Cast Controller | Webvideos to Chromecast and FireTV
In a nutshell, Cast Controller is a tiny Browser, which detects emedded videos in webpages and lets you cast them directly to your TV with a single Tap.
Even if the UI looks like made by an 12-years-old, this little bastard excels in supplying your FireTV or AndroidTV with videos aside of the official offerings of Google and Amazon.
Unlike similar apps, Cast Controller gets the video directly from the Browser after the site has been loaded completely and therefore handles a huge variety of video players and -sites.
For the "enduser-oriented", official description, please refer to the App's Micropage. If you wan't the XDA-version, continue reading
Features
Watch almost every video on the Web on your TV via Amazon FireTV or a Google Cast-enabled Device.
No need for any additional companion- or receiver-app on your TV.
Handles a huge variety of video players and -sites (see below for more information), even if videos are asynchronously loaded.
Working seamlessly with sites like Facebook, Instagram, Twitch and Vimeo, as well as almost every video your phone's Browser would play too.
Control video playback from your phone, including easy seeking in long videos with the recently added progress bar.
Browser with Favorites management, Autocomplete and search powered by Duckduckgo.
Advanced Browser features like Desktop mode, Browsing history and disabling Javascript or Cookies (PRO only - free via XDA).
Integrated AdBlocker and Tracking Protection for unrooted phones, safely preventing you from most annoying ads and malicious redirects (PRO only - free via XDA).
Play your last watched videos directly, without having to re-visit the page (PRO only - free via XDA).
Completely Ad-Free (PRO only - free via XDA).
Now even more convenient!
You can cast to other devices like Smart TVs or Game Consoles now by sending the video to third party apps like AllCast, BubbleUPnP or LocalCast.
Open links directly from your favourite Browser or any other app with Share-functionality in Cast Controller.
New built-in Popup Blocker for both Free and PRO Version.
Share or copy the link of found videos, to do whatever you want with it
Build a playlist of videos (PRO only - free via XDA).
How to use
That's pretty simple either:
Connect your phone or tablet to the same WiFi-Network your FireTV or Cast-Device is on.
Available devices will pop up in the Toolbar in the top right corner. Choose a device you want to play on. If you don't see any devices, please check your connection.
Visit the page where your video is located. You can type an URL or a search term into the input field.
Tap the video and start it in the browser to get it recognized. If a video was found, the Action Button turns orange. Tap the Button to start playing on your TV.
??? (it may take some time for the FireTV/Chromecast to buffer the video, especially if it's a bigger one)
Profit - enjoy
There is also a nice Video by GadgetHacks on how to use it:
Get PRO-version for free, exclusively on XDA
Unfortunately, my friends are not that tech-savvy, most of them don't even know what a Chromecast is and prefer cable-TV over Netflix & Amazon Video.
So I give away 100 free Promo Codes for the Pro-Version, exclusivly here on XDA Just post a reply and I will send you a coupon asap (usually within a day).
Please notice that I can only supply you with a free PRO-Version if you get the app from Google Play, Amazon does not offer that kind of promotions.
Where to get
Cast Controller is available via Google Play or Amazon App Store.
If you like it, please post a nice review and/or tell your friends, it has been recently downvoted by people who didn't knew how to use it... Maybe it's usage is not that self-explaining, I'm working on that...
Supported sites, Limitations
First, let's see which sites are already tested working:
Facebook, Vimeo, Instagram, Twitch, Vid.me, Clipfish, Veoh, Chip.de Video
Additionally, every site using standard HTML5 video players or an actual version of JW Player
Most "grey area" video streaming sites, like Streamcloud, Vidzi and you name it
Most big adult Tube-sites
Confirmed broken:
Twitter and Vine - videos are broken in the browser, probly due to a bug in Android's built-in WebView --> trying to fix this!
Dailymotion and MyVideo, couldn't figure that out yet --> trying to fix this!
Youtube - had to remove support, as Google rejects the App otherwise.
Amazon Video, Hulu and Netflix, for obvious, DRM-related reasons
ANY kind of Flash-videos (again, for obvious reasons)
The browser itself imposes some natural limitations as well:
The Desktop mode is limited to sites that are actually using seperate Desktop/Mobile versions. So called "Responsive" sites (like XDA) adapt solely on basis of your device's screen size and can therefore not be changed.
If you tinker to much with the settings (Cookies, Javascript, AdBlock, Desktop-mode,...), videos might not be recognized as the page lacks the ability to properly display them.
Help me with Translations
Cast Controller is currently available in English, German and Spanish - if you speak another one and are motivated to translate ~40 short clauses, you'd do me a huge favor!! Just PM me or leave a post.
Naturally, I'll give you credit in the Changelog (here and in the Stores) and mention you on the Startpage (unless you explicitly don't want me to).
Roadmap
Upcoming features in the next Releases:
Adding support for Vine, Twitter, Dailymotion, MyVideo
I'm open for further suggestions, just leave a post
Further improve DLNA-support --> removed with 1.10 due to performance issues and limited functionality. I'm planning to do an own App on this, which is tailored to the specific requirements of that protocol
Already done:
DLNA, via third party apps like BubbleUPnP, AllCast & Co. --> new in 1.13
Autocomplete for URL input --> done, 1.7
On first start, the app needs some time to be set up. Instead of the blank white screen, I'll include a nice splash screen. --> done, 1.7
Experimental DLNA-support added --> done, 1.8, removed in 1.10
Open HTTP-links from other Apps (via Share) directly in the app --> done, v1.8
Improved Video Detection to find Videos embedded in iframes --> done, v1.8
Donations
Erm... no thanks, I think I'm fine, seriously I don't want to make a fast buck with you, that's why I'm giving it away for free here. I developed this app because I had a certain need no other app could fulfill.
However, you can help me: If you like it, please tell your friends about it and give me a good review. If not, please contact me or post your feedback here to improve it.
Any feedback appreciated!

News and Updates
11.12.2016: 1.13 is released officially, bringing new magic to the app - check the Changelog for more info! Also, I've added another 20 promo codes, so if you want to check it out, now's the opportunity to
01.12.2016: Next release is going to be huge, I'm almost wetting my pants
27.11.2016: Version 1.12 is available on the Beta-Channel on Google Play
21.09.2016: It became a bit more quiet in the last weeks. Since the last 3 Releases contained mostly Bugfixes, Crash-Reports are coming only on rare occasions by now. That's a good thing
01.09.2016: 1.11 will be available in Stores officially within the next 24h. If you are haunted by some crashes, this should fix them
28.08.2016: There seems to be an annoying bug in 1.10 affecting a bunch of people with Free Version (I get Crash Reports every day for this ) I'm going to do another update next week, which will also fix a couple of other minor issues and introduce Spanish translation (special thanks to @Antieco !!!) but it has to be tested well first.
20.08.2016: Pushed another update (1.10) to tackle performance issues
13.08.2016: Version 1.9 is coming to the App Stores, featuring a bunch of bug- und crash-fixes. You should definitively get this one!!
05.08.2016: I'm doing a boooring bugfix release for 1.9 - but only since I did quite a lot there - during the next week.
But I ran out of interesting ideas for features. DLNA really sucks since I' haven't got any proper devices to test on (best would be one ore more SmartTVs...I've got a FireTV, so I never needed this ) - That's why further development is painfull.
Could you guys think of any feature that would improve your Cast Controller-Experience? Just please dont say Roku...
Best suggestions will be implemented in 1.10 !
04.08.2016: Cast Controller is back on Google Play!!!
03.08.2016: found the bug and begging Google on my knees to re-enable the app. Otherwise, I'd have to do a new package name, and everybody would have to re-install and re-buy the "new" App without even knowing there is one as i didn't do push notifs
02.08.2016: Google kicked me out of Play Store, even there's no sign of YT-support. Maybe I have to re-submit the whole app, so only Amazon Appstore for now...
01.08.2016: Google keeps rejecting the 1.7 release even after I ripped out Youtube-support. It will take another couple of days to get in contact with the right people...
31.7.2016: had to artificially remove Youtube support from App, as Google screwed me for this - so next Release won't bring YT to your TV anymore However, Amazon doesn't care about that kind of stuff, so I implemented this ridicolous "barrier" only for the GooglePlay-Release - via Amazon Appstore it will continue supporting Youtube.
29.7.2016: just finished 2 features from the roadmap and already started DLNA-support (first only as experimental feature), new Release 1.7 is coming soon to App Stores near you

not a single one? that's sad
is the idea so bad? I use it almost every day...

This is an awesome idea! I can't wait to try it out! Thank you for taking the time!

Thanks for the encouraging words guys @NP unfortunately can't send you PM, let me know if I can deliver you a code otherwise as well

This is pretty cool concept. I'll be testing on some less known sites.

Just bought a Chromecast and I was looking for something like this, so far it worked with every site that I tried, thank you! :good:

@savvymatthew @Zakeke @NP thanks for your testing efforts, please keep me updated if you experience anything odd! Coupon codes are out already

Looks pretty cool, can I get a pro please?

@coolcapnc it's in your inbox would you mind leaving a review on Google Play if you like it?

Can you plz share a code, if available...???

@tdfsu @tmeuze @CadTechBGMC enjoy Would be great if you could leave an honest review on Google Play!

sorry to spam... anyone elese?

Yes please

suggestions
The app-icon is too much detailed up-right. I cant understand what it symbolize. :silly:
Also. the app should be named web-built-in-videos-cast.
or web-video-cast.
One question, how does the inside app-architecture work? Does it download offline in cache and stream seconds later, or does the app (cast controller) redirect live to the device (chromeCast eg.)?
Thank you very much for your effort :good:

[APP][2.1+] D7 Reader (Feedly|RSS) v2.2.7 [30th July 2013]

This project was started (read below for more details) as a Google Reader client app for Android. After the shutdown of Google Reader on 1st of July, the app was enhanced to support Feedly cloud and The Old Reader services. This list will grow and more services will be supported in the future.

I want to introduce my android application to the XDA community in the hope that it will be useful for like minded people and to get constructive feedback to improve the app.
D7 Reader
I have been using the web based Google Reader on my Android phone for long and I have tried several native applications in the market, which sync with Google reader, including the official one. However, I was not satisfied with any of them because of the below reasons.
All the apps want to sync in the background and store all articles offline (who wants to download those 1000 articles which were published a month ago, wasting the precious bandwidth)
The sync has always been an issue - I read article in the app and half an hour later I check the web based reader, that article wasn't marked as read
I couldn't do all the actions which I do in the web based Google reader (e.g.: add/remove subscription, label/tag management, article search, view shared articles, etc)
No app is instantly usable - initial sync may take up to an hour and this happens on a regular (scheduled sync) basis
Most of the apps are slow on my Galaxy S
So, I wanted to make a Google Reader app for my own needs and the result is "D7 Google Reader".
Below are details of the app.
D7 Reader: the fastest RSS Reader app for Android
rss | atom | news | podcast | video
A simple, fast and powerful Google Reader client for Android, enables you to access your reading list and manage your subscriptions with ease from a native application. The app keeps all the stuff in sync with Google Reader, always, without the need for a scheduled sync. It supports listening to podcasts or downloading them for later use and watching embedded video using the youtube app.
D7 Reader is an online app and it does support offline reading when the articles are explicitly saved (locally) by the user.

looks nice on first test, but one major issue: to open an article in browser i first have to open that menu and then click the browser button. should be a single click on the headline, way too annoying this way.
and also that check for ad blocking hosts file is quite annoying. If i like the app i'll buy it but please let me test the free version in advance without changing my system config. Show red annoying boxes instead of the ads when ads are blocked, that's ok, but please don't force me to disable my ad blocker which will in turn enable ads on all websites

Thank you for the feedback XlAfbk.
Next version will have the browser button fix; I will consider finding an alternate solution for ad-blocked devices.
Very promising. Finally an *online* reader similar to Google native. I feel however that article list view space could be better used to fit more articles on the page, the last line is wasted with two icons. Also, how about showing article time in addition to date?

Do you think you can live without those icons? Even if I remove the left 2 icons, podcast icon needs to ne shown to indicate the user there is an attacjed podcast. I will think of a better way of arranging the information to utilise the space.
For the date/time display, do you think showing the time for todays articles and date for the older articles is a better option? Displaying both time and date will take up more space in my opinion. Please let me know your comments.

swipe... good that you mention it. swiping right/left to go to the next/previous item would be nice (instead of having to click the arrow buttons)

1. Maybe show icons on the same line as subject or preview? I really like the way Reader mobile page is formatted, clean and much better than the Google's reader app - article preview, smaller fonts.
2. I agree that time is relevant for today only.

thought of another idea....besides the widget newsrob has an unread count if use a shortcut instead i like this idea because its easier to change the icons to fit a theme...would this be possible for this app

ok ill try....for example if i long press the home screen news has an unread count widget. but newsrob also has it so that instead of using the widget i can place a shortcut on the home screen that shows the unread count ill post a screen later if its still doesnt make sense
I like the in-app mobilize article screen. However, the font is quite small for my phone.
Can you add option to change font size in mobilize article screen?
Is it possible to add option to go straight to "Reading List" when I open the app?
[add] Could you also add option to go straight to mobilize article screen when I tap the article?
Thanks
thanks for the app! i like it so much!!!

Got you; thanks for the detailed explanation.
I will consider this, but this will be of lower priority compared to the other features in the list. So, please don't expect this in the next release.

Impel is an automation and task creation utility for your phone or your tablet running Android 2.1 through 4.0.
Unlike other utilities, Impel is designed to be simple to use, easy to maintain, very low on memory consumption and polite to system resources (runs as a service or as an app - you choose). Root features are available but it runs just fine without root (su features will be hidden). It is worth noting that on Galaxy Nexus devices there is a force close issue if you use the lock screen camera button. We know about this issue and are working on a fix for this now.
Give Impel a try and see if you like it, then let us know. We're a small developer with some great talent and fast feedback response times, we're just looking for more customers and feedback. There are two versions of the app available in two different storefronts:
Free version with in-app Plus upgrade (no ads) :

Plus version only :

Release Notes
I like it. The U.I is much friendlier when compared to a "Similar " app.
May have to upgrade now. I like it.
Thanks and regards
Tested and upgraded, takes 34mb of ram, Tasker takes 5,4mb for exacly the same tasks... :/ so for now..
Will wait a little before reinstall it !
But, really good job, very easier ! Will retry later !

Hmm, interesting feedback on the memory usage. Is that 34MB while in use and the UI isn't being shown? I think there is something odd happening there.
I would be curious to know your device, OS and task setup. By comparison my heavily loaded Impel with 11 tasks using all types of receivers is only 6.9MB while running in app mode. The most I've ever seen Impel use in recent versions is 11MB. My goto, daily device is a Galaxy Nexus running 4.0.2 with Impel 1.1.0 on it.

I got a SGS i9000 with a stock modded (themed and lmk tweaked) JVZ 2.3.6, i haven't got any oyher memory issue and i use very few apps to limit services.
Impel set up as "Quiet", UI closed with sgs task manager (so really closed).
My tasks are :
2 tasks to set media volume with headset plug in or out.
2 tasks to set autosync on/off when power is plugged in/out !
Edit : just retried, 25mo in memory for the processus !
-------------------------
GT-I9000 | SauRom JVZ DEODEXED | Semaphore Kernel Powered
Very odd. How are you determining the memory in use by Impel on your device?
One other thing to check against is to set Impel to disable the tasks and see what is reported then. From within Impel, press Menu, Settings, and check Disable all tasks and exit to the launcher. In this state Impel will have shutdown all services and removed everything from a running state. In essence, it should not be around in memory at all when you reach the home screen.
If your phone still reports Impel as using memory at this point, the memory usage issue lies outside of our control.
Support language Polish please

linar10,
We haven't yet provided localized versions for any language, but I will add your request to the list. I would imagine that there would be other languages in the queue ahead of Polish due to the distribution of the app, however. I just want to set expectations appropriately.
As a more general question to the XDA forum, how do most apps from small developers handle localization? It is quite costly to do this work for apps that haven't made much money (that includes Impel at this point) and it seems that most apps are English or developer-native-language only that we see on the Android Market. Are there well known ways to get translations for less that actually are useful?
This looks promising. Will try later tonight if I have time.
As for localization, I've done many translations of software from English to French on different platforms free of charge (or nearly).
I've seen others do the same, I think you'd be surprised to see how many people are ready to translate software, given that you provide them with an easy to use solution/way of translating strings and seeing the changes made.
I've done games and apps translations in the past and I've been rewarded with the software itself for free (plus credits for translation) or a small monetary compensation in the form of a cheque or gift card. Good enough incentives in my opinion, I absolutely HATE when a developer uses google translate or any other automatic translation tool for their software.
An example how is terminated that competition http://muzikant-android.blogspot.com/2011/07/translateit-automateit-with-your.html (sorry my bad english)
OK, thanks for the feedback on the translation work. We will have to look into this for Impel at some point in the future. We don't yet have a way to give away Plus versions of the app, or comp someone who buys it, but that may be possible in the future.
Getting folks to do translations for free, and not put nonsense or bad words into those translations, is certainly a big concern. Not sure how everyone else handles those cases but it is something I worry about.

Makes sense, I imagine you can counter verify by having more than one translator working on one language.
I don't think this issue has ever popped up in the past though, as unlikely as it seems. Some people simply have nice intentions.
polobunny, thanks for the input. Perhaps we'll call on you to help us with French at some point in the future, then
Hello again from the Impel HQ.
For those folks who would like to help test and provide feedback on an updated version of Impel, we have a release candidate for you to take a look at. A couple of fixes and additions have made it into this version, but no major features. Here's what's inside:
Fixed a crash when using the "camera swipe unlock" feature on Galaxy Nexus Android 4.x devices
Fixed a crash with the "network only" location provider service (not using GPS)
Fixed the color picker for very high dpi (Galaxy Nexus, Tablets) devices
Added a new setting: Location Services - restrict Impel to just GPS, just Network, or both
Added detailed location logging into the logcat stream
This build is an install-over-the-top version for Android Market customers only. Sorry about that, Amazon Appstore customers, but there is no way to do beta releases for your version at this time.
If you have Impel Plus, DO NOT uninstall Impel prior to installing this version or you WILL LOSE Plus functions. If you are a free customer this app works the same as your existing Impel does.
For people who want to see what Impel sees when it asks for locations, use your favorite logcat reader (ours is Catlog) and filter for Impel. You will see what Impel is seeing when it asks for a location from your device. The location data works like this:
Ask the device for all location services that are available: GPS and Network (WiFi and cell towers)
Device responds with all services and their accuracy level. The lower the number, the more accurate the service
Impel automatically chooses the most accurate service and gets the location data. This data is provided in Lat/Long format. This data can be dropped right into Google Maps to show exactly where the device thinks it is currently
Please give this a test and tell us what you think. We look forward to your feedback. Thanks!
Hello again. We've taken some more feedback in and have made some additional fixes and updates based on customer input:
* Fixed a crash when using the "camera swipe unlock" feature on Galaxy Nexus Android 4.x devices
* Fixed a crash with the "network only" location provider service (not using GPS)
* Fixed the color picker for very high dpi (Galaxy Nexus, Tablets) devices
* Fixed a WiFi receiver crash in location services
* Added a new setting: Location Services - restrict Impel to just GPS, just Network, or both
* Added detailed location logging into the logcat stream
* Added in-app logging of tasks in chronological order
* Added an additional boot-start permission to fix cases where Impel doesn't always auto-start
Grab a copy of the APK from post #2 and let us know how it works for you. Note: this version is meant to be installed on top of an existing Impel setup from the Android Market only. Amazon Appstore customers cannot use the betas, sorry.
We just released, posted and are starting to see the first bits of version 1.1.1 trickling out into the Android Market. Amazon Appstore folks will have to wait a bit longer for the approval process to see the new bits.
Our thanks goes out to those of you who tried the beta and gave us feedback. It was invaluable and you will find your fixes made it into this release version.
For all the details take a quick look over at our release notes post on our web site. The highlights are below for your perusal:
New setting: Location Services - restrict Impel to use GPS, Network or both
Added detailed location logging into the logcat stream
New stats: Task history shows a chronological list of when tasks were last run
New permission: additional boot-start permission to fix cases where Impel won't always auto-start
Fixed a crash when using the "camera swipe unlock" feature on Galaxy Nexus Android 4.x devices
Fixed "add widget" text to be correct for Android 4.x devices
Fixed a crash with the "network only" location provider service (not using GPS)
Fixed the color picker for very high dpi (Galaxy Nexus, Tablets) devices
Fixed a WiFi receiver crash in location services
General Fixes - some little issues were found and improved upon
Let us know what you think of it, we do hope you'll like it.
We've had quite a few people ask us "what is Impel" and "what can it do?"
So we put together a short, 30 second video with some highlights to explain it. Take a look and see for yourself what Impel can do.
Watch what can Impel do? on YouTube.
Hello there folks. We have had some customers periodically contact us, saying that Impel will lose all of their tasks at some interval (e.g. every week, every few days, etc.). We have researched this issue but have so far been unable to determine the cause and we have not seen this issue on any of our test devices.
We don't know if this issue impacts only a few people (since we've gotten just a handful of emails) or many. So, if you have this issue please contact us! It is very important that we capture all of the details of your device, your tasks, and the exact situations where this task loss occurs. Without your assistance we will continue to look for the issue, but it will be a much slower and more painful fixing process.
Thanks for your help and patience.
widgets
Are there any plans to introduce App Icons for task widgets?
Would like to set up a widget activated task to turn on WiFi then launch. Play store but using the play store icon.
Tasker does this but I don't like the app, UI is too complicated.

[CLOSED] [APP][4.1+][V1.3.7] Saiy | Your Open Source Virtual Assistant

Welcome to Saiy... Install - Mod edit: Broken DL link removed.
For those of you visiting this thread as subscribers to utter! you'll know the history well. A promising release, active development and then silence..... Please accept my apologies - if you don't know that 'sometimes life gets in the way' then you are the envy of most.
A bit of history for you...
To cut a half-decade-long story short, the Fragmentation of Android ground this project to a halt. When I first demoed my creation to the world, I had visions of knocking it up on Android and then focusing on how it functioned in the background. I was about to drown myself in machine learning to bring my vision to life. Job done? Well no...
It turned out that developing an app that covered almost every function available on an Android device (I refuse to say 'phone' - it's not 1983!) , was a job for 1,000+ developers, not just a lonesome one such as I, on a 10 year old Dell laptop - and each time a new update to Android was released, I huddled in a corner and wept, as I waited for the crash reports and 1* ratings to roll in.
It turns out that bugs aren't only specific to Android versions. You multiply that by Manufacturers messing with builds - and devices running multiple versions and then even the Locale of the device causing crashes and you end up with 12,000+ supported devices exponentially multiplied by all other eventualities as your user base.
I drowned... And my (in hindsight) naive plans of master AI'ery, whilst users enjoyed playing with it on Android, dropped down to the bottom of my to-do list. Things had to change.
I decided to shut myself away in a dark room to completely rewrite the Android code, so that it was both readable and scalable; despite its complexity. Rumours flew that I had died - and in some ways, I did....
Not really ^ that just felt justifiably dramatic! :cyclops:
So, utter! is reborn as Saiy® and Open Sourced, so it may have a chance of competing with the big boys, before they run away with all of our private data and souls, in order to use their services...
Install Saiy from the Play Store - here
Note - a direct download link will appear here shortly!
You can get involved by checking out the Development Section in the app, or alternatively, if you're a curious Android Developer, check out the base code published on GitHub here
The code base is pretty large, so briefly, there are two major classes in the app, that direct and distribute work elsewhere:
SelfAware is the main Foreground Service, responsible for managing the application state and channelling voice recognition, text to speech and other API requests.
Quantum is the main processing class, where commands are locally resolved (if required), sensibility checked and actioned.
Understanding the above two classes is essential to following the flow of the full application logic.
MyLog is a global verbose logging toggle. When enabled, the output will flow class to class, as well as display durations for time sensitive functions.
The following remains for the sake of me needing some sleep and posterity
About this thread
Firstly, I’d like to thank everyone for the positive feedback and encouragement and the huge amount of messages I’ve received on YouTube, email, twitter, G+ and here on XDA volunteering to be involved in beta testing. It’s very much appreciated and I apologise that I cannot respond to them all. Please take this intro as a thank you.
This thread is for your open discussion about utter! and the features you'd like to see included, so please feel free to throw your ideas back and forth (be nice to each other) and I’ll do my best to keep up with them when I have time.
About utter!
Unlike other voice applications, utter! will be configurable to the user, enabling you to assign spoken keywords to use the functionality of your favourite applications or make system related changes to your device. There's no cumbersome overlay or launching of another application to use the features, utter! sits in the background ready to be activated, whenever you want, without interrupting whatever you are doing.
Which applications will initially be compatible?
The more interest I can demonstrate in utter! the more likely your favourite application developer will want to make their functionality available to use. The purpose of the YouTube video and this thread is to get their attention and create a more functional first beta release.
I’m a developer and I'd like features of my application to be utter! compatible.
Please contact me to discuss how our applications can work together.
FAQs
Q) Will an offline speech engine be built in?
A) I hope so. I'm waiting to see what features of Google Now are made available to developers
Q) What languages will it be available in?
A) At first, English only. Once I have the framework functioning correctly, I can turn my attention to translations (thank you for the messages I’ve received offering translation help).
Q) Will it use natural speech recognition?
A) Over time it will, but in the testing stages commands will be more structured. As my algorithms develop, so will the application's ability to recognise exactly what you want.
For the conversation mode I’m really up against it. I’m almost trying to reinvent the wheel knowing that Google are no doubt sitting on a very advanced algorithm purposely for this… They are more than welcome to allow me to use it…
Q) How much is utter! going to cost when it’s out of beta?
A) I don’t know as yet. Not more than a couple of dollars... I just need to make sure that whatever the price, it's more than worth it.
Q) Which speech engine does it use?
A) In the video I used IVONA beta (available on the Market here). This option is configurable so you can use a free or premium engine of your choice.
Q) Google’s Project Majel will no doubt surpass this application. Why are you bothering?
A) Perhaps.. It remains to be seen the direction Google take and whether their focus will be too much in the interest of nudging you towards Google services, rather than providing an open and configurable voice integrated assistant.
For example: If you assign ‘Save Battery’ to a command, on detection utter! could go ahead and minimise your brightness level and screen time-out, turn off (or restrict) all data connections, set your device to GSM only, turn off vibrate functions and screen animations, underclock and undervolt your CPU (requires root) etc etc.. Is that what you expect from Majel? Personally, I don’t… [Update - I think I was right about this!]
Q) How do I register to beta test!?
A) Hang around this thread – thank you.
Q) The icon you used in the video for utter! was lame!
A) Yes! I just borrowed the inbuilt icon for now. If you think you can design a better one, please feel free! Maximum respect (at the very least) from the first post is offered in return!
Q) Can you adapt Siri to do these things please?
A) I honestly have had these requests – I’m afraid that’s not going to be possible now… or in the near/far future /ever…

subscribed! looking forward to this, it appears to be a much better solution than anything currently available. thanks for your hard work and determination.
Brandall - I congratulate you on what appears to be an amazing product. Would it be possible to navigate certain applications via voice? As an example, is something like this feasible: "Utter - scroll down 25%" to scroll down 25% of the way while viewing a web page in a browser, for instance?
Also, what about controlling a desktop computer via a Windows application/plug-in?
Brandall, this app looks amazing. In 4+ years of XDA'ing, I just hit subscribe for the first time. Can't wait to try it out. Do you have a twitter we can follow you at? Maybe @utter! or the likes.

One of my favorite aspects of Android over iOS is simply choices like this. Majel could very well have aspects that surpass this app and utter! will probably have aspects that surpass Majel - ultimately whichever works best for you personally is the one to go with.

Thank you. When offline recognition is available it opens the door to many more mundane speech controlled functions. As it stands at the moment, implementing such commands would be more of a gimmick and wouldn't be quicker or save time/effort..

Ok, this app is entirely OFF THE HOOK! (in a good way). I can't believe how much functionality you squeezed into this app in its first iteration. No other remote remotely has this many features. Controlling podcasts, genius playlists, and the radio, not to mention all videos and rentals? This is something I've been requesting other devs for some time, but no one has been able to figure it out. And, congrats on sticking with the holo theme.
Can I suggest a "dark theme" with more of a "gradient" background? While I like the notification area, any chance of a widget in the near future? How about a setting to determine which area is to be seen upon startup? It seems to default to playlist as of now, but I generally hone in on albums by starting out at the genre level. But, that's just me and my "workflow".
Anyways, congrats on a fantastic start!

Thanks for the complements on Retune. Glad you enjoy it. I had been working on it for quite a long time and decided it was time to share it. Everyone seems to have been enjoying it quite a bit. It has been quite rewarding.
Also thank you for the requests. I am actually currently working on a widget. It should be in my next release, I'm hoping to have that out in a month or two, it all depends on how much of my time my job will take up. Been many late nights lately.
I have also received a bunch of requests for a dark theme. I'm am by no means a graphic artist, so I need to look into what I can do with my icons. Hopefully I can figure something out.
A default view upon launching the app is also very doable. I'll see what I can do about that. Should be pretty easy.
iTunes 11 has pretty much broken iTunes remote apps.
As you may have realized by now, iTunes 11 with its new "UP NEXT" behaves much differently when you select a song to play from the remote app in terms of populating the new "up next" list.
When you select a song within an album OR when selecting the "play all" menu item to the right of an album in the album list, the "up next" list gets populated with the first song you select, followed by songs in alphabetical order from a list containing every possible song in your entire collection, and NOT those in the actual album.
Were you aware of this issue and do you have an update in the works? It looks like Hyperfine has already updated to requiring iTunes 11. Thanks again for your great app!

Floepie,
I am aware of the issues with Retune and iTunes 11. Thanks for letting me know about the issue. I have been working long and hard every night after work to bring support of iTunes 11 to Retune.
So for a status update this is where I am at: I have fixed all problems Retune had with iTunes 11. I did have to change somethings here and there due to Apples changes; however, overall all the features Retune had before are still there. I have also added iTunes 11 Up Next support as well. You will be able to add tracks, albums, songs, artists, genres, and composers to the Up Next list; as well as, view/remove songs from the Up Next list. I have also added some smaller non-iTunes 11 features as well. More features will be coming after my update as well. Right now, all I have left to do is more testing to make sure nothing else is broken. I am also keeping full iTunes 10 support. Everything Retune did with iTunes 10 will still work after the update to Retune. So Retune will still only require iTunes 10 and later.
As for a time frame for my update with the fixes. I believe that within 48 hours of this post, you should see an update for Retune with the fixes. So not too much longer you will need to wait for an update.
Hope that answers all your questions. Let me know if you have any more.

This is something I get from my friends and family all the time. There are actually multiple reasons why I decided to give Retune out for free. The biggest reason is mainly a social experiment for me. I have seen many other developers using donations as a way to gain money and I always wondered how much they actually got. I heard that for games it can work quite well, so I decided to try it out myself (Retune not being a game being a totally different ballgame ). Overall, I like the concept of giving an app for free with donations. If someone can't pay for the app they are still able to use it and others are able to give what they feel the app is worth. It is interesting to see how much people feel an app is worth. Overall, it has been a very enlightened experience.
My second biggest reason is that Retune is my first Android app. I really only have two Android devices to play with so I wasn't sure how the app would work on others. I have heard many Android developers complain about the overall fragmentation of Android so it made me worried. I figured if I put the app up for free most people would be more willing to accept problems on their specific device. It seems that many people haven't experienced problems, so overall, my original concern really wasn't an issue. Retune seems to be doing just fine on other Android devices, which is great. Another learning experience for me.
Third, since there were/are many other iTunes remote apps for pay, I wasn't sure if people would be willing to pay for another. I was hoping to get some good exposure, so I decided to leave Retune as free.
Such a simple question, yet a very big answer.
I was searching for an itunes remote on the market, had to go through a few pages before I got to retune but my word was it worth it! Its fast, good looking and works perfectly - fantastic!
Can't believe this hasn't had more recognition, definitely deserves it - a must have for anyone who uses itunes!
Continuing to love this app here, and just stepping in to give a couple user improvement suggestions.
1. Is there a way you could add some sort of "library" button to the 'now playing' screen, which would bring the user immediately all the way back to the default view, as set in the settings? For me, I always find it most convenient to drill down into finding an album or song by starting at genre --> artist --> album --> song. So, in order to go back to the top, I need to hit back 4 times. I know, first world problems, right?
2. The genres list view is inconsistent with the other views (artists, albums, etc) where the genres are grouped by their first letter, whereas all other lists are not grouped. Perhaps you had used grouping for other lists too at one time and decided against it after all and didn't remove the grouping from the genres view? It seems to me at least that the genres view would be the least in need of any grouping. I would prefer no grouping, but, if you like it, what can I say?
Thanks again for a great app.

Floepie,
In response to 1: I believe I could add a way to jump back to the library view. I'll add it to my to do list. I will need to figure out where to place it as I am running out of menu space .
In response to 2: I was trying to follow what the Apple Remote app does. There are a couple places where groupings are done by their first letter, this being genres, composers, and all songs view (only on phones). I've been thinking about grouping in more places to be more consistent. I've just had more pressing features and bugs to work on for now, so it has been pretty low priority. Do you not like the groupings be letter or do you just not like it being consistent everywhere?
Hope you continue to enjoy my app!

It's great. Can't believe why you haven't gotten more followers.
1. Well, if you wanted to implement it, you could either stick it in as an additional item behind the 3 dot menu at the bottom of the now playing screen {"back to library"). Or, better yet, you could move the 3 dot menu to the upper right hand of the screen (where it's generally found more often) and replace it with a "library button" icon. That way, you can maintain the clean look.
2. Ah, I see the pattern. Grouping is only present in text-only lists. Cool. For me, it matters extremely little. I'd have a slight preference for without grouping in the genres list, as the list is probably very short for most people I'm willing to guess.
Thanks again.

I think I'll get more followers in time. Word of mouth for it has spread slowly but surely. Since my app is free I haven't done any advertisement other than trying to use social web sites to spread word about it. I plan on submitting Retune to a couple Android review sites too soon. We'll see what happens. Hopefully they decide to review it and give me a good review. :fingers-crossed:
1. Thanks for the feedback. It seemed like Google recomended to move the 3 dots to the lower half of the screen. At least that is how it seemed in their docs. That is why I moved it down there. I'll play around and see what I can figure out.
2. For me the Genres list is actually rather large. I do listen to many different types of music so that doesn't help

UltimateBrowserProject
This Project has officially been discontinued. The reason is that I don't have time to work on this anymore. It was actually started as a fun project just to learn new stuff about programming in Android and with the overwhelming response, I just went on to learn more. But now, due to little or no time I cannot continue and have decided to discontinue this project for good.
If anyone would like to take over on my behalf, they are free to do so. Just make sure to keep the license intact. It has been a great time learning stuff and I sure have learnt a lot from this thing. To all those who have helped me and this application be a lot better, I'd like to thank you and I appreciate your support.
Those who're looking for a new, bright start, can check out Cornowser, started as a project by fellow developer of UBP.
Also, the source code is still on GitHub, if you'd like to mess around with it.
Now has been licensed as "Beerware", meaning you can do whatever you want with the code. You can also still download the stable & beta versions from the downloads tab of this page.
It has been a fun ride with you all, and I hope we can meet soon with a new project

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions -
Where are the settings?
Swipe the address bar upwards to reveal more options, the gear icon is where all the settings are.
It crashes way too often
Can't help much of it, all I request of you is to allow me to collect the crash data (Collected automatically on crash as of v.1.4.6, user option from v.2.0), or provide me the logs if you are rooted.
More features?
Yes, I'd love to add more features to the application, but I'm short of time. Too much real life bugs to deal with. If you are a Dev and would love to contribute, you can do it on the application's GitHub Page.
ETA for Updates?
Can't say anything about updates at this moment, but I try to do my best to code whenever I have time.
Is Beta stable for daily use?
No. Although you can install and use both the beta and the stable version at the same time
My phone got fried. Pls halp.
Can't, you need to be too stupid to think that an application like this has fried your phone.
This application is consuming too much RAM/Battery. Help?
Provide me with all the possible details that you can, else I can't help you. Sorry.
Print functions requires me to sign-in to my google account?
Yep, Google Cloud Print requires this so that you can save it online or print it wirelessly!
Custom user agent? What is it?
You can find about it here.
Can you add "so-so" feature?
Yes, but I can't guarantee a date though.
Where is chrome-like sync?
I don't know how to add it yet, as soon as I understand, I'll add it as well as some other API's
Why is this not on Play Store yet?
I'm a student and I'm broke. Simple as that.
There are rip-offs on Play Store!
Don't install them, they've just changed the app name and icon to something else. You may report them if they are paid or have no license! Thanks
Nice! How can I contribute?
If you are a Dev, you can help me with the project, or else you may buy me coffee! (Bitcoin - 17Lm28deyBPquaz3CBVncFPPPSoPPwA3oQ)
More FAQ Questions?
Yeah, if I find more generalized questions that someone might face while using this app, I'll add it here!

UltimateBrowserProject
UltimateBrowserProject is a to-be Open Source browser that aims to do the work unlike any other browser. Currently, it supports the following functions. (And Probably many more!)
Custom home:
When you first log in to the browser, the about:blank page is shown. Use the overflow menu's Add to home to pin webpages.Use the overflow menu's Relayout to customize your homepage.Long press on a card on the homepage, and you can edit the title.
Switch tabs:
You can set tab switcher position at top or bottom of the screen by changing the settings at Setting/Browser/Tab position.Press the address bar and drag it down or up, then the tab switcher will be displayed.Swipe up/down to dismiss a page.
Remember that if the soft keyboard is shown the tab switcher would not display, it's not a bug, but an intended design.

Load in Background:
Set UltimateBrowserProject as your default browser.A Single tap will open links in background, and show a clickable notification in statusbar. Double tapping the link will show a dialog that allows you to open links in foreground.
Volume control:
In Setting/Browser/Volume control you can set the volume keys behavior to:
Switch tabs.
Scroll webpages.
System default. (Works as default volume keys)
AdBlock Whitelist:
Since AdBlock maybe cause some websites to display error, you can add them to Setting/AdBlock/Whitelist
Screenshot:
UltimateBrowserProject can capture entire webpages!
But Unfortunately, that doesn't mean you can screenshot a very long page, which may cause the browser to go Out Of Memory.
Material Design:
UltimateBrowserProject is based on Google's Material Design standards! and is optimized for Android 5.1.
Lightweight:
One of the main purpose of this project is to keep the browser lightweight and NOT RAM hungry.
This Browser was created by having heavy usage in mind, along with the lightweight-ness. So, Maximum possible features have been implemented while keeping the application size as small as possible and as less RAM hungry as possible.
Application Screenshots
Note - The Default tab position is at the bottom, which can be changed to top in the application settings
Downloads
All the download files, from v.1.0 to latest v.1.2.2 have been made public.
Click here to view all the downloads for this project
TODO
Add new features based on people's demands
Splat Bugs (Not Yet)
Add OTA updates (Although in app settings have Check for updates, OTA would be better)
More to come.

If you're talking about Mobile/desktop user agent for specific websites, yeah, I can try to do that.
EDIT: If you want me to make a "spoof" user agent, I suppose that will be a tougher task, will try though
Regards.
Very slick. I like having the address bar etc at the bottom. Much more accessible on a phone. One query: I believe adblock uses a lot of resources, in fact slowing the loading of pages and heating up the CPU while it does it. Is there a more lightweight option such as bluhell firewall or ublock which could be implemented?

Thanks for replying.
I am talking about being able to set mobile or desktop, but more importantly custom, user agents per site or per domain.
Habit Browser has such functionality, and it's the only browser I am aware of featuring it. Many browser offer a global mobile/desktop user agent toggle and that's pretty much it.
So I am always looking out for lightweight browsers that will have the UA features I've described.
I really love this browser. Its lightweight which is truely match with what you've said about this browser
I just want to check if this browser or my phone is the fault with delay inputs on forms such as textarea, passwordbox, textbox field.
Anyways setted this browser as my default love it.

mhmm I got you there, that would make this application heavier. I can try to store the data on the storage card and check if a website is Mobile or Desktop UA. But then that would make it RAM heavy. Will figure out a better way. Added this problem to my TODO list
Regards.

Well you're right, but not here. I made a host file containing all the adblock elements which barely takes a KB of space in the application. when you open a website, it just checks out the host file and prevents ads from being generated. Slowing the page is never a problem due to adblock. Plus, for the firewall part, it would take up more space, making it heavy. UBlock is the same thing as adblock, the same script and stuff. So it won't make much of a difference.
Regards.
Just some suggestion if you don't mind it Mr.Developer
Can you just make a shortname of your browser because UltimateBrowserProject is too lengthy so I suggest named it UBP instead.
Add data compression so it would cut off the data usage.
Save page for offline reading- which allows a user to save a page to read it offline like how the youtube offline videos work.
Export page as PDF or any format- makes users dont depend on online services to download the page to their specified formats.
That's my suggestion.
More features plus lightweight and not ram hungry would definitely top on the browser category if this would be uploaded or add in the google play store.

I'll try to answer all your requests one by one
I've thought of compressing the name to UBP, I may do that in the future
Save page for offline reading is currently in my TODO List. By that time you can use the "Screenshot feature" which screenshots the page at high quality.
Export PDF requires a separate library and that would make it heavier I suppose. Definitely not on the list. You can share the page to Adobe PDF app which can convert the Page to a PDF.
Overall I've thought of all the things you have as feature request to be implemented in the application. I hope this helps.
I'll still be trying out the Export PDF for my dry runs and that release won't be soon. Plus, by making it heavy, this app becomes same as G Chrome which I don't want it to be.
Regards
Can you add ability to sign into websites using your fingerprint for phones that have a fingerprint sensor? Would be freakn sweet!!!
