So after more or less randomly trying different things, and fearing that I might only have made matters worse, I hope someone can help:
I have got a Huawei Honor 6 H60-L04 (bootloader unlocked and rooted) and was, until two days ago, running KitKat with the B114 build and cwm recovery. Since Marshmallow has officially benn available for the Honor 6 for a while now, I decided to finally update.
I flashed stock recovery and updated to Marshmallow build B820 via update.app on sdcard. Booting worked fine, however I was unrooted (ofc) so I decided to flash SuperSU (2.76 [latest stable]).
So I flashed twrp 3.0.2.0. and so far all good. Still no problems booting. Then I flashed SuperSU (according to twrp successfully) and rebooted, just to find myself stuck on bootscreen. That is not the first one you get in bootloop but the animated honor logo. Well ****.
Since then I tried many things, wiped multiple times (data is unimportant, but unfortunately I don't have a working twrp backup, please don't lecture me on this, i know -.-), flashed almost any stock ROM I could get my hands on. In twrp I get this Error:
Could not find 'META-INF/com/google/android/update-binary' in the zip file". >"Error installing zip file". "Failed"Somewhere on the way I got
error! Func NO : 9 (FUNC_BOOT_KERNEL) Error NO : 2while booting, that's gone though.
I'm at the point now where I can install B820 via update.app on sdcard, see the installation progress succeed to 100%, reboot, and again, find myself stuck on animated honor logo.
I honestly have no idea what I can do, I hope someone here does. I'll happily provide any further information you might need.
Try and wipe everything, then reflash TWRP. Good luck ?

I did that, I lost count how many times. I wiped everything, clean twrp flash, still get the "meta-inf" error message. Maybe someone can provide me with a clean twrp backup for B820? that might actually work.
Ok, after making a fool of myself, I finally found the culprit. Turns out I have to wait a couple of minutes after a new installation for my phone to boot. And all the time I thought it was soft bricked -.-
However, I does get soft bricked whenever I try to flash SuperSU. Root = bricked. Unroot = unbricked. Anyone got an idea how to get SuperSU to work? I really don't want to go back to unrooted...
I used supersu 2.62 with MM.
After install i update supersu with Google play.
Supersu update itself the binary to 2.76.
It works with B820 ans now with B860.

I am caught in a bootloop after attempting to root using the following process.
Using Odin3 v3.10.6, I flashed the following:
n915t-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.1(1128).tar - THIS MAY HAVE BEEN AN ERROR. SHOULD I HAVE USED "openrecovery-twrp-2.8.1.1-trltetmo.img.tar"
I did a full backup to my phone's external SD card from cwm-recovery-6.0.5.1.
I then flashed both the files below without rebooting in between. I did not wipe any cache or data.
Emotion-TW-nightly-r23-RC1-SM-N915T
UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.46
The phone locked when I rebooted and would not move past the first black screen.
I pulled the battery and rebooted to recovery.
I did a restore of my backup that appeared to complete successfully.
I got a message asking to root the phone. I said yes, then rebooted.
Now stuck in a bootloop.
Hoping I can recover from this?
Root only with extra Kernel
When recovery asks to install root at the end, hit no. Thats your issue. You already installed supersu, so you've already got root. Personally I prefer stock kernel, with the latest beta supersu, you can still get root. With Universal init.d app, you can still get init.d support. With a custom build of xposed for Samsung lollipop, you can still get xposed. There's even a special version of viper audio. So yeah all you lose is the overclock ability.
Thank you. I ended up reflashing the firmware and got it working again. I'm still in the same situation, without root. My goal is to install a custom rom but I'm concerned about trying The Root process again. I read that a security patch was done in November for lollipop. Could that have impacted my ability to root and cause me to get into a boot loop? Wondering if there is a more current root method than the one I used.

Hello everyone!
First post by me here
I'm trying to be as cleas as possible.
Device: Honor 6 L04
current Firmware: B820
extras: none (no TWRP, no root, no mods)
Aim: getting back my fully configured B521 as TWRP nandroid backup.
I succeeded in flashing TWRP, but when I tried to recover my old B521 Backup I softbricked it. Using fastboot I was able to flash back B820 but that's it..I'm stuck and I worked on it for almost a complete day.
I might have overlooked something...not sure...even tried to flash the stock recovery after a recovered my B521 backup but still...no luck.
Tools used: SRK tool, multitool, adb, fastboot, coffee (lots)
I also tried the official rollback to be try to recover the TWRP nandroid backup. That sadly got stuck at 5% (seen some unanswered threads here in the forum concerning that particular problem). Or does the rollback package take longer than 20 minutes to get past the 5% mark?
I'd concider myself to have some kind of dangerous half-knowledge but I am not at all offended if you treat me like a noob...sometimes even a professional finds out that he just forgot to put the plug in.
Please help..I am getting desperate here.
Anyway..thanks to everyone who read through my ramblings.
Never use an twrp backup to downgrade with Honor phones !
If you was on B820:
Download full b820 firmware and use unbrick Honor multitool function.
After use downgrade packet from Hihonor and flash B521. At this point you could use your twrp backup.
Thanks for the tip!
As I said earlier, the official downgrade package got stuck at 5% and I stopped it after 20 minutes AND I was able to get a running MM System...no problem there...I didn't even need the unbrick function, I just flashed everything myself.
My question is: do I have to wait longer for the downgrade package?
And other thing came to mind: The problem could be the bootloader, right?
I cannot find any bootloader.img with the Huawei Update extractor...is it named differently? It must be somewhere in there....and if it is..it must be possible to flash it via fastboot, right?
Alrighty hey y'all! Just wanted to mention that I'm new to the XDA forums! Glad to be here! I have my honor 8 FRD-L04 here, and here is the problem I am facing... In EMUI 4.1 before the nougat update, I was rooted and had TWRP installed as my recovery. Then when I updated to EMUI 5 I downloaded the file via OTA, and then it took me into TWRP and installed it just fine. Now as usually, when I get OTA updates it always undoes my TWRP recovery and supersu root. So expecting this, I plugged my phone in, used the ADB fastboot and installed TWRP like usual, (following the guide on how to root honor 8 on XDA forums). Now, when going into recovery the phone just sits on Your device has been unlocked and can't be trusted.....(Other junk) Your device is now booting... and will never boot to TWRP. Doing alot of research on the internet (10 hours to be exact) I found a file that finally takes me into TWRP but I can not access my /data files, and it says error mounting /data, therefore I can not install super su, and it also says that my internal storage, sd card, etc is at 0mb...that can not be right. So I am a bit stuck, as of now I am going to attempt to rollback to EMUI 4.1, and if I am successful I will see if I can get TWRP to work again, but if it doesn't work I want to know why it's suddenly bugging out, and if it does work in 4.1 again, I'd like to figure out how to get it working in EMUI 5 because I like the new update! Cheers, and thank you all in advance
Bro you have to push the nougat compitable twrp you can find herehttps://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8/how-to/twrp-nougat-edition-t3504140

Thank you for your reply I have actually came across this article when doing my research, but it doesn't work properly for my particular phone and I don't know why. I guess I will stick with EMUI 4.1 and wait til EMUI 5 has official proper support.
Nougat seems to be working hard to block root on phones.
I have the same problem and would very much like to know what file made you able to enter twrp. Thanks
im on emui 5 with twrp 3.0.3-0, it will flash supersu, but will not root, i know its my version of twrp, but when i flash the new 3.1 version it wont boot

This worked for me. Thanks man!
Hello all.
I think it's all in the title. I am on L29C432B560, with root and TWRP installed.
Recently, I got the OTA notification for B581. But when I tried it, the system dowloaded the package, then rebooted to recovery. Except my recovery is TWRP, and won't auto-install the package.
Could I just use fastboot to re-flash stock recovery, OTA update, and maybe re-root with magisk ?
If yes, where to download the stock recovery for nougat ? I've been searching for 2 hours, but it seems my google-fu isn't strong enough :/
Alternatively, any suggestion is welcome as to the best way to go from rooted b560 with TWRP to b581 ...
Thanks in advance for your help !
Aaaaaand I just found it.
There seems to be something magical with me, where I look for something for 2 hours, then decide to ask for help, and figure out the solution 5 minutes later.
I just needed to use HuaweiUpdateExtractor to get the recovery.img file from a full b 560 update. After that I flashed it with fastboot, and the OTA .... well, the OTA failed. But it got through to standard recovery and started.
@kaceps
Here the stock recovery of your firmware.
I have been trying to revert to stock with no luck. What I want to do is install the latest update, but I can't because I had twrp installed. I flashed the original recovery. The problem is when I try to use eRecovery I get "Getting package info failed" error. when I try to download the b385 full update for the FRD-L04 I get a dead link. I was able to download the rollback package, but will I be able to get back to the latest version after I install the rollback package? when I try to use other update packages for my phone I get "Incompatibility with current version" error. Do I need to lock my bootloader in order to update? The good news is that my phone works fine, bad news is that I can't up date.

Thanks for the link, I just been to heck and back with this phone. first I uninstalled Magisk. After that my phone wouldn't boot, it would just hang on the blue screen after the initial boot screen. I tried to find a stock boot Image for my version. Once I installed that my phone would boot loop so I managed to get into fastboot and flash TWRP. Once in TWRP I restored my B360 backup and got my phone working again. Then I flashed the stock recovery. Tried to boot into the stock recovery but that wouldn't load. Some how I got it to install the rollback package and now i'm at version B300. Good news is I'm back to stock and can boot int the stock recovery. Time to see if I can update to the latest version.
Edit I think I might have a problem. It won't let me update also it shows my phone as "FRD-L04C900" not "FRD-L04C567" is there any way I can fix this?

I think you will have to restore you oeminfo partition backup through twrp.
On mr FRD-L09, I had to relock my bootloader, then get the rollback package and put the .app on my SD card and hard flash it, then do the same with the rom .app file. Thet got me back to stock marshamllow, and I just let all the updates run through until I'm now on the latest.
Stock is missing some bits, and has some irritations, but the camera is sooo much better than custom roms, and GPS works, as does Android Pay etc. I've not bothered rooting, AdGuard does the ad-blocking and the rest is liveable.
Well I think I'm my phone is screwed. I can't boot into recovery and when it boots it bootloops once and then it is stuck on the "your device is unlocked and can't be trusted. Fastboot still works fine I can lock and unlock the bootloader. I can flash Recovery and TWRP in Fastboot but neither one will boot. I think I might have flashed the wrong update or it happened when I flashed the rollback package. I want to try DC Phoenix but they won't let me buy credits because my PayPal account is unverified. I have downloaded the "Honor 8_Firmware_FRD-L04_Android 6.0_EMUI 4.1_C567B122_United States_Nonspecific" from the hihonor.com site. I extracted it and flashed the recovery, boot, and system image through fastboot. The phone still won't boot into recovery or boot into the OS. Is there a way to fix this or is it time for a new phone.
Thank you everybody for your help.
Ok my phone is fixed. What I did was buy 15 credits for DC Phoenix and flashed the "Honor 8_Firmware_FRD-L04_Android 6.0_EMUI 4.1_C567B122_United States_Nonspecific" package. When I rebooted my phone it automatically went into ERecovery and downloaded and installed the B162 update. I was able to fully boot after that It updated to B360 and then B388.
Thank you everybody for your help.

How did you flash the file you mentioned above? Did you put it on the SD card and used TWRP?
Also, what is so special about that file?
I have the L14 (64gb US version) and just about the same exact problem you describe.
If you have any extra steps that would help me recover mine that would be great.

Sorry for replying so late, hopefully you fixed your phone if not here is a link with some more information.

I followed the instuctions for the honor 7. I would recommend finding the full update firmware for your phone. It took me a lot of googling to find it. Make sure it is the correct firmware, you need to match the numbers before the B-- for me it was (FRD-L04C567) and for you it would be (FRD-L14????) I hope this helps.

After you flash the firmware, you must format data with emui recovery, and it will boot up
After trying different methods, this one works
Download
1 .Honor 8_FRD-L04_Rollback_Package_from_Android7.0 to Android 6.0_C900B300
2. Honor_8_Firmware_FRD-L04_Android_6.0_EMUI-4.1_C567B122_United_States_Nonspecific
Put on dload (sd card) #1 after shutdown the phone and put on the folder dload (Sd card) #2. after reboot your phone starts with android 6.0
Try this

Ok so i had the exact problem, im not sure if this will help but what I did was flash my cust recovery system and boot through bootloader, I then put the dload folder on my sdcard with the update.app in it, from there I put my phone into download mode so hold all 3 buttons until it goes into download mode. Once there it will automatically install the update.app, and you should be good to go. If not than go to recovery mode do a factory reset and wipe the cache and see if that works.
