Hey so I've been a supporter of Amber Weather for a loooong time now. However as of late I've been on a minimizing spree, reducing space taken up by apps, processing, battery drain, etc. So i was wondering. Is there an app that gives you a persistent weather notification widget similarly to amber weather BUT launches Google Now's weather section similarly to how the icon would do it. Or is there no such thing?
I found one app called Weather Notification that i thought would let me choose what would happen when i clicked on the notification but soon found out that it only launched the Weather Notification app for configuration and the notification itself wasn't persistent as it could be swiped away and cleared.
So is there something out there like what i'm describing or am i doomed to always have amber weather for the notification and just launching google now's weather from it's shortcut?
I haven't used Amber Weather so can't really say much about that but what I do use is one called Eye in the Sky weather. I like its flat matte design and Dashclock support, along with the extensive forecasts that it shows.

Eye in the sky is similar to Amber weather as it comes with it's own weather app that it launches when you select it's notification widget. What i want is a persistent notification that only shows the weather based on google now and when you tap on the notification it launches google now's weather. Like a stock widget just in my notification tray and status bar.
Why don't you just use Google now weather?
I also didn't use Amber weather but I have a localized one which I believe is more accurate.

that's what i want to use. But i want there to be a persistent notification for it in my status bar so i always have a quick glance option if i need it on my lock screen and status bar. To have to open up google now every time i want to see the weather is far too annoying when i could just have a notification always there.

Hi,
Do you know any weather app that does not have running service?
Yes, weather forecast app that can pull data "manually" ...
No need periodic / interval update ...
Widget is not necessary either ...
Moved to Q&A BW, Fancy widget, and even the default news and weather app has this I believe
Most have these "features" and I don't really like that either. I've noticed that most of them will let you change the frequency that they pull info. Some down to 12 hours.
Fancy widget has lots of refresh options. One of them being to only refresh weather manually.
Thanks for all the suggestions. At the end, I ended up with (again) Beautiful Widget 1x1 (I already bought this when I use HTC Desire).
The reason that I want to find this kind of weather app, because I want to limit the number of running (background) services.
So, I replaced the Beautiful Widget Home widget with "simiClock" because it is simple, elegant and uses black background (save battery life).
simiClock has weather info as well ... But it does not have forecast.
That's why I was looking for weather app which can be activated (launched) when I press the simiClock weather.
But, it seems I cannot find one ... The one with update/interval can be controlled (I am not weather obsessive guy, so manual update is the best for me).
At the end, I am back with Beautiful widget weather 1x1 ... until I found a nice weather forecast app to launch from simiClock
I purchased the Weatherbug Elite. It has the options to turn off the background processing and only grab weather data when you run the app.
it's unfortunate, but i'm running into the same situation
i want to disable the back ground processing of the weather app that i like, but the app doesn't have such a feature/option
the app is supplied directly from The Weather Network, and it's very accurate, all the other apps that i've tried before are not so great
Try WeatherPro, best weather app imo
try Fancy widget... you'll love it! great app
Moxier World is by far the best I've found.
It updates either automatically or manually.
It also shows local time and weather in as many world locations as you need. It has 5 days forecast for each.

yes, it is nice, it's what i'm using
Try this out. It has an option to set update interval (or disable update entirely)
Does anyone know of any weather apps that show not only the temp but an icon with the current conditions? A sun, or cloud with rain, etc. in the status bar.
Thanks!
My favorite, Beautiful Widgets. There is a lite (free) version and a paid version with many more weather icons to choose from. But search the market for weather widgets. There are multiple to choose from.

Here ya go. "Weather, Alerts, Quakes, Barometer, Clock". I am so pleased with this app. It updates quickly and I can choose which alerts it puts on the notification bar. Including Shy, which shows whether it raning, sunny night, ect....

Thanks guys! I will check those out!
Hi Guys,
Notification Weather is an exceptionally stylish and easy to use app for always staying up to date with the weather forecast.
Notification Weather is specifically designed to be as simple and intuitive as possible. In fact, Notification Weather requires 0 clicks to operate as it runs entirely in the background, thus minimizing impact on battery life or data usage. The forecast is placed directly in the notification dropdown and blends seamlessly with the operating system, leading you to believe it is part of the system.
Notification Weather is using Weather data from some of the best weather sources available including: Open Weather Map, Yahoo! weather, and Weather Bug.
Notification Weather Pro also supports AccuWeather and World Weather Online.
Pro Features:
- A refresh button and progress bar in notification that allows you to refresh the data manually
- Launch your app of choice by tapping the notification.
- 2 extra weather providers: AccuWeather and World Weather Online
- Option to get rid the small notification icon in the status bar
- Option to Swipe the notification to dismiss, until next update.
- Ability to switch between 12/24 hour time format.
- No Ads

How do I show only the current weather and not the 4 day forecast?
btw, celsius is spelt with 2 's.

This is great. I agree with nyloncrack above, that there should be an option for just the current weather. And also, for the notification icon, it would be much more useful if you had the current temperature instead of that image of a sun. Great app though!
Thanks for the share.Great idea for people that don't want a weather app on the home screen.
Here's the link for those who want to click directly from here: http://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.orbar.NotificationWeather

nice catch on the Celsius typo. new version should be up shortly
looks nice but it's incompatible with my at&t htc one x
*didn't see it was 4.1+
Very good!!!
Great app. Would love the option to disable 4 day forecast. Looking forward to added features!

This is a beautifully made app, congratulations! Just a request, could you add other languages, like Brazilian Portuguese? If you need help with translation I can help you with that!

Another request, can you please let us choose the weather providers? I'd like to use yr.no instead of Yahoo. They have a MUCH more extensive list of cities, especially in small countries like mine. Yahoo only has the capital and about 2-3 cities.
In all cases, thanks A LOT. Just a few days ago I was asking on Twitter if someone knew a weather forecast app that made use of Jelly Bean's notifications. And now, you did it!
A few additions:
1. Maybe add the option to have rain probability for today.
2. German "Umlaute", like ö, ä, ü will not display correctly.
Nice app all in all. I will try it out for a few days and then decide on keeping it or not =)
LOOKS GREAT!!!!
Just what I have been looking for.
For those that don't want 4day forecast, just two finger swipe up on the notification and it will shrink it.
The only suggestion I have: have an option to get rid of icon in status bar.
But looks great man, might I ask where you learned your coding? I would like to get into it.
I like it. Although when I uninstalled it, my phone restarted. GS3 with CM10 nightly.
Looking great, congrats!
As far as I know, you can't get rid of the icon, so it'd be great to have the current temp on it (yes, it has to be an icon resource, so you'll have to generate icons for all possible temps... sucks, I know)
Would you consider sharing the source code? I'm interested in programming a somewhat similar permanent notification widget and really think this could help me out.

Are you running 4.1? this app requires APIs that were introduced with JB.

Google introduced expandable notifications in android 4.1 (jelly bean) so unless they backport it to ICS, I won't be able to release it on ICS.
Hello partners
I'm Seeking for a widget like beautiful widgets, transparent weather clock, etc which shows time and weather (weather is not essential) and allow to perform actions by touching a part of the widget (the hour, the minute, the city ..) and allow it without unlocking the phone (I mean the swipe security screen lock).
The problem with these is that I put is that not allow to execute actions ROM, gravitybox, etc, only allow launch installed applications.
Buzz widget allow actions, but pressing the entire widget, so you can only put one.
My idea is for example that if I press the minutes do toggle wifi, if I press the hours toggle sound / silence, etc.
Any ideas?
I've tried many (Beautifu widgets, 3D widget, Bright weather, Go weather, Transparent weather, Weather & clock, Weather xl, zooper, buzz, uccw ..) but none fits both needs or I am not capable of it.
Another idea that occurred to me is to find a way to make shorcuts/activities appearing on the list of installed applications but I don't have found a way to do it..
Greetings and thank you very much

Hi
Beautiful widget don't allow to launch shorcuts or activities, just installed apps
Try Chronus. You can set up on-click-actions (open apps, open popups, executing shortcuts) when clicking on parts of the widget (clock, weather, ...). Great in combination with Popup Widget.

Thanks mate I'l try Chronus
on the other hand, I'm at work right now and I can't see the youtube Popup Widget video and the google play description is very lacking (at least for me)
Could you please tell me what Popup Widget 2 does?
Edit: AFAIK is to have launch widgets via icons, isn't it? So you save space in the screen

Basically, you can create popup widgets (using every available widget from your device's apps), that can be bound to gestures, icon clicking, shortcuts and more. I would recommend to try both Chronus and Popup Widget when you have some spare time (up to 2 hours will be enough, I guess).
For example, if you create a swipe up gesture, you can launch your favourite music player widget, which will just pop up in a pre-defined area.

Great!!!
What app gestures do you work?
I'm using gesture-navigation which is great but unfortunately seems that will be dead in a close future.

Most custom ROMs (or even some launchers, like Nova Launcher) have in-built gesture support.
So does anyone have a simple temperature widget? I had been using one of the Moto clock widgets with the outside temperature in the widget but have switched to a new clock widget that doesn't have the feature. While it's not the end of the world it is something that I might like to have. I've looked at a few and they're all big and/or combined with clock widgets which don't go with my theme. I'm really looking for a simple widget that all it shows is the temperature and then when tapped could take you to the actual weather app that it's attached to... I've found a couple that'll put it on the notification bar and when you pull down on the shade, but I wasn't terribly impressed. Any suggestions?
