TOT root vs MM non Root h900 - LG V10 General

So, I have 5.1.1 root from the tot file, what benefits or downfalls would you say comes from MM update.. I feel like my phone isn't doing anything special with root, but maybe I'm just out of touch with what this ROM can do.
Friends refresh my root love please ?
Sent from my LG-H900 using XDA-Developers mobile app

I'm sticking with root. Copy a hosts file to block all ads and tracking, both in the browser and in-app ads.

The fact I couldn't control what programs started drove me nuts when I was using MM unrooted, the only benefit of marshmallow over rooted lollipop is:
- the fingerprint scanner is more responsive I can now use a full case and still have a functional finger reader.
- native control of app permissions is possible
- doze mode support which is a battery saving feature that after the phone is idle for an hour or so Android restricts applications and network access to save power, it's useless without root though, with root your can make it kick in instantly when the screen goes off instead of having to wait an hour or so for it to kick in.
That's about it, if I were to do it all over again I would have stuck with lollipop with root until MM got root support, fortunately for me the T-Mobile version can be rooted under MM now too. Which is what I am running now.

N762 rooting
So im looking too for root this device.
I already try z4root, superOneClick and some ather apps to root, no one work.
I tried permanent root, temporal... Still not rooted.
Have somebody idea haw to do that?
P.s.4 day later...
I didnt find the way how to root it yet but already have internet connection on my laptop via my phone whith this UNNNlimeted internet from publickmobile phone(ZTE 762). Speed is slow: around 1.5 mb/s. But it is better than nothing. also didnt work which torrents and some of online video players. But youtube always work.
No Luck
I've been looking for a way to root my MAX for the last few days.
Drivers I have tried havent worked.
And I cant find any device drivers for Teleepoch or UMX phones.
Here's more on the device: h.ttp://umxphones.com/cdma/mxe-670
I think its gonna be quite a while before the driver ends up on: h.ttp://developer.android.com/sdk/oem-usb.html
So in the meanwhile I emailed Unimax to see if they would provide one.
Ideally i want to root the device just to get a few apps off of it that i never use and that take up valuable storage space that were installed by the carrier.
Ill keep looking and post if i find anything!
UMX do not answer nor reply to any communication
It is pretty sad that there is absolutly no support drivers for devellopers. USB Debugging doesnt work since no drivers for the Teleepoch HSUSB Device.
Not to mention the spyware (sorry but to imo, something installed and can't be removed, with non-essential use, and that send back informations is an spyware) such as Easy WIFI, and the fact that if you just disable it, it service still try to run every minute or so, and hog the bluetooth media audio. Seriously, try it, for me, I was seeing the EasyWIFI process service come up and 1 sec after the bluetooth was jamming for 1-2 seconds. As soon as I re-enabled EasyWIFI, without setuping the home network of that app, my bluetooth stopped cutting... figure!
That is why, is essential that someone find a way to root this device, or at least a way to debug for developpers, and a way to get the original firmware from the manufacturer, without the bloatware ?
(Edit: I've tryed to phone UMX at different phone number, left multiple messages, sent emails. umxmobile.com recently seem to went offline and in the support section, there a ftp address... idk )
Thanks for any results you find !
Zte root
Hey i got the ZTE N762 , and im new to the android world so i was wondering is this root would work on my phone (the ZTE n762 from publicmobile) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1319257.
I just switched from Fido (45$ a month cityfido + 10$ for caller ID and voicemail) to publicmobile (unlimited talk, text and data on the island of Montreal) for 35$/month for 6 months then 45$, I don't need voicemail, only caller ID which is included.
With the N762 I was able to tether to my laptop with USB using PDANET v3.02, worked perfectly after I enabled usb debugging and so far I get the same speeds as on the phone itself (which is pretty slow TBH, but it's way better than fido's 2$/20mb data plan.
New to Android world too...
Ok so Yeah gonna introduce myself by telling yall what i be doing. So I wanna get ried of the twitter, the spyware, the inter grated programs that are stuck in my phone. You know the crummy clock, the lame calender, all that stuff that takes storage space in a memory card that really shouldn't have programs run such power to the memory that's powering your phone....anyway hope u get the picture. I tried every possibility to root the UMX. Recap I'm trying to use "one click root" I got the SDK developer kit. which i dont quite fully understand but for some reason u need it for "one click root" but "one click root" doesn;t see my phone. I thought maybe it could be because of USB not reconizing it into the program. Updating drivers dont work i installed LG drivers lol. My phone is not a LG. what im trying to say ive done everything i can to root it. And I am not proceeding to success just yet. I really wanna root my phone before any SOPA Bill try anything to get to my phone. Ill have spyware uninstalled. It would mean everything in the world to me. I would stop being paranoid of SOPA Bill. Or the NDAA Bill. Thats scary. We are in control. we are the users. and the 99% lol. Someone help us Root our phones....please and spanks - Splizzlah Savage
Well after installing LauncherPro all the ugly overlays around the icons are gone, looks much better with just the icons.
Also FoxFi in android market works ok for wifi tethering from the N762 most of the time, when it doesn't work, I have to pull down the notification bar and disable/enable wifi tether, and it will work.

It looks like the 3g servers block the tethering...
Can you help me please

What did you use? On my side, it doesn't work either with PDANet, FoxFi and Clockworkmod Tether...
How did you do it?
Thank you
---------- Post added at 10:49 PM ---------- Previous post was at 10:27 PM ----------
I found how to do it !!
When using PDANet, you just need to go on settings and hide tether usage.
It works!
You guys are lucky to get 1.5mbps, I get 0.3-0.5megabits/s where I live, I tried Speedtest.net on both the ZTE and the MAX, both give me around 30kB/s download and around 150kB/s upload.
Also to get FoxFi working you need this on the PC: User Agent Switcher for Firefox, just import this XML file
techpatterns(dot)com/downloads/firefox/useragentswitcher.xml
into it and choose a webkit based browser by clicking Tools->Default user agent. Worked for me, also I use my HTC IncS tethered to the ZTE N762 without any plugin, much more convenient to browse the web and watch videos.
How do you root this phone? Someone on here must have a method? I have tried evry exploit there is and every one-click to no success. If we had a custom recovery it would be easy, but i dont think there is one. Also, are there any stock images or tools to flash back to stock if we screw something up while trying to root it?(ie, odin, lgdp,or other similar tools?)
Also, every method i have tried keeps saying read-only filesystem for /system mount. Is there a nandlock or something?
I even tried using nautilus from ubuntu with root permissions and the phone in download mode to write to /system but it doesn't work.
Solved - Confirmed 3g, wifi, phone calls Public Mobile
I have tested a chinese rom that works in english. Confirmed 3g, wifi, phone calls, rooted, Public mobile, android 2.3.5 dev kept the rom stock just rooted with apps.
http://nolochemical.kodemind.com/rooting-zte-n762
Can someone post the network info for PublicMobile it would be good to archive it here while rom testing.
Real Method WITHOUT flashing chinese ROM
New METHOD!!!! I have finally found a way to root the n762. This method uses a clockworkmod recovery that i found online but lost the source link too.(I had like 20 tabs open at once and must of closed the tab,now i cant find it.)Credits to whoever compiled the recovery.
Steps.
Download the recovery.img
Download update.zip
using adb type: adb reboot bootloader
using fastboot type: fastboot flash recovery c:\recovery.img (make sure the img is in c: or just replace with the path to the .img)
when its done flashing type fastboot reboot
when phone is booted put the update.zip on the root of your sdcard
use adb and type: adb reboot recovery
the recovery will be upside down but its close to fully functional(adb doesn't work as well as some other things but it doesn't matter)
apply the update.zip from sdcard and you will be fully rooted!!
GOOD LUCK everyone
@bluntman420
Worked from the first try, thank you!
@sersoft2 glad it worked for you!
nothing for the max? or this method works too?
Not sure about the max?Don't have one to test.

note edge downgrade (LP to KK)

Hi, I have note edge N915F and is currently running on lollipop 5.0.1.
With LP, my battery drains very fast and random over heat occurrence and stutter. They say KK is better compared to LP(Battery wise). Thats why I wanted to downgrade back to KK.
I successfully downgraded my unit once using ODIN but after I install KK it automatically upgraded to LP(I understand that to stop this my unit should be rooted?) But after reading all the guides in this forum I wasn't able to understand the procedures/steps and I don't want my unit to be BRICKED. (NEWBIE here)
I need help on how to downgrade from LP to KK.
Thank you !
When you updated to lolly. ..have you done a factory reset? A lot of problem can be solved sometime just by doing clean install.

Yup twice or thrice done that, also wipe cache in recovery mode but unfortunately it doesn't help at all. My average SoT is 3hrs+(Is that normal for note edge) with normal use one game running(COC) but not all the time.
This is what I normally do...I know a little hassle...I flash the updated lolly stock firmware...which would mean I loose the root. That doesn't matter. I do a factory reset. After all done. ..then i root. Sometime I just don't trust recovery to do well in full wipe. There are times when I also do three times wipe...before installing other custom rom.

Here is also another tip on how to get good battery life: (of course people have their own preference, you dont have to do the same...but the following setting seem to give a good battery life).
1. In the notification slidedown bar, in the slider for brightness...set to 2, while maintain the auto checked
2. In the Wifi advanced setting.....turn off network notification, Turn off the keep wifi on, and unchecked always allow scanning
3. Try to disable most of vibrating stuff (notification, feedback or even keyboard/pen etc.. )
4. Under S pen, disable pen detection
5. Install auto disabler app or even the popular clean master app (have auto disable app). Basically this app allow you to disable some app to start at boot. Personally I disable all the app.....basically I just open them as I need. This way you can ensure nothing stealing your resources in the background. Dont worry in disabling all of them that are detected by the app, it wont messed up the phone. Personally I really think most of the battery issue is caused by something in the background running...or causing the system to wake up (unable to sleep).
Optional setting:
1. Always remember, using WIFI is better for the battery than the 4G data. So switching off data, while using WIFI is better.
2. Turning of location can be a big help....and only turn them on as you need them (i.e. using GPS app).
3. Switching the network mode to non LTE can make a big difference. Obviously this is will mean no 4G speed....but for some people that rely mostly on Wifi, this doesnt matter. For me I dont really think too much speed difference between 4G and 3G....Besides data can be costly too (at least here in Australia)
4. Turn on the power saving mode when you dont use the phone.
Anyway, give a go.....trial and see if your battery get better.....good luck

Sorry my bad, I should get a little detail. Personally I dont update my phone through OTA (which mean over the air, direct from your phone). I always download the file from Sammobile site. This is the whole stock firmware file or ROM. To install this firmware, you will need an app called ODIN. This app allow you to flash the firmware to your phone. In basic term, this ODIN is a tool to restore the ROM or the OS of your phone. Do a little search in the forum, and you will learn more. Considering you have recovery, and root....so I am pretty sure you are familiar with ODIN??
Anyway, currently on stock firmware BOE1 (N915G).....I am getting at least 5-5.30 hrs of screen on time (depend if I used a lot of wifi or 4G). I am pretty much happy, on average my phone will last more than a day.

Yup, I once use ODIN to downgrade my firmware. I get it now, I installed KK but after successfully installing, It automatically update to Lolly via wifi. My phone is not rooted BTW, I don't know how to root it that's why.
Mine is BOB6 (N915F).
17H 25m on Battery(34%) and screen on time 2H11m. Wont last a day, geez I wish I bought different model or brand. This unit is way too expensive but with poor performance(battery).
You can disable OTA updates after downgrade
Hi... I downgraded my Edge to KK and disabled the OTA app through ADB. If you search the Note 4 forums you can find instructions on how to do it. It's not difficult, but some basic knowledge of ADB is necessary.

Copy that ! Thank you. May I ask what list/items did you disable on the ADB or Debloater to block OTA.
Some of the items/list on my ADB:
wssyncmlnps.apk-----------com.wssyncmldm
wssyncmlnps.apk-----------com.wssnps
FotaClient.apk---------------com.sec.android.fotaclient
LocalFOTA.apk---------------com.LocalFota
SPDClient.apk----------------com.policydm
Thanks
I'm on AT&T. If you are on a different carrier, Your update apks might be different. Might have to do a little research to make sure you find the right ones.
These are the commands I entered:
ADB shell "pm block com.sec.android.fwupgrade"
ADB shell "pm block com.ws.dm"
If you change your mind later and decide you want to take the updates, simply change the word "block" to "unblock".
Easy peasy
Edit... Looks like maybe the FOTA is the one you wanna block. But, again, I'm not POSITIVE. ( I deny any responsibility for what you do to your device. ) I'd do a little searching before blocking anything. An easy way to check after blocking is to try to run SOFTWARE UPDATES in your settings menu. If you blocked the right apk, NOTHING will happen when you click on it.

i downgraded. i did not realize all the subtle features i missed with the alleged "upgrade" to lollipop. wow. that was the worst thing i ever did. got some help in reverting. i feel great again with this phone. since there is no note 2 edge its like getting a new phone. awesomeness can now resume.

Used S5 - Lollipop or Marshmallow?

So, I just got a used (but like-new) Sprint S5 SM-G900P phone, activated, etc. I see it's on Lollipop right now but an OTA to Marshmallow is probably available - I've not told it to update yet.
Is there any major downside to upgrading to Marshmallow then rooting?
Is there a major downside to keeping Lollipop?
Before upgrading, I'd get the msl and edit the apn settings with, dun to get native Hotspot functionality. I've heard reports that it carries over after the update. I upgraded before updating the apn settings and now they're grayed out. I prefer the look of MM icons over Lollipop. Last I checked, the root wasn't a true root but something called system less root. To my knowledge, I can do everything I need to/suits my needs just fine. I'm sure someone else will chime in.

SM-G955W Nougat to Oreo update Help Stop update please stop notification.

Good Day Boys
If root Rogers S8+, has anyone fixed this 80% battery charge and Bixby not working ( I Do not want to root )
I have yet to find anything on the web Google or YouTube on my situation. I have a Rogers Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus SM G955W and I keep getting the update pop up for Oreo. I do not want to upgrade as I'm fine with nougat. I made sure before all of this in developer mode auto updates was off. One day the pop-up came up and I accidentally pressed the update button. I quickly paused it and it's at 2% but it keeps popping up to keep downloading. I have backed up my full phone but I'm looking to find out how to backup the OS so I don't have to use a computer.
I don't what to update at all.
There must be a way to delete or hide this notification.
Also the reason I do not what to update is ( Don't Fix What Is Not Broken )
I use many apps that are not in the store and don't need to update to find out I can not use them.
I also use Carplay in my 2016 Mazda CX-5 and do not want to lose this hack.
Should I do the Update?
Apps I use that I'm scared will not work on Oreo. Anyone on oreo that wants to try or have it running??

Yeah I was like I want oreo for my 955w but sadly can't, unless you follow a guide you can definitely have 8.0 for 950 or 955w's
With how slow the Canadian carriers are with updates Oreo won't be around until the rest of the world has it then add a couple more months

Rooting and impact on ability to receive future OTA? - the last 5 yrs in Apple land

Question: Does rooting the device prevent me from receiving OTA updates? Do I have to "re-root" after each OTA update?
Background: I used to be really into custom roms, TWRP recovery, Xposed mods....back in the days up to the LG G2 and Nexus 6. So I am super rusty on Android changes in the last 5 years. I am now coming back from iPhone jailbreak land. I just ordered a 7 Pro directly from Oneplus.com and super am excited. I spent the last 12 hours reading up on Android related info. I plan to unlock the bootloader and root the phone right away so that I can #1 enable native tethering, #2 system-wide adblock, #3 youtube adblock.
I would like to stay close to stock as possible to receive OTA updates. The only thing more important to me than OTA is being able to #1 enable tethering. #2 and #3 are nice to have, not must haves.
I'll be using this device with T-mobile in the USA.
Your help and patience would be much appreciated. Sincerely, thank you.
Either re-root after ota, or just flash the full update in twrp then reflash twrp/magisk for root/recovery. If you want to hide tethering usage on tmo there are a few ways to do it but I use "
VPN Hotspot - tethering/Wi-Fi repeater"

I want to use native tethering (if it works) so that I can enable Tasker automation - turn on wifi hotspot while I am in the car. Although I like this option as well. I could connect to my home OpenVPN server.
Thanks. Sounds like I can just quickly reflash the two files in succession and I am good to go?
5+ years ago, doing this sometime causes problems when the version difference is very significant. For example, going from Android 9 to Android 10 OTA, I would have to wipe user data and start over. Not sure if it's still true today.
