[Completed] S5 neo, disable software updates?? - XDA Assist

i want to disable the software updates on the s5 i recently purchased. although its a phone i plan on using it as a tablet/camera. i would like to disable the software updates as i really do enjoy the blue interface in the pull down menu. i went into settings and chose dont automatically update software... but it sitll tries to when it senses my wifi being connected.
other than rooting so its not able to, is there anything i can do to stop the updates?
i know to many, the blue interface probably sounds like such a dumb thing to be worried about, but i just really like the way it looks and would like to keep it.
i have no sim so theres no data connection possible, only wifi. but when i pull up wifi to play a game, it starts wanting to update.
i went in to the app settings and disabled something called software updates (that it would let me, but there are 2 identically named things in the app manager, and only one let me disable it), it didnt work though, it still wants to update. i also went into the factory recovery and wiped the cache. that didnt help either....
is there anything i can do? Also been looking to get rid of the annoying battery cover message that happens on reboot

HELP!!! serious problem.... help please!!

Hello there,
I have a serious problem. A while ago i flashed the energy rom to my device and it worked great. Now i can't use my phone anymore because it was a beta version? I've searched the forum, and i saw more of you got the same problem.
And i've read that it's possible to reinstall windows on my device but..
I typed serious import texts with notefolio and windows note creator program thing, i need it for my job,, Is there any way to retrieve those text files? It's not on my SD card, so it must be in the internal memory.. ****
My laptop makes a sound when i connect the USB cable, nut i can't see my touch pro in ''my computer'', it seems it won't connect...
Please please help me i'm desperate
thanks allready
Greatings,
Bouke
Mine just did the same thing and im about to leave the country. Have any suggested new builds?
Energy Rom Craps Out
My phone has also taken the time trial sleep, any help before I reflash. XDA should make it known that acts such as this do not happen again. I have donated to the development of this site, now wondering why & if I will do it again. Please help with a fix other than reflashing.
Moved as not ROM Development.

I dont think theres any way to undo this thing. just happend to me this morning. I was able to get a start menu, but all the apps I start, start under the message.
BUT, since I got enough reminders that this version I flashed was going down, I see not more than to just accept this failure .
So I held down the vol- button en pressed the reset button with my stylus, now I its flashing a new ROM.
Good luck
yea i tried that aswell, but everyting is beneeth the message.
And indeed it's a huge FAIL from the energy rom developer
I'm still hoping for some reactions that may help recovering my valuable text files..
If i flash a new rom it will erase all the data on the phone memory including text files notefolie etc. right?
Greatings
unfortunately yes. as far as i know there is no chance of getting them out of there. but you installed a custom and private made rom - that is to some extend alsways a risk and you should back up all the things you have on your phone when you do this.
good luck
i too want to get a few things out of the phone.
the stuff that still works is htc sense, and anything started directly out of sense, but not any shortcuts to programs.
you can access it by locking the phone, then unlocking it.
it will give me access to sense ui.
so i'm now pretty much looking for anything that's left to help me start a backup program.
any ideas on how to add a program as a service?
maybe with sd autostart.
does that still work?
all we need is to get the phone to run one lousy backup app.
maybe even automated.
we need ideas! ;-)

My phone locks on long end key.
If I press that and unlock again, the expiry message disappears for a while.
Sense and some Programs started directly from within work. Not the home screen links
However, I cannot start programs from links or access the internal memory.
Is there any way to read this while in "boot screen" mode?
If you can get some things to work, then pull your sim card out, and sync to a pc. If the syncing works, set the pc's date back a few days, and see if the rom starts working normally, then back up what you need and re-flash.
If you can't sync, just try to fix the date on your phone. A soft reset may be required.
Doesn't work as Sense crashes when I try to set the date.
Maybe it works for other people.
Sync does not work as that is blocked.
I tried changing the timezone immediately after it locked but that didn't work either.
So I suspect changing the date back wouldn't do you any good.
In other words: I don't see any way to recover any data from internal memory.
I'm going to do a hard reset now as I don't have time for this.
I conclude that whoever decided or implemented this timebomb as is, is a complete asshole and I hope he gets eaten by wolves in his sleep.
Disabling a product after a beta phase and/or forcing customers to update is perfectly fine, destroying their data in the process is unacceptable.

Gee, Office 2010 is a beta release, and came with a time-bomb. Maybe you should call microsoft and tell them to suck it since your custom rom didn't live up to your expectations.

I totally agree with that. I don't have time for it either, and i've already told my supervisor the good news..
Does anyone know a good working smooth ROM without the crappy time bomb thing?

[Q] The Phone part of my Phone kind of doesn't work anymore!?

I've got this Samsung Focus on AT&T, the other day I decided to force the newest update. I made sure I had all the correct languages and everything. The update went through and most of the phone works. (cellular connection is indeed corruption, and I know about the fix for that.)
Basically what's happening is, the Phone liveTile shows the accumulated missed calls but when I tap on it, the animation freezes then goes back to the homescreen. I can call people through the People app or by using TellMe, and people can call me. I suppose the only thing I can't do is check to see who has called me.
Is this a known issue? Is there a fix? please let me know! as for the backup...
Apparently the backup I did got corrupted in some way, so there's no going back to that (the currently existing back up for some reason is after the update, though I haven't tried using it yet).
restart it. if doesn't work. reset the phone
Yeah, I definitely tried restarting it. I even ran the Samsung tools and that didn't fix anything (including my data issue... I tap on "cellular" in the settings and it doesn't open. ****e.) To modify a classic Bill Gates quote... "I guess that's why they're not shipping 8107 yet."
I think I have an old mango back up from the fall, but oh jeez, that's a lot of backtracking.
I'll keep refreshing this thread to see if any experts have any ideas for a little bit, after a while I'll just reset the phone I guess.
The phone app thing isn't a huge deal at the moment, but no cellular data?! How am I supposed to win arguments without a cellular data connection?
read the thread more carefully, and apply the correct updates - core os update is not enough...just read...please!
Bad update, you need correct language file, i had the same problem on my Titan... Phone live tile, in settings Mobile network etc doesnt work after bad update.
I had the following in my cab sender folder:

Will simple reapplying work perhaps? I mean, I'm pretty sure those are the only ones I needed, I did read the thread quite a few times.
Update reapplied and now it's working!!!!
Now I just need to figure out my internet sharing issue.

Available Network Notifications

I finally convinced my wife to join the Android ranks when the One X was released on AT&T earlier this year. She used an iPhone 4 before that; had an iPhone 3G before that. There's were growing pains in the first 48 hours, but she's really pretty comfortable with ICS and Sense now. (And she loves the hardware.)
That said, there's one thing that drives her absolutely nuts: She constantly receives notifications reporting that open wi-fi networks are nearby. (She leaves wi-fi on at all times, but the option to notify when open networks are detected is disabled.)
(She pulled down AT&T's latest update last week. This problem started then.)
A few others reported the same issue in this thread, but I couldn't find any mentionings of it anywhere else. I decided to create a new thread, here, rather than derail the one I found.
In that thread, a nerk69 says "Factory Reset... will clear up the problems that start happening right after an update" (but doesn't outright say that it will fix this issue, which wasn't listed in the OP's post).
I'll give the Factory Reset (sans-data-wipe) a shot tonight and report back with our findings. Anyone know of any alternative, more-convenient fixes?
Wait if you want to remove the notification for open networks all you have to do is go into settings>touch WiFi>touch menu located at the top right >touch advanced > and uncheck the first option that says network notification. You should be good to go.

Our problem isn't that we don't know how to disable the feature -- it's that we continue to get notifications, even when the feature is disabled. She's toggled it dozens of times and tried numerous reboots. The only way to prevent the notifications, that we've found so far -- save for a Factory Reset, maybe -- is to totally disable the wi-fi adapter. That isn't a "fix" though, for understandable reasons...

It's easy for me to say it doesn't bother me, but I'm also not having to deal with it. (That's one of the first things I disabled on my Android phones too; just isn't necessary, especially when you're utilizing something like Tasker.)
I just ran the Factory Reset idea by her; probably won't be doing that after all. She hates the constant wi-fi notifications, but the idea of the Factory Reset makes her uneasy; doesn't want to have to recreate each of her apps' settings, and she's a little scared of losing other data. (She's also totally opposed to rooting and using custom ROMs -- she's seen me learn with trial-by-fire too many times on too many devices to believe that can be a hitch-free process.)
There's probably plenty of backup options that'll work within those parameters, but I'm out of my comfort zone.
If I find another solution, I'll definitely let you guys know!
I too am seeing this issue. I've tried restarting and killing the settings process numerous times with no luck. I sent an email to HTC support so we'll see what they come back with. Hopefully they don't suggest a factory reset but if they do then I guess I'll be the guinea pig.

I suspect the Factory Reset will work, and if it were my device, I'd do it in half-a-heartbeat. But if HTC or AT&T suggest that as the fix... well, let's just hope they don't. (Or, at the very least, let's hope they'll address this in the next update.)
Let us know what you find! :good:

I too have seen the issue where the setting doesn't work. I didnt pay too much close attention to which ROM's I saw it in, but out of about 30 ROM's I have tried maybe 2 have done it.
Its a bug in the ROM you are running, perhaps it is AT&T 2.20 that has the bug and it's likely ROM's based on 2.20 that also have the bug.
Live with it until AT&T release another update, or work to move to custom ROMs?

That's going to take a lot of work! I've taken early builds of custom ROMs on my Android hardware long enough to grab a few buggy ROMs in the process, and she's witness the frustration it can lead to. (I wasn't always very good about taking nandroid backups before trying a new ROM, and that's backfired more times than I'd like to admit.) This is her first Android device, and while she's ahead of the curve, she's not interested enough to take the plunge into that world yet.
Besides, based on the other thread, it sounds like this might be fixable via Factory Reset.
Hopefully Spacebob11 can vouch for the Factory Reset after he gives it a shot. And hopefully he gets a positive response from HTC.
Got a response from HTC. Not the response I was looking for
Their are a couple options I can give you to rectify this issue. One is to add the Power Control Widget to your homescreen which will allow you to turn WiFi on when you want to connect to WiFi. You can add this Widget simply by pressing and holding on an empty area of your homescreen and then selecting Power Control. This allow quick access to a few different things to turn on/off.
The other option would be to do a Factory Data Reset to your device. This will reset your phone to its factory settings so before doing this, make sure you back up your personal data as it will reset the device to its factory settings. You can back up to Google, Outlook, or the SD card. If you need assistance doing this you can reply back to me or call our Technical Support at 1-866-449-8358 between 6 AM - 1 AM EST, 7 days a week.
Performing a factory reset from settings
1. Slide the Notifications panel open, and then tap Settings.
2. Tap Storage > Factory data reset.
3. Tap Reset phone, and then tap Erase everything

Gotta love when the very first word from HTC is a typo.
You could try to use this backup method before using the factory reset.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420351
Going to try it tonight.
I also have this problem and am not wild about doing a factory reset. Subscribed for eventual solution (maybe 4.1, maybe workaround).

Is there a way to get rid of "Unautorized actions have been detected after root?

After i rooted my Tmobile Galaxy S7, i keep on getting this message saying "Security notice : Unauthorized actions have been detected. Restart to undo change. Im sure that this is KNOX kicking in. Is there a safe way to disable KNOX? Maybe through Titanium Backup? i just got this phone so im still new to the phone ins and outs.
I have even uninstalled all the apps and .apks (bloatware) that i wanted to and took root off of the phone. The message still comes up after restarting. There is a restart option within in the devices security tab that if i click on, restarts my phone but then there is an error and nothing happens.
As a side note, when i leave my house i like to take off WIFI and i have noticed that when i get back and connect to the network i have to reapply the password? is there a setting to correct this.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

I used Titanium Backup to uninstall "SecurityLogAgent". Just open Titanium. Tap on "Backup/Restore" and scroll down the huge list until you see "SecurityLogAgent". Taping on it gives a couple of options. I made a "Backup" of the file before tapping on "Uninstall". Once uninstalled just restart your device. I have the Galaxy Note 8 SM-N950N and it worked like a charm on this device. Good luck on your S7.
I did resolve it in a kindda primitive way
Since it is rooted, I use Root Explorer and go to system app folder. I change the permission of both folder and app of SecurityLogAgent to none. I believe it means the app won't run when restarted. It disapears now. As I have knowledge limitation about how this app work within the system, I will see if it compromize the system. I have the latest firmware and Odin ready to reflash.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and Galaxy Buds Bugs and Errors

Hello there! This is my first time in this forum so I apologize if this is not the right place to post this.
So, I need help with my Note 9
SM-N9600
One UI 2.5
Snapdragon I think
For a year or so now I've been having trouble with:
- Losing volume in my earbuds
- Experiencing lag in downloaded videos in Nike Training Club and Samsung Health apps
- And most recently the Google Play Store and LBRY apps have crashed a lot
It all first started after installing tutuapp. at first it was all normal but after a few months I first noticed my buds coming low in volume. Of course I visited every possible thread and blog and advice on the subject but nothing would work so eventually I went to a Samsung store and they offered to reinstall the firmware so I did.
It solved everything! until dummy me I reinstalled the app. It took a couple of months to realize that tutuapp was the source of all my troubles and when that happened I never installed it again, but... I now installed an APK and it happened again. It's worth mentioning that at the time I would only notice the low volume because I didn't use the exercise apps.
Anyhow, reinstalling firmware fixed it again and again (It took me a bit realizing that the APK was the source of trouble) until it didn't and now no matter how many times I reinstall it, my right bud is lower on volume and my left bud just sounds weird. Once I did a reset on the cache memory and it actually fixed the buds volume quality perfectly, although just for about a day and then back to broken.
So far it is clear to me that Samsung has no clue as to how to fix this issue nor care to fix it really, they find any little excuse to make their job easier instead of fixing stuff in my experience. Anyway, It's been so long and I'm a bit desperate to know exactly what the problem is, let alone fix it so I appreciate any help fixing this.
Please and thank you.
P.S.
I have posted this already in the Note 9 section but I posted here aswell due to an admin's advice as to get more exposure, a quicker answer and hopefully the attention of some android pro/veteran.
Verify the Buds are working normally on another device. If good try steps below, if not you got corrupted firmware on the Buds. Only Samsung can fix that.
Make sure your Wearables and Buds firmware are current.
Clear system cache, do a network reset and a hard reboot.
If still there start going through the settings. It may have toggle a visible one. Look under Advanced Sound Settings, play with those.
Go into Developer options and try toggling the codec setting, sometimes that will cause the needed reset.
Play with it.
It's better to find the root cause than to factory reset if possible otherwise it may reoccur.
If those don't get it... it likely is a hidden setting was toggled. Factory reload and don't use SmartSwitch!
Poorly 3rd apks that don't uninstall cleanly can break Androids. Limit apk sampling and well... now you know one of the risks. Being on Playstore is no guarantee something like this won't happen! Sample what you want now before the reload; install only known good apks after the reload.
Fun times, huh?

Advanced sound settings and codec settings... do you mind elaborating on those? What am I looking for exactly?
No smartswitch... why is that?
The thing that makes the most sense to me is a hidden setting since I have tried everything for so long... but which setting?
Thanks for the quick reply

Can say precisely where it it in Advanced sound settings as a Wearables update modified it on my device, that option is gone. Took Samsung years to fix that.
In Developer options it's under bluetooth settings.
If it's a hidden setting you have no access to it normally. You may be able to purge it by clearing the parent/dependency app's data. Obviously as a factory reset removes it, it's on the userdata partition but finding it can be difficult with no direct access.
Sometimes clearing system apks data in settings will leave a null mark and it will continue to misbehave. Been there, done that...
I know that Package Disabler will completely clear the data. In your case that's probably not necessary. In my case PD MDM saved me a factory reset, one reason I wuv the app.

Thinking about it... I don't think the issue is so directly connected to the buds. I feel like the buds and these apps are just side effects, if that makes sense. Btw this very app is starting to crash aswell as LBRY.
Some time ago I reinstalled the firmware and applied a backup and because tutuapp was in the backup and the samsung technician told me those apps cause trouble, I could delete it and fixed it after another reinstall, that's when I discover the real cause.
Having said that, I think the issue remains inside some file or setting I don't ever look at or change and hides in it. It may sound weird but something like a contact or photos or something, and I mention those because I don't change anything around those places but then again... I'm just lost.
Anyway, thanks for your help, I'll look around your suggestion and if what I said above makes sense, I'd love more ideas.
Cheers
P.S. Bluetooth Audio Codec, found it!
It was on SBC, there are several options:
SBC
AAC
aptX
LDAC
Scalable Codec
All Codec
System Default Codec
Funny thing, if the option selected is not SBC, the word "streaming: AAC" appears in each case

You're welcome.
First use another device to verify the Buds are working normally before you go all medieval on the phone. Buds tend to be very reliable but you know how that goes.
Sorry, forgot about SmartSwitch. It's ok to use on the same device/OS version otherwise don't particularly if backing up settings.
In your case it could import the setting causing this issue.
Next reload be careful what you load. 3rd party apps have the potential to cause a lot of trouble. I watch my downloads and apps like a hawk.

Yeah, after I solve this all 3rd party apps and apks are out of the question lol.
I have test the buds several times and it's definitively my phone, it sounds weird with every kind of earphones I have tested.
I snooped around the Codec thing and while it improves the audio quality, unfortunately I can still distinguish the bug in there so I guess I will just have to come up with something else.
Thanks a lot mate!

Try doing a reset in the Wearables app that might purge the gremlin.
Wearables just updated, as usual Samsung made the interface worse, idiots. They buried the equalizer in the menu and put ambient sound control on top. A useless function I never use... morons. Guess I call them and chew them out a spell... I enjoy that

Oh, I feel ya. They really care about selling fast against apple but leave all these products behind. Their customer service also sucks, they are only there to tell you that the bug is in you, not the device... it's horrible, it's a pity for such a great capable phone...
P.S. Just tried the wearable thing but no luck. I was just remembering that the last apk which I installed and broke everything for good was the note10+ star wars edition firmware... and of course it had a much bigger impact on the phone than tutuapp and other hacks for games... any known bugs from installing that?

Getting SK Samsung tech support on the phone is something I relish like a demon. They can not handle criticism at all and I just lay into them.
It's a cultural thing. They can't solve problems either which is probably just crap training.
Nothing should break firmware that a factory reset can't fix on Pie* and above. That sounds more like a rootkit than a just bad app. It may have damage the hardware if a factory reset didn't fix it.
Be careful what you install...
*pre Android 9 OS's are vulnerable to rootkits that can breach the userdata partition, a reflash is required to purge them. That vulnerability was patched on Android 9.
When you factory reset you wipe the userdata partition and viruses, rootkits, corrupted data, whatever ceases to exist.

Most def crap training, they know nothing but to make a quick reset or factory wipe...
Anyhow... that makes sense! I don't want to ask how does a rootkit damages hardware because I know it will be an extensive topic but if 3 firmware reinstalls (by this I mean firmware glash with odin by a samsung tech guy) didn't fix the issue, then for sure it is a hardware thing which makes things so much worse for me because it sounds expensive! Lol
How do I check my hardware's health?
P.S. is there any cheer pointa or medals I can give you throigh the app? I want to show my appreciation because you have really listened to my problem man. Even if I don't fix this, thanks a lot for your help and dedication.

Normally rootkits don't fry hardware but the firmware controls most of the hardware.
If the rootkit can't breach the userdata partition I doubt it would be able to damage hardware. I may be mistaken though.
You check hardware by function or lack off.
Not sure what advance testing is available for Android memory and the CPU other then bench mark apps... never had to do it.
It may have been damage by a drop or just a failure with no discernible cause. While the mobo has thermal auto shutdown it's still possible to overheat and damage components.
Especially if there's a fast temperature rise.
If it's the mobo you just replace it...

Hmmmm... what is mobo?
Is it possible that the SIM card is generating the issues? The card that has my phone number in it?

Mobo ie Motherboard.
Good Q, the sim isn't directly connected to bluetooth operation that I'm aware of.
Here's a guide that might help you and shows some specific settings to try:
Redirect Notice
If streaming from the SD card, does its bandwidth support the thru put?
Try playing with these...

Don't know. I just keep playing with it and reading about similar issues until I fix it.
Try in safe mode.
A 3rd party app may alter settings hidden from the user.
Or the solution may be hiding in plain sight. I was having a volume issue (went on for months) with a browser vid player until I realized it had a hidden volume slider by the mute button
Factory reset if you're desperate but it may reoccur.
Alright then, thanks and cheers!
