance.
Are they using a Verizon sim? I can't change the apn on my Verizon sim, but when I was in London I had to manually add the apn to the new sim I was using

No not a Verizon Sim. A local Sim of the country they are in.
Sorry, I reread the post, mine acted the same way, only it kept the new apn, Verizon Samsung's are unlocked from the store now adays, I'll look for my other sim and play around, in the mean time try. Also, probably won't do anything but have them do a system cache wipe (hold volume up and home while the phone is booting) and should be self explanatory after that

any other advice on this?

Hello, I bought an unlocked version of the sensation originally from bell to use on AT&T. I had an iPhone 4 which had a mini sim and went to AT&T to switch it out, they gave me a normal sim but the data didn't work. I went there today to ask them about it and they tried to manually put in the APN settings, but had no luck. Does anyone know what the problem may be? Thanks in advance.
Do you guys think this is AT&T's problem? Could it be a problem with the sim change because I got text on the new phone saying"thank you for upgrading your phone" could it have taken away the data?
Just call them and check. You should be able to add the unlimited non smartphone data for $15 and still get the same 3g speeds. Tell them you switched to a dumb phone and give the sensation imei if they ask. Their system won't be able to recognize that you are using a smartphone.
If you need apn settings let me know, the default wap.cingular should work fine.

Just wanted to give you a heads up on my experience today based on the N5 and AT&T. I walked in and told them what phone i was waiting for and they pretty much set me up in 5 mins with a sim and a plan. They said when i get the phone i should be able to put the sim in and it will activate. He did say that i may have to come in to have the APN fixed if im not seeing the correct speeds. It was a lot easier then i expected, but if your interested in using the N5 with at&t just go in and they can have everything set up for you for the arrival of your N5. As of right now, I'm on their mobile share plan, But i can easily switch to prepaid if i want. I don't don't trust prepaid when it comes to speeds and coverage.
idk about prepaid but hopefully i will just take mine out of my One and throw it in the N5
Just a heads up, you will not have to go in to AT&T to have them make APN changes. You can find all of the different APN settings for AT&T here on XDA on many different threads. That being said, I have the HTC One Google Edition and did not have to change the APN settings at all when I stuck in my sim. I had LTE immediately.
If you do need to change the APN settings they are really easy to do in the settings of the phone, but hopefully the phone will read your sim and know automatically which APN to use.

Where can I find these apn settings? How would I know if I need to apply these settings?

Here is a post that has them: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26821716
To get there you go to Settings>More>Mobile networks>Access Point Names > the either select the AT&T PTA from the list or hit the plus button to add the APN settings in this post.
I will take a screen shot in a minute and post it, I have to switch my AT&T Sim card back into my phone to do it (I am using a TMobile sim for a while to see the differences).
Here is a screen shot of the APN selection screen and then the settings held within the PTA APN (which is the LTE APN for AT&T). Just a note this is 4.3 but I am sure it will be very similar on 4.4. Good luck. Mine won't be here until the 7th, after that I will know for sure if it has the pre-programmed APN's.

This phone will not be coming to at&t with a contract correct? Or will it be coming later on, because I know T-mobile said is going to have it in the "coming weeks."
Wow. This sucks doing this from the mobile app! Last try.

I would not expect to see this on AT&T at all. The nexus 4 never made it there, but it was at T-Mobile. That does not mean that it will not work on AT&T though. I have been using nexus phones on AT&T's network since the Nexus One without any problem. You do have to make sure you have an LTE enabled plan to get LTE however. You should be able to do that online.
I too have an HTC One on AT&T. I converted it to a GPe though and receive OTAs. That said, I never had to change APNs either with that device. My N5 should be here before the 7th and I can tell everyone if it's a simple sim swap or changing of APNs

Yeah, I have the mobile share plan w/ 4GB and unlimited talk/txt. So LTE should be enabled.

Sim swap worked fine coming from HTC One.
Service is much better up the street but clearly it works, no APN changes.

Thanks for posting the screencaps. Does the APN have to be this ATT PTA? Because I see ATT Phone is a choice and that is the APN I use on my HTC One with Google Play Edition rom flashed, and I have an ATT LTE sim which works fine, I get normal LTE speeds.

I think both work for LTE now. I just checked and seem to come up with the same results with LTE speeds. Something else you might want to check is if MMS works on both APN's. Sometimes this is another area that gets messed up when switching APN's.
I didn't have any problems switching my sim from my S3. Though AT&T still seems to think I have an HTC One X+.

That's because AT&T only has your One X+ IMEI on file with your account

Currently I have a Unlimited iPhone data plan with AT&T. I wanted to test an android phone and purchased a Nexus 5 unlocked. I just added the WAP. And settings and the phone works okay with LTE. I wanted a bigger phone a purchased a galaxy Note III intetwnional version unlocked but when I popped the SIM in the note Data does not seem to work. I tried the WAP Apr setting and the AT&T phone App setting and still nothing.
PS. I have a Solavei Sim which I used to also test the 3 phones and data was working with all 3

Maybe you'll need to contact AT&T because maybe you used your SIM with tooo many different phones/IMEI numbers

thanks I will try that, I'm even scare about contacting them since they have taken the UNLIMITED data twice from me. I don't think that theyfor any chance give it back to me for a third time. But I can try to purchase a new SIM and try.
I bought a house and moved.
No service in the house with Verizon.
So, I switched to AT&T.
AT&T told me I would get HSPA+ with my Verizon S3.
Well... I have 2G, voice, and text.
Anyone have an idea of how to get HSPA+ enabled? Is it possible?
I have a custom ROM, but I can flash anything if it would help.
I don't think it's possible, they run on completely different networks (CDMA Vs GSM) and the phones radios are built accordingly.

I'm leaning toward that. Guess I'll upgrade....
Verizon to AT&T and SIM unlock with NO codes

There is a way cant remember where i read it, maybe on the t-mobile forum. I recently bricked my att device and came across a verizon variant and was able to use it for att with out having it sim unlocked just a few hours ago steps taken were as follows:
After swapping the motherboards i factory reset the non rooted verizon device from the settings menu as I was just going to sell it on ebay. I had been using wifi only on a sim locked t-mobile device but the camera was not working so i switched back to the verizon and was prompted to complete the set up after i booted the device with no sim card inside. I got the no sim card message and ran the app Region Lock Away that has a red circle icon and a black unlocked pad lock by chainfire. I was skeptical 1 for the device not being rooted but tried anyway. The app said it was not able to verfiy root and closed; however once I inserted my att sim card without powering off the device i saw signal bars. Now Im not sure the app actually did anything and I might have tried the app before resetting it without success but after checking the network mode in the mobile networks tab it now shows Global as the preferred network. So i started texting people and then calling all with success. Now im still on the edge network and this may not solve your issue but I remember seeing the work around I think it has to do with correcting the APN settings but there is always a way to get things done. Keep looking you will find it. Im just happy to have cell service again but Ill be looking for the thread in a day or so as well.
Forced into an AT&T phone. It worked for 4 days then stopped. Their tech support claims the tap wasn't compatible and they don't know why it worked
I had 2g for those 4 days
I'm always on wifi but noticed my data wasn't working so not an ideal switch but if you are in a bind it does work. I'm still running at&t network on this Verizon motherboard just fine

I don't know what happened but all inbound calls on day 4 went direct to voicemail. I reset phone, flashed different ROM.... Nothing
I apologize if this is in the wrong forum. I'm trying to help a friend out by doing a little research.
A friend's daughter has a Note 5 on Verizon. (Long story short, friend's ex husband is supposed to pay for daughter's cell phone as part of divorce agreement. He did for a few months and then skipped town. Phone was cut off.) My friend has a phone on Cricket, and was wondering if she could use the Note 5 on Cricket. The local rep tells her that she cannot, that the phones are incompatible with Cricket's network, but I'm wondering if it is just their way of trying to get her to buy a new phone.
It's not a big deal if the Internet part of the phone works (her daughter mostly uses wifi anyway), but the phone part needs to work.
I'm using a Verizon note 5 on cricket. You get 4g lte but I'm having issues with mms. Sometimes mms will work and other times it won't
Did you just put the Cricket SIM in and go, or was there anything else involved?
I put in the cricket sim card and enter the apn.
Cool. My friend is going to go to Cricket and get the SIM kit and I'll hafta punch in the APN data for her later...

No LTE icon on my Galaxy Note 5 screen using Cricket network. The phone is brand new and factory unlocked but no way to get the LTE power from Cricket.

I had the same issue. I do get 4G LtE in some areas but not all the time
Also, if you see the carrier it says ATT not Cricket...
UPDATE: My understanding is that ATT/Cricket works in a different LTE band than Verizon. So that might be the issue. Not sure if you can change that in a non-rooted phone.
Have anyone found a fix for the mms other than the Playstore text app fixes

Yes call cricket (dial 611) and they will set up the APN for you. I have the Sprint note 5 on cricket and all mms works. Thanks
Do you have to unlock the Sprint Note 5 or just put the sim card in
Anyone successfully get LTE working on cricket? My roommates S5 gets LTE, but I'm only getting H+ this sucks!

More than likely it's probably because Verizon's network is CDMA and Crickets network is GSM and they are incompatible with each other. You can check and see if you can switch the bands but I don't know if it's possible to do that on the Verizon phones since they're locked down so tight..

I actually got it working! This is for anyone that sees this. I entered cricket apn, then I was selecting global, and gsm. I figured those were the 2 that I needed, so I went back and forth between the 2, getting more frustrated! I finally decided screw it, and selected CDMA/LTE and low and behold!!!! The 4GLTE signal popped right up! So it is working, mms too. I'm stoked.
Edit, after further testing, calls will not work while in CDMA mode. Sucks, but I think it was too good to be true. So here's what I came up with.....toggle CDMA/LTE mode, wait for 4GLTE to pop up, once it comes on, toggle back to global mode. 4GLTE will stay enabled, until a call comes in. After your call, H+ will pop in, just toggle the CDMA/LTE, and back to global. This is the only way I've found to have constant LTE.
It seems that to enable the LTE bands, they must be enabled by toggling the CDMA on. Weird but it is what it is, especially with not having root.

You have a sprint note5 on cricket? I've been trying to switch mine now and I'm having so many issues with sprint saying my phone is unlocked but when I try to add it to cricket with their card it says that there is no connection so they tell me my phone is not unlocked, can you help me??
