Search the development forum for a guide to S-OFF, ROOT, SUPER CID.
You basically need to install a custom recovery and then install superuser. (Search the thread for superuser 3.0.7)
There is now also aparrently a way to unlock 1.27 hboot completely! (I haven't tested it personally but others have reported success!).
Hope this helps

[Q] how to root htc desire s with S-OFF

I had read many posts from here about rooting htc desire S S510e, but I haven't find answer for my question (nobody seems to have that spec like I do). Ok this is my spec about bootloader
***LOCKED***
SAGA PVT SHIP S-OFF RL
HBOOT - 2.00.0002
RADIO - 3822.10.08.04_M
eMMC - boot
HTC Sense version 3.0
If somebody can help me with this problem, please answer me or tell me where I can find solution for it. I need to be sure what to do about it. Somewhere I had read that I can do it without downgrade hboot.

Go to the Devs forum, read the stickies at the top and you will find the answers to all your questions.
Believe me when I tell you - you are much better off reading and understanding instead of just doing what one of us tells you to do.
hi
I've found that someone asks do I need to unlock bootloader first (when I have s-off) to root the phone but this guy tpbklake has told that he doesn't need to that, just to go on the next step http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1122694.
Can somebody who knows about it confirm that when I am S-OFF, I don't need to go to htc dev to unlock bootloader, just procede with next step install clockwork and then root the phone.
In other words You must be s-off (NOT BOOTLOADER UNLOCK) and you can install clockwork and root your phone?
IS THAT RIGHT, just that I need to know?

You are 100 correct, you should be able to install recovery and flash root

Newbie Here

Hello everyone,
I recently purchased an AT&T HTC One X and I want to unlock bootloader and eventually root the phone. After some reading and following a few tutorials I am stuck. I just want to clear a few things up. First i followed htc AIO toolkit tutorial to unlock my htc through htcdev but error came up. I read further and saw people mentioning that I need to have s-off to unlock bootloader. I am just a little confused and would appreciate if someone would guide me in the right direction as to what steps to take to accomplish me unlocking bootloader and rooting my phone and maybe in the future to flash some custom roms.

evita s-on
I do apologize if this has been asked before
You do not need s-off to unlock bootloader. Get supercid then unlock bootloader, then gain root, then optional but recommend gain s-off. For us to help you need to give the current firmware of your device. To do this, restart your phone and hold down the volume down button until you are in the bootloader screen. Give the info you see at the very top.
My phone info is as follows
Locked
Evita PVT SHIP S-ON RL
Hboot-2.14.0000
I'm assuming you have 3.18 with that stock hboot but double check in settings to be safe. If you are 3.18 just follow the steps on how to gain supercid/unlock/root for 3.18. You can go to the FAQs stickied here for getting you to the right direction.
yes my Software number is
3.18.502.6710RD
for 3.18 I first need to get supercid/unlock before I can root? Are those the steps I need to take?
Yes in that order
To be more specific, you need to use the 3.18 root method to get temp root which also gets you SuperCID. Just any SuperCID method won't work. Click the Everything Evita link in my signature, within that resource thread navigate to the root section and click on the 3.18 root method link and follow those instructions. Once that's done you can go to htcdev and unlock your bootloader, then install TWRP 2.6 recovery.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2727831 for RUU, that'll take you back to stock but not back to s-on or locked bootloader.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2699065 you can try this tool to relock the bootloader, you don't need to re s-on though. apparently it's very risky on the Verizon m8

You need to dump your pg1fs and pg2fs partitions, hex edit the data corresponding to the flags and flash them back to your phone. S-OFF required and wouldn't recommend to do it if you're not an advanced user, could easily brick your phone if you make an error.
