FAQ :
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 6 (Marshmallow)?
A: Yes, this is Android 6.0.1
Q: What code is Oct-M based on?
A: Starting with Oct-L, we've rebased OctOs on the CyanogenMod 12 code. Oct-M is based on CyanogenMod 13.
Q: What happened to AOSP?
A: All Android code is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Under previous releases, we tried very hard to limit the number of "Not from Google directly" repositories that we used. Unfortunately, issues with devices, the need for Code Aurora Foundation (CAF) repositories for Qualcomm devices, and compatibility issues meant fighting code more often than not. We decided that since the code-base for many repositories were the same across most ROMs, picking a starting point to build the user experience on outweighed the desire to craft code from scratch, or fix broken code to make it work with other changes we already had.
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature?
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But XYZ and all the others have..
A: ROM developers build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-M.
Q: Superuser or SuperSU?
A: Team OctOs uses SuperSU and is installed automatically.
Bugs:
Bugs happen. Our testers are very good at breaking things, but no where near as good as the rest of the Android public. In order to investigate and fix issues, we need the help of the users who are going to report them. The Android OS has many nifty features to help us in this, but only if we can engage the user to assist us.
Logs, Logcat, and the Android Debugging Bridge (ADB)
Like any other OS, Android has multiple log files that are generated and record the goings-on of the system. As a user, you have two basic ways to view and pull these to send to us. Without the information in the logfiles, there simply is not a whole lot of information to go on.
Log file APKs
Team OctOs recommends SysLog from the Android Market. This application will allow you to selectively pick any (or all) of the system logs, compress them into a .ZIP file, and allow you to save, email, move to your Copy/DropBox/Cloud Storage account, etc.
ADB Logcat
The Android Debugging Bridge (ADB) is a powerful tool available from Google as part of the Android Software Development Kit (SDK). Used for many things, being able to selectively see, in real-time, what your device is doing cannot be downplayed. While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.
Basic Instructions :
1. Download ROM .zip file and GApps.
2. Reboot to Recovery
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
3. Wipe system, cache, dalvik, and data.
4. Flash ROM and GApps .ZIP files.
5. Reboot.
Enjoy!

I want to use faux sound but its only possible with custom kernel .
I tried hurtsky valkryie L2 but it drains battery .
What would you suggest I should do after flashing OctOs in order to have faux sound and good battery performance together ?

Check the aosp and cm13/12 version thread

Very smooth! I'm testing the ROM, and I miss this features:
RAM usage in Aosp recents
Double Tap in Lockscreen to screen off
Powermenu tile in qs tiles (important)
Floating windows (important)
I also wanted to ask, the smoothness in this rom comes from kernel, just rom, por both? To see if it worth it changing the kernel as I like more features as GPU OC
Btw congratulations for such a good rom

Hello!
Can it work on N900w8?
awesome
-------------------------------------signature--------------------------------------
Oh I remember this name.
Finally!
at last ...
For all Canadian fellows, you can't install on N900W8 ... I tried...
Awesome Stuff maannnn...
---------- Post added at 01:07 AM ---------- Previous post was at 01:05 AM ----------
I installed xposed framework and everything is working except for the "App Setting" module to set the per-app-dpi and that's the only module that I use Do you know how to fix it? Or any alternate app/module or solution?
For Canadian version as well as t-mobile
Updater script needs to have device value in it
As aneeded example for tmobile
Instead of the first two displaying hltexx I change to hltetmo and am able to flash successfully
It's actually quite simple.
I use winrar and notepad++ on my pc to do this.
Although some features may not work properly and the risk is entirely up to you.
Or in some cases philz recovery is able to flash them but if there is a specific recovery to use as a requirement you take full responsibility of trying this
Just trying to clarify

Hi, I was wondering if I can ask a build question of you.
I'd like to build carbon lp5.1 for hltespr.
I've built for hltespr and hltespr pac-man kk and lp unofficial roms; well not frequent htlespr lp as there is an official maintainer. If I find the nightlys have failed I manually build hltespr for the users until the nightlys are fixed. encho is good with that setup.
Anyhow, I have the roomservice.xml file created by getdependency during pac build. I can put that file in .repo/local_manifests for carbon?
My issue is I can't figure out where to create the carbon_kltespr.mk file so lunch will run. do I create a device/samsung/kltespr folder and place it there?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT I believe I've found what I needed, 1 problem when you start building with PAC-MAN ROM 1st. They make it too easy
EDIT2: - I'm closer ... I've got the device tree down from CM12.1. .. I PM'd you instead of cluttering up the thread.

Waiting for the new version dear. This is the most stable/feature rich AOSP Rom I've ever used on N9005 by a long margin. I've been using it for a month now and haven't had a single FC/bootloop, also the battery life is great with arter97 kernel and power saving mode enabled, but there's still room for improvement in battery life. Keep up the good word. :good:

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 6 (Marshmallow)?
A: Yes
Q: What code is Oct-M based on?
A: Starting with Oct-M, we've rebased OctOs on Aosp code.
Q: What happened to CM?
A: Octos was originally formed as an AOSP source rom. We have returned to those roots.
Q: Why isn't there XXXXXXX feature.
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it

A: ROM developers, including CM, build something they want to use.

While there is more setup involved, if you are doing consistent ROM flashing, you really should invest the time to get setup properly to do it.

Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and grab your GApps package (Nano or Pico)
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
Wipe /data, /cache, /system and Dalvik-Cache

About
MoKee OpenSource is based on the Google AOSP. We update our source code frequently to keep up with the latest development, and not forgetting to merge in special features of our own at the same time.
A small group of people from around the world who are interested in Android launched this project on the 12th of December 2012, and is committed to make this ROM better and better. Like most contributors of open source projects (Omni, CyanogenMod, Slim AOSPA etc), we are doing all these in our free time as our passion…
Since this project is open source, anyone interested can participate in the development (maintain new devices, contribute code etc). Newcomers are always welcomed!
Read here for developer application: http://www.mfunz.com/en/developer-application, you can host your unofficial MoKee builds on our server!
Features: (I will mention only that which does not take into CyanogenMod)

What is the difference?
RELEASE: Tested after integrating new features, more stable than NIGHTLY. (Odexed builds)
NIGHTLY: Built daily with newest code and experimental features, might contain undiscovered bugs. (Deodexded builds)
HISTORY: Final odexded builds once a newer Android version is out and being built.
EXPERIMENTAL: Released when a new device is added or when a new feature is added for public beta testing and feedback. (Deodexded builds)
UNOFFICIAL: Maintained separately by individual developers, usually involves modification of shared code which cannot be merged (affects other devices), therefore maintained by the developer himself.
Note: We always test the shared code for bugs, however sometimes we may not be able to detect device specific bugs. If you have such issues, it will be better to report to the device maintainer.

Installation mode :
To install the clean rom:
Download the rom
enters recovery
make all wipes (all)
choose zip from rom and install
you can use a gapps any of its taste since it is for android 7.1.x
or you can go MokeeCenter after starting rom, there you can download the small gapps integrated into the system and have a lighter and clean rom.
To install upgrade:
Method 1:
just download the complete package via OTA
enter the recovery
only to wipe cache and dalvik (optional, I do not)
install the complete package downloaded via OTA
Method 2:
Download the complete package over the air and go on to install update
let install automatically for you
Method 3:
Download only incremental updates
for that you need to donate 30 CNY for the team to release the feature on the device directly
But you can do this update without donation
just go on the site and click below build itself where it is written (upgrade: OTA to MK ...)
there will be the incremental free for you, this will save on your data package or in your spare time.
Big Thanks @martincz for development

Great to see mokee come on 7.1 for this phone!!
Will try out this ROM on my falcon.
Thank you!
Definitely I will try it, I'm a huge fan of Mokee ROM. Thx for sharing!!!!
I see a lot lot of development and dedicated hard worker devs working on falcon, never saw such development on many popular/high end/ flagship phone.
seems, our falcon is a super set and I don't wanna switch to another phone.
take love from falcon.
Rom is smooth and awesome but, there are some bugs or feature missing.
1. battery icons in status bar not changing for landscape or circle.
2. need a setting to permanently place the network meter in status bar if you can.
3. recents screen doesn't show the amount of ram used.
4. rom uses more ram than marshmallow(just my observation) even without installing any apps.
5. a little lag sometimes.
6. a way to change the theme??

For the sake of development, I appreciate your report ... But ram is something that you can not question yet since more features can be used.
On topics will have to wait a little longer for cyanogenmod sources.
The same in the battery icons issue.

I just told my observation. You know when more ram used by system means, we cant use many apps simultaneously. Just my worry. Whatever, our device is three years older, so nevermind. On other topics, will wait for cyanogen bug fixes.:good:

How to download mokee gapps from mokee centre?
Good ROM
Very Good ROM, but a swap of 255 MB is no longer enough for Falcon running Android 7, and even with android 6 you could notice the lack of memory to run applications like Facebook etc. I would like them to increase the size of the Swap.
Hi guys, I can't install Mokee on my xt1032. I get error 6. I don't know why. I have twrp 3.2.1-0 how can I fix it?

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is this Android 7 (Nougat)?
A: Yes, this is Android 7.1.1
Q: What code is Oct-N based on?
A: This version of Oct-N is based on LineageOS 14.1
Q: Why isn't there XYZ feature?
A: Shoot us a Suggestion if you want to see something added. While we are not going to promise to implement, we will always look into it
Q: But all the others have..
A: ROM developers, build something they want to use. The ROM developer that includes something they won't run implies less than 100% effort to ensure it does work. As a team, we have similar goals and objectives. If XYZ ROM has a feature you want, and we don't include (or don't want to include), feel free to use XYZ ROM, or build your own custom version of Oct-N.
Q: What about root?
A: Root is removed by default (user will be able to flash which ever root zip they want)
ADB Logcat tutorial here: How to create a logcat log
Basic Instructions:
Download ROM .zip file and MD5 file, and grab your favorite Open Gapps package http://opengapps.org
Reboot to Recovery (Note: Use Reboot to Recovery from Power Menu, Hardware-based boot to recovery, or adb reboot recovery - ROM Manager or similar software is NOT supported)
--- TWRP is the ONLY recovery Team OctOs uses - We do not support flashing on CWM ---
The Oct-N ROM installation script will automatically wipe /system, /cache, and /dalvik-cache. There is no need to do these before or after flashing the ROM unless you are instructed to by your Gapps Provider. When dirty flashing weekly updates, you MUST reflash Gapps along with any other files, apps, custom mods or kernels etc.. (anything that resides in system partition)
Flash ROM, GApps and any additional .ZIP files
Reboot

Tnx for noghat rom tnx bro^_^
In calls, it seems like the proximity sensor is always at 0.
This causes the screen to remain black, and all buttons unresponsive until the person on the other side ends the call.
Does anyone else have this issue, or know how to just disable the proximity sensor altogether?
I just tested it. Mine works fine.

Working great. Bluetooth, WiFi, GPS, LTE, Camera. You name it, it works! Battery life is great. Thank you for keeping my old S4 as new as it can be... I don't need an upgrade because of you. Thanks again!!!
Hi manfromgta,
Thanks for keeping our beloved S4 alive and up to date.
One quick question - I have jfltecan (i337m). Can OctOS jfleatt be installed directly or do we have to update update-script? Which twrp should be used - twrp for jfltexx or jflteatt or jfltecan?
Update: flashed recovery jftleatt (had jfltexx) and installed without any problem.
Thanks in advance.
Found some issues related to battery performance. Ambient screen wake doesn't allow the system to go into deep sleep mode (using naptime to force sleep due to saving battery still doesn't work) as well with wireless apps not allowing system to deep sleep. (Whilst deezer is running system stays awake).
Not sure if this is intentional?
EDIT: Should wakelock should be using this much battery?
Spoiler
Edit: Also. Replying to texts using the quick reply in the notification centre sometimes closes the app behind it. Defeating the purpose of the quick reply.
(Running off jfltecan)
Looking forward to the next weekly! I like to flash

OctOS looks really tempting! Thanks for keeping the S4 alive! I checked the OctOS change logs as well as the features of Nougat generally but I could not find an answer to one question: does OctOS (and/or Nougat 7.1.1 natively) allow apps to write to the external MicroSD card? I struggled with the lack of MicroSD write access on Marshmallow and prefer liberal reading/writing to MicroSD. (Merging MicroSD with internal storage failed spectacularly for me.) If anyone can confirm, that would bring me one step closer to Nougat!

There is a setting that directly says what youre asking in the developer options (allow apps to write to external sd) but i can't confirm if it does allow unrestricted write.

Working great so far
The rom is great but...
The rom has been working fine. No major bugs. But streaming videos over 4G even for a little time drains lot of battery. This didnt happen with the other roms I have tried. Standby time is great though.
Um, why is this ROM not getting more attention? Solid 7.1.1 performance and interpretation -- excellent balance of features and customization. Well worthy of listing in the top options for this device. Thanks, devs.

Mine has equal performance to RR streaming locally, haven't tried on 4G. The drain may be related to the radio interface and not the ROM. Could test by WiFi.
