I've found a Galaxy S6, but it's got a SIM-pin and phone pincode.
Now I wan't to flash a custom recovery so I could remove this pin and check if I could backtrack the user.
So I don't want the flash to remove the phone's data. Does flashing CWM or TWRP erases this data?
Nope, flashing new recovery doesn't erase data
i suggest before doing anything to the phone remove the sim card to see who the provider is.
Give them a call proving the number on the sim card, they maybe able to give you the name of the owner.

So, my previous post was a bit too optimistic. I've managed to get TWRP onto my phone, but when I went to actually load a custom ROM into it, I found that it couldn't read anything from my sdcard.
I'm having what appears to be a common problem: when I boot into Recovery, TWRP asks for a password. When I cannot provide it (because I have no idea what it is), TWRP is unable to access the data partition. Apparently, the partition is encrypted and I have no way to de-crypt it.
I've found dozens of other posts by users having this problem and the solution everyone is giving is to fully wipe the data partition and start over. But I *can't* wipe the data partition, because TWRP can't access it and fails almost immediately. I have tried a multitude of options, including:
* Installing old versions of TWRP - same behavior; asks for a password, fails to wipe/format the data partition.
* Installing ClockWork's recovery - same thing; fails to format/wipe the data partition
* Flashing back to stock recovery, using that to format my data partition; this worked fine but as soon as I put TWRP back, the problem came back.
On my last attempt, I used the stock recovery to completely wipe the data partition, and made absolutely sure that it never booted into anything but Download or Recovery modes after that. I was hoping that would prevent the stock software from ever re-encrypting the data, but somehow, when I booted TWRP, it still can't read my partitions. Note that my phone itself is not "encrypted" as far as the Settings application is concerned, but apparently Android is doing something behind the scenes anyway. There doesn't seem to be any option in the stock settings to turn off this encryption.
Is there any hope for getting a custom ROM onto this phone?
Thanks for the help!
Any solution? I'm running into the same issue where TWRP is asking for a password.
I missed accidentally delete all data on the storage.
I see many applications for data recovery required to root, but if root had to unlock bootloader before, if unlock bootloader it will wipe all data. Which may make recovery more difficult.
Are there better solution?
(I just want to recover the photos is enough.) T__________T

There is no real solution for you.
I wrote about it here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/general/info-storage-nexus-5-data-info-loss-t2534010
My Nexus 5 is stuck in a bootloop where it says "Optimizing app x of y" and then reboots and repeats this endlessly. I'm not particularly concerned with getting the phone working, I only care about recovering the data on the phone. All the suggestions I've seen involve factory resets which wipe the data. How can I recover my data?
Is the bootloader unlocked? Did you enable usb debugging? Tried wiping cache in recovery?

I'm not sure about the bootloader or usb debugging. Is there a way to verify? I have tried wiping the cache but it had no effect.
When you boot the phone, do you see the unlocked padlock at the bottom of the screen? If not, the bootloader is locked.

Unlocked padlock is there, so I guess the bootloader is unlocked.
You can try flashing twrp, boot in twrp, mount data partition, and pull off data. As with any flashing process, things can go wrong which can result in the total loss of data.
What data do you need from the phone?
I have the same problem,
but the bootloader unlocks and locks again after rebooting,
I tried to flash in different ways but I didn't have any results, I did fastboot recovery twrp.img and I managed to get into this recovery, but twrp asks me for my password(i dont have any password), and if I try to format this appear cant mount/cant open cache
Do I need to change my motherboard?
If you can run Teamwin recovery then do a backup, then copy that onto your computer, then wipe data, cache, system, dalvik cache
after this, download any kitkat rom, gapps, and flash it
boot it up, install Titanium backup anow you can recover every app from nandroid backup (menu > special backup)
then backup every app again with titanium backup (menu > batch actions > backup all user apps)
Finally you can wipe your phone again and install any rom you want and recover every app with titanium backup
Why first an kitkat rom? because you can't extract from a nandroid since android 5, but the normal titanium backups work fine

that seems like your filesystem is corrupt or the nand itself. Your phone is not unlocked so I think theres no solution :/ yeah replacing will help
That could be the solution, but I think that's only possible when you're unlocked: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76757221&postcount=2
If the bootloader relocks itself when the phone is rebooted, the internal memory chip is damaged and will require a motherboard replacement.
What exactly needs to be backed up with these new a/b devices?
I know data and boot are checked by default but do I need to backup system image, vender or vender image?
Side note what do I do when I can't unlock the phone after a data restore? Is it because of encryption?

Don't look at A/B partitions differently compared to older phones. Just know which slot your phone is currently working off of. If you received at lease one OTA you should be on B and every OTA will flip you from one to the other.
Depending on how resilient you want to be. Data should be enough, since Boot, System, and Vendor can be flashed easily using an RUU/ROM. Always perform a full backup (Boot, Sys, Data, Vendor) if you're going to be flashing mods etc. If a mod breaks something you can restore fairly quickly and be operational again. Knowing which A/B slot your own helps so you backup the right one. Vendor only really comes into play if you want to backup/restore to a full Stock and to ensure OTAs download/install.
Unfortunately restoring your Data sometimes resets your unlock pin, pattern. If you're able to boot up to your lock screen then its an easy fix hopefully. You'll have to boot into TWRP decrypt your Data(if you can) and delete your lock screen preferences (Handy How to)
If you can't decrypt your data then you're probably out of lock and have to erase it. To avoid being locked out of your phone/data. Before backing up your phone just remove whatever unlock method you have. That way TWRP will decrypt your Data by default and any restore won't end up locking you out.
When I start the unlock tool, it says that i might loose all the data. Guys who have already unlocked, did it wipe out your phone?
It did. I had my mi cloud synced right before I unlocked so I got to restore my data after unlocking
Yes. Unlocking procedure will clean all data including internal storage (files, images, songs, documents, ROMs and all).
It did for me.
Yes. But I guess it was because of installing twrp. That screen that pops up the first time you install twrp, where you allow modifications/write permission to internal storage, I guess that's what erases the data on internal storage. Don't know if merely unlocking would do that.
Yes it wiped the internal storage.
Also had to manually wipe it through the fastboot for the sake of twrp as mentioned in the other thread.
Unlocking will always reset your phone, irrespective of android version or phone model.
