Took me a while to find this so I'm posting a link to all the files. I picked up this phone a couple days ago at Best Buy for $20.00 for my mom. I rooted it with Kingroot, and that went fine, but when I tried to use an app called supersu-me-v6.7.apk to switch root to SuperSU, it messed the phone up very badly. It was basically so slow it was unresponsive. So here is the link to the files, it contains the DLL and LGUP and USB Drivers and the dz (kdz) file. If you already have LG UP installed, just install the DLL file and fire up LG UP and point it to the dz file after putting the phone in download mode. You put it in download mode by first powering off the phone, holding down the VOLUME UP button and plugging in the USB cord to the phone from your PC at the same time. Once it's in download mode, just fire up LG UP and go from there. I got these files from the links in the description of the video that shows how to do it and I just extracted the dz and used the password and just 7zip'd all the files without any password needed.

Any luck on using this Boost phone on another network (TMO) ?
I'm more of a Samsung user, but I also bought one of these for my mom because she doesn't like her Win10 Lumia 640 phone for lack of Apps.

Just typed in it's IMEI number into the cricket wireless compatibility page and it took it so... hopefully I can swap her over to Cricket one day using this phone.

I don't think so.. you can also purchase some off eBay. Either way they usually cost $9.99 or less so you're not risking much for what you want to do.

I've found them as low as $4 but I want to use these on TMO (GSM) so I know I'm gonna need to load some other ROM but it appears that many are saying the BL is locked, but I'm wondering about the modem firmware...?

There shouldn't be a reason you need to load another ROM! Just SIM unlock it and use a TMO SIM. As long as the phone physically supports TMO's bands via hardware you'll be fine.

Not sure. I think the tribute 5 is the same as the k7. It was changed to K7 on T-Mobile I think.

Thank you so much for this. Already downloaded. Haven't tested it yet. As soon as I get home I will try it out. I did the same thing you did the day after I got it, but mine wouldn't boot at all. No, different CSC and bootloader. It might boot up, but you will have a load of issues. Not much on this phone, but I did unlock it. About to post a tutorial.

Yes, its prepaid. I'm with Boost Mobile too. Do a speedtest on it. Mine on ATT shows only 3G also. But if you go to Settings/About Phone/Network Status, it says HSPA or HSPAP (+). That is the old 4G, before LTE. I even mentioned that in my tutorial. I was up til 5 in morning writing that thing. As for the Bootloader unlock? Don't hold your breath on that one. Boost Mobile might be Sprint, but they alot more shady and stingy on their devices. Why you think it is so hard to find the firmwares for our LG devices? lol
Here is my tutorial. Works on Boost Mobile LG G Stylo LS770, also.

Yes, thank you for the tutorial. I used it to unlock mine.
I did not see any screenshots on your tutorial though.
I did not try the dial option #.*.. yet.
BUT I am only getting 2Mbps both up and down.
I usually get 10-25Mbps on TMO with my Verizon Note 4.
I was hoping someone would exploit the bootloader just like Beaups did for the Verizon Note 4's, so we can REALLY have some fun with this!

You must of skipped the part in my tutorial where it says you will NOT get LTE. T-mobile and AT&T run on different bands/frequencies than Sprint's Band 25, 26, and 41. The most you will get is HSPA+.
Also, I posted screenshots in the attachments.

Hey I bought a used Samsung Galaxy S 4G for $110, and wanted to make android apps.
I know a lot of programming stuff, but it doesn't seem to help me much to fix this phone.
OKAY THE LIST OF PROBLEMS/SYMPTOMS
-Doesn't register SIM cards, doesn't even notice them! I can't use the phone like this.
-Stuck in airplane mode if I put it in, requires factory reset to get out of.
-Back speaker for music doesn't work. Earbuds work.
-MicroUSB port is fine, charges, but usually won't show up on my computers. It gave me a "USB Malfunction" error two of the times.
-IMEI and baseband show up in phone as "Unknown."
-Voodoo lagfix is installed? My buddy said this phone isn't even supported.
WiFi, MicroSD and apps all work, it seems fine otherwise. Factory resets do not fix it! Even the power+volume buttons one, where I find the voodoo lagfix crap.
I bought it from a girl, and I think her derpbag boyfriend maybe flashed Vibrant's firmware or did something wrong to it. I might have been ripped off.
Can anyone help me out? Know what to do? I will appreciate it!
First thing you can do is follow the second link in my signature and flash with bootloaders. Missing IMIE is a problem only ODIA can fix.
How do I do this without my USB port connection option?

YES You were right, I followed your guide and got the phone to do new things.
It asked me for a SIM card and I haven't put mine in, but the IMEI number is BACK and ready. I didn't flash bootloaders yet, but should I still?
The phone's speaker still doesn't work, maybe I can't save that.
I got lucky, I tried plugging it in maybe 10 times I finally got it in download mode, so that's awesome.
Should I flash bootloaders? And what is the next step to possibly fixing the speaker?
I will probably want to root then unlock to use for my AT&T. I won't get a data plan tacked on this way, right?

If you're already on Gingerbread (You can check by going into settings > about phone) then you don't need to flash bootloaders. If you're on Froyo, then yes flash the bootloaders.
If you want to unlock your phone, click on the "SGS4G Unlocker" link in my forum signature. It'll get you your unlock code, which you can use after you insert an AT&T sim into your phone.
I'm not sure whether they'll tack on the data plan, but if AT&T works like T-Mobile, they'll require customer authorization to add any features to your account.
Well hey AWESOME.
I did flash bootloaders, didn't notice any difference.
THEN I went and tried to unlock it, the sdcard could only be read and not read/write from the Terminal emulator.
So I rooted it even though the root checker said it was rooted, and I did somehow have "superuser" already installed.
Now I also unlocked it afterwards, and it's working with my SIM and phone contacts. I sent a text and it's too late to call anyone today, but I'm expecting it to work fine tomorrow.
Your guide was fantastically helpful and easy to follow. Thanks a lot man!
The back speaker doesn't seem to work still, but I'm still counting it as a victory.
I recommended flashing bootloaders as a precautionary measure. Yes - you were already rooted. Glad you are up and running.
Maybe you can try replacing the loudspeaker if you cannot get it to work:
http://www.globaldirectparts.com/Sa...-T959V-Loud-Speaker-Module-p/smsng6103100.htm
As for the AT&T thing, they can't find out that you are using smart phone since they don't have T-Mobile's list of IMEIs, so they won't automatically charge you with a smartphone plan. Also, if you previously had a 3G data plan with that AT&T SIM card you are good. However, if you don't, you need to turn off packet data and roaming at Settings --> Wireless and Networks --> Mobile Networks.

I gave my old Samsung Galaxy S 4G phone that I had on T-Mobile to my girlfriend and unlocked it through t-mobile to be able to use it on her AT&T network. She placed her AT&T sim card in the phone and I unlocked it. The phone works fine but it will not go past "Edge" speed, is this due to the different network frequencies or is there anything else there can be done so she can get 3g at least? Would I have to Root the phone to be able to do so or is there any other easier ways to go about it? Thanks in advance for your help.

I switched to AT&T to get the HTC One X, but I hated that phone (but it had a nice camera), so I got the AT&T Galaxy Note.
I unlocked my SGS4G so I could use it on AT&T to test radio changes, but also I noticed that I only got edge. If I go outside on a really sunny day sometimes I see it get hspa, but I don't think t-mobile phones can get 4G on AT&T's network.
I would expect at most getting edge. The ONE time I did see the phone go to hspa, I still didn't see xfer rates increase. It was slow as hell.
I think the answer is finding the right modem.bin. Our radio device is a little different then the other galaxy s phones, and most of the ones that use this same modem are on t-mobile. I'm hoping to find another phone that uses the same modem on at&t.

Yeah, I just recently moved to AT&T bringing this phone. It shows a 3g status but seems to be as fast as it was on T-Mo but depending on the location. My wife has the same device on T-Mo and we drove from Chicago to Florida finding that usually one of us had a signal.
The visual voicemail isn't available from AT&T on this phone but the basic v/m works
I need help on unlocking my SGS4G for AT&T. Every time I try the app method, it either returns the code as "null" or has some busybox error. And the hexcode method doesn't work because mobile terminal can't find the file on my phone. I am running Beanstalk 4.4 ROM, and it is rooted. How can I unlock it?

Try going back to BML and unlocking there as the methods that you'll find on this forum are more reliable that way.
This is one of the free methods I have:

I've read countless posts on here saying that was just a kernel... Thanks for the correction
@champ1919 is correct, BML refers to stock touchwiz roms. I recommended that because although I don't own this phone anymore, I wrote the unlock script a while back and I know it works fine on stock roms if you install busybox from google play, after rooting the phone.
Once your phone is unlocked, any newer roms you install will keep the unlock and if you decide to go back to stock after THAT, your phone will still remain unlocked.

This seems like the most sure fire way of going about this, I haven't had time to do it yet but I think I'll go with stock then unlock.
EDIT: (2-16-2014- This appears to only work if the ATT note 3 is on MI9 firmware. If it has been upgraded to MJ5 firmware, RegionLock away is NOT working at the moment on MJ5 and newer firmware as of today.)
Ok, I'm a longtime lurker here. This is my first tutorial so bear with me.
I received an AT&T Note 3. I was able to unlock and use this phone on T-mobile. I want to send out a big thanks to designgears and chainfire. Without their tools, I would not have been able to do this.
Here are the steps I took:
1. I rooted using Root de la Vega. I wanted to make sure I didn't trip the KNOX counter. I found this link on one of designgears's XDA post.
http://androidxda.com/root-samsung-galaxy-note-3-sm-n900a The rooting tutorial on that page is very good.
2. After I rooted and confirmed that I didn't trip the KNOX counter, I proceeded to install chainfire's app. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.chainfire.regionlockaway
The following steps I got from this link http://androidfannetwork.com/2013/10/06/sim-unlock-t-mobile-note-3-for-free/
But I modified them because I am going from an ATT Note 3 to use on Tmobile.
3. Put the ATT SIM (unactivated, unregistered) that came in the box into the Note 3
4. Install RegionLock Away app
5. Run the app, and instead of rebooting say Reboot Later (THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT)
6. Power off the Note 3
7. Take out the ATT SIM and replace it with T-Mobile SIM
8. Turned on the device – BOOM! no Region Lock, and NO SIM Lock.
Drawbacks so far, I am not sure if my phone is truly on LTE. Something tells me I am only on HSPA+. Hopefully somebody can tell me how to unlock Tmobile LTE on this phone. It took me a little tinkering, but I was able to get data and mms working. I am in a refarmed area of TMobile. When I used to have a Nexus 4, I was able to access LTE from my house with a custom rom. So far, the speedtests on my note 3 are comparable to the speeds on my nexus 4 with LTE. Also, I know if I update my phone, I may lose the sim unlock. For anybody interested in which APN settings I did, I posted screen shots at the following link. http://imgur.com/a/yQiJK If you have any questions, or know how to unlock AWS on this phone for true LTE, let me know.
Just an update, in case anybody is actually reading my post. I believe my phone is truly on tmobile LTE. I ran tests in areas I know have been refarmed by tmobile. Also in my settings, under mobile network type, it says LTE. Can somebody with more knowledge confirm if this is all correct? here's the link http://imgur.com/a/2IBzA

I don't need to mess with the Region Lock stuff, but I wanted to thank someone with only 8 posts for taking the time to document their results and share them with everyone.
First off, thank you very much for your documented steps.
I am about to undergo this whole process sometime early next week, although I am still unsure about whether I will end up going with t-mobile or whether I will try out metro pcs. I know you're not on metro but do you know if the steps would be largely the same? I'm tempted to try getting an unlock straight from AT&T for the phone but I'm not sure if they would be willing.
Thanks for posting these steps! Quick question, though...
When I try to add the new APN for T-Mobile, the APN disappears when I change the MNC from 410 to 260. I can save all of the other options but once I modify the MNC it gets deleted from the phone. Anyone know what might be happening here?

Hmm, I'm not sure. Did you create a new APN? or are you editing the one that is already there? After activating my phone, I'm assuming my phone created an apn from the network. But the one my phone auto created wasn't giving me mms or LTE. So I just created a new one.

Same issue here, USB tethering is OK, but wifi tethering doesn't work

So I followed your guide trying to get the note 3 on metro, my girlfriend got me the phone with her upgrade and when I requested at&t for an unlock through the website it told me I was ineligible, the phone came in an ATT box with an unactivated sim, when I put that in I get "phone not allowed MM#2". When I try my metropcs sim I get "phone not allowed MM#6", I also tried activating the phone with her at&t sim which says my phone has already been activated and works with no problems. I have an at&t N900A

WIFI tethering is blocked by tmobile. the only way to get it working is to install a rom that has hacked wifi tethering. I installed Jedi Elite V5 rom from this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2493795
using this method.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2554411
And then i used this app foxfi
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.foxfi&hl=en
Now WIFI tethering works for me.

Look at my previous post, it tells the steps on how to get wifi tethering working.
U only need the att sim card to get the phone to turn on. After the phone is on and u can access the play store, then insert your metro pcs sim card. Go to Google play store and install region away app. Follow rest of my instructions after that.

Thanks for the guide! Can you guys tell me if tmobile identifies the att note 3 on your "mytmobile" or does it say unidentified device? I'm asking because those of us on the old tzones internet plans are limited to certain devices we are able to use. Thanks in advance.

Actually, I am still on tzones too. My att note 3 works fine with tzones. I get LTE and it works great. Here's a screen shot showing speeds I got with it.

disconnected
i just had my att note 3 disconnected from att i had it unlocked and now i have a tmobile sim. i have not installed. i am wondering will these methods still work. if so do i follow steps or is there a thread i need to go to thanks
Should this method be working for a T-Mobile Note 3 (N900T) with a Straight Talk sim card?
I used the "easy" root on kingoapp.com since the root de la vega seemed over my head. It says that my phone was rooted properly. I then followed the steps with an unactivated t-mobile sim, installed and ran region lock away, chose reboot later, turned off, then put in the straight talk sim but I still get a sim error.
Do I need to re-root using the CF Auto Root? I downloaded the root checker app and it says that I have root access...
worked flawlessly
Thank you very much - worked flawlessly! First time doing anything like this coming from sprint Iphone 4s. I researched endlessly for one week before even considering going through this. I used RDLV root method along with your tutorial and not one error along the way. i'll be sure to frequent this forum going forward.

can some one please help me....i purchased an unlocked former sprint lg g flex 2 from ebay to use with my gsm sim card.
I have used the phone for 10 days without any problem but from nowwhere today it just showed invalid card.
when i reinsert the sim,it detects the sim for about 10 min and then brings a pop up on the screen saying "the phone ll reboot until you insert a valid sim card"then it reboots and stays on invalid sim.
Tried a different sim it also works for roughly 5 min and then does the same thing.
I have tried hard reset,factory reset,rebooting it and everything that i found on google but nothing works,still stack on "INVALID CARD"
Any help please i ll appreciate!

Best thing to do is return it. Never buy a sprint device for use on GSM carriers. Only buy a sprint device if you intend on using it on Sprint.

No clue. Getting it to work can be difficult or could be easy. But it's just not a reliable device to use on GSM carriers.
Did you make sure network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE?
If so your best bet is to check out this thread not sure if it still applies https://forum.xda-developers.com/g-flex2/general/sprint-g-flex-2ls996-gsm-domestic-t3122813

Just unrooting wouldn't solve the issue. The device was most likely rooted with changes to make it work with a gsm carrier. That phone in its stock state won't work on any other carrier at all besides sprint.

You should be able to since it's updating. But updating will actually make it to where you won't ever be able to use it.
You have more of a chance getting it working with a GSM carrier while rooted than not.
The issue your facing is not a problem, it's supposed to say that when inserting a non Sprint sim in the sprint device.
Remember that model has to be tampered with to make it work on a GSM carrier. It's not supposed to work on a non sprint carrier without things being changed.

Broken Antenna
I've had my LG G Flex 2 for a little over a year and this happened to me.
SOLUTION: The antenna is most likely broken and needs to be replaced. The lady at sprint said it is common with this phone so I'll try to figure out how to do that.

Yeah but your using the device on sprint? These users are not. They're using it on a GSM network outside of the US this issue is over the software not hardware.

I've been trying so I can convert my MetroPCS one to T-Mobile. I've been checking daily for an update.
Got a T-Mobile link. Enjoy.

How do you convert it from MetroPCS to T-Mobile and what are the benefits?
Reason I'm asking is I am looking to pick this phone up this weekend.
Thanks

It's actually pretty easy.
Wipe your device first to ensure there aren't any compatibility issues.
Then make sure you have LG USB drivers installed, and download the firmware I posted as well as this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/v20/how-to/guide-patch-lgup-to-unlock-features-t3652222
Run the LG UP in there and select "Partition DL." Select the T-Mobile firmware to the file path area, and put the phone into download mode. Flash the phone. Once that is done, then boot your phone and wipe it once you're at the home screen. If you see that the available storage is something weird (like a negative number or only 8GB) then load the LG UP again, boot the phone into DL mode and then select "Refurbish" and load the T-Mobile firmware again. Once it boots, do a wipe from the phone, and you should be all set.
Also, if you get hit with the secure start up password, just put random characters in 30 times to wipe the phone clean. The tries have to be more than a few characters to register so keep that in mind.
Note: I have no idea how this will affect OTAs. If anyone has an idea, please let us know.
No benefits to flashing, I just have a T-Mobile SIM and like when it meshes up. It looks like the MA and TA versions of the phone get updated at the same time anyway.
Update: I got the latest update OTA from T-Mobile. The Q7 is now on September 1, 2018 security.
Benefits
So is there any benefits to switching to the T-Mobile version? I just swapped from Sprint to MetroPCs and went with Q7+
Edit: er, nevermind... I just saw someone's explanation above abt having a SIM. Don't see a delete option
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Yeah, why? I got a Q7 from Metro ~3 wk ago and am really happy with the upgrade from my Aristo. (Except there seems to be no option to root yet, which, I admit, is a big one)
What would be the advantage of converting it to T-Mob? Personally I got kinda mad @ T-Mob's financing setup & I like the Metro benefits like G1 & Prime. It took a little effort to get the Q7 deal since T-Mob owns Metro, but it can be done
I think I found a benefit but not 100%. The metro version has widevine l3 which prevents from streaming in hd quality on anything such as Netflix. From what I heard this is purely software and the TMobile one allows it, would.be great if one of you that flashed can confirm. This app will tell you https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.androidfung.drminfo
I wait on a reply to this as well. He'll im considering opening app on demo phone at tmobile lol
So I have successfully installed Tmobile
Firmware in my metro pcs Q7+ and it runs alot smoother and more responsive without all of the bloatware. Alot happier with phone now buy widevine is still Version 3. From what i know LG would of had to jump thru more hoops to certify a better encryption before they could even entertain the idea of vs one
I have a T-Mobile Q7+ and it also is widevine l3.
It's security update time for the LG Q7+. Now I'm supposing it's for metro which service I use but recently flashed a T-Mobile firmware which is why I have the message from TMobile
