Dear all
After using the S7 Edge for several weeks from the transfer of my OnePlus 2. I noticed that we can't directly bypass our lockscreen without having the screen to first be lit up, which is an extra step unlocking the device. Phones like the OnePlus 2 unlocks immediately once a fingerprint is detected.
Could this function possibly be ventured or is there already some sort of modules out there that performs the same task?
Thanks!
Cheers and regards,
Nick

From "screen off" screen, press and hold Home button. Assuming you use finger to unlock your phone. And phone unlocks.
Sent from my SM-G935F using Tapatalk
Legit takes less than 2 seconds too unlock when simply clicking and holding the button
If you click and hold, you end up at the home screen. You can also click, then let the button up while keeping your finger on the sensor. The phone will unlock and remain on the previous screen instead of always going to the home screen.
True, but you still see the "stupid" s7 lockscreen...

There is a way of doing this, but it's a side effect of a bug in an Xposed module. Install Fingerprint Enabler 1.0.3 and enable it in Xposed installer. You can then unlock the phone without pressing the home button. The downside is that this happens because the fingerprint service is always running, waiting for a fingerprint to read. This means the phone never goes into deep sleep, even with the screen off so it's not worth the downside for me. Also, when using the phone, you will get a vibration when you accidentally touch the reader with a finger that has not been set up.
Where did you people come with the idea that you have to keep pressing the button? Ever since I got the phone back on apc8, I always opened the phone by pressing the home button once, and still keep my finger on the button so the fingerprint gets registered, I never had to keep holding it pressed.

It did exactly as I explained on 1.0.3 on Superman 1.9. The battery drawback didn't make it an option anyway.

Hi All,
I was hoping you guy might be able to help me out.
The LG G3 is awesome, i love being able to turn the screen on and off without using any buttons.
One bit that i think could use some work is that currently, when the screen is on, you can tap the notification bar twice to turn the screen off, however, i find that this doesnt work so well all the time.
I have Nova launcher and i wanted to link a two finger swipe gesture with an app to turn the screen off however...
All the apps on the store only seem to offer you the option to turn the screen off and lock the phone immediately at the same time. Does anyone know of an app that will let me turn the screen off, but NOT lock the phone immediately, and just leave the lock settings to the system defaults.
It seems pretty straight forward but i've tried about 30 apps on the store and all of them only screen off and lock, none allow you to do it without locking the phone immediately.
Any help would be really appreciated!

Any other ideas?

You could try an app like Button Savior. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.smart.swkey.nonroot
It has the option to swipe from the side to bring up the buttons, and from what I understand, the power button on it is exactly the same action as pressing the power button on your phone. You could tweak it to try and get it to the solution you want, but I think at least the button should be what you are looking for.

My phone seems to do the same action either way. I think I know what you are talking about. It seems that on previous roms, the screen could go dark, but if I woke the phone back up it wasn't actually locked. What about this app? It seems to distinguish between the two.

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion... The problem with that app is that the phone won't lock until I go back in and disable it... I want the phone to use the same system timeout so if I do leave my phone lying around it will lock after 3 or 5 minutes on its own.

Take this.
Note: Needs Root
Not sure it it covers your needs, but I'm using SkipLock combined with Gravity Screen
SkipLock let's you bypass the lockscreen (and pincode) when your phone is connected to either a trusted WIFI network or a trusted BT-device (carkit!).
As soon as you get home you'll turn on your screen and you the lockscreen as usual, but from that point on it's lockscreen free until it disconnects with your wifi network.
So when you turn off the screen the screen goes black, but as soon as you turn it on again you'll see either the homescreen or your last opened app.
It works really GREAT!
Gravity screen is not needed but makes it even easier. It automatically turns your screen on when you pick up the phone, and turns it off when you place it down (configurable). It also features Pocket Mode so it will turn the screen off when you put it in your pocket and on again when you take it out. Worst part was getting used to NOT press the power-button anymore

Hi, Thanks for the suggestion - i just tried the app and it has a non-root version, but that just basically turns the screen black, leaves the notification bar and navi buttons and doesnt actuall replicate pressing the power button.
I cant root my phone either as i need to use banking apps and these dont work with root.
Any other ideas?

Skiplock doesn't use up any battery. Gravity MIGHT, but there are options to choose that use up more or less battery.
Don't know about needing root though...

Tried it, also did a factory reset and you still have to wake the device and have your finger scanned. When I first got the phone and set it up, I was able to unlock the device just by soft touching the home button, but after the update that t-mobile pushed, I'd have to wake the device then have my finger scanned. If anyone can confirm that you can unlock the device just by soft touching the home button, before you took the update that would be appreciated.

Yes, I am 100% sure that a soft touch on the home button would wake and unlock the device. I set my finger print at first start and I was playing with the scanner for a good 30 minutes. A soft touch would unlock the device without waking it, but after taking the update I would have to wake the device to unlock it. Maybe the update changed it?

Yes, i have done it with the feature turnd on also and tried with power button and gestures but still have the problem. Do you have any apps that might have triggered this behaviour. It's almost always a dogy app triggering it. Just a thought.

No, nothing that can be related to the camera. I dont have a lot of apps installed on my phone so it can't be that. It's indeed a very strange behaviour.
I have a similar problem. When I unlock the phone sometimes the camera will open. Sometimes dialer , messages, gallery, browser all kind of apps will open by it self. Normally happens with the finger print security turned on. Will try using notmal lock screen to see if it still happens
Just checking. You know if you swipe upd into the middle from the right bottom corner from the lock screen. It automatically unlocks to camera.
Does it happen when you swipe horizontally?
I know it asks for pin/pattern in certain instances like after reboot, when changing users, and after an extended period of time (like 48hrs), but I'm getting the pin screen like 75% of the time. Been like this since I got it. I've re-scanned my fingerprints.
Is the fingerprint scanner relegated to a novelty feature if it's almost always asking for your pin/pattern?
Anyone else getting it to this extent?

I get it sometimes but it's because I have tasker lock my screen when I unplug it from my car. Because it was locked by the "administrator" it requires a pin in addition to my fingerprint.

So having "power button instantly locks" under security/screen lock/settings counts as locked by administrator I assume?

It could be a haywire app. Power button instantly locks is not the reason, because mine is enabled.
I have had this happen to me a few times though... nowhere near 75%, but maybe 1 or 2 times a day with no explicable reason.
I've only used the phone for a day now, but I haven't had it ask for any additional unlock other than the print so far(besides the software update reboot). I'll update once I've used it for a bit longer.
Apparently it was 'power button instantly locks' because I've had no probs since I unchecked it. Just don't remember having that issue on other phones. It locks when you press the power button anyway so don't get the point of that feature.

It must be a system bug then, and I suggest you report it from your phone using the feedback/bug report function. I have "power button locks immediately" enabled and like I said, 99% of the time it works fine and unlocks with fingerprint. So it must just be a software bug.
My wife just got her S8+, and we were trying to get the fingerprint sensor too unlock to the home screen the way her pixel would. The way it works now, she has to awkwardly reach for the sensor, then swipe up to unlock the device. Any suggestions, or are we out of luck unless Samsung devices to make this a feature in an update?
Did you enable 'Fingerprint unlock' in the settings? I'm able to unlock my S8+ while the screen is off just by putting my finger over the scanner without swiping anything.
I'm not sure of this caused it, but we ran a system update and it started working as expected. Again it may be a coincidence, but it started working right after the update. Mods can delete this thread of they want, it's not a relevant question since it seems to have been a bug.

How is the fingerprint unlock supposed to work? On my Nexus 6P, with the screen off, you just put your finger over the sensor and the phone turned on, unlocked. But it seems the S8 requires you to push the power button, then use the fingerprint scanner. Is that correct? Is there a way to have the fingerprint sensor turn on the screen?
(Yes, I do have "fingerprint unlock" turned on in settings.)

I don't have to push my power button to get it to unlock. I just place my finger over the sensor with the screen off and it works instantly and doesn't show the lock screen.
Don't delete it, I almost gave up on this option, reading this made me try again and it's much improved, thanks!
Interesting. I'm not sure what I'm missing, but I can't get mine to do that.
Edit: I may have bigger problems. I can't actually get the phone to lock. I have smart lock turned off and only pattern selected for screen unlock type, but I can just swipe on the lock screen and go to the home screen, without entering the pattern. I assume these two issues are related.
Further edit: OK, the second issue was because of the "secured lock time" setting. So, unrelated.

Well, I got it to work. It actually was the "secured lock time" setting. Basically, if the phone isn't actually locked (because the time in that setting hasn't passed), even though the screen is off, the fingerprint sensor won't wake it. But if more than the set time has elapsed, it does.
Not the best design, but that explains it. My advice: set the secured lock time to zero ("instantly with the power key or when the screen times out").

For some reason, it's set up to use biometrics only if the screen is locked, not just off.

You can simply put your finger on the sensor and it will unlock right to the home screen.
You need to habe the finger print unlock turb on.
This has to be my favorite feature on this phone, beside using it to pull the notification bar down
