[Completed] best android version/distribution for my new hardware - XDA Assist

Hello Folks,
I'm not sure it is the best forum for my question but it is a start.
Well, I'm in charge of bring up Android on a new hard (actually old) it is a ARM 7 600 MHz with 256 MB RAM (possibly 512 MB RAM), 256 MB NAND, and 240x230 color screen.
It is not a phone. It is a device running a specific POS solution.
I would like to know a suitable Android version to use. Is it possible to run Android 6.0 and still have good/smooth user experience. I think Android 4.4 is my second option, If I have to downgrade to 2.3 I will be forced to upgrade my hardware.
What would be the best Android to port. Android OS? Cyanogen? Other mods? Which one? (I need security). Is there any license/legal issues using such distribution on my product ?
TIA,
Edgard

[Completed] New ROM for AMiD 9743G

Hi,
I have a 'no name' Tablet (Bauhn AMiD 9743G) running Android 4.1.2. It works well enough except for the constant 'Insufficient memory' warning messages. The device has 14GB of on board memory, but only 1 GB of this is allocated as RAM, so I have the situation of 1GB constantly filling up and 13GB unable to be used. I understand that this is a '4.1.2 thing'. I have not been able to find either 1) a way to change the memory allocation, or 2) a ROM that removes the memory allocation and is compatible with this device.
The device is now Rooted with Kingroot.
I would appreciate any advice and/or pointers from those with far superior Android knowledge.
Rob.
Anyone, please?

[Completed] ROM Porting : Which spec should match

Hi,
If there is no development on my android mobile, and I intend to try porting ROM of some other device, which all parameter should necessarily match : CPU, RAM, ROM, Screen Size, SIM, Camera, any other ??
I have a Huawei Honor Bee (Y541-U02) which runs on Spreadtrum SC7731 processor, has 1GB RAM and 4.5" screen. Although I can find several devices on same CPU and same RAM but with different screen size. Can I attempt porting their ROM ? Can it brick my device ?
