Yesterday (July 13) i suddenly got about 10 txt messages from various companies - my bank, amazon, UPS etc all telling me I had successfully unsubscribed from their sms notifications. These all came at the same time all from different short numbers.
I never asked to stop receiving notifications from any of them.
There's only two events that happened recently in regards to my phone.
1. I just signed up with t-mobile a week or two ago - and then ported my number over from sprint a few days ago.
2. about an hour or two before getting the txt messages, i changed my txt message program from the default samsung app to google messages.
While i was testing out t-mobile but hadn't yet ported my sprint number, i had no service since my sprint phone was broken.
Anyone have any ideas with any of that information why I would have suddenly gotten all those unsubscribe notices from all those different companies all at once?

Ok so one of friends used a have the sprint touch pro and it crapped out on him so he got a replacement touch pro 2 today and I walked him through how to do a pim back up (He sucks at tech stuff) and stuff and after he did that he had to call sprint to activate his new phone (Cant just swap sims what a PITA) so after he gets off the phone with sprint and the phone is activated he starts getting ALL and I mean ALL of his texts from the past year!
Also the phone started to randomly sending text messages to people and the messages ranged from "Happy New year" to "XXX" just the letters not anything dirty lol and some were just random words that made no sense. I personally got 4 text messages from him that he did not send and we know some people that got 13+ text messages from him to a varying degree.
Anyone else ever heard of this or had this happen to them?
that is a pim backup issue. It is software related and has been noted many many times
The guy above is correct. PIM Backup does this if you choose to back up SMS.

It's Sprints picturemail. www.sprint.com/picturemail IIRC. Go there and if you haven't logged in before choose the option to send your password via SMS. Then once you have your password log in and all of your messages are there. Handy (especially if you are on a family plan and want to monitor minors SMS's and such)
I've been using google voice for my text messaging. I've noticed that my standard SMS with ATT is not working for some reason.
I thought it was google voices fault, but my friends vibrant seems okay with both. Is there something wrong with the number I use to retrieve my text messages? It is

I was having the same problem and apparently AT&T fails in more ways than imagined.
When I upgraded my phone, they cancelled my messaging package. After logging into the website and adding Text Messaging as a feature for my phone, it started working. This may be the problem you're having.

+1 on SMS issue last to days I haven't been able to receive all my messages even after I clear all threads out.That is without Google Voice.
I can send and receive messages fine, with the exception of two people who apparently haven't been getting my texts. One of them is my wife that is on my family plan. I guess I should check if they fudged something up with her texting.
My girl friend on my family plan with me (who has an iPhone 3Gs) and myself are also having text issues. Some of my texts to her do not arrive, and nearly all of her text to me never reach me. I receive about 1 in 5 texts from her, and she gets about 3 in 5 from me.
The rest of her texts work just fine, and I'm learning today that about half of my texts from other people are apparently not arriving to me as well.
This is obviously *really* bad... it led to her thinking I was blowing her off all day sunday and took a lot of explaining to do on my behalf today, heh.
Might be a slow work day, so I'm hoping I can get rid of some the little bugs that have been bothering me....
1. Sometimes I will receive the same text message multiple times, up to about 10 but it's usually only one or two duplicates. This can happen over a period of about 20 minutes.
2. Messages get delivered several hours later or only after a reboot. There is not usually any indication that the sms failed to deliver. I sent a text yesterday to my brother, and it seemed to go out fine with no error message. After rebooting my phone today, I shortly thereafter received a confused text asking what I was talking about. The text I thought I had sent yesterday now appeared in our conversation with a timestamp of when I restarted my phone.
3. The stock messaging app doesn't give me any notifications at all. Obviously, that's not acceptable, so I'm stuck using a 3rd party sms app (handcent). Don't know if this is related, but I use Google Voice for my voicemail and that also doesn't give me notifications (have my voicemails sent to my gmail account as a workaround on that). If I open the apps my voicemails and texts are there, just no notification from the phone.
I know at least the first two issues could be an issue with the carrier (at&t), but I had none of these problems with an iphone prior to switching or when using the mediocre AT&T Messages app on this phone.
I was hoping these problems would magically disappear after rooting and installing a new ROM (viperXL), but that hasn't been the case.

For some reason I am not receiving all text messages . Random texts will not show up on my phone even though they show sent on the other person's phone. Getting frustrating bc I have missed some important texts. I googled the problem and it there was an article from 2 days ago about the issue without a fix available. FYI I am on the TMobile Galaxy S8+ ....anyone else experience this issue? Anyone know of a fix?

I'm with Telus in Canada. I've been using the Android Messages app. I have no idea how many texts I'm not getting but there's one friend who's asked me a couple of times if I got their text and I've said no. I've seen screenshots from them that show the texts they sent. That person actually uses an S7 with default Samsung Messages app.
There's another case today where my kid's school sends messages to parents via both text and email. I always get their messages twice. Once via text, the other via email. Today I only got an email message, so clearly it's not just texts from one person not getting through.
Just received some texts from two days ago. Not all texts, but the last few that never showed up. Maybe something is getting fixed?

Did you recently switch from iPhone? Sometimes iMessage messes up senders that use an iphone, and you wont get it.
On the flipside, though, there does seem to be an issue with texting anyways, or MMS. Like the videos look like ****, or, I have even seen messages that delayed WEEKS come through. For example, my wife uses Handcent, I use Samsung Message app. Over a month ago, my brother in law sent her a pic of our dog, which she forwarded to me...but I didn't get it until a month later, when she accidentally opened the stock messages app, instead of the Handcent app she usually uses. Then, I got all the damn replies a month late from the related group messaging.
This was happening to me weeks ago so is nothing new. Unsure why it's suddenly become such a worldwide issue in the last few days.
I've tried every SMS app going as well as the stock one and it doesn't matter which I use. The messages still didn't arrive.
My S8+ was bought factory unlocked in the UK and it's on the 3 network.
This definitely exists. I have narrowed my issue to long text messages that would be split into 2 or more. I have since switched to the Android Messaging app and no longer have the issue..... I would try it...
My issue existed with the native Samsung Messenger app.
Somehow my wife's phone number is stuck in a group with my sister's phone number, and I cannot get them separated.
Got a new Samsung Galaxy S9 Plus about 2 weeks ago, and restored all my existing data to it (including several years worth of text messages) from my old Galaxy S7.
All was great for about a week, I was sending & receiving text messages from numerous people - including my wife and sister - just fine.
Then, I THINK what happened was that on a text to either my sister or my wife, I added the other one of them to the message as an additional recipient, and I think that's when this issue started.
Now, whenever I receive a text from my wife, the message appears in my phone with my sister's number included in the sender field along with my wife's name as if it is a group message.
What's even MORE strange, when another person sends a text to me and to my wife (but NOT to my sister) - my sister's name appears in my phone as if she is in a group that sent me the message - even though the person who sent me the message doesn't even KNOW my sister!
Here is a step by step scenario:
1) My wife composes a text message on her phone TO ME ONLY (my number is the ONLY one shown on her phone as the intended recipient of the text).
2) She sends it to me, when I receive it on MY phone, the "sender" area at top of message shows TWO people - my wife and my sister. (My sister does NOT receive the message.)
3) If I reply directly to that message, both my wife and my sister get my reply.
4) If I compose a NEW message to my wife only (rather than replying to one she sent me), and send to her, only she receives it (my sister does not receive it), and on my wife's phone it shows as coming from only me.
5) When my wife replies to the message I sent to her only, on my phone it comes back as a group message with my sister
s name included in the group.
I have scoured my phone for text messaging Groups... I can find none set up. I primarily use Handcent NEXT SMS, but have also used the stock Messaging app in the Samsung phone, as well as Verizon Message+... same behavior in all of them!!
On my phone I deleted the entire thread of messages between me & my wife (over 1,200 messages going back couple of years), and also deleted all threads on my phone between me & my sister, deleted both my wife's and my sister's contact records in my phone, and also deleted all the forementioned from my WIFE'S phone, then also deleted my wife and my sister's contact records from the contacts in my Google account (to prevent them from being inadvertently restored to my phone that way), and restarted my phone NUMEROUS times during all this... then we start a new text thread between me & my wife only, and when it hits my phone it STILL shows as coming from a Group containing my wife and my sister.
THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!
I hope to be able to remedy this without doing a factory reset on my new S9+ as it's a RPITA to reload everything (all my data primarily), AND I'm not really convinced that will solve the problem anyway (wondering if the "group" they are stuck in together is in Verizon's mothership (cloud database, etc).
Any thoughts are greatly appreciated!!!!!
