Why is there little to no support?!!? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

There is hardly any support for the sprint variant of the s6/s6 edge only 2 kernels from what i know of and one marshmallow rom while other variants are getting much more support
is there a reason for this??? is it harder for devs to work on sprint??

I think it maybe that sprint is CDMA and that other devs have moved onto other devices like the S7 Edge and such.

The renegade rom in the development section has any features anyone could ever need. Then there's the exposed framework that can do a ton of crap. Personally I never gained much with over clocking and under volting kernels.
Sure I wish there was some stuff to play with but, my phone just works well.

Im still trying to find said features all this is is a stock debloated rom with custom animations and a reboot menu. Any no oc uc. Skyhigh kernal is unstable and reboots to much. Teamspr has many more "features" but in my opinion can be unstable at times.
Xposed frmework runs but hardly any of the modules ive ever used. Work. Gravity box works.
Lucky ptcher works.
3 c seems to cause stability issues also

How is developer support for the Galaxy line of phones?

Wasn't sure if this is more Q&A or not.
Right now I have the evo 3d. Support for it was really good, actually still 2 or 3 developers working with it, so I'm running kitkat on it right now, which has kept me from feeling the need to upgrade right away.
Anyway, like a lot of other people I'm deciding between the m8 and s5, I might wait a little longer just to see what LG drops. I'm not too familiar with how developer friendly the Galaxy line of phones are, specifically the Sprint models. I've read varying opinions from there's little development outside of some TW roms to development is strong.
Developer support is a big deciding factor for me since it can really allow you to prolong the life of your phone, hence why I'm still using my evo 3d, though it's falling apart now and showing its age so its time to finally bite the bullet and upgrade.
Not asking anyone to predict the future on how dev support will be for the s5 but just looking for input on how it's been for the previous Galaxy phones just so I have some idea. Talking TW roms as well as AOSP roms.
Thanks!
Once you get used to using Odin to flash you'll be fine. I find that Samsung Galaxy's (I've now owned Sprints epic 4g touch, S4 and now S5) have always had excellent support here. I generally only root stock to clean up the crap software but on numerous occasions I've used full roms from XDA to see what else is out there.
A few annoyances:
1) Knox is security software that trips when you modify parts of the system and supposedly Sprint can use a tripped Knox counter to refuse warranty work. This has never happened to me however and I've had to swap handsets many times.
2) Samsung is good at getting you hooked on touchwiz and their ecosystem of apps; I like the smart view covers and it's been tough getting it to work on some of the roms available. I also like the Samsung default camera which thankfully works well on most roms, but some functions within the camera weren't available.
3) Root, in my opinion, is required to make Sprint's handsets run optimally. Mostly because you need to remove the crap software, but so far Chainfire has been fantastic getting root out very quickly for most of the handsets/providers within days of release.
Hope this helps!
So why don't you just look in the respective Galaxy phone forums and see for yourself how development is coming along? It's a simple thing to pop in here and there and just see the different ROMs, etc.
The Galaxy line is by far the most popular Android brand right now and as such gets a lot of developer attention.
I just pray @sacs will get an s5. He had the best rom ever for the s4. Id be willing to drop some $ if it would guarantee he got this phone. Kind of worried about development right now haven't seen any devs talking about doing anything for is yet. I guess thats what you get when you get a phone at release.

I'm stewing on it. Cost is an obvious factor but I have an idea on how to pull it off.
If do it won't be likely until May at earliest.

The S2 was my first time playing around with custom ROMs, and by the time I got around to it there were already several available - how long does it usually take custom ROMs to hit the community when a new phone comes out? Are we talking months?

You literally described viper rom
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
If you want customization, ViperROM is the way to go. It is fast and has so many options and settings it can almost be overwhelming if there were anymore things to explore in their tweaks app. Has some nice themes (although many are not fully compatible yet) as well. For a stock ROM with speed and removed bloatware, I recommend Skyfall. It has been the fastest for me as far as stock roms go. Bonestock is great as well, I just had awful battery life on it (which was my fault but was too lazy to diagnose so i crack flashed something else. Just try them all and see what you like best.
Stock. Everything works and you never have to wipe for an update.

Viper.
Stock with xposed seems to do the trick for me
Sent from my HTC6525LVW using Tapatalk
I've flashed BoneStock and have been really happy with it honestly. I really only wanted the bloatware removed and it did a good job of that.
I haven't tried any others yet though. Stock is actually really, really nice. HTC did a fantastic job with Sense 6.0.
A second vote for Viper! This ROM has been fantastic. Performance is much improved over stock, battery consumption has been lower, and there are so much customization that can be done through Viper One's tweak configuration (including enabling Power Saver mode which Verizon took away, performing an "auto hide" of the navigation bar, adding custom themes and colors, etc.). The devs of this ROM are also VERY responsive. Be sure to make a nandroid back up using CWM or TWRP before flashing any custom ROM, so you have something to go back to if you are not happy.
Was thinking about grabbing this phone, but what about those of us coming from stock Nexus Android? I see people recommending stock, but then dont you have to deal with Sense and stuff? Or am I just missing something?

I've run the Stock Nexus, and LOVED IT. I also got used to Samsung's TouchWhiz, I personally like HTC's Sense. Much like ROMS, this is a personal choice. I'm sure, once I see a CM or something like that I will give it a try to check it out. Sense is not like it was a couple of years ago. It Flies. Check it out, see for your self.

See if the stock will work fine for you. From there, you would know if you will still look for something better or new.

To ROM/kernel devs.

I have a question but yet a request to ROM and kernel developers.
I came here from the HTC First community, which has a descent size user base but base no Dev support, literally none. And I was wondering if anyone could take a look and see what they can do. If you can't, that's fine, but its a great device with lots of prospects if someone could get a custom ROM up and running. At least give it a look guys.
Much thanks from the whole HTC First community.
It's that bad over there huh? It runs near stock Android, right? Just use Xposed framework and set it up how you like it. That's what I would do, even if there were 100 custom ROMs available.
Nobody is going to build for a device they don't own, unless they have an extremely good reason to do so. When one builds a ROM and/or kernel, they build it to their liking - impossible if you don't even own the device.

Yup, and considering only 5 people ever bought that phone... what are the chances of one of them being a developer? Apparently zero.

Our point still stands. Asking in the Nexus 5 section won't change anything since nobody will develop for a device they don't have/care about.
If the people there want 5.0 that badly, maybe one of them should step up and do it.

Yep, I think it's the single greatest Android mod ever conceived. Both of my Android phones have Lollipop available to them, yet both are staying on KitKat and Xposed is the primary reason why.

Why is this place so dead?

This. It's the fact that it's an Exynos device. We've got plenty of TouchWiz based ROMs, which are totally fine for me, but the general attitude I see outside the Samsung forums is AOSP or GTFO.
I just got my Note 5 this past weekend. I upgrade from Note 4.

Also we can flash all of the International Roms and Dr.Ketan's audio fix, so no need to port them.

well I have been buying, rooting and romming Samsung phones for the past four years and with the Note 5 the theme engine handles my theming needs, rooting means you can't use Samsung pay, which I use almost everyday and there are no custom roms because of the xynos processor. I have system wide ad blocking without root and don't want to root only for touchwiz Roms when the stock Samsung software is running so well, surprisingly.

I also want to know more about this system-wide ad blocking that doesn't require root.
I rooted my Note5 as soon as I got it, not knowing it would permanently disable my ability to use Samsung Pay. (Yep, I should have researched it, but didn't. Mea culpa.)
But the main reason I root is for AdAway -- if I had the same results without rooting, I'd have at least considered not rooting. Samsung Pay sounds pretty sweet. :\

I don't know anything about boosting the sound volume because I haven't looked or really felt the need. For the ad blocking I use this app.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/apps-games/adguard-ad-blocker-doesnt-require-root-t2958895
If you just want ads in the browser blocked it's free. It works really well for me and even though it will show as using a lot of battery that is only due to the way the app works and handles data.

Thank u very much for the info
For system-wide ad blocking (I am not rooted) I use Adblock Plus. https://adblockplus.org/android-install
Go to the link at the bottom that says "Download Adblock Plus for Android"
Now what you have to do is make sure that Adblock Plus is never "optimized" and you don't ever kill it because it's running a localhost proxy (if you do, you lose internet until you start the app again.) You go into your APN settings and create a new APN that looks exactly like the one you already have, except that you use a proxy, localhost, on port 2020. Whenever you connect to Wifi, you use a proxy, localhost, 2020. It's not the best solution because it isn't invisible (it's always in your notifications otherwise Android can kill it to save memory) and you have to do the APN/WiFi changes as I just specified, but it's far less intrusive than ads all over the place.

Actually, I think one of the reasons there are not as many roms this time around is Samsung also had limited release of the Note 5 - it was originally internationally released in ASIA but not in Europe. I also think many of the major devs who normally are seen on the Flagship devices - didn't come along with the NOTE 5 because of BATTERY, No SD CARD, XYNOS and cost. Those four things kept many of the developers away (IMHO)
its a shame because it is a fabulous device despite those things. I will say that the Devs who did decide to join the Note 5 have done incredible work - there are some great roms out there. Just not as much variety. I also believe AOSP will eventually be done for the Note 5. There are several other examples of XyNOS phones and tablets getting AOSP - it is just a matter of time (and very hard work on the part of those who are working on it)
I'm not one to complain much but yeah I agree the Note 5 has been disappointing development wise i guess due to exynos. I might get the S7 as it's supposed to have snapdragon back which is supposed to be more developer friendly.

If you don't use a VPN on your device, Adguard is much easier. It makes a loop VPN and filters all traffic.

As for the topic at hand I'm not getting another Exynos device... I've been really upset by the lack of ROMs and Samsung hasn't exactly been great with updates either.
I just hope that the Snapdragon Kryo cores don't pose a developer issue...

How do we install other variants rom on sprint? We need support here

I just got the note 5 and I'm disappointed in the little support we have here in the sprint thread. With my note 3 and 4 i could install rom for other variants, the note 4 will only require you flash special data fixes and kernels. But for note 5, i don't know what's going on? Am i just being a newbie? Is there a way to install roms for other variants and have it working? Please if there is, share with me pleeassee... If not, we got to make it loud, we need support, maybe a data fix or something, anything that will make us part of the note 5 family. I'm totally not happy about this. Thank you
It's complicated. There's a few people messing with note 7 ports from an international cdma based firmware. GSM ports require more work than anyone honestly has time for.
There's a telegram group you can check out and see what other people are actively trying to do. Maybe you can point the way to porting all the csc/ril/framework stuff to get a data fix going.

If we root the phone we can unlock it. Isn't so?
Thank you

No not that kinda lockdown. I mean there isn't much support for Sprint. If you scroll up you understand why . If you can get anoda variant,i suggest u do
Now what if we use the phone as a Wi-Fi device no need for cell signal, just Wi-Fi. What options would I have for other?
So far all I have had was bootloops...
This is just my two cents worth but I think tdunham and Im sure a few others with him have given the sprint note 5 an amazing rom with about every kinda way to customize it built right in. But I guess I am not as flash happy as I once was. MOAR has custom kernel and tdunham has all the firmware updates ready to flash with odin. I think MOAR is a rock solid and most stable rom for the note 5. I know you said your disappointed in the little support for the sprint note 5 but I think the support we do have is top notch. like I said, This is just my two cents worth.

FYI. Running a gsm port rom on any Sprint Samsung Note4/5, etc is gonna be a complete headache due to the lack of corect frameworks, smali coding etc in order for it to work on the Sprint network. No amount of "data fixes" will correct the wrong and/or missing Sprint specific cdma code in smali. Period. As was stated here in a previous post, this stuff takes a lot of time. patience and skills to port a rom from a completely different piece of hardware and get it working decently on a different device. More time and effort than most people are willing to commit to. Believe me, i've done it but I'm not eager to do it again. This is like a second full time job.
The reason there is more support for gsm devices is because there is simply more gsm variants than cdma variants. And developers & rom chef's are hit & miss with cdma devices as well as people switching carriers & devices all the time. That and the fact that a device is nearing 2 years old and the development will decrease as time goes by. So you really can't complain with the lack of "support". This stuff requires a ton of time. skills and patience as well as mental aptitude. Not everybody has these attributes and even those who do don't always feel like they are expected to do this stuff for free. Like I said, it's a lot of work porting roms. Building roms native to a specific device is a breeze.

No bruh , i use to run other variants rom on my sprint just fine only had to flash data fixes and that was it. I think there's more to the note 5 , i think it's more complicated.

He just told you, it's more complicated, and that a "data fix" isn't going to fix the actual problems. A band aid maybe, at best!
Thanks for all you do tx!
