USB 3.0 Cable Error - T-Mobile LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hello,
I can't get my LG G5 to to read in File transfer mode(MTP) with a 3.0 USB-C cable that I bought from Monoprice last month. Photo transfer mode(PTP) works fine with the 3.0 cable. I'm running Windows 10 64bit, MSI 970A-G46 motherboard.
I've reinstalled the latestLG driver and MSI motherboard USB 3.0 drivers. The 3.0 cable works fine in a 2.0 port. 2.0 cables work fine in the 3.0 port.
Anyone have an idea of what could be wrong? Thanks.

Bad cable or usb3 port. I have aukey usb3 cables and they work with no errors

Also what is the specific driver error code. You could try to install it while in 3.0 and then reinstalling it, but that's a small chance if success.

I've tried the uninstalling it while in 3.0 and it doesn't work. I'm going to try my friend's HTC 10 to see if it's the phone, cable, or computer.

Hello all,
I just ran into this same problem with my Monoprice cable.
The cable actually works perfect when you connect it to a USB 2.0 port. The specs for the cable on Monoprice's website says that it is a USB 3.0 cable and the USB A side is blue, so I am not sure why exactly we are getting this problem.

Possible they have some defective cables and you just need to contact them for a replacement, or they could just be poorly made and they have more of a chance then not to distribute defective type c cables. Be careful with cheap type c cables as I have had friends who have fried there ports with type c cables from China that they got for cheap ended up costing them a new phone because of it

After troubleshooting, I believe it's a problem with the LG USB drivers not working with my desktop's 3.0 ports. My friend's HTC 10 worked fine on my desktop.
I tried the cable on a laptop with 3.0 ports and my LG G5 connected. I'm on the newest H83010i BTW.
I'm also having GPS problems with this phone. I don't think I'll buy LG going forward as G2's digitzer stopped working and the G4 had the bootloop issue. There's always some QC problem with LG.

I just received the LG G5 (RS988 Unlocked model) and and having the same issue as you with my ASROCK Z68 motherboard (uses ASMedia 1042 USB 3 controller). The I can use the USB 2 ports on the board with a USB 2 or USB 3 cable, and File Transfer work fine, but if I use a USB 3 port with either cable, the File Transfer will not work, and Device Manager shows the same as in your screenshot https://postimg.cc/image/itzsip2fv/
I may order a USB 3.0 (or 3.1) PCIExpress expansion card and see if that will work, due to it using different controller drivers for the card.
EDIT:
FIXED!
There is now a newer LG Driver (4.2.0) than the one I downloaded earlier in the month (4.1.1). I removed the older driver and installed the newer one. This fixed the issue with using the G5 in File Transfer Mode when connected to my motherboard's USB 3.0 5Gbps port.

Any Roms that support usb otg

Are there any Roms that support usb otg.
I'm on clean rom 2.5 and can't get it to work. Also the few Roms I have tried it hasn't worked.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
CleanRom 2.5 (and 2.1 before that) and it works fine for me. Higher-drain usb devices might need their own power source.
What kind of usb otg are you using maybe I have the wrong cord. Did you have to enable any options?

I used what I thought was a non-OTG micro-usb-to-usb adapter, and then a cheapo OTG cable and both worked with a wired Xbox 360 controller. The cable also worked with a flash drive. I haven't really tried any other devices.
The ones I used were:
http://www.amazon.com/T-Flash-Adapt...UTF8&qid=1350406382&sr=8-1&keywords=otg+cable
and something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/SANOXY-Micro-Male-Female-Adapter/dp/B0027YYMU6/ref=pd_sim_cps_8
I didn't enable/disable anything when I did the tests -- it just worked. Possibly I had done something earlier, but I can't remember anything specific, and haven't done any specialized hacks for this.
Yeah I have the same cord odd. Oh well .
Thank you for taking the time to supply the links.
Is it possible to attach a powered hub to
A) Attach higher power-requirement devices that do not have external power
and/or
B) Attach multiple devices for simultaneous use (say, a keyboard and a mouse
??
(my USB OTG cables are in the mail)

I *believe* both answers are "yes". You can attach a usb hub. A powered one should give power to the devices, or you could try a "y" usb cable to provide power as well.
btw, here's a video showing off some of the capabilities (i believe this is the international version):

Shoot. I guess I'm not sure what else to try so hopefully someone else can chime in. I haven't tested it out recently, but I'll let you know if I happen to discover anything.
Works fine for me...just plug the otg cable in (I had one from my old fascinate I got off Amazon for like 3 dollars...and I can either plug a single item like a mouse or flash drive straight into it or a hub that can be powered or not...if you plan on using an external hard drive is suggest plugging it in...I believe the phone holds up to like 6usb connections at once but don't quite me on the exact number...I have had a mouse, keyboard, flash drive, sd card reader, and second phone all plugged in at once...only think I've found is that not all usb hubs will work for some reason...I use a 30 dollar (at bestbuy) belkin 6 port hub and never had a problem...to have it powered though you have to plug the actual power cable on the hub into a power source and run a usb cable from the hub to otg cable...as far as I know every room should support this...I used liquid smooth which is an aosp rom and it works great, also works great on any tw Rom as the capability is built into the phone...hope this helps anyone with questions about this...only think I haven't tried is a hard drive mainly because I have no need to buy one but it should work...and if it means anything I use all 2.0 cables and accessories, no 3.0 or 1.0

[Q] usb otg cable doesn`t work

I had my 7.7 for some time and about 2 days ago i've bought a cheap chinese usb otg cable from some shoup around here. I thought it would be as simple as pluging it in and connecting some usb stick like i've done with justabout all usb otg stuff i previously owned. But it doesn`t do anything. I`ve tried other usb devices, the tab simply doesn`t power them at all. I`ve also disasembled the cable and measure it, everything is fine. I`m on stock ics 4.04, also tried a couple of kernels, it just doesn`t work.
Has anyone encountered such a problem.? Damn weird....

errrr....I think I misread your issue and specific item...
sorry!
Still great though!
The usb otg cable is just a plain simple usb cable with a 20kilo ohm resistor placed between 2 pins on the galaxy tab 30pin connector. That's about all the things inside the actual cable. When you plug it in, the tablet should figure out that the 20k resistor made contact with the pins and an accesory was connected. Mine doesn't. The cable is fine, i think there's something wrong with the tablet. Doesn't it supossed to power on whatever you insert on that usb port? Because i can't get those 5v on the port.
I don't know if it's a software or hardware problem....

what file system is your USB Stick using? try formatting the stick to FAT32 and see if its a file system issue
have you tried using another OTG cable? I'm also using a china knock off bought for 4 bucks, running stock ICS and it detects most of the thumb drives I attached to it
thanks for the replies but the situation is kind of different in my case.
In order for the tablet to read what kind of filesystem you have on a usb mass storage device (stick, hdd, whatever) it must first power it on and then attempt to access it. In my case, it simply doesn't power on. So, it doesn't matter what kind of file format it has. Also, if i plug a mouse/keyboard, it won't work either.
I thought that maybe it's a broken wire inside the connector, so i took it apart and measured each pin. The otg adapter is fine, it should do the job. I've also tested on another samsung tab and it worked straight away. It seems there's something wrong with my tab. However, other then this, the 30 pin port on the tab itself seems to be working fine.

Do OTG cables work?

I've got an existing OTG cable with micro USB. Does that work for things like thumb drives and mice using the adapter?
If not, would this work?
https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0194WSKOM/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=A21TE5CLHZDYA7&psc=1
thanks..
It comes with a USB-C to USB-A adapter in the box. You should be able to plug your thumb drive or mouse into that.

I don't know why they would get rid of something as old as OTG support so I'm assuming that yes it will work.
yes otg works and the samsung smart switch lets you plug one phone into the other and transfer data
Just reading through the AT&T manual: it states clearly that OTG will not work through the supplied USB connector (p9). Nor can you use it to charge the Note 7 from a computer (p12).
With built-in battery too - hope the Note 7 isn't just another pretty fetish.

It is a DAC/Preamp. So you use the included microUSB to USB C adapter for your OTG cable?
Yup

idk but all my jump drives work just fine, same as my s7 edge.
just plug them into the usb c otg and tranfer files via samsung file app
Ok. I just realized that there is an otg usb to usb c adapter in the box. That one actually works just fine with my external dac.

I can't get my Oppo HA-2 DAC to work at all. I tried using the included adapters but nothing. I went and bought a USB - USB C cable and that also didn't work. The only way I have been able to get audio is to use a standard charging cable (USB - MicroUSB) and put the USB C adapter on the MicroUSB end. However this charges the Oppo from the Note 7 and I can't disable that. Will burn through the battery in no time! Not sure what else to try at this stage
+1 I have successfully used a SanDisk 8gb flash drive with an aftermarket Rankle usb adapter. I have an AT&T Note 7.
Cheers

I use the included USB-USB C adapter with a USB -USB Mini(?) and my Fiio Alpen. As you mentioned, the Note7 charges the DAC. This also happened with my Note4. You should be able to use a wireless charging pad to charge the Note7 at the same time. That's what I did when I was transferring files between phones. It's transportable but not very mobile.
My little micro usb fan does NOT work with the included usb 3 to microusb connector. So, i'm gonna assume OTG doesnt work as it used to.

USB Device not recognized / No fast charge

So I've had my S7 for around two months now, and all of a sudden fast charging just stopped working. Thought, oh, must be using the wrong cable (have loads of them micro USB cables floating around)
Now I'm certain I'm using the official Samsung fast charge plug and cable that came with the phone, and still no fast charge. When I try to plug into my Windows 10 Desktop or Laptop I have a message that says the device can't be recognized
Phone has already been rooted and flashed with a custom rom. Didn't think that was the issue as it wouldn't even show the mounted storage in TWRP, or identify the phone in ODIN.
Now I've flashed back to the stock rom that I made a backup of when I had the phone, and I still have the same problem!! Can't access internal / external storage using the supplied USB cable and can't fast charge.
I'm thinking the USB port on the device is just knackard.. but really, I've looked after it so well I fail to see how this could happen, unless it's a common fault.
Might just get a wireless fast charger, but do you guys have anything else I can try before giving up on the USB connectivity?
Cheers
try to connect to a different pc, if same it means your usb connector is faulty
Sounds more like the cable is bad tbh, you won't get fast charge from a PC USB port, only from the Samsung charger
But if the device isn't recognised by the PC, and won't fast charge from the charger, the common thing between them is the cable
Possible it's the phone USB port, but more likely the cable is bad
Afaik certain cables can not fast charge either, so chances are the ones you have lying around that are not the official cable can not support it
Genuine Samsung USB cable is white with the USB port symbol on both ends and the phone end has two small ridges to grip when inserting and removing it, should help identify it
Yep I'm using the official cable and fast charger
I'm trying to fast charge via the fast charger and not USB. Only trying USB to access the internal / external storage.
Tried on my desktop and laptop and both have the same issue where my old HTC m8 connects without any issue.

To fast charge I've tried the original Samsung cable with the fast charge plug.
To connect to the PC I've used x3 different cables that all work with my HTC one m8. With all of them I get device not recognised. Already tried installing Samsung switch and reinstalling drivers which didn't work.

I mean for the HTC, does the Samsung fast charge cable work to connect to the PC?
Does sound possible the phones USB port is faulty if you can't get any connection at all to the PC with multiple cables
Try changing the USB mode in developer options

I've tried enabling USB debugging and switching between charging, MTP, PTP, RNDIS, Audio Source and Midi.. all of them come back with the windows popup

Unfortunately not. Well it's been rooted and flashed so I guess not.
Ordered a wireless fast charger so hopefully that will see me through and WiFi network for file transfers.
I reckon the USB port will need replacing but I'm not really inclined to do that myself.
Just noticed you said you flashed back to stock using a backup you made
Have you tried stock using ODIN and 100% stock files, using CSC to reset?
My dad has a5 2016 with the same issue, and no warranty. I bought flex + connector , replaced it and still nothing. No fast charge ( it takes cca 4hrs to charge it fully ) and no usb connectivity. I gave up on that
@ClowsTyle
Any luck? I seen your recent post in another thread and it sounds like you tried to replace the USB but that didn't work.
I'm having the exact same issue now. Device suddenly stopped fast charging, Windows does not recognize it when plugged into PC. I ordered a new cable to double check and also tried on different computers. I also tried reinstalling drivers, but nothing has worked.
Hi my is doing the same thing no Fast charge and no pc connection, did anybody find out what happen with yours ?
You have to change power ic s535 for s7 edge.
When usb gets moisture power ic will damage.
I have same problem my phone charging 0-100 6hours but ı install notorious kernel and it takes 3 hours it is better than 6 hours
Same Issue
I've had the same issue for the past 3 weeks now and I've tried everything I know...
1. Tested cable and charger with another S7 and they work fine.
2. Factory Reset.
3. Changed the USB port chip.
4. Turned on "Low Battery Dump".
So far, the issue hasn't changed.
was this issue solved?
I´m having same issues whit my galaxy s7 active, I can not fast charge my phone no matter what cable I use, then noticed that evrytime I plug it to any computer it says the devicescan not be recognized, I´m about to buy a new charging port and install it, but I want to make shure this is not a software related issue.
I´ve tried several cables and several laptops/ pc´s
I´ve factory reseted my device and turned on low battery dump, wiped cache partition, and problem still there...
The charger could be faulty/damaged did you try a different charger?

I also have the same issue with my phone the phone charges but not recognize and also tried to change settings on phone and nothing? And my other samsung phone works and nothing wrong with USB tried to install smansung drivers on PC and still same issue.
I tried a different USB and nothing works and different ports on my comp.
My ports works with my other samsung phone so not sure why not with the S7?
Is the USB faulty?

One of my computers wont recognize Galaxy S8+

Does any one know a reason why a computer won't recognize a Galaxy S8+ when plugged in USB. To me its clear that drivers are messed up on the ZBook, but I don't know how to fix it.
I have two PCs, my wifes laptop and this HP ZBook x2 G4. All three of the other devices recognize the S8+, but the ZBook wont. I've gone into S8+ settings, turned on developer mode and turned on USB Debugging with no success. I've tried a USB C to USB C cable, as well as the USB 3.0 to USB C able that comes with the phone. Still nothing.

First off, thank you for your feedback and your time.
Idk if thats the issue in this case. My other two PCs have no problem reading it via USB 3.0
But lets say the USB 3.0 havok IS the issue here. Does the USB 3.0 havok apply to USB-C to USB-C? My ZBook (the one having issues) has two USB-C ports. But even when my S8+ is connected to my ZBook via C to C I still have the problem. I figure if the "havok" is strictly related to USB 3.0 and it still doesn't work with C then maybe my problem is something different, unrelated to the USB 3.0 havok.
I REALLY want to connect my S8+ to my ZBook via USB-C to USB-C, so that I can use Sidesyc smoothly.
My guess would be the usb 3 driver on your laptop, perhaps try to find an updated usb3 driver.
The fact that your other two laptops see your S8 suggests that problem is with the laptop rather than S8+ or usb cable
Will look into it! Thank you!
