N920P No Hotspot, No WiFi Calling No boot animation... Tried ALL posted but no solved - Sprint Samsung Galaxy Note5

I have the next problem with a Sprint Galaxy Note 5 N920P. I know the text is large but I wanted to try to explain all as well as possible to avoid confusions
The phone does not have the next native features and or native apps:
- missing Hotspot and Tethering feature from the menu settings
- missing WiFi Calling feature (is not important for me, however is missing)
- missing Sprint Bloatware: Sprint Zone app, Sprint Fun & Games. I tried to install the Sprint Zone apk but no luck, there is no way to get the apk run or work, when try to install it there is an error and no open.
- missing the Sprint boot animation (is not important for me, however is missing). in the boot only is shown the Samsung logo/animation as an international version of note 5 (Example: N920i, N920G...). The Sprint boot logo/animation is not shown neither running stock Android LP ROM nor stock Android MM ROM. Sprint boot logo never seen in this phone.
the main and most important feature I really need is the Hotspot, but native Samsung Hotspot as all others Sprint Note 5, not a 3rd party app.
The next are all I have tried with no luck:
- dialing ##RTN# = ##786# entering the MSL and erasing/wiping to "get all recovered as stock" but no luck. doing that and still no boot animation, no hotspot native app etc. the phone make a kind of wipe or reset but nothing come back as others posts says.
- dialing ##RCRTN# = ##72786#. again the phone make kind of wipe or reset but nothing come back as others posts says.
- dialing ##update# and others codes like this and nothing.
- flashing 5 different Stock Tar file downloaded from SamMobile and XDA (2 of Android 5.1.1 and 3 of Android 6.0.1). Under Odin options checking the following: Auto Reboot, F. Reset Time, Nand Erase All, Phone EFS Clear, and RTN for Sprint and some seconds after flash the ROMs the phone shows the RTN erase/wipe/rest, then doing this reset process but still nothing of I need come back as should and as others tell work for them.
- installing nova launcher that in other post say it can create shortcuts/toggles for some of these missing features but no luck, can't find the way to make a shortcut to go to the Hotspot.
- installing Power Toggles app from Play Store witch is a widgets that you can create toggles/shortcuts that are missing in any Sprint Note 5 from navigation panel. We have to remember even in a Sprint Note 5 running normal with all its stock features we don't have some toggles on the navigation panel like Mobile Data on/off toggle and Hotspot on/off toggle. for example, the Verizon Note 5 has these stock toggles but for some reason Sprint decided not to keep these toggle in any Note 5, S6 Plus, Note Edge, etc. Well, with Power Toggles app (free from play store) you can add shortcuts/toggles for some important features like Hotspot and Mobile Data etc. but when is installed in the note 5 we are talking about and try to go to Hotspot, the phone goes to the native Hotspot app but all is blank so there is no way to turn the Hotspot On or Off nor change the network name nor change the password because nothing of that is there, all is missing and only is showing a blank window only saying Hotspot on top and nothing else. I will upload a capture to understand better this.
- other thing tried is to install a MOAR custom ROM (Android LP 5.1.1 OK3) (Using TWRP Recovery etc etc) and when the ROM is installed still there isn't the missing features in the menu settings as should but, but in the navigation panel there is the Hotspot togle to go to the Samsung native/stock Hotspot app/feature and at this time the app shows all as normal showing the native stock Samsung Hotspot as should (being able to modify network name, password, turn it on/off and all as normal). Now with MOAR ROM the Hotspot appears to work but going through the toggle that MOAR adds to the navigation panel because still no shortcut from menu settings. the menu settings keeps exactly as with the stock ROM. the problem here is even being able to access to the stock Hostspot, I need a stock ROM running on the phone and other big problem is the phone lose the GSM SIM Card Unlock. However, I repeat what I need is to work in a stock ROM as just received from the factory.
- trying to install the MOAR MM 6.0.1 custom ROM again recovering the feature to be able to go to the Hotspot native Samsung app through the navigation panel where MOAR adds the Hotspot toggle (again, a feature missing in ALL stock sprint note 5 but as a custom ROM, the developer decided to recover these important features). After be installed, the phone is able to go to the Hotspot as should being able to turn it on/off, change Hotspot network name, password, etc. but also, again the phone is missing the GSM Unlock that for the moment only can be done running Android 5.1.1.
Other important detail. Days ago I contacted to freeza XDA developer and he had not this model but he told me the next: "it sounds like the CSC isn't applying correctly". In Odin I see a button called CSC but never used. always used the AP/PDA option/button to flash any ROM.
Important note: the stock ROMs downloaded from sammobile have been tested with other Sprint Note 5 and all of them work as should this other sprint note 5 I has here to test the differences. this other Note 5 has all its normal features, toggles, shortcuts, boot animation, sprint apps, etc. all as stock, nothing missing.
I hope someone here can help me with this.
Thank you
Here is where I try to force to go to the native Hotspot creating a shortcut with a 3rd party app. All is in blank

http://d-h.st/492 and download the app and install. May need to root if you are not already. Click change csc. It should bring up a preconfig menu. Choose SPR and install. It probably will factory reset phone so backup what you need just in case. I cant remember if it erases internal storage or not but does reset everything else for sure. After it installs spr preconfig you will have the sprint lte boot animation and should have all the features as well.

Thank you for your reply. I downloaded the apk and tried all exactly as you described with root access. When tried with stock android 6.0.1 [PC3] with root access, the only it comes back is the boot animation, it is a small step because I hadn't seen the booth animation in this phone, but the hotspot, sprint stock and wifi calling are still missing. I tried downloading a Hotspot/Tethering shortcut app from play store to try to go to the hidden feature but no luck, the hotspot screen is shown in blank exactly as the first capture attached in this post. When tried in stock android 5.1.1 rooted neither the boot animation nor hotspot feature come back, in android 5.1.1 the app appears to do nothing apart the wipe.
the CSCselect app has others options as shown is your capture. I haven't tried the others because Im not developer and don't know if could brick the device. Please let me know if trying with the others can do something, or maybe other solution

oh, sorry because I wrote all fast. when I say missing "sprint stock" I mean still missing sprint stock apps = missing Sprint Bloatware: Sprint Zone app, Sprint Fun & Games. If not on sprint network It is something anyone want but in my case is important because is part of the stock environment of this phone. However the most important feature I need is the native Hotspot and Tethering app.

Pc3 might be the issue not entirely sure but as you can see in my photos pc3 has a XAS code and the newest pd2 shows SPR. All the choices for preconfig are SPR-sprint XAS-like international/general BST-boost VMU- virgin mobile. These all (i think) run from sprint towers but each has its own set of features/options. Here is a link for sprint zone https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_ySqznuS1_rdXVIME9ET3ZnLW8/view?usp=drivesdk and here is link for pd2 http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/72883/N920PVPU2BPD2_N920PSPT2BPD2_SPR/ you have to set up an account (free) with sammobile prior to downloading and it will take awhile unless u pay for premium but i havent so not positive if it is or not. I would download pd2, flash in odin and check f reset, nand erase all, rtn for sprint, efs clear, auto reboot. That should do it for you but if not, you could root and check preconfig again although with pd2 it should set it. Here is a link that step by steps it in more detail, for a different issue but related in the end result. You could also try the firmware in that thread it may be faster to download and it is still sprint official, if usng that I would take the official update via the phone itself before rooting it that way your certain everythings official. http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...torial-enable-true-spark-lte-missing-t3191444

Idk where if pics are showing up...i upload them but it doesnt appear to me at least...

Ill try on here...

Guess with just commenting and then editing that comment to go advanced and add attatchments they dont appear, in the answer option while going advanced they do, apologies about wasting an answer boo boo vote for me jkjk

Here is a zip i put together of all of the sprint related or possibly related to your issue apks extracted from stock sprint firmware, some were in /system/apps but mostly /system/priv-apps. Not 100% positive exactly what a few of them do but im not sure how any of them could hurt unless diff carrier or model. https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_ySqznuS1_rSVpLaUlSTkZLVFE/view?usp=drivesdk

Adding captures
Thank you for your great work and for have all well explained
Detail 1:
Previous week I had tested all said in that post of the link you put above but there is a problem with that possible solution and is that once you take the update to OI6 or use the OI6 TAR, YOU CAN NOT GO BACK TO OGD, and OGD is the first firmware available for this model (N920P). So after the (OI6) Stock ROM you can't downgrade to the original OGD. I tried to downgrade and Odin always gave an error and no possibility to flash the OGD stock ROM. the first 4-5 times I tried I thought could be the Rom was corrupted but I downloaded the OGD Rom from 2 different sources, from Sammobile and from that post, and always I tried to flash I had the same result. Then it was confirmed you can't go back in other XDA treat here in XDA you can see in the next link, in the first lines of text:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-note5/general/how-to-root-instructions-t3187895
I have tried all of these 2 posts:
this one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/spr...torial-enable-true-spark-lte-missing-t3191444
and this other
http://forum.xda-developers.com/sprint-galaxy-note5/help/wifi-calling-t3183224
Detail 2:
When I download a stock firmware from sammobile I always choose the SPR code version of the ROM, and I never downloaded any ROM with XAS Product code version, so I think that's no the problem. I also will upload 2 set of captures from both N920P I have, showing the PhoneINFO app running in both phones and showing the CSC and other important information. All is exactly the same except actually the one with problems is running PD2 firmware and the the other that is running all with no problems has PC3 firmware.
Detail 3:
I have tried to get the original stock pre configuration with the CSC Select app you put below trying with PD2, PC3 and OK3 firmware and no luck with any of them. with Android 6.0.1 rooted (PD2 and PC3) the only comes back is the Sprint LTE Plus boot animation but no the hotspot. Also as told you previously, when I install an app to create a shortcut to go to the "hidden" hotspot native app the only I get is a blank and empty window as the first capture attached in starting this post, showing the hotspot app as if it would be disabled or something similar.
Detail 4:
When I try to install the "Sprint Zone 5.5.055.apk" it appears to get installed and the first time I try to open it, it ask for some permissions but at time to open the app stops getting an error and never running as if the phone has something that disable all Sprint features. So I don't understand what is happening with this phone. I'm not a developer but I have enough time working with my owns phones flashing firmwares with Odin since Galaxy S3 and this is the first time I see this. in the past any issue got solved just flashing an stock firmware and this include software issues, unroot process, or any other thing. All got solved in that way but with this phone nothing appears to work to recover it as the factory and I don't think could be any hardware issue because the rest of the phone works well and as described in the first of this post, these features I need work well with a custom Rom.

Here are the captures. I can't find the way to get them visible as a comment. And no problem with your last response yesterday, you are only trying to help, so thank you

Doin an answer to add pics, Ya apologies if i repeated things youve done, alot to remember but truly frustrating as to why it wont fix. Im sure you have but just because sometimes the small steps are the big ones in the end, after flashing a stock rom did you do a factory reset afterwards? As for the pics, I notice two details that u probably are aware of but could help the end result by correcting them. The mnc on the one that dont work is 000 (310 000) and the other is 310 120. It is said to be ok to leave the mnc at 000 but in this case id try to get everything sprint official which would be 310 120. You can do this with some root apps but best would be APN either added or edited. In the end it shouldnt matter with the mnc where the mcc (310) is definitive but for initial setup maybe its needed. Also, do you have service on either phone? I see no bars on either, im not sure if itd be displayed to set up if no service exists but im guessing that uve tried with service. Lastly, the hardware revision on one is n920p04 and its the working one. I have a 32gb and mine too is n920p04. On the one that doesnt work its hardware n920p03. Both of yours are 64gb, mine is 32, the ones that work are different hardware but same hardware number. The one that doesnt work youd think would have same as the other 64 but it doesnt and has a diff one all together. May be something to look into. Ill post my phone info and my apn as well, ill see if i cant find anythint else related to hardware numbers or the issue in general. I know u didnt mention it as happening, but there is/was a bug goin around with mm/flashing that resulted (4 times for me) in the phone not having any service, no baseband num or any info under the settings-status/about device as well as no imei info and the phone just rebooted every minute as if it would try to get signal but no bars would appear as ur pics show and its just reboot constantly. The fix was to let it die completely and then charging until 15% and turning back on which it then activated just fine. All the times tho for me the sure way of knowint was it rebooting constantly however may not hurt to try, just let it die, I did in download mode and then i booted back to download mode until it wouldnt anymore as it still reserves some juice after turning off and when it wouldnt anymore i charged until 10 (case u have to try again) and voila.

I think hardware revision has to do with some fix they did for the spen going in backwards idk for sure but did see alot of results for note 5 hardware revision number that mentioned a hardware fix for that so maybe the 03 is just spen backwards compatible and 04 is not. When you installed the apps i zipped for whichever ones you tried did you use a root file browser and copy them to /system/priv-app or /system/app? The VOwifi was in a folder called VoWiFi in /system/priv-app and the wifi calling was in one called WifiCalling in /system/priv-app. Might have to create the folder in that system/priv-app and move the apk to the folder and u should be able to just reboot and it installs automatically as a system app. I didnt have sprint zone with this custom rom but did find a apk on a thread that worked just by installing it normally, it is different then the one i had in the zip and I apologize but this one should work for sure https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_ySqznuS1_rVlVqY2dNbUk4cE0/view?usp=drivesdk

This q&a layout is off the chain lol. I dont know why it quoted the entire post again ive made a encyclopedia lookalike of information with no resolution but plenty of answers lol. Did u set it up as a q&a or have the connect at xda? I admit it was flashy and drew my attention to it but double disappointing when the posts arent correct, usually its a post thats buried no biggie its passed by, on here its the answer and so a little more pressure but at this point its out of hand and i apologize. I hope it dont quote everything before this if so i retire :-/ unsuccessfully

Q&A method needs worked on! Lol auto quote when u comment on a post jeezlaweeez. Can edit and go advanced to add attatchments that dont actually post and can only be done via the answer. Ive ruined this thread, adding as an answer so it dont triple quote my last 4 posts and also to sincerely apologize for ruining the OP thread.

Im so confused and feel ridiculous. I swear on each comment it quoted the one before it and was real long so I felt bad and added an answer so it wouldnt quote to explain and apologize, posted it and come back and the repeated quotes are gone and i look insane lol. Moreso then before. I was wonderin y no one posted anything before i did, q&a can weed out the jackA of the day and i jumped right in that one

[Q] Verizon Galaxy Tab 2.0 7" (SCH-i705) Questions

I've done quite a bit of researching but cannot find an answer I'm confident in, so...
Has anyone had success getting telephony to work on these devices? I recently updated to 4.1.2 with the OTA update from this forum. However, before I did that, I was on 4.0.4 (factory), then on the DoubleShot kernel and rom. I rooted, unlocked the boot loader, modified framework-res.apk to enable phone (one of the bools files has a line something like "phone_enabled...>false<...". After doing this, recompiling, and reflashing the rom, I was able to place outgoing "true voice calls" -- no Google Voice, no Groove IP, but a REAL voice call (with 1G or whatever the base mode for voice/SMS is). These calls originated from the VZW number associated with the sim card in the Tab. I was NOT able to receive incoming calls or send/receive SMS text. I tried everything I could think of to get these to work -- no go.
---Fast forward, aver several days of flawless outgoing phone calls---
Flashed the OTA 4.1.2 (and TrustZone and the modem) and everything worked initially. Tried to edit the framework-res.apk again, exactly as before. re-applied the update with CWM (and TZ/modem to be safe) with edited framework-res. CWM said successful, but the device would hang on the boot screen.
Any ideas how to enable phone, or why my previous method didnt work with 4.1.2?
Also, if anyone knows how to get rid of the ongoing WiFi notification (even when connected, wifi off, etc), that would be AWESOME! I know some people long-press the notification -> app info -> kill app, and that works until wifi status changes.
I've actually been trying to figure out the telephony thing myself but could not find it. Glad you did! I'll see if I what I can do also. I'd love to enable telephony on this tab and include it in doubleshotrom. Let me know if you figure it out.
For wifi - view this thread regarding the S3 [HACK] Remove WiFi reminder
It used to work on this tab on 4.0.4, don't know if it changed in 4.1.2
I'm glad you saw this thread MrHyde. I've been following along silently in the development forum (almost to 10 posts haha)
Do you have any ideas what the difference might be between 4.0.4 and 4.1.2 that would cause such a different result (failure to boot after flashing)?
I'm going to try going to the DoubleShot JB kernel (hopefully tonight) and see if it helps. Does the new DoubleShot for JB swap the storage mount points? If it does, how can I disable it? Switching back and forth between installs that don't BOTH do this is becoming a problem for me.
For the failure to boot, you need to install the TZ (trust zone). It's listed under the Requirements heading in the DoubleshotROM thread, or you can grab it from the OTA thread.
Yes the new dsr does swap the sdcards. To stop it, three ways:
1. After flashing, use adb (from CWM) or the built in file manager (TWRP) to delete /system/etc/init.d/ExtSd2InternalSd
2. Open up the ROM zip and go to /system/etc/init.d/ExtSd2InternalSd and delete it, then flash
3. Flash it normally, then use a file manager to delete /system/etc/init.d/ExtSd2InternalSd, then reboot.
Edit: just read it again and completely missed the point lol. I dont know why it would fail, but im gonna take a look. Cant imagine its much
Could you tell me exactly which file contained this phone bool? I can't seem to find it..
Decompile framework-res.apk
Look in /res/values/bools.xml
Toward the bottom, a like says something like "phone_enabled=false"
Remember, doing this, I was only able to make outgoing calls--no incoming, no sms.
You mean "config_voice_capable"?
I get a bootloop.. I think the framework-res.apk isn't recompiling properly. logcat just shows a bunch of errors
Yeah that's it. What are you using to repack?
Can you post your error log?
Now that i have time to look into it more, i think it may have something to do with the non-hlos modem we've flashed for the OTA JB.
do you think this is feasible?
Any way to unlock this I705 for using with Tmobile SIM card?
Any breakthroughs here? I would love to use my TAB as a phone.
Any updates on getting telephony to work? What would happen if you flashed the ROM for the Note II onto the tab 2? Or would this work at all? I would really like to make the tab 2 my primary phone.
Thanks.

I am also thinking the same,I just wanted to flash Galaxy S4 firmware in my galaxy tab 2 7"

I was able to do it with ICS. Ever since I flashed DoubleShot Rom (JB), I haven't been able to figure out how to get it to work again. The method that worked for ICS does not work for JB.
I've only been able to get an outgoing call, but it goes straight to my own vmail. No other success.
Its personally not that important to me, though.
Sent from my SCH-I535 using XDA Premium HD app
I'm getting really close to ending my 25 year business relationship with Verizon. I'm tired of piss-poor service, even though their coverage map indicated solid 4g signal and their representatives confirm I should have good service at my address. It isn't only my home address, but many other locations bi frequent. So one of two things -- either all 5 devices on my account are defective, or their coverage maps are misrepresented. Either way, Sprint is getting better in this area, has the Note II, and is significantly cheaper. And the Tab 3 8.0 is only slightly longer than the SCH-i705.
Few more questions here.
What did you use to modify the framework-res.apk to enable phone?
What did you use to de-compile, is it a special program or what? Same with recompiling.
I wonder what would happen if you got a SIM card that is used for a phone and used it in the tablet. Would this allow the phone calls and text to come in? This is something I would be willing to try if I could get the tablet to the point that it had the dialer on it.
Next why is it when I go to sammobile.com I am unable to find the SCH-I705 listed at all?
Like I mentioned in an earlier post would it be possible to flash the ROM from a Galaxy Note II or similar phone to the Tab 2?
Thanks.

A SIM card from a cell phone might work if cell data was enabled properly.
sammobile does have 1 firmware version available. I dont know if its still there, but I nabbed it when I saw it.
http://garrettek.com/android/SCH-I705/ROMs/4.1.2/I705VRBLL2_I705VZWBLL2_VZW.zip (VRBLL2 JB 4.1.2 official, tested, working)
No. do not flash Note II ROMs on your tab 2. The ONLY device that is remotely compatible with the tab 2 lte is the verizon gs3. Except, if you flash a vzw gs3 rom, your display drivers won't work properly. Everything else will, but display drivers won't. One way around this is to flash the i705 kernel over top a i535 rom. But even then, no guarantees it won't break your tab.
It worked for me back on 4.0.4 (except the kernel).
Ok, I no longer have verizon service and would like to know if there is a way to switch it somehow so I can use CM/other roms.
Since I dont have the verizon 4g service and only using the WIFI.
Hope I worded that right.
Anyone?!

FIXED - Freedompop (Sprint), 4G/LTE and custom ROM

It appears that 4G doesn't work with FreedomPop and most custom ROMs. It seems like either custom roms are detected by FreedomPop and disactivated from 4G, or (more likely) most ROMs have the wrong 4G information wrong for FreedomPop.
It could well be that most roms incorrectly detect the FreedomPop 4G network as Sprint. I know a similar problem exists with Credo Mobile, in which case changing the APN network information solves the issue.
Moreover, on reddit someone claims 4G works on cyanogen 7 but not on later version. Maybe that could help solve the issue?
I'd be very happy if one of you could help me figure what is wrong, or if you got 4G to work with a custom ROM on FreedomPop.
Solved!
Basing myself on the Boost Mobile APN fix, I made a new fix that should give 4G/LTE to FreedomPop users.
Download the FreedomPop fix here.
Just download the fix, put it on your phone, boot into your recovery (I suggest Philz), select Install Zip, and install the fix.
This new fix, compared to the previous one has the benefit of providing an extra APN (n.f6.ispsn) that should give superior performances. Moreover, the fix should be more robust, being based on the Boost Mobile fix instead of the Ting fix. Finally, it will also display "FreedomPop" (instead of Sprint) as your provider.
The previous method is also listed here in case it is of interest to you.
Previous method:
I found a way to get 4G on FreedomPop with Cyanogenmod 11! Just follow these simple instructions:
1. Download the Ting APN fix for Android 4.4 on your PC
2. Unzip the Ting APN fix somewhere.
3. Replace the apns-conf.xml file in system/etc/ directory of the unzipped Ting APN fix with this file: http://www.mediafire.com/view/25xozc3p6okf8zw/apns-conf.xml
4. Re-zip the Ting APN fix (with the modified apns-conf.xml), and put in on your phone.
5. Boot to Philz recovery, select Install Zip, and install the modified Ting APN fix. Voila! 4G/LTE should work (make sure to enable it in settings/mobile networks!)
Note that this will work on the S3, but may not work on other phones. To obtain proper apns-conf.xml file, I recommend you flash to 4.3 stock rom, and copy the apns-conf.xml file from /system/etc/apns-conf.xml file of your android and use that instead for step 3.
Freedompop phone to a Sprint Account
Hey guys, I have a nice Freedompop Galaxy s3 that came straight from FP rooted with their proprietary ROM. But the FP ROM is designed to use VOIP to make all calls and seems to do away with any actual cdma(?) dialer altogether. It's a nice phone for $200.00 and I think I'd like to keep it. But when I tried to activate it on my Sprint account, they get an error on their end and don't recognize it.
This question is for you hardcore developers out there. How can I completely reprogram it to a rooted sprint firmware with a dialer and activate it in place of my older HTC 4G LTE. But also "save" the FP ROM for restore if it won't activate. I have til October to return it, so I thought I'd play.
You should also know 1) that FP definitely runs on the sprint network and seems to work exclusively through their 3g/4g lte service (hence the proprietary ROM and no solid phone connectivity); 2) this galaxy is marked as "refurbished" (in pristine condition) and has no Sprint logo on it all (they asked me about this on the sprint chat site); 3) the battery drained pretty fast and the phone would get warm (my HTC never had these issues, though it seems to be common among s3 owners); 4) but all that being said, it's super fast (cf. to EVO) and I think I might enjoy the upgrade at this price.
Thanks for thinkin on it.Masterhanger

If I understand the issue, you got yourself a FreedomPop phone that you wish to activate with Sprint (NOT with FreedomPop)?
If so, I see two potential issues:
1. Your phone IMEI is with FreedomPop, and thus no longer recognized by Sprint. You'll have to ask Sprint to get your IMEI back, if possible.
2. You are using a FreedomPop ROM, and that ROM doesn't allow Sprint activation. Hopefully the actual phone is the same as the Sprint version and only the ROM is different. If you go to Settings and the model number is SPH-L710 then you are probably good. Try installing a Sprint stock ROM and then activate. I strongly recommend you backup your entire phone (including boot and efs) before you do that through, preferably through Odin - but be warned that you may hard brick your phone.
Works, but no sprint optimizer, profile update, or PRL
Hey Merudo,
I really appreciate the fix, thank you for that! However, as you can see in the title, there is no sprint optimizer, profile update or PRL update. That is really important stuff as the networks changes and upgrades all the time. Is there any way that file can be included too? Maybe I'm missing something, but the Tink fix said that there should be a sprint network update for the profile and PRL next to the CyanogenMod updates in About phone in the settings, but I never saw that when I put that on my phone. I have a Galaxy S3 phone I bought from freedomPop, but I absolutely hated the Samsung ROM so I wanted to flash CyanogenMod and now I'm having problems. I hope you have some ideas or can clear things up. Thanks again for the fix, and I saw your post on CyanogenMod site about this, that would be awesome if they did put this file into the ROM!

Hi ColdHot,
Sadly, profile/PRL update on custom ROM is a problem on all Sprint providers (Including Boost, Credo, FreedomPop, Ting, Virgin Mobile, and Sprint itself).
As far as I know, no custom ROM has built-in support for profile/PRL update for any of these providers.
I believe most people deal with the issue by switching back to a stock rom each time they wish to update profile or PRL. I personally switch back and forth between two full backups I make with Philz Touch Recovery.
Please do tell me if you ever find a better way!

OH MY GOODNESS THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN!!! I've seriously tried everything to get my 4G to work on my cyanogenmod infused freedompop (although its a sprint deivce) even by inputting my own apn's I found on the web. I was seriously even considering switching back to sprint just because 3g speeds just weren't cutting it. This finally did the trick. Thanks so much!
So ur fkashed to boostmobile with a freedom pop lte card in getting 4g lte? And boostmobile 3g and voice??

Wicked X on Freedompop
I was running Wicked Sensations when I switched to FP. Nothing but headaches all around. Couldn't place calls off wifi, no 4G, PRL or Profile updates. FP support was useless at trying to resolve.
I then switched to Wicked X and the phone is running smooth. Optimizer, 4G, PRL and Profile updates are all working fine. I'm getting better battery life than my wife's phone we just purchased from FP running their ROM. Seems to be a good ROM so far for FP service.
Thanks, Merudo.
For anyone wondering, I applied this on a 5.0 rom on my S3 and it seems to work great.

thanks for your information,
can you set the messaging (from freedompop) as defaulted dialer?
I tried the cynammod rom, when I used messaging app to dial the original dialer alway launched out, it is very annoying, so I have to flash back to freedompop rom.
has 5.0 the same problem? thanks!
New Fix Disclaimer
Hey Merudo,
I may get an S4 to use with FP and noticed your old fix had a disclaimer that it may not work on non-S3s. Could you clarify if the new fix has the same disclaimer? I see your comment in the .sh file says it handles universal lte builds but just want to make sure before purchasing otherwise I'll probably just go with an S3.
Not working... loosing my mind=(
I just moved and should be looking for work but, instead, I'm loosing my mind trying to make this work on my Sprint S4 running and, albeit, weekly build of CM12. For the love of god, has anybody figured anything out with that? It's really hard to network when I have no way of getting back to people. Not to mention how much I just spent on this phone.
Please help
I haven't been able to get any APN fix to work for freedompop on any Lollipop rom on my S4.
I get 3G without applying any fix, and either nothing happens, or I can't connect at all when using one of the 3 APN fixes I found.
Not sure why they don't work.
Can't seem to get data 3G/4G to work.
Can't seem to get data 3G/4G to work. When I disable wifi, I lose my Sprint(Freedompop) connection. I cant connect to the internet, etc.
I've tried these so far but nothing worked for me:
Universal_vmu_ApnFix-v.R2.zip
Freedompop APNs fix.zip
I love how fast this ROM is and want to make it my daily use phone.
Is there a specific process for getting it to work? Just want to make sure I'm not missing something.
Any advice/help is appreciated.
Freedompop (Sprint) SPH-L710 (Samsung Galaxy S3)
CM version 12-20150120-UNOFFICIAL-d2spr (lollipop 5.0.2 unofficial)
Baseband version: L710VPUDND8
EDIT: Is there a specific way to install to get it to work or? Or any other info I can provide that will help?
My current install went like this: wipe cache, wipe devik, factory reset, install CM12 ROM, install Freedompop APNs fix.zip, install gapps-1p-20141109-signed.zip, install Freedompop messaging, confirm registration, disable wifi, and no 3g/4g.
030415 Edit: My issue is resolved! I dialed *#*#4636#*#* and the TESTING screen came up immediately. Under "Set preferred network type:", I switched it to: LTE/GSM/CDMA auto (PRL) in the dropdown menu. I then turned off my WIFI, and LTE immediately showed up! I tested going to a webpage and it works!! I cannot thank you (shakim24 and XDA) enough!!! Turning the WIFI back on is a little tricky and requires some patience, but it will come back on. :good: :victory: :highfive:
Works for Nexus5 CM12 weekly
I am using multi rom with stock as the primary rom. I used that to update PRL and everything works as expected without any modifications. However, the CM12 data settings did not work without the FIX attached in this thread.
What ROM?

Can you tell me what ROM you used, because I have not been able to find one for my S3
Should I download the fix from the attachment or on the link?
They seem to be different.
UPD: one in attachment seem to be better (more settings in the apns-conf.xml)
I'm also attaching another version of this fix with even more APNs for Freedompop. It equals the setup that came with original FreedomPop ROM
i am having same issue and none of these PRL's work. Can you tell me which fix you used before modifying the settings in TESTING menu

You can only make/receive calls when Data is enabled? It doesnt work via wifi? While data is turned off, open the Freedompop Messaging app and see if indicates that you are registered. What happens specifically when you try to make a call? (what errors or messages do you get)

[Q] Can APN settings now be edited on Lollipop versions?

I purchased this phone on eBay for use on a non-Verizon network (Rogers). Unfortunately, it seems that since the 4.4.3 OTA, APN settings cannot be manually entered, and the network preference list does not work with my SIM card (says it's full with 0 items, exactly like this). I've done a lot of reading, and I've seen lots of people complaining about the same issue, but it seems no solution has been found. Yes, I've flashed custom ROMs like ViperOneM8. I even tried editing build.prop as shown in a very old post here but that also failed. I also even tried to open the SQLite database to edit it manually, but had no luck there either.
SO now I'm wondering if the new OTA has re-enabled this (I doubt it, but I want to ask before I re-sell the phone!).

OTA has landed for most carriers at this point. Edit: I'm an idiot. We're talking about Verizon.
Are you running a ROM based on the dev-base?

Hi @skittleys
I'm just as disappointed as you !
I've also tried everything, pretty much the same methods as you. I'm able to use HSPA+ on AT&T network (USA), just like before the f***** update to 4.4.4.
My problems are: no MMS, no group message, annyoing non verizon SIM icon.
For the rest everything perfect, what about you?

Yes.
I tried a CM11-based ROM, and it worked, presumably because CM bakes in a ton of APNs... unfortunately that ROM wouldn't recognize my SD card.
I'm debating flashing an L-based ROM, even though I'm worried about my work apps not working. However, I doubt the APN thing has been fixed...so...I feel stuck.
I really quite like this phone, but it's been such a hassle...
I have LolliGPE flashed on my M8, and it works fine - APN settings and everything. Of course S-Off (SunShine) is required, but it's required in order to get a ROM with APN settings.

Hi,
I'm at my wits end with a Verizon M8 I bought last week on Swappa and brought to Brazil expecting it to work with my carrier here (Claro). In 5 days I've gotten weird results:
First 2 days of voice but no data (with a '?' over a SIM card icon in the notification bar)
Then 1 day of voice and data signal icon flashing up/down arrows, but no actual data connection
Now 2 days of no voice and no data (with an 'X' over the SIM card icon and voice signal icon)
I've talked to VZW for 2 hours total. Their answer: the phone is unblocked.
I've been to Claro 5 times. Their answer:
There is also the possibility that all HTC One M8s are blocked by the Brazilian government communication agency (ANATEL) under some new absurd anti-piracy law, even though the One S, V, and X are approved. However, other M8 owners in Brasil claim they are able to use it here no problem, even on 4G. So I don't get what the problem with mine is.
Is there a custom ROM, Lollipop or otherwise, someone can confirm will let me at least try to configure the APN manually?

Further woes might even include the nv settings for the vzw phone not support the bands used by the carrier there.
you cannot edit them manually.. If your new carrier's APN doesn't show up in the list.. you are going to have one hell of a time making it work. Your best bet if possible is to downgrade the OS back to 4.4.2 and try that as you can edit the APNs on that OS.
OR flash CM or a rom that supports manual apn.

I got confirmation that the device is compatible with local carrier band frequency. I've chatted elsewhere with owners of VZW M8s who successfully got their devices to work on Brazilian carriers. (On 4.4.2 coincidentally)

I talked to an HTC rep today who simply advised I try a different chip. I also want to flash a rom with manual APN as you suggest. I can't easily find out which ROMs have that feature, though. So you say CM does, even the latest version of CM?

Yeah.. that's why i mentioned both CM and 4.4.2. Now I can't be certain, but I have heard that some roms like venom have expanded APN support as well. Best bet is to get that think s-off if you can and start doing some trial and error. The toughest part might be getting that thing s-off'd. Can't go any further until you got that.

I've got the phone bootloader unlocked/s-off already, so I'm ready to flash. I would just like some confirmations of roms that definitely keep the apn editing in. From the looks of it, e.g. here, CM12 does not have manual APN settings.
well i use this phone in india on a GSM network. .initially when i flashed the stock 5.0.1 FUU version mobile data wasnt working. .however i was able to add the apn maually for mobile data. .however your sim and network should get detected first as soon as you put the sim in

Edit: flashed ROM, booted fine. No mobile data for me. I briefly fiddled with different APN's but no dice. S-Pen seems to work fine. Also, even after seeing ROM to English upon setup, there are still remnants of the native language of the ROM that shows up. Nice work though. Looking forward to see where this goes.
I'll reflash when I have some more time.

I can't seem to get data working. Wifi range is terrible. I saw APN settings on first install but I fiddled with it once and it disappeared and even after reinstalling it's still gone. Weird. Pretty fast though!
Edit: Calling and texting works. It sent texts pretty slow.
It works you just gotta set up the network with the phone setting app I mentioned above

Maybe under ue control then then protocol then nas then network control then band selection???
I assume that's the place to enable all bands which I assume makes the rom available

ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh service mode 6984125.... Yeah, I'll keep on working on my port.
This menu? Not having to touch the iot hidden menu would be nice. It's based on the N9300 note 7 duos. Being based on a US CDMA rom would be ideal. Which I'm working on and another more experienced developer said he would throw it together too.

i think i found the way let me do some more fiddling and ill post here once i get it.
So. I do have LTE internet connected and the texting and internet is working great. I couldn't find an application drawer so I downloaded the google play store apk from XDA.
Downloaded change APN. Matched it exactly as it was on MOAR, and it worked. As soon as I make a phone call, I get the circle with a mark through it and it says the feature code you dialed is incorrect.
Getting somewhere I guess. Just need to figure out how to get calls working, then we'll have a fully functional Note 7 ROM!
In SIM card status, it says the Network is unknown, but shows the signal strength, the mobile network type is lte-service state is out of service but the mobile network state is connected.
Alright so i've hit a bit of a snag..
I had to purchase an APP to get to this work via the Phone info samsung application recommended earlier in the thread.
which is the IMEI backup when you open the menu on the left hand side or EFS backup/restore application/tool.
on a ROM where your data is working do a backup within the IMEI backup app we just installed (or other variations as long as it's an EFS backup/restore method) and make sure it's there where it says it went on your device, mine was in /sdcard/imeixxxxxxxx, and in the APP make sure it's there , tap it, and the restore button is there.
then flash the note 7 ROM from above. I had to find a playstore.apk for the playstore to work.
after that i redownloaded the app, restored my EFS backup and i was put onto verizon.
after that I used root browser and changed sales_code.dat file to SPR
then went into the phone info samsung, and went into service mode, ue settings, settings, protocol, nas, network control , and bands and made sure only 25,26,41 were on.
now texting etc work I have bars but the data is still not working. cant seem to find anyway to do a PRL update.
says in the thing that im on operator " roaming indicator off" so. that's where im at.

I downloaded Root Browser, went to system, csc and found the sales_code.dat, long pressed it and hit open with, then RB text editor. Changed to SPR, hit save at the top Right. Restarted the device. Came up, still had 4GLTE+ and I went and held down 1 for voicemail, it asked to save it as my number to call. I dialed my phone number, and it actually connected said I had no messages.
I made a phone call to a friend, who happened to answer and now I have LTE, Messages and CALL!
So far so good. Minus the having the Circle with a cross through it. Works though! Daily as of now. Report back if you figure out everything else.
Thanks for giving me hope, SO HAPPY!
EDIT: Now I cannot send text messages. OMG!

Messages will not send still, but if I send them and they say when mobile network is available they will, once I make a phone call, they SEND. It's really weird. LOL.
I cannot go into my APN settings any longer, they are grayed out.

If you add this to build.prop at the very very bottom, you can un-gray the APN settings out. Worked for me. Still having the text issue though.

G935U Firmware with bootloader update...any device should work now

935U FIRMWARE
Those of you on Sprint that have been locked into the Sprint only firmware now can go back to the beloved U firmware...or flash a carrier firmware of your choice. If you are still on b4, I would stay, but if not, now is the chance to install the U firmware.
Check your bootloader before installing, you may not be able to install carrier firmware afterwards.
I'll put the files in this Google Drive folder
1. Download Odin3_v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD.zip
2. Download SM-G935UB.zip (this is about 3 gigs)
3. Extract both zips
4. Open Odin
5. Place the files from SM-G935Ub9.zip into the correct BL, AP, CP, CSC blanks.
6. Put phone into download mode (power, home, volume down)
7. Connect phone to computer. Odin should now say phone is added. If not, install the Samsung phone drivers
8. Press START. This process will take about 10 minutes
9. Phone will reboot with new U firmware and Oreo installed.
AdHell AdBlocker
1. Download two apk files from this folder
2. You need a Samsung Key
Sign in here with your Samsung account.
Go here to view your keys or generate new ones.
Click on Generate License Key. (Left corner)
Go to Samsung SDK section.
Select Development license key
Give the key a name in Add a key alias
Press Generate license key
Copy the key. The key should start with KLM
I copied it into Google Keep 3. Install and Open the other apk that isn't adh3v3.1.1.236_79a11719.apk
4. Select an APK File
5. Go to the file name adh3v3.1.1.236_79a11719.apk
6. Click Common Edit
7. Change the package name to com.XXXXXXXX.XXXXXXXXX replace the Xs with random letter/numbers. remember the first set has 8 replacements and the second set has 9.
8. Press Save
10. Click Install
11. Give permissions if asked
12. Click Enable Admin inside Adhell
13. For the code, put in the KLM key you just created
14. Accept the Samsung terms
15. Adhell should be working
HotSpot
1. download the QuickShortcutMaker app from the playstore.
2. Search for lte
3. Expand com.test.LTEfunctionality
4. Click on the new com.test.LTEfunctionality
5. Press Try
6. Scroll to LTE APN Settings
7. Click APN2 LTE internet (may be different outside of sprint)
8. Scroll to APN Type
9. Add " ,dun " The line should show read < default,mms,dun >
10. Click 3 dots to save

Old Stuff
The "U" Firmware will work on any G930 Galaxy S7 (basically, USA variants) and is the Samsung Galaxy Touchwiz OS without carrier bloat. There is Samsung Bloat, but some can be uninstalled or disabled with a program like Package Disabler Pro or just disable it under application manager.
This should not trip Knox and will allow you to flash back to your original stock firmware. Warranty should not void, but I'm not responsible for bricked devices, exploding batteries, crying babies, Earth crushing meteors. If you have a question, best to ask it first!
There is an OTA to PG9 after you install this firmware. Feel free to upgrade after you flash this!
Installation:
1. Download
Updato Firmware Website or Sammobile Firmware Website or PL2 Firmware Google Drive (post 365 for MD5)
2. Extract files. May be best to download files over a wired connection!
3. Open ODIN and place the BL; AP; CP; CSC from the rar in the corresponding slots.
4. Place phone in download mode. Power + Vol Down + Home
5. Connect Phone to computer
6. Odin should recognize your phone. If not, you need to download and install the Samsung Driver Files
7. Press Start
8. It should flash the "U" Firmware.

Pit Mapping Error Fix
1. Download the Pit File Here
1a. You will have to down the Sprint PE1 firmware from Pit File Here or Pit File Here
The bootloader changed from v3 to v4 after the PGx update. If you are going to odin the latest firmware, you shouldn't have any issue. Going back to PGx to PCx/PEH will require this.
2. In Odin click the tab that says "Pit"
3. Odin will pull up a Warning dialogue. Click ok.
4. Click the long rectangular "Pit" button to select the pit file
5. Select the file that says "HEROQLTE_USA_SPR.pit" from the files you downloaded from my link.
6. With the pit file nw included, Add the AP, CP, and CSC files again and flash. (may need to reboot and go back into download mode)
7. Now odin the older 'U' firmware
____________________________________________
You cannot root this firmware with the Sprint model. Here are some apps that will give you some root/xposed features without them.
HotSpot
1. Download Shortcut Master Lite
2. Search for LTEfunctionality
3. Click on com.test.LTEfunctionality
4. Launch
5. Scroll down to LTE APN Setting
6. Add " ,dun " to APN2 LTE and EHRPD internet under APN type. That line should read default, mms, dun when you finish.
7. Native Hotspot should work. You may have to do this hack again if you update Profile.
Ad Blockers
None of these block ads on Youtube completely. Some will let you route through their servers to filter ads on Youtube via a VPN.
1. Adhell Uses Samsung Knox to block ads and trackers. Blocks most things on webpages and apps (no youtube), but saves a ton a battery since it doesn't require VPN. Also, it is FREE and well supported!
2. Disconnect Pro Similar to Adhell, but a paid app. Search the Galaxy App Store to buy it. Uses Samsung Knox too.
3. Ad Guard. Best I've used, but is a paid app for the good features.
4. AdClear. Some have had success with this, I've had mixed results.
5. BlockThis! Works well, but caused issues on some webpages.
Youtube Ads
This doesn't block ads, but it does silent and auto skip them. Cygery
Skip Tracks With Volume Keys
1. Frinky Music Controller Allows you to skip tracks with screen off.
2. Noyze Not sure if still being developed, but works. Let's you skip tracks by long pressing with screen off.
Voicemail Issue
I use Google Voice, so this worked for me. It is/was free to integrate your number with Google Voice...highly recommend if they still do it.
Install this apk for Sprint Visual Voicemail apk It will give you an error, but will take away the annoying voicemail notification. Then you can just hide the notification in the android settings and your problem will be solved. May work if you have regular voicemail, but probably not since it needs to write to system.
Doze Related
Remember to whitelist apps you want running in the background...like Pandora, Google Music, etc. I would leave them off at first and if it cuts off when the screen is off, you need to white list it.
For me, these both work best together and I saw a difference running both as opposed to either solely.
1. ForceDoze puts your phone into doze mode without the motion detectors and 30 minute wait. Great app! Does require you to install adb (adb installer) since you have to run a command to get it to run properly. Check Disable motion sensing and turn off while charging
2. Greenify The auto hibernation works great if we had root, but we don't. It works, but can be extremely annoying at times and can drain battery because it may continuously try to force stop/close an app you greenify. Plus, it will take a few seconds to re-unlock your phone immediately after you turn off the screen. However, I use it with force doze for the aggressive doze. I saw a difference in battery life by using them both.
Other Tips
Besides the obvious of gmail/facebook/whatspp/twitter/snapchat syncing
1. Turn off wi-fi scanning
2. Back up my data for Samsung and Google under back up and reset
3. Turn off some features under advanced features in settings...for example, palm swipe to capture if you never use it
4. Location History under Location
5. Change locating method...I leave mine on GPS, wi-fi, mobile, but some people want more battery life and turn it off.
6. Turn on developer options and change animations to 0.5
7. Turn off Always on Display under settings > display. I like it, so I leave it on...but takes about 2% an hour
Old stuff
Has anyone tried the 930U firmware for our Sprint phones (930P)? They seem to have success with it (935U) over at the Sprint S7 Edge forums.
On the Edge forums, they said you can root, but it messes with LTE/call abilities. However, it removes all Sprint bloatware and apparently allows for hotspot tethering.
According to the Edge forums, it is the universal firmware, so it should work on any qualcomm chipset phone. The firmware is for the Galaxy S7 Special Edition ( Link to Sprint site about it )
Anyway, here is the thread on the AT&T forum about it if you are interested. Didn't see a thread or info about here, so I was just wondering.

Second Post for random questions/answers:
1. Is it multi-csc? Yes, it should support any US carrier if your phone is carrier unlocked
2. Wifi Calling/VoLTE supported? Wifi Calling=yes; VoLTE=not sure, sprint doesn't support it.
3. Are XXX bands used with my carrier unlocked? All bands with major US carriers appear to be working. You can follow this guide for unlocking additional LTE bands to confirm or unlock more international bands. Change the dial code for the USB settings to ##3424#
It's all good
I can also confirm this is multi-csc. I just loaded it to my Sprint S7 Edge (SM-G935P) and everything is just like it was before (except for new firmware version!). Just use the HOME_CSC file when you flash in Odin and everything will be fine. I always wondered why Samsung released carrier versions of "Unlocked" firmware. Unlocked is unlocked. It's not carrier specific. I never had the nerve to try flashing any of the other carrier versions of the "U" firmware, until now. It's all good. Also, security patch level is October 1, 2018. And hotspot/Shortcut Master APN editing still works as before.
This should really be a boon to all the people with Sprint phone models stuck on higher bootloader versions of carrier firmware. Now you can finally get some unlocked goodness!
Enjoy!

Are you on Sprint? Wifi Calling works with Sprint, but since Sprint doesn't have VoLTE, I can't test that. Yeah, I switched from Shortcut Master Lite to Quick Shortcut Maker because the former was removed from the play store.
Thanks for confirming!

Yes I'm on Sprint. I didn't know they had removed Shortcut Master (Lite) from the Play Store. I've just had it forever. I'd seen others mention using Quick Shortcut Maker as well. I might give it a try just for kicks. It obviously works similarly to Shortcut Master.
Cheers.
Been waiting on this a while, thanks OP for posting and hosting on GDrive!!
FYI - I wasn't sure the difference between the CSC and Home_CSC so I looked it up:

let's say you wanna update your phone without wiping the data u have on it. you use the home csc. If u have custom recovery and custom rom and you wanna go back to stock firmware you flash the csc file.

I used CSC for a full wipe and the flash worked with no problems. Doing the google auto-restore so it will be downloading apps for a while but everything is looking good so far. LTE data on Sprint & SMS messaging both working as expected right out of the gate.

I tried, but could not get it to work. None of the test voicemails I left ever showed up in the app. I tried restarting my phone but still nothing. I've tried to get it to work before and have never been successful. It's just as well anyway. Why in the world does a voicemail app need access to my location???!!! I hate apps that ask for broad, unnecessary permissions. That's why I don't run the Sprint firmware on my phone. What a horrible bloated mess it is. I don't see how people put up with all that crap on their phones. So many useless background processes running for all the bloatware that you can't uninstall. No thanks.
Thanks to Package Disabler Pro, I have a grand total of 11 processes running at any given time on my phone. And it runs fast and smooth, like it's supposed to. No lag, no stuttering ever. It really is a crime what carriers (and even Samsung) do with loading all their crapware on their phones.
Just curious, are you able to use this app on your phone with the U firmware? Did you have to jump through any hoops to make it work?

I use google voice and forward to it for voicemail. Yeah, I just did a little research and apparently unlocked editions (Sprint calls them Special Editions) of the S7 and S8 have to use the old fashion voicemail because the system is only provision to work with the S9. Simple fix by Sprint, but then again..... I read a small lead about a tech who could reset something in the system to change it from the current system back to the old 9016 method. I'll check more into it. Sorry about it not working.

Works great
Thanks very much for this. I loaded the this firmware on my SM-G935P and it works great with no problems at all. I put an activated AT&T sim card and an activated Tracfone sim card in my G935P with this firmware. Both were automatically configured with the correct bands when the phone booted up and everything I have checked seems to work perfectly and very fast with very little bloatware. Thanks again

Yes, this will work if you are above b4. If you are on b4, I would stay, but this will get you out of the Sprint screw job on that.
RCS features not working on U firmware?
Flashed U firmware just today and i was wondering if anyone else was able to get the RCS features to work? When i was previously on sprint firmware it was working just fine but now i see no option for the chat messages setting in the messages app. Everything else seems to be working though. Data and wifi calling. No bloatware!
