Push Notification of Facebook Official App Not Working - General Questions and Answers

I use Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SM-N910C that is rooted and running official marshmallow. All was going well for 6-7 months. But suddenly I am not getting push notification from the facebook app for the last month. The only time I am getting push notification from the facebook app when I try to login from another browser and a code is needed from code generator. Push notification from other apps, email, instagram etc are working. I have tried clearing data of the app, turning off platform, uninstalling greenify. Butnothing worked. What to do now? Please help.

Hi there so generally the facebook app is unliked around here because it takes up a huge amount of RAM. Many people here prefer to use an alternate client for facebook I've heard of some I think you should try some out if you feel you have done everything to activate push notifications. Here is a rddit link in case you are wondering about some opinions https://www.reddit.com/r/androidapps/comments/3k2ol0/facebook_app_alternative/

actually nothing can deliver like the official app

I wouldn't now since I don't really use Facebook. Have you tried restoring a backup through titanium or some fashion?

yup bro

There actually might be a setting that might have to do with this however we could have a better idea if you tried using the Facebook app on another device. Have you tried doing that?

No, I don't have another android device. When I use swipe pro, push notification works in that app. and in facebook app itself, for code generator notification and someone is live notification, push notification works immediately. Someone told me that this is facebook's problem. He faced the same problem. After his reporting for 2 times to facebook, they resolved it some days later.

Then you should probably contact Facebook if its a problem on their end that way you can now for sure if you can fix it.

safely rm stock gmail app(possible google sign in error fix? dcv1)

I personally see no point in it, as the mail app covers all the basis, and the gmail app doesnt come with a widget...but I have a google branded phone, and could completely understand why I couldnt delete it (like how the IM app and the market are somehow closely related, and the deletion of one screws the other over) as it may cause issues.
On another note, is there a list somewhere that has all the apps safe to remove?
Damage V1
Rming with Root Explorer
EDIT
After following the advice of a responder to my original question, I moved the gmail.apk and gmailprovider.apk to my sd card, then removed them completely from system/app. I have rebooted, found no errors (downloaded an app from the market as a test, and also emailed myself) and most importantly, for the first time, have not had to resign into my google account upon reboot. Dont know if it was luck or wat, but Ive had to resign in everytimw (not a big de, but other then the intermitent lights, its the only bug Ive found with dcv1)
Im sure most of you are satisfied with the gmail app, but I personally prefer the mail app, as you can link more than one account and it has the widget. Ive noticed no delay in recieving or sending or any error outside of the mail/gmail app. Thought you all might be interested in knowing my findings

All 17 pages of 'Apps Safe To Remove' talked nothing of gmail, other than how rming other apps effected Gmail; the search function brought up no answers, unless I missed something (which is very possible )
Id appreciate your help.
Try moving it and not completely removing it? Then if the phone crashes/wont work, you can move it back to it's proper location through recovery..?
I've never wanted to remove the stock gmail app, since the standard app doesn't requires checking of email, whereas the gmail app is a push email (I think?) I get notifications of gmail faster on my phone than I do on my PC.

Thanks for the speedy response.
I searched that thread, and every other one that came one while searching "remove gmail" but found nothing of use. I am fully aware of how to remove it, Im simply curious as to whether or not its SAFE to remove.
Thanks again

The email is delivered to your phone real time, as opposed to polling on a chedule (i.e. every 30 minutes).

The gmail servers notify your phone when you have a new email, instead of the phone polling the servers for new email (that is pull)
Saves battery life as your phone can sit idle and wait for google servers to tell it to get mail.

Have you guys tried using Exchange ActiveSync in the mail app for Gmail, this will make it push rather then pull. I believe you need to use m.google.com as the server, and change the frequency to "as items arrive".
Is the sign in thing really annoying? it only happens when you go to airplane mode or reboot. I dont think its a big deal it dont effects me at least

Perfection! I thank you most kindly.
Now all we need is to get the trackball working, and dcv1 will be TRUELY 100%.

Just a heads up, I still get the sign in error after I removed both apk's. I got it after rebooting and putting the phone into airplane mode.
Good attempt at trying to resolve the issue though!

Then you might just be screwed. Current speculation is that the trackball thing is intentional. If you check...whenever you get e-mail or a text message the trackball lights up. This behavior is quite possibly intended and a possible change for the 'official' 2.1 ROMs.

I can confirm that this is not a fix. I've had gmail deleted for weeks now (using k9 for pushing work and personal email) and I've still been getting the sign-in notification.
I was also thinking you need that for the market.

Facebook notifications

ok coming from a blackberry to Android I have to say the Facebook app sucks when ever I get a notification ,yes it appear but it doesn't notify me on a comment and when I do open it it opens in the web browser. what's up with this its just stupid, the blackberry app was much better than this it would open the Facebook app when you opened the notification. is there any plan In the pipe line to improve this or even any mods I can use to improve this? sorry for any grammar typed on my phone in under 2 mins LOL.
There are some 3rd party facebook apps. Babbler (paid and Lite) and Bloo. I haven't really tried them so I don't know how good they are.
just downloading now will update on what its like
that's the perfect app takes a little setting up but if your having problems just ask me and ill be more than happy to give you a hand
Which app did you try? I downloaded Babbler Lite after replying and I like it much better than the official app. I haven't decided if it's worth getting the paid version yet though.
yeah im using babble lite its much better than normal Facebook I think I might buy full version just to support the devs who have made such a great app
Yeah, I'm thinking I'll end up buying this app. It's definitely the best FB app I have used.
setup
im having trouble setting up babbler, i have the full version. when i log in through babbler it just stays on the same screen that says babbler for android or something.
can someone help ?
thanks

ok well I did it thru the browser I had to go to the application thru Facebook on the browser (just search babbler on Facebook) and accept it and all then go to the application on your device and accept some more and then it all worked hope this help. they really need to sort this out this is the only big downfall with this app. anyway any problems anyone just pm me
Actually, I didn't have to go through the browser at all. I think the issue is that you have to scroll all the way to the bottom on the screen that seems to be just sitting there. At the bottom you will see the allow button.
thanks got it working.
i hope there is an update to the official facebook app for android so its like the one for the iphone which is pretty much perferct.

yeah you just need to wait till people begin to use android and it will begin to get the updates, i mean look at iphone apps there amazing cause that is THE thing atm, and blackberries also have a good following so the apps for that are normally ok, but as android is getting bigger and better ( imho its alredy the best) the apps will come rolling in like they did for the iphone/ipad

Seems like whatsapp is serious into getting onto our phones

Those in the whatsapp beta for Android should update your software ASAP, because they just put in push functionality for everyone with a 2.2 phone. Is this the only software so far not from google to actually use the 2.2 push function? (C2DM and the likes do not count)

It doesn't poll like the old version anymore, and after some testing, I am getting my messages a little faster, because there is usually a 10-20 second delay when the app is sleeping, but this time it's like a 2-3 second after my friend sends me the text via whatsapp.
ahh right so there would be better battery life too??
Is the beta app available? Have they mentioned a release date?
Thanks

Whatsapp is probably one of the most useful apps for someone coming from a blackberry and misses BBMs. The difference is the speed but the main upside is that it's crossplatformed. Also the app is good for people that travel and have an open wifi spot. Free messaging to friends back home is well worth it.

Nope, but it should be within the next few months, it's already very stable other than some of the extra stuff like backgrounds, etc.

Yeah, since I have quite a few friends with an iphone and BB, I'm able to send them messages via my data plan.
AppBrain's Fastweb Installer uses C2DM too for installation of applications from your PC browser.
Anything that uses C2DM is immediately interesting, I'll check it out!

It's not using the same type of 2.2 push unfortunately.
hows it different?
EDIT: also seems like there are sometimes big delays between messages. whatsapp keeps disconnecting in the new version
I had to revert back to an older verison I believe. Newest version yesterday kept logging me off also and messages were stalled until I sent one out then they'd all come in.
Looked on the changelog and they took off the "Push Notifications"
Currently running: v1.0.6138
I'm using whatsapp on 2.1. working pretty well so far. ... thinking of getting 2.2 but no sense UI ROM for hero yet.
can we have a link to the apps apk?
Aww man, they removed push notifications via C2DM and the reason was they need to give google a quota? I have no idea what that means.
http://beta.whatsapp.com/test/7/WhatsApp.html
* google push disabled -- we need quota from google
really, what's the difference/advantage of using C2DM. i dont understand what's going on in the background.
Yepp.... just downloaded the APK from the link provided above... You can download and install it, but when it asks for your display name, you will get a message that says "Unauthorized beta user, DO NOT E-MAIL US", or something like that.
That's too bad because I loved it on my BB to chat with my iPhone friends, you would think that it would be easier and faster to create an app for Android and it would already be out in the market !!
it works!! everyone gets that message just wait till tommorrow and try again and it will work. Heaps of people have had success using this method. dont give up so easily
updated yesterday and they've been approved for the push notification via GOOGLE's c2dm.
Only thing i've noticed is that the app unlike iPhone's version doesn't time out while it's in the background. So it seems like you're always logged in. This could be corrected by a task manager app to kill the app but once you receive a new message it auto logs you on and double check marks the message as read.

[How To] Fix push notifications in the official Facebook app

Hey guys,
So, you know that official Facebook app is supposed to have push notifications, right? Yeah? Well, it apparently does, they just never worked for me at all. Turns out, there's a fix, and it's quite the strange one - you have to sign into the Facebook app on a Blackberry. Once you've done that, you'll start getting push notifications for wall posts, comments, and event invites, with an entirely new notification icon. Weird, no?
Of course, it's not like I had a recent BB device just lying around.. Thankfully, the Blackberry emulator software, available from RIM's site, works just fine for our purposes. I've written up a guide for the curious, with links to the emulator downloads and so forth.
Seems the fix was found in May over at AndroidCentral, but I'd certainly not seen it posted anywhere I frequent, and had to spend some time searching for a fix to stumble across the post - hence this topic.
Let me know if it works for you.
I saw this a while ago. I stopped by an at&t store, used a display blackberry, and yes, it works beautifully!

That only has options to enable email notifications, nothing else. Am I missing something?
As a separate issue, I can't get these push notifications working in the first place. My settings have the Blackberry app listed, I don't know what is going wrong.
I've NEVER received notifications from facebook until now!! My phone just came alive and notifications started to flow. The Blackberry trick works.
One thing though, I had to open the Options dialog during BB Facebook app and check the "Blackberry notifications" option.

[Q] email app destination prediction

Before the upgrade to Lollipop the email application would predict destinations based on emails received, even if I didn't have them in my contacts.
For instance If I received a mail from someone new called "John Doe" even if I didn't have it in my contacts. If I started a new mail and started typing in the To: "Joh... I would get a suggestion for this guy address or similar ones, including the matching contacts in my contact list.
Is there any way to retrieve this behaviour? Why has Sony/Google remove such thing? In a day to day work environment is very annoying to have to add every single person I receive emails from to my contact list.
Thanks in advance!
It is not removed. And always after a major upgrade it is best to do a factory reset.
Seriously that's the only option?
We have several cases in the office, including boss, and I'd like to keep android, but if what you say is true... sounds very unreliable for work.

Give it a try, crossing from KK to L is a major firmware upgrade. A factory reset is necessary.
My email app works great, all the functions.
It is not unreliable, it's a must, after that it will be ok.
So I recommend a clean install.
P.S.
You can try to go to Settings : Apps : All : Email - and clear data, before you follow my first advice.
Thanks for the advice, if it works for you, certainly worth a try, at lease clearing data, even if I have to configure all the accounts again )

sorry for the delay, as I had the testing mobile getting fixed. As you say it works, or so it does with a mobile recently reset to factory status.
Thanks again for your time.
Now I'm into trying to find how to make whatsapp not using the lolillpop semi-drop down notifications, just to show with the icon in the notification bar as it did in kitkat (lollipop changed many things indeed).

It's really the new "heads-up" notification method in lollipop, that is mandatory with no way to disable it unless you use a modded solution.
Problem is our phone has little modding yet. Will keep an eye for options.
