I was having a problem with my Moto G XT1033 yesterday as most apps get closed automatically at launch. this morning i installed AVG to do a scan, i also used Root file manager to clean up some files (junks, duplicates etc)
I then did a restart after which my phone will not boot to home screen again.
It boots up showing the boot animation bout after that i get a black blank screen which back light on.
Things i have tried
did cache partition wipe
did wipe/restore
all to no avail
I then downloaded a stock ROM from Blur_Version.221.21.56.falcon_umtsds.AsiaRetail.en.03.zip
downloaded minimal ADB and fastbook.
- put the phone to fastboot
- on android system recovery mode i clicked apply update from ADB
then on PC i confirmed it can see my phone by typing adb devices, my phone get listed.
I then do adb sideload Blur_Version.221.21.56.falcon_umtsds.AsiaRetail.en.03.zip
Finding update package.........
Opening update package........
Verifying update package........
Installing update..........
Then i get Package expects build fingerprint of motorola/falcon_asia_ds/falcon_umtsds:5.0./LXB22.46-28/30:user/release-keys or motorola/falcon_asia_ds/falcon_umtsds:5.1/PB23.13-56:user/release-keys; this device has motorola/falcon_asia_ds/falcon_umtsds:5.1/LPBS

Firstly, I would like to point out that your phone is merely soft-bricked. Hard bricks are much more serious and happen when your phone does not turn on at all. So, in future, please do not complain about a hard brick where there is none.
Onto the actual issue, it appears to be an easy fix. The problem was simply that you were attempting to sideload an OTA update, as opposed to flashing full firmware, which will not work. So all you need to do is flash the full factory firmware using fastboot flash, not adb sideload. To do this, flash factory firmware from here using the fastboot commands linked on that thread.

I have a Moto G X1032 rooted with TWRP installed. I've been using the stock firmware for 4.4.2 without any issues for a while, but after June 6th's OTA update to 4.4.3, my phone has gotten stuck in a boot loop. It turns on and runs Android as usual, without any issues, for less than a minute and then shuts down. It then continues to boot back up and continue the process. The only way to stop the loop is to boot into the bootloader from TWRP and power off the phone from there. Luckily I have a backup to that reverts me back to 4.4.2, which successfully stops the loop. But after several attempts to update to 4.4.3, it has become quite clear that this boot loop is inevitable unless I stick with 4.4.2. I read an article that seems to address some conflict with rooted phones and 4.4.3, but I'm not quite sure what the conflict is. Can anyone explain to me why this boot loop is most likely happening, what I could do to fix it, or if it is even possible to have a rooted X1032 with 4.4.3 installed? Any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Are you saying you tried to install the OTA with TWRP installed and not the stock recovery?
Just go into recovery clear all cache, kavik cache that should do

The bootloop is caused by the recovery. It can't update 4.4.3 and keeps trying. Start the update again and let the OTA file download, then copy it out of /cache and into the sdcard. If it's not in cache it won't bootloop. I suggest flashing PhilZ recovery and updating with that instead. Flash the file in the sdcard and post whatever errors are listed...

Thank you. I will try that. Before I do though, do you know of any places I could find 4.4.3 online, so I could just download it from my PC and flash it over via sideload? I usually prefer to flash things that way, rather than straight from the phone.

Yes. This is my first time doing so, excuse my lack of knowledge on the subject. In retrospect, I suppose I should have known there must be a different method with which I install it. Secretkloud gave me a good suggestion though. Is there a reason in particular as to why I can't do OTA updates with custom recovery installed?

I just downloaded the zip from my phone and flashed it from Phillz recovery. It worked very well and the update was successful. Thanks for pointing me to Phillz recovery by the way. It's the only functional recovery image that allows me to mount the sdcard.

Copy the one you have in your phone onto your PC. Smallest chance of error if you do it that way...
it's not easy getting out of the loop.
I did a factory reload of a rooted phone with CWM.
Now for the CWM issue the Moto G loaded OK and then said there was an update for android to fix some bugs. This was 4.4.3. I loaded it and it gets half way and it then says
"Signature verification fail"
at the bottom of the screen and
" Install Untrusted Package"
The options are yes, no or go back
at the top....
whichever one I try it then tries to boot shows the Android / Motorola screen and starts up gets a txt message for 2-3 seconds... it then goes back to Android CWM recovery with the same options as above and repeats the process. again and again and again. No function keys will stop this cycle which just repeats again. This continues until the battery dies.
any ideas ? how can I override this action in CWM v6.0.4.6 and force it to do a factory reload ? any help or advice much appreciated.
If you can still power your phone, can you still access the boot loader? If so, I would suggest using adb from a computer to flash Phillz recovery. CWM always gave me a lot of random errors when flashing items. You could use PhillZ to flash the stock ROM for 4.4.2. After that, just follow the same process I did. Download the update zip via the OTA download when it prompts you. Once it's finished, DON'T boot back into Android. Boot into Phillz recovery from the boot loader, move the zip out of the cache and onto sdcard or your computer, and then flash it either straight from the phone or by sideloading it from your computer. Then you'll have a working version of vanilla 4.4.3, and you can flash over a custom ROM in the future if you so choose.

unfortunately I can't get into bootloader. I can connect usb and it makes no difference. therefore adb commands dont work. it just goes straight into screen described with those three options. I'm hoping that there is an override action in CWM which isn't power and volume down which do nothing.
thanks for the suggestion tho. it was a good idea.
Hm... Without access to the boot loader, I'm not sure there's much of anything you can do anymore... You've completely lost the ability to communicate any sort of commands to your phone save for the 3 options that menu provides. I assume that what CWM is trying to do is install the zip from your cache and is failing to do so. The only viable option would be to flash a new recovery image and install the zip manually, but that's impossible for you given your current circumstances. I would give up looking for an override command for CWM, your best hope is to find an alternative means with which you can access your boot loader. I suggest you start a thread dedicated to your issue and see if a more experienced user can provide you with the information you need. Sorry, I hope you get the help you need. :/

Help Please!!! I need help reloading my Moto G 2013. I had android 5.0.1 running on it but I was not able to perform a device wipe. I read somewhere that encrypting and decrypting could be a workaround, so I decided to do that. Encrypting took less than 10 mins and the hone got stuck in a restart loop. So I tried flashing it with ADB and now I get the android man laying fat with the red triangle. I am guessing no more operating system.
I have tried making use of adb to load the rom but I keep getting the error no device found. I have tried every single process online. It is the google play edition xt1032 I have.
Thank you.

That red triangle android robot is stock recovery. There should be a hardware key combination to wipe cache try searching on google. If all else fails then reboot to bootloader by using hardware key combination and perform a factory reset using fastboot.
Thank you for the help. I was able to get it fixed by flashing TWRP and the sideloading 4.4.4 on the phone. But I noticed the screen flickers for the first few minutes the phone is on. I also tried to update to 5.0.1 via OTA but after download, the phone restarted and instead of installing the 5.0.1, it booted to TWRP recovery. I want to know if I follow the instructions on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219, will I be able to remove the TWRP and have my stock recovery back and then be able to update via OTA. Also, I noticed I still cannot do a factory reset, the phone just restarts and everything remains the same.

In order to do any factory resets or ota you must have stock recovery installed or else android cannot communicate properly with recovery for commands and such.
Ok. Thank you. I have reloaded to stock firmware and done an OTA update to 5.0.1.

Hi guys,
I have a Moto G XT1039 (peregrine) 4.4.4
I unlocked bootloader, flashed Clockwork recovery and rooted.
Tried to flash Cyanogen but failed so went back to 4.4.4 and after updating Motorola Update Services tried to install 5.1 but failed again. Tried reflashing stock firmware and recovery but it still failed to update to 5.1. Maybe I got the wrong stock firmware, EU as opposed to GB...
Anyway, tried to flash 5.1 with XT1039_PEREGRINE_RETGB_5.1_LPB23.13-17_cid7_CFC.xml.zip using the following method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
All looked good but after reboot it was stuck on Warning Bootloader Unlocked screen.
I'm now back in fastboot screen and tried again to use the above method but this time for XT1039_RET-GB-SS_4.4.4_KXB21.14-L1.56-1_cid7_CFC_1FF.xml.zip as this appears to be the correct firmware for my phone.
But in cmd I keep getting 'mfastboot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
What can I do to get my phone working again?
Thanks in advance
Just realised I forgot to get the mfastboot... will try again.
Repeated the steps but with the 4.4.4 zip. It looked like a fail at first (had a dead green dalek with an exclamation mark in a red triangle on the screen) but after some waiting it started showing some signs of life and eventually booted up. The only problem is it has like a shockwave line constantly traveling down the screen. Any ideas why and how to fix it?
Repeated the flashing process once more with XT1039_RET-GB-SS_4.4.4_KXB21.14-L1.56-1_cid7_CFC_1FF.xml.zip but this time added mfastboot oem lock begin in front of other commands.
Didn't solve the line accross the screen but was able to download and install the 5.1 through the official channel.
All sorted now.
Was good talking to self
Over and out
So I've been running rooted stock for a while and decided to try out blisspop. After a few days I decided to return to stock, partly because I read about the 3.1.1 update coming out. I downloaded the 3.1 full OTA, flashed it with TWRP and all was fine. Things started to get wonky when I got home the other night and decided to update the controller( I hadn't done it after the 3.1 update rolled out). The controller wouldn't update and the tablet kept freezing up. Then the download for the 3.1.1 update showed up and of course I didn't flash it because I wasn't stock. Then I started getting google play services errors and I couldn't do a thing so I did a factory reset. During the setup process it keeps freezing up during 'Checking connection'. I can forget the network, go through the setup and get to the home screen but then I have no icons. I can restart the tablet and the the default icons appear where I can then connect to my wifi network but I can't add a google account(keep getting google services errors)(I enter my email address to add the account, hit 'next' and it freezes up). The weird things is this even happens when I reboot to bootloader and
fastboot erase system
fastboot erase userdata
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase cache
and then
fastboot flash recovery {dir}/recovery.img
fastboot flash boot {dir}/boot.img
fastboot flash system {dir}/system.img
fastboot flash userdata {dir}/userdata.img
fastboot flash staging {dir}/blob
fastboot flash dtb {dir}/tegra124-tn8-p1761-1270-a04-e-battery.dtb
This is of course after downloading the recovery image(3.1 found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/general/stock-recovery-images-ota-library-guides-t2988881) and verifying the md5 so I know everything is good. The really wierd thing is, I have none of these problems if I get back into the bootloader, flash TWRP, reboot into recovery and then flash bliss, gapps, and reboot.
Does this make sense to anyone?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Update: I went through the same process and flashed the stock 2.2.2 recovery image. Same results, I cannot add a google account but I can connect to my wifi network. Right now it's downloading the 3.1.1 update, so we'll see in a bit.

All is good. I still have no idea what I screwed up.
After using the fastboot erase commands, and then flashing TWRP, I noticed some messages in twrp about not being able to mount /system, /data, etc. So who knows? So I tried to flash blisspop again and I ended up in a loop booting into twrp again and again.
So I erased everything again, flashed twrp, booted to recovery and formatted internal storage. I flashed the full 3.1.1 OTA, rebooted and my world is beautiful again(no google play services errors).
Hopefully these posts help someone, if some sense can be made of them.

Man this helped me out tremendously!!! I think just the steps to manually erase each partition (if thats what they're called) is what ended up helping me. I had to do it twice for it to work properly but it worked! And I'm pretty sure I tried everything the past few days. I wasn't having the same problem as you. My tablet was stuck on the nvidia boot screen after trying to flash stock recovery. Thought I bricked my device for a couple days. Thanks for posting!

Me neither
Hello everyone,
The starting situation is the Google Pixel of my mother was stuck on android 8.0. While showing there was an update available, the update would always fail to install after the reboot in the process. I found advice to factory reset the phone and then update, but this didn't help.
So my first thought was, if the update won't install the normal way I will do it manually. Google OTA installation guide says, get file (latest), reboot to recovery, plug in to USB, choose apply update by adb.
At this point the guide loses me, because the recovery screen I get to only lists reboot, reboot bootloader, simlock tool and device info tool (see picture). The device info will only tell "failed to update device info". The simlock tool just says "failed to enable simlock". Further while on this screen the phone isn't visible as an ADB device any more.
Next thing to try cause this didn't work was getting the image file (latest) from Google and flashing it through fastboot flash all, which led to a boot loop and the phone not starting at all. So I went and flashed back to the android 8 that was on it before and the phone booted again, but I'm still not any step further.
Next idea was maybe the recovery is broken somehow, so I went to install TWRP. Following the instructions I copied the latest version zip onto the phone and booted the img through fastboot. So far everything is fine, but when I install the zip I will get several errors about "can't mount /persist". And the installation won't work.
At this point I am out of ideas, so maybe someone here can tell me if and how this can be fixed? I wasn't able to find any information on this issue, aside from some xiaomi phones can show similar errors with the /persist partition and TWRP.
Any help would be welcome.
