At the moment you can't, locked Bootloader root may also be a thing of the past since the introduction of drm-verity security with the z3+, kingroot doesn't work either and apparently they want several hundred requests before offering device support if it'll work at all. Until someone builds a kernel+recovery for unlocked bootloader root were stuck. I get mine this week all being well so will try and help in this department for lb+ulb time permitting as my m2 has always been rooted. Will take some getting used to a stock device. There's nothing on 4pda yet either

To answer your question root is working on f3111 (as long as no bad feedback reported) and now for XA ultra too! TWRP is fully working as long as you don't have any encrypted partition or if you know the pin/password, it's a little different than before because of news Marshmallow security not because of me or TWRP.
OK, now you need to unlock your bootloader and void your warranty, and nothing more than that. You can wait for a exploit to come and backup your TA but for me it's a wast of time or wait for Kingroot but result will be same, not sure to backup TA. An other thing, I can bet that Kingroot will not be OTA survivor

I'd stay stock before I use dodgy kingroot. If you still get ota updates after rooting with Kingroot you ain't fully rooted for a start and Sony ric is still active. Encryption is on by default there's no way to change it or the password that I see. Until there's a way to keep my ta keys it's not gonna happen I don't think.

You can stay with a default disabled encryption only after root and you can switch back on and set your own password if you want. That's the only way I found but it's possible. What I want to say for Kingroot is I have a big doubt if it will be possible to dump TA with temp root on Marshmallow. You right for RIC but you forget dm-verity as additional security
What about temp root? Anyone anything know about it on XA? Titanium Backup & Trimmer should work fine with it

I C,
hope there will be an Exploit soon
Hey everyone,
Was directed here by a few friends, I will admit that I am only a month into my android and I admit I know bugger all around this subject.
Basically I want to root my XA, get rid of the stupid apps that Sony insist on clogging my internal memory and also force install to my SD card as I keep getting on certain apps "not enough storage space" on my all but empty 200gb card.
I understand very little about rooting, I have tried many different things, I have spent last 2 hours working with SDK stuff and going thru cmd to get to the end and have "error: java.lang.securityexception: package android does not belong on 2000" appear to then find the phone needs to be rooted in the first place *growling a lot at the lappy by now*.
All I want is a way to root my phone successfully and force apps to install onto my huge SD card, if after that I can delete playstions, spotify, hangouts and other clutter than thats a bonus.
Remember please I am totally new to this field and rather dense with my lack of knowledge so pretend I am a lil kid that needs the big verion with pictures lol.
Thank you in advance

I have unlocked bootloader but I still can't root it I have looked for manual rooting paths but no luck they are all out of date and don't work with ADB drivers anymore. So don't waste your time unlocking bootloader because It takes forever due to the fact that nothing works for the XA atm, I spent 5 hours unlocking bootloader only to find I still can't root it.

I think you are not good enough to root your device, root is working on XA and Ultra since months ago.
is there a toolkit to do the root and flash twrp?

I will be getting a Sony Xperia E from Immix (with a SIM Card), and I am wondering if I am in the correct section of the forums. I have a few questions, since I had an HTC One V before, about the current status of this phone:
Has this phone been S-Off'd yet?
If not, is TWRP at least released for this phone?
I think that's it. I'll update with more questions as I get them
Thanks in advance,

S-OFF (unlock bootloader) in Sony terms is can be done by visit http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com and follow the instructions. make sure you test by enter *#*#7378423#*#* on dialer and then, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.
dunno if someone already build TWRP for Xperia E, but there is CWM for Xperia E

Sorry, in [HTC One V] terms, S-Off not only requires the bootloader to already be unlocked, but then you can also edit the boot, radio and other partitions that are still locked while the bootloader is unlocked.
And that phone number is very helpful, thanks! I'll have to test it Wednesday, when my phone is supposed to arrive
And about building TWRP, I'll do it. I've built several pieces of software for my previous phone, aaaaand I hope it's the same process LOL

You've had a One V? Cool, there's one in the family, still stock, of course.
I think the radio and stuff can be changed even when the bootloader is locked , using Flashtool to flash the firmwares in flash mode. [citation needed] At least the baseband can be changed easily, probably other stuff too.
TWRP has been built for CM10 (actually it's a dual recovery; both CWM and TWRP) by hsr0. Others have been built too, but since our phones have no recovery image, the recovery has to be built into the kernel, and this is the most stable CM10 kernel, I recommend this one. Not sure if there's a stock TWRP, though.

LOL, no. I've just started my first project, and hardly anybody here knows what it is.
Before unlocking your phone's bootloader, be sure to root it (many guides to root it with a locked bootloader here) and backup the TA partition: this partition has some DRM keys that are removed once you unlock the bootloader. I'm not sure what they do, but you can check whether the DRM keys are there or not, so if you take it to Sony, you can reflash TA, unroot, and they'll honour the warranty.

And also make sure, you've got a few ftf files.
In case you want to know in HTC terms: FTFs are like RUUs, but safer to flash - so much that we've been using Xperia E dual's FTF files on the Xperia E single.

I reckon at least another month yet if not longer as even the z1 and z ain't been released yet or even all the z2's been updated.

With a rooted phone and a locked bootloader you most likely won't get the option to do OTA updates (directly from the phone). I don't. Still you'll get the notification about a system update available. Unless of bad bricks PC Companion will always install the latest Android version for your phone, overwriting the whole ROM (and thus the rooting). So just start it on your PC and plug the phone. It will tell you what to do. That applies to Lollipop as well as to any potential KK new update.
If the BL is unlocked you may want to lock it back first. For that you need the backup of the TA partition (which can be done only if you rooted the phone before unlocking the BL). Or best of all you can use Flashtool. It also has an option to download the last FTF (ROM) for each phone model (also different by Country, carrier, etc).
Regarding Lollipop our phone will be the last getting it. And Sony with its updates is unbelievably slow. We'll be lucky if we get it in September.

But still, I got a bit confused (sorry about that - I didn't get much from your second paragraph).
So what I need to do now is just wait until I get the notification update, then connect the device to pc, and do whatever it tells me, right? Do I have to perform a full unroot or something?

The update installation, which via PC Compnion will be the full ROM, will erase the root. Because it clears and rewrites the system partition, where the rooting files are located. No need to do it in advance since PC Companion is also used to rebuild the phone. The small OTAs instead are incremental updates. If they worked root would most likely be still there after updating.

I dunno. They worked for mine before I rooted it. They became unavailable only after rooting. I am just getting the notifications, now. Which having a quota on my Internet is a pain in the arse.
I wonder if there is any FTF repository only for the OTA updates? It would be interesting to see if they get installed via Flashtool. That would save bandwidth and time.
Ota will work until you install supersu and update the binaries and kill Sony RIC. That's how I went from jb 4.3 to 18.3.1.C.1.13 kk (checked with root checker app after each ota to confirm still rooted)to get to 18.3.1.C.1.15 I flashed a pre-rooted zip as that update was pc only for some reason.

it is said this Dirty COW vulnerability is affected almost all Android devices, so is it possible to use this Dirty COW to get a temp root for Xperia XZ ?
Believe me, you are not the only one, who hopes that

Sorry if this is a derail, but what exactly is the point of a temp root? Would you be able to temporarily root the phone, then run something like Adaway, restart ->unroot, but still have all the adblocking capability? Without affecting bootloader and android pay etc?

temp root is for backup TA/drm partition before unlock bootloader, that means you will not lose warranty even unlocked bootloader 'cuz you can restore TA partition any time you want

So I was thinking to do whatever root things I need, like Adaway hosts file patch, TiBu backup/restores, and then reboot to get rid of root.

Old discussions... Just realize there is a very small amount of people needing root. Also on this point you have to discuss the question of security - rooting.

Did you unlock your bootloader to change firmware?
You are now going to need the drmfix for the rest of its life

Ye I unlocked it. It's fine to do the drmfix, but how? I'm out of the flashing and similars since years I don't know how to do this.

Bootloader unlock wasn't needed at all.
Anyway, search XperiFix here on xda, but I don't know if it's ready for xz2 family. Oh, it's a paid solution, about 19€.

Z2 had even more troubles.
Maybe you never noticed, but the camera was really bad after bootloader unlock.

At least it can take pictures, only the preview is black :silly:
Due to the lack of pie support of the pay solution at the moment, you can downgrade your phone to OREO, install the solution, take a picture and upgrade your phone to PIE again.
You need newflasher v13 from XDA and the stock Oreo ROM I uploaded in the TWRP thread.
And a downgrade requires factory reset.
Because of the encryption.
Feel free to ask for help.

And use it a single time in OREO to take a picture.
And you need to backup your userdata before downgrading to Oreo.

Even with magisk hide?
You need magisk (it gives you root) to boot the phone after the twrp installation, because of Android Verified Boot 2.0

Go into my TWRP thread and install TWRP and magisk.
Root your phone, backup your apps with Titanium Backup
Downgrade to the Oreo firmware I uploaded there, use xperifix as DRMfix.
Boot into Oreo, use the camera to take one shot.
Upgrade to PIE and reinstall your apps with Titanium Backup.
Titanium Backup and xperifix costs some €/$
Then wait for xperifix PIE release to get your 100% photo quality back.

I saw your thread, if it's the only solution I'll try it after. I am under Win7 and xperifix is running under win8 and 10. Thanks for responding

It should run under win 7 too
You're welcome
And a DRMfix reactivates every function back, like you never unlocked it.
Hello, I have an xzp with 2 years of work, it is running out of update, it is being abandoned by Sony, so I decided to give it another chance to install a rom with interesting functions. But I know Sony well and that I have the rooted Z5, when you unlock the bootloader there is no going back, all the Sony properties are lost, and they are good properties, I do not want to risk. Is there a way to backup TA before all? The Z5 did allow root before unlocking bl, in my case I lost it because something strange happened.
I am interested in a high refresh rate, I don't know if it will work in LOS 16 or higher, if someone has tried it and it has worked well ...
Two things that I liked about the xzp is its screen and the sound, a ROM like the exisTenz pie(Modified based on firmware) has the quality of the screen or sounds as is the stock?
Regards and thanks in advance

Personal opinion, go with eXistenZ. The other full custom roms have issues. I'm not a gamer and I rarely watch video on my phone but the screen looks great to me. I'm not an audiofile, but I have no complaints as to sound, plus if you root and use Magisk there are sound mods you can install. You will loose some camera functionality but for me not a game changer. I take snapshots with my phone; I take real photographs with my camera. After all I bought it as a phone, not a camera.

You're right, I take snapshots too, with my rooted Z5 it's impossible to focus scenes because the missing DRM key, with that it works correctly (no problem to focus on objects), it's ok. Someways to backup the TA?
There's a thread all about backing up DRM keys. Seems like a whole lot hassle for nothing to me, but search for it and you'll find it.
