How to get into download mode when not being able to power off? - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have a Samsung S6 Duos.
Model: SM-G920FD
I tried a firmware update with Smart Switch which went wrong. Now I have a blue screen with !:
"An error has occured while update the device software. Use the Ermergency recovery function in the smart switch pc software."
Emergency recovery isn't working. I tried powering off and then using three buttons to get into download mode. But it doesn't seem to turn off.
What can I do? Is there an alternative way to get into download mode? I thought about ADB but I never turned on developer mode in settings. So how can I go into download mode?

To power off push volume down and power buttons for 10 seconds, immediately after shut down use the 3 buttons to switch to the download modus

First try recovery?
I did it with the usb cable connected and then followed the steps which seems to help.
I'm now in download mode (Power-Home-Volume Down = Download Mode). But I have to find a custom rom first.
Can I try a recovery with Smart Switch before doing that? So can I ignore the screen of my S6 Duos:
Downloading Do not turn off target...
And go into recovery mode? By power off push volume down and power buttons for 10 seconds, immediately after shut down use the 3 buttons: Power-Home-Volume Up = Recovery Mode ?
Or will this get me into problems?

Have you installed a custom recovery? If not, the stock recovery won't do a thing for you.

I tried to get into recovery mode. But I'm just able to get into download mode. Somehow I can't get into recovery mode.
But what do you mean with custom recovery?

Stuck in Odin mode

When I hold the -vol and power on my 8013, instead of entering the recovery image, the tablet enters the Odin mode. And my 4.3 ROM quit booting. Is there a way to flash a ROM via Odin?

I solved my own problem, but I'm really disappointed by the lack of response I got from this forum. For any one else who runs into the problem, I apparently had an incompatible recovery image installed. I flashed the TWRP image and now when I hold vol up and power on, it enters the recovery image and I'm able to flash .zip files. I mistakenly thought the combination was vol down and power on, when, in fact, that is apparently supposed to be for the "download" mode.

[Q] Stuck after entering "adb reboot recovery" in adb.

Hey i'm kind of an android noob and i discovered adb, while i had my GT-S7275R plugged via USB i used the command adb reboot recovery.
This got me in some sort of mode that i dont think is really recovery mode (see attachement). The problem is that i can't get out of it.
The only things i can do are:
1. pull out the battery and get it into download mode
2. stare at it and hope for it to magically boot into its OS
3. plug it in via USB and then it will try to boot and then it stops again and then it will boot again but it will stop again...
Device info:
Model No.: Samsung Galaxy Ace 3 GT-S7275R
Stock ROM
Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2
Rooted

power off your phone!!
press Volume up + Home+Power Button together for about 3 seconds..
you will enter recovery mode..
then using volume up/down keys navigate to factory reset device and press power button
device will be reset and you will loose your data but your mobile would work
PS: You Can Power Off by pulling out battery

(HELP) Install wrong bootloader and modem

I need some help. I have been searching and trying everything i found but nothing seems to work. I have a 920i 5.0.2. I accidently installed the 920F 5.1.1 bootloader and modem. I am stuck on the samsung screen with "kernel seandroid enforcing." I am able to get back into download mode. Using odin, i tried to flash the stock 920i 5.0.2 and 5.1.1 firmware but neither are working. I tried installing the 920i 5.1.1 bootloader and modem via odin but no dice. An suggestion and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Try flashing stock firmware via Smart Switch.
1. Download Smart Switch.
2. Put your phone in download mode
3. Press "more"
4. Press "Emergency software recovery and initialization"
5. Device initialization
6. search for you device - i guess SM-G920i
7. Type in S/N number that was on the back of your phone.
8. Follow the steps and it should reinstall stock android for you.
Beware that your files and stuff will be gone.
I figured out, I was able to put my phone into recovery. I first had to go into download mode, but press cancel so it doesn't actually go into download mode, then quickly press/hold the buttons to go into recovery. I restored my backup from here.

Can you please provide a more detailed solution, please?
I am stuck at this all the time.
I did not use smart switch. My phone was stuck on the Samsung logo screen. Evenn though i tried to enter recover by pressing home+power+volume up, my phone would not go into recover. In order to enter recover, I first had to enter download mode but only as far as the warning screen. I canceled instead of entering download mode and quickly pressed volume up+home+power which allowed me to enter recovery. In recovery I was able to restore and flash as appropriate. This fixed my phone which was stucked on the Samsung logo. Hope this helps.

Stuck in Boot Loop After Xposed Install - No recovery mode

I have a rooted and twrp installed samsung s6 from sprint.
I tried to install xposed through twrp and now it boot loops. I guess xposed has a boot loop issue on stock samsung roms.
I can enter download mode but I can't get into recovery because the phone will not power off! If I hold key combinations to power it off it just keeps restarting. Does anyone know a way i can enter recovery mode. I do know i can flash the stock firmware through odin but i dont want to lose all my files. Is there a way to disable xposed through odin/download mode, or through adb if the device is offline?
Thanks in advance.

I had the exact same problem two weeks ago, but I was able to get into recovery mode. I'd hold Volume Down + Power buttons to restart it, then quickly switch my fingers to Power Up and Home button to enter recovery. Try it that way, it could work.
Also, you should try to install this xposed. I am on a stock ROM as well and this one works for me!

Reboot into TWRP after flashing it in download mode with Heimdall on Samsung device

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4 (SM-T700) and I want to install TWRP using Heimdall. It seems like I can flash TWRP in download mode (blue bar appears).
However, now I cannot immediately boot into TWRP. If I press power + volume down the device reboots into system, after that I can only boot to the stock recovery. I followed the tutorial on how to install LineageOS: https://wiki.lineageos.org/devices/klimtwifi/install
Is there way how I can boot straight to TWRP recovery after flashing it in download mode?

It isn't volume down+power. Volume down is meant to boot into download mode.
Recovery is volume UP+home+power
Or volume UP+power(if you have no home button)

Thanks for your quick reply! It looks like the only button combination you can do when you are in download mode is power + volume down. Then, when the screen turns off, immediately switch to power + volume up + home. This will cause the device to boot into TWRP recovery.

Yes, power off and then use the correct button combination. The various button combinations for the various bootable modes only work when starting from the powered off state, the fact that you needed to power off before using the correct combination "should" have been self-evident and self explanatory.
I was just letting you know the correct combination to boot recovery because you weren't using the volume up combination in your previous attempts, that is why you weren't getting into recovery.

I personally have struggled for a VERY long time to get TWRP working on a Sumsung device.
Most recently, I have used Magisk to patch boot.img that I was able to extract from the device.
Then I built a .tar.md file to flash that file along with the appropriate recovery.img using Odin.
Every thing went swimingly well and Odin stopped with a PASS.
However, when I rebooted the device, it boot looped in TWRP. System never got a chance to load.
I recovered by flashing the ENTIRE 3 .tar.md files using the same ODIN and everything recover and watch starts perfectly.
WTH could I have done wrong??
