If I purchase the g2x from T-mobile without being a t-mobile customer, will they provide an unlock code?
Go to the store and ask or call them and ask, best way to get solid answers

I think the phone has to be in service for either 60 or 90 days (don't remember which) and then they'll give you the unlock code. You have to tell them you're traveling internationally. It takes about 24 hours from the time of the request for HTC phones and the code is sent in an e-mail. I just got the code for my G2 which I'm selling to get a G2X. The code for the G2X has to come from LG so I don't know what their turn around time is.

I've heard if you've been a customer for (60-90? days), even prepaid, they'll give you an unlock code even on a freshly purchased phone. I've got a T-Mo prepaid card that I keep afloat with minimum top-ups for my trips to the US, so if I do buy the G2x or another T-Mo phone I should be able to get the unlock from them.
I thought it was mandatory now. If you ask for the unlock code, they have to give it to you regardless. Guess I was wrong?
Anyone here work at t-mobile that can give any solutions to non t-mobile customers who don't want to open an account?
I suspect this device is carrier locked, but I would buy one if I could confirm that I could use it on AT&T out of the box.
Compatibility AT&T 4G

Sorry nomisunrider, not trying to hijack your thread, but since we are already Hijacking the o2x forum
I have another question for Non-T-Mobile (AT&T) people.
My question is how compatible is the G2X going to be with AT&T's "4G"?
Also I am currently using Nexus One AT&T 3G, but I am thinking that I should be able to change that to the 4G service without altering my contract, or loosing grandfathered "unlimited data plan"?
Any input or info much appriciated

T-Mobile isn't in the business of selling phones. They'll only sell you a phone in conjunction with a pre- or post-paid wireless plan. As someone said, out of the box the phone is locked to T-Mobile. You can request an unlock code after 60 or 90 days of maintaining an account in good standing.

why don't you wait until after the 20th and most likely you will find them online unlocked..just like the t-mobile sg vibrant
I have a friend on t-mobile. Can he call them up and request sim unlock codes?
I am also in this situation but I prefer not to buy from ebay. What about unlocking services? Do they permanently unlock the phone? Does flashing a different ROM on the phone affect the unlock?

Cant get it right away, but I am sure it will be available soon.

I believe the G2X is unlocked out of box I got to review the device today and it has at&t options under network settings like the Nexus One.
If you purchase out right you can get code immediately (meaning requesting the code). If its an upgrade/new activation must wait until buyers remorse is up and not be past due or had an unlock code in last 90 days. I'm not at work now but that's the policy, I believe not sure if its 90 or 60 though can't remember. Hope this helps

I've been asking around and several people have informed me that if you purchase the phone for full retail, t-mobile will provide you with an unlock code. I also found this on wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIM_lock#United_States
"One of the two national GSM carriers, T-Mobile,[43] will unlock handsets for those with active account in good standing for at least 40 days and no unlock code request in the last 90 days. T-Mobile will also unlock a phone if the full retail price is paid and proof of purchase is provided through a faxed document. "

Sorry to inform you, but you need to brush up on your company's policies.
I just got off of the phone with t-mobile customer care (1-877-453-1304). I called them because I wanted clarification on this before I purchased 2 full retail price phones.
The program is called the "Sim Subsidy Unlock Program." It is for anyone that purchases a phone for the full retail price from a corporate store or an authorized retailer and pays all of the price upfront.
You need to call customer care, explain that you purchased a phone for full price and request a "remedy request form number." They will then open this request and you then have 7 days to fax the following to the Sim Unlock Team at 1-813-353-6557 :
ATTENTION: SIM UNLOCK TEAM
Full Name
Mobile Number
Email Address
Readable Copy Of Sales Receipt
It takes 24 to 72 hours to process and they will email you instructions to unlock your phone.
Yeah, if you bought the phone full price, then you will not be required to wait any time to unlock the phone. The 3g and 4g frequency will not work well, or at all, because the phone uses 1700 and 2100 for 3g and 4g. The 1700 frequency is exclusive to T-Mobile.

Hi,
I bought a T-Mobile locked HTC Sensation from the ebay. I wanted to get it unlocked from T-Mobile, but they will provide me the unlocking code for the mobile, unless I have an activated line from them. I found the following from the T-Mobile website, and need somebody who is a T-Mobile USA customer to help me out with this. If you are willing to help, send me a PM. I will send you the IMIE number, which could be used to get the unlocking code from T-Mobile.
SIM Unlock Code
For information on the SIM Unlock Code, refer to the following:
If you purchased a wireless phone from T-Mobile, your phone has been programmed with a SIM lock which will prevent the phone from operating with other compatible wireless telephone carrier’s services. If you wish to use the phone with the service of another wireless telephone carrier, you must enter a numeric SIM Unlock Code to unlock the phone.
For customers with a T-Mobile Postpaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 40 days of active service with T-Mobile.
For customers with a T-Mobile Prepaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 60 days of active service with T-Mobile and either a Prepaid Plan account balance of at least $10.00 or a prior refill within the last 30 days.
T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible former customers, provided that T-Mobile has such code or can obtain it from the manufacturer.
You may request the SIM Unlock Code for your phone, together with instructions for entering the code, by calling T-Mobile customer care at 1-800-937-8997.
i dont know if they do it but have you try calling htc? also i think there are sites that sell the unlock codes.
I tried for the past week to unlock via T-Mobile. Complete waste of my time. Too many wasted hours on the phone with them. And I WAS eligible!
I ended up buying mine for $25 from htcimeiunlock.com received it 10 minutes later and all was well.

I work in tech care myself and would like to clear something up. T-Mobile does not have unlock codes, period. IF you are eligible (must have an account obviously), your IMEI and account info gets sent to an unlock team, and they get the code directly from the manufacturer. It's not like they have the code ready and said "Go F yourself" lol.
What reason do they have to unlock a phone that is so new they obviously did not recuperate their subsidy yet and for someone who hasn't paid a dime worth of fees.

Not everyone has purchases their phones on contract. Some people buy them outright... and prefer them sim unlocked for traveling with.
I am one of those few people who do just that. T-mobile told me that I need to wait 60 days between time of purchase and sim unlock... Or I could get it done by a third party, usually $25 to do. Google "sim unlock htc sensation"
@stoneyjonez : Ok.. got you. Can you tell me if they would give me the unlock code if a person with a T-Mobile account ( long standing ) and asked them for the unlock code ? Obviously that person wouldnt have bought the phone directly from them
cellunlocker . net I recommend currently only 19.99 for unlock code and takes up to 3 hours
In the past I tried to get a Motorola ROKR E8 unlocked through them. I was eligible and they said they would submit something to whoever they have to submit it to. I tried 3 times and never heard back from anyone. Phone was never unlocked :-(
I would just go online and pay for one, you get way better service that way. Its not like $25 is a big spend compared to the retail cost of the phone your unlocking.
Thanks for all your responses folks !! In my opinion its a bit dodgy to send money to anybody on the net. I have read too many stories where the money is gone but no unlock code. But I can take the recommendations given by others and buy from a reliable service..
Usually yes...if you give your imei to a T-mobile customer they will give them the unlock code for it.
Here is what happened when I sold my Vibrant after buying my new Sensation: I requested the unlock code from t-mo, they replied in 24 hours that the phone would not be unlocked due to it not being the current phone on the network for my account. (I then unlocked the Vibrant by rooting it and using an unlock method via adb)
So I am guessing that a t-mo customer would not be able to help out, since the phone would not be on the network.
From what I have read on the internet, if you tell them that you are travelling internationally and would like to use a local sim, they give you the unlock code. Also, see my first post where I have posted the rules specified on the T-Mob website for requesting a unlock code and the guidelines they use for qualification of a customer.
i use my sensation on the network and so i called in to request my unlock code..they did all the button pushing on their side and said i will get an email within 72 hours with the unlock stuff...will post when i get it or what i get.

my current phone in the network is the sensation and i asked for the code of the hd2 and they gave it to me. and i didnt have to lie. i told them the truth, that i bought the sensation and was going to give the hd2 to my girlfriend and because she is in another company i needed the code so she can use the phone.
i guess it just depends if you get a good rep.by the way i did it via the costumer care online chat. i saved the transcript here it is.
Thanks for your detailed response.. Anybody willing to give it a shot with for my phone with T-Mobile ?
sorry man. i dont want to risk into getting in trouble. i bet others here are thinking the same. so guess your only option is to pay for it online. do good search for a reliable site.
I requested for an unlock code from AT&T and this is what I got back. This is the first time that my request was not honored. Needless to say, I was not a happy camper.

You seriously need to learn to GOOGLE before you email AT&T
Pretty standard - AT&T won't provide unlock codes for devices until they've been out for a few months. I think the magic number may be either 6 or 9?
But it doesn't matter... Pulling unlock codes out of Samsung GalaxyS phones (and the Infuse is for all practical purposes a GS in terms of hardware and software architecture) is incredibly easy.
Do they normally provide these free? Like instead of song oneclick or something this.seems a little easier. Im going to be selling a iphone 4 would they send me a code?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA App
iPhones are special cases, not sure.
However, usually if:
1) The phone has been out for 6+ months
2) You're a customer in good standing (e.g. bills all paid)
3) You've had the phone 90 days (I think that's the number)
They'll give you an unlock code if you ask. You often do better by calling international support and telling them you're traveling, that's how I unlocked my Tilt.
Easier to just pull the code from the Infuse though.
Congress passed a law that states they have to give you the sim unlock code as long a certain conditions are met. They normally have provided it if you have a business account and tell them you are going over seas for an extended period. As for the exclusive agreement, they may have been able to delay when they have to give it to you as they state. I would research the law to be sure. Or as stated above.....Google is Good...guud lol
To correct all. Any device that is exclusive to one carrier, does not have to be unlocked. Att policy is generally 6 to 9 months after release. Your account must be 6 months old or you will be required to provide proof of purchase. As of now, in all att systems, the infuse is listed as unlockable. These things will randomly change in time. If you want an unlock code, for an unlockable model, say it was purchased 2nd hand and you have no account. As long as the device is not reported lost or stolen, you will get the code.

But if i do, wont my relative have to pay the bill for the contract period? How people go there and get a contract phone and get it unlocked here.. its very cheap for them.
i know people do these kind of stuff.. if any one of u has done some kind of stuff like this then please guide me becasue i want note3 from verizon which is offering for new customers just for$200.
As of Dec 02 2016 theres is a total of 2772.00 bounty in effect
Open source for the variants are located here

Verizon, Att, and Sprint users with a locked bootloader have decided to put a bounty for the following:
Working root for the Lg V20 devices with locked bootloaders
As a plus a working recovery would be nice as well
Sometimes on a device there are methods, procedures required that go above the nromal developers or end users scope of capabilities
The lg V20 us variants besides the t mobile one is one of those devices.
Us users are requesting that established developers help with this and as a way of saying thanks and as tokens of appreciation have decided to reward the developer/developers monetarily
We are using the pledge method as directed by a moderator to be the most effective way to go
Please do not clutter this thread with non related questions or comments
The guidlines are as follows:
Developer and/or developers collecting the bounty:
-you may ask a pledger or pledgers to be testers
-must show working proof
-provide detailed step by step instructions on how to flash/get method to work
-need at least one person in thread besides what ever testers you may have used verify its operational
-provide the op with paypal email or where funds need to go.
-if this is a combined effort please handle the dispursements between yourselves or pm me with the way you want the pledge funds allocated
Pledgors:
-if you are selected as a tester do not share the work you are testing unless advised by the developer you are testing for
-do not ask for a eta
-do not pledge more than you are willing to pay
-if you pledge pay what you are pledging
@moderators is there any way to enforce this?
-DO NOT BE RUDE OR PUSHY IN THIS THREAD---I WILL ASK THAT YOU BE REMOVED FROM THE THREAD
100 dollars
30 dollars. Also willing to test.
50$ spot
$50
Count me in for $30
Edit: sprint variant
FYI those putting offers up: Pick either bootloader unlock (very unlikely) or root (quite likely). Bootloader unlock means you'll be fully rooted via TWRP within seconds. I already have TWRP ready for every variant - once one has it, they all have it. A bootloader unlock is worth MUCH MORE than a root, and is a permanent solution.
I wasn't sure if this qualified as clutter or not, but:
I'd like to make sure people understand that I will not be involved in any process to attempt to unlock or root the locked bootloader variants of the V20.
I do not participate in devices with locked bootloaders. (so please don't ask me, as many are and I find it frustrating)
That said, I am happy to bring TWRP to your devices if someone can figure out how to crack the signature verification of aboot in order to allow booting custom boot images.
I'd also like to make note to any developers interested in the task of getting selinux to permissive:
There's a lot going on at https://github.com/timwr/CVE-2016-5195/issues/9 and you may want to read through. A few methods have been discussed and succeeded, although this device doesn't qualify for many if any of them so far.
I'll put in $10 and volunteer to be a tester as long as I don't end up with a brick. ☺
Edit: sprint varient here.
I'm in for a $20 for the sprint variant
Sent from my LG-LS997 using XDA-Developers mobile app
$20 for a method that works on the sprint variant.
$20 on the sprint variant
$100.00 for root (Verizon) or $50 for working hotspot/Foxfi
$100.00 donation paid to @me2151
It's not much but I got a 20 spot for the Att variant.

$30 for Sprint variant
$20 for AT&T.
80 for vzw vareint, still have not taken any ota's. Can not unfortunately be a tester.
$50 for working bootloader unlock for AT&T variant.
Edit: I feel like there needs to be some kind of way to enforce bounty payments..
$100 VZW / $50 FoxFi/Wifi Tether
$100 VZW / $50 FoxFi/Wifi Tether
So far there is 730.00 in bounties. I will throw in 40.00 for Verizon BL unlock and root. Making the total 770.00. Maybe this is something @Chainfire could do, but I am not sure.
$50.00 for ATT
