Update stock rooted to stock? - ONE Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. My OnePlus one is at 12.1.1YOG7DAS2K1 and it is rooted with TWRP installed. Is says it has an update to COS 13. If I select to install it will it brick? My goal is to update it and have it as stock as possible without ruining any data installed. So what steps should I do?

Start by doing a search. Always start by doing a search, inevitably you will find a number of other confused souls unable to search, all asking the same question. You cannot install an ota via twrp.
You will need to either download cyanogen update tracker from the play store, and then in twrp make nandroid. Then flash the stock recovery via adb and install the ota or download a copy of the full zip and install via twrp.

Okay, folks. I need some help. I was not able to flash new Cyanogen ROM's so I tried updating my TF300T to the latest US firmware. Here are the results and where I stand now.
1. TWRP 2.5 is loaded in recovery.
2. Latest ASUS firmware is installed.
3. Lost root.
4. Tried to re-root and cannot. SuperSU fails every time I try to update the binary.
5. I wipe everything and can boot into recovery.
6. I tell TWRP to flash the latest ASUS firmware zip file.
7. Firmware flashes but then when I go to reboot in TWRP it says that no OS is available!!
8. I can swipe the lock and reboot into 4.2.1 but obviously no root.
9. I have tried flashing the signed superuser file and it flashes and says successful.
10. When I use root checker pro to see if I have root it tells me that I do not have root.
What in the hell is going on????????? Any help or outline of steps would be appreciated.

Bootloader info plz. Unless you were using the experimental CM10.1 build (or a select few others), it sounds like you tried to flash a ROM compatible only with an older bootloader onto the "latest" build (from your description).

GEM-702L, want to get rooted marshmallo installed. Screwed something up

I will try to keep it short and concise;
Had android 5.0.1 (if I recall correctly), unlocked it, installed twrp and rooted it.
Then used the local update option to get to marshmallo. Then tried to root again using supersu and it wouldn't boot. Tried restoring nandroid backup of 5.0.1 backup but it wont boot either.
I have searched for many hours and tried many different roms etc. I can only get to the boot animation and it just stays there.
I can get into TWRP and bootloader with no issue but have no idea if I can use the dload option if I can not boot into the OS.
Can someone please help me get this back either to the stock rom or a custom marshmallo rom installed?
I will be honest that I don't fully understand what it means when there is a prerequisite of "You must already be on B201 or higher to flash this" such as with the Simply International I have tried to flash. And am not sure what the EMUI version is or how it affects what can be installed.
Thanks for any info.
Hello
1) First of all, go into TWRP recovery, and do a full wipe. Then reboot and wait.
2) If unsucessfull, try out the downgrade file for 702L : http://download-c.huawei.com/download/downloadCenter?downloadId=81363&version=323452&siteCode=tw . It does install with official dload method
3) If it's not enough, you'll have to use ADB to fix your device I guess:
https://androidmtk.com/download-minimal-adb-and-fastboot-tool
http://lifehacker.com/the-easiest-way-to-install-androids-adb-and-fastboot-to-1586992378?
its use on X2:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=62829551#post62829551
(and following post)
pick up the file from your last installed (or nandroid restored) ROM to use with huawei update extractor.

but try out 1 &2, and come back here before using ADB, to have more precise instructions

It depends on whether you're using SuperSU or Magisk.
To unroot if you have SuperSU, open SuperSU app, then open its app settings, find the setting that says something like "cleanup for unroot and uninstall". That will remove the su binaries and uninstall the SuperSU app.
To unroot if you have Magisk, use the Magisk uninstaller.zip(might cause bootloop which then requires flashing stock firmware via Odin)
Or you can just flash the stock firmware via Odin to remove root. You're going to have to get rid of TWRP also which would require you to flash a copy of stock recovery to replace TWRP. Flashing stock firmware via Odin will replace TWRP and remove root all in one shot, no need for extra steps or tricks.
Then you can do the OTA update.
OR
An even better option is as follows.
The OTA update might even be available to the public to download, if so, you can download the update manually(not via OTA) then flash the update via Odin, this will replace TWRP, remove root and update the device all in one shot. This way, you won't have to do anything except flash the update and you're done. No need to replace TWRP and unroot before doing the OTA update. This method skips all of that and gets you the update without having to do all the extra work. You'll have to root the device again and flash TWRP after the update has been applied.
If you choose to do the OTA instead, make sure you are completely unrooted and are back on stock recovery, you can't have root or TWRP when you do the OTA, it will not work that way.

I have a new oneplus 6, os 5.1.10 is on it. how can I update it to the current version? no update is displayed directly via OTA. the zip from the oneplus side cannot be installed. is an intermediate step required? if yes, which one and where do the files come from? the goal is to install lineage, with opengapps Pico and magisk for root. but already fails on the ADB flash from twrp. can someone help me?

At first: backup data and phone memory.
You can do local update (download from official web site oneplus https://oxygenos.oneplus.net/OnePlus6Oxygen_22_OTA_045_all_2004142201_bdd6fdc6b6b1477f.zip, v.10.3.3 or from nonofficial sites 10.3.4, copy to phone memory, main directory, go to settings and system update, make local update - and choose copied file from phone), next after update and restart, do wipe cache, restart and you will see what happend.
Try to read oneplus guide:
How to upgrade system?
Download the software build for your device on this page. Please back up your data before flashing your device.
Plug your phone into your computer and copy the downloaded .zip to your phone’s storage. If you’re using a Mac, you can install Android File Transfer Android File Transfer for this operation.
After the .zip file is copied to your phone, go to 'Settings' - 'system update', click the 'settings' icon on the top right corner, choose 'Local upgrade', find the .zip file and click on 'Install' to confirm.
The update takes about a minute (depending upon the file size), once done reboot your device to boot into the latest Oxygen OS.

Question Install official RUI updates from TWRP?

So, I rooted my phone, for which I needed to unlock the bootloader and install TWRP. Now, when I want to install an update on my phone, it downloads and when I want to install it, it jumps to TWRP recovery instead of the phone's recovery, so I can't update my phone. Does anyone know how can I install the updates from TWRP?
Else, reinstall the default recovery. (Only the recovery, not the entire OS since that would un-root my phone)
Thanks.
Edit: After it boots to TWRP, it apparently tries to install the update, since I can see it on the log, but when I reboot my phone it has not installed. It errors: "E3994: This package is for "2169B" devices; this is a "". Updater process ended with ERROR: 1. Error installing zip file '/data/ota_package/OTA/.otaPackage/my_manifest_RMX3370_11.F.04_3040_202302282047.44.36402b59_all.zip'
Edit 2: After failing to install it, it prompts me to re-download it and re-install it, but it jumped from ~500MB update to 4.76GB update.
( may loose data)
I read in telegram channels, this twrp: https://www.pling.com/p/1922292 support installation latest zip. but I haven't tried.
one more thing you can do is ( may loose data)
1. restore twrp backup for recovery partition ( if you don't have backup. search recovery.img in upgrade zip )
2. reboot to recovery to check stock recovery is installed
3. install update
4. then follow steps to install twrp and magisk ( root again )

Your guide is incorrect and will definitely put the device into bootloop.
** The twrp link that you shared doesn't allow system updates to install, it is just a A13 compatable twrp recovery.
1) What if that person has not created any twrp backup of all system partitions? According to his explanation, I'm pretty sure he has not created any backup of the partitions.
2) only flashing recovery image and installing the update will again put the device into bootloop because as confirmed by the OP that his device is rooted and due to root the boot image of the device gets modified so it will put the device into bootloop.
3) unless the OP has stock boot and recovery images at his disposal he should not attempt to install the update to avoid bootloop.
** Kindly avoid sharing incorrect information you aren't sure about the correct procedure.
procedure that I follow to flash updates :
1) in magisk - uninstall magisk - restore images
2) boot device into bootloader and flash stock boot and recovery.
3) boot device and install update.
4) put device again in bootloader and flash twrp and within twrp flash magisk and reboot.
I haven't found any easier way than this. If anyone has, kindly put it below.
There's a way

So, any verdict on this new update for the people that did update to it?
