HTC One A9 Sprint hard-brick, Need Internal Memory Dump - HTC One A9

Hi, guys.
I have HTC One A9 Sprint hard-bricked as "Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008" black screen and not visible in adb/fastboot
fastboot getvar all (before it bricked)

At first I had new phone with Spint-locked sim.
I unlocked bootloader (via htcdev.com), installed twrp and supersu and unlocked sim using this manual.
Then I decided to updare firmware, returned stock recovery
adb reboot-bootloader
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot reboot-bootloader
fastboot oem rebootRUU
fastboot flash zip firmware.zip
where firmware.zip I made by decrypting RUU firmware and manually zipping it (it was a mistake!)

Now phone has black screen and never turns on.
In QPST
Is there any chance of recovery or phone is comletely dead?

I believe it is possible. I've been working on a method to unbrick our devices, using the Qualcomm diagnostic interface. Someone over at the oneplus forums has managed to do it with their devices. I haven't completed the method yet. Also, I don't have a bricked A9 to test on, since I won't intentionally brick mine. Do you have a copy of the partition table layout for your A9?

but as I understand the output of brick-making command, gpt_main_32g.img was flashed while other partitions were not. So I'm not sure about correctness of it.
I put link to all mentioned files in PM.
As I understand unbricking for htc a9 much harder than oneplus, because original firmware does not include files needed for low-level flashing like various *8952*.mbn and *.xml and same files from other phones, even if you find them, could be useless because phone can accept only signed by HTC files (I'm not sure though).
Nevertheless I am ready to help testing your method.

I need internal memory dump of HTC One A9 Sprint (modelid: 2PQ930000 cidnum: SPCS_001 mainver: >=1.57.651.1)
need first 1167 MB (2392030 blocks) to include boot and recovery partitions. + 100 MB for insurance (1267 MB totally).
Trying to boot from an external SD card.
Thanx to CSnowRules who gave me dump of his HTC One A9 ATT.
With his dump I was able to change 9008 state (pure PBL) to 900E (probably one of SBL's on Ext SD).

If all you need now is a system image to flash....I already posted that, firmware, boot and recovery on the RUU Collection area. I'm curious....as I have not completely bricked my A9....if your phone is blacked out and wont turn on, how exactly would you be able to boot it from your SD? Was it also not registering via USB under fastboot after your attempt?

Phone is not visible via fastboot / adb, so I can not flash any RUU image or standalone partition image. Most probably that partition table in internal memory is broken, and phone stuck in PBL mode (Primary BootLoader, memory partition with bootable code inside of msm chip), which is visible through usb as "qualcomm 9008 com port".
I have information about other qaulcomm based phones in similar condition were revived with bootable sd card. The idea is that when emmc memory is not accessible or not bootable, msm chip trying to use sd card as internal memory, so i can boot into adb mode and get access to emmc as external memory.
I am not sure if it would work with htc a9, but I already tried internal memory image of HTC One A9 ATT and it changed state to 900E and programm emmcdl.exe recognized it as SBL(Secondary BootLoader) mode, which means that booting from sd card is happening, but stopping on some step probably because of wrong signature (HTC One A9 ATT GSM vs HTC One A9 Sprint CDMA).

I see, I see......interesting! Well, hopefully you can pull it off. Let me know if you need an Internal Memory Dump still and I'll send you one. Thanks for the insight on that issue in case i ever have the same someday. ^_^

Unfortunately this files are not what I am looking for. I need image of a whole internal disk (first 1300MB, system.img and userdata could be excluded) I would be grateful if you make it. Here is the instruction:
0. Your phone has to be rooted and S-OFF (may be), USB debugging ON. On your computer has to be installed HTC drivers and ADB.
1. Insert SD card with at least 1400MB free to phone.
2. Connect phone to computer.
3. run this commands in windows cmd.exe:
Code:
adb shell
su /*accept request of gettint root on your phone.*/
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/sdcard/dump.img bs=512 count=2596830
4. after command complete take file dump.img from sd card and archive it.

I hope you get well

Thanks man, I am well enough at least...problem here...im somewhere in the middle with my own exp and knowledge on doing things here and one place i still lack sorely is with ADB. i know fastboot and many other like command tools like the back of my hand....adb however always seemed to not quite work ever for my needs so gave up on it once i found better ways to get what i needed. That being said, i can never get most of the adb commands to work EVER. So entering the commands i know already that you also posted still wont fly as the errors i keeps getting block any further attempts. Perhaps you can assist....so Ive tried running adb in terminal when phone is booted to no avail. Never seems to find adb like its missing from some directory or install location from the error i sometimes receive and as far as i know there isn't some adb app specifically to install so im stumped on that. Only place i can seem to ever get adb to do more than say error not found or something is when booted into recovery.....usb debugging is on etc, I open cmd prompt whereever my adb/fastboot stuff is located like platform tools on my desktop, then adb devices i input which always shows my phone and stating in recovery. Ive read if you have problems mounting system to type in adb remount before starting shell and then i type in adb shell and i get this:
C:\Users\brigh\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\platform-tools>adb remount
remount succeeded
C:\Users\brigh\AppData\Local\Android\sdk\platform-tools>adb shell
~ # su
/sbin/sh: su: not found
~ # adb remount
/sbin/sh: adb: not found
~ #
So i dont know what the gobbledegook that is displayed after starting shell is about.....long ago i remember it would just be the hashtag right? well type in su then says its not found...and cant remount....STILL somehow i just typed in the command to get the dump img and seems to have worked although im dubious of its efficacy So let me know either way. Sorry for the long wait...really.

[FASTBOOT]JSS15J restore .imgs (PRE-ROOTED)

USE GOOGLE's FACTORY IMAGE IF YOU WANT FULL STOCK (NO ROOT)
https://developers.google.com/android/nexus/images#razorjss15j
Well, after my stock/insecure kernel thread and posting the partition log, plenty of people have asked me for certain parts that would help the device restore....so here they are. And I hope this post complies with the warning at the top of this forum :#
These are from my device, a mostly stock JSS15J build. Only root is there.
Anyway, to restore with these .IMGS in fastboot
User phuduong reported these working to me.
FASTBOOT MUST BE SET-UP AND YOU MUST HAVE SOME UNDERSTANDING OF IT. I CANNOT REALLY OFFER SUPPORT AS I AM JUST A NEW AS YOU IN "DEV" TERMS.
1.) Download them and unzip them somewhere where you know their location
2.) Open CMD prompt/Terminal and move location with "cd /directory/directory/directory/JSS15J builds" CD means move through the file hierarchy where you want. Or drag and drop the file itself into CMD prompt/Terminal and it will usually direct to it. That was obviously only an example as mine is "cd ~/home/nburnes/Downloads/JSS15J-fastboot-images"
2.5) YOU MUST FLASH ALL FILES - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=44021630&postcount=4
3.)
Code:
fastboot erase boot
fastboot erase cache
fastboot erase recovery
fastboot erase system
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot -w
fastboot reboot-bootloader
4.) In bootloader VOL up or VOL down until you hit Recovery Mode, select with Power Button
5.) Recovery will show you an Android with a red triangle, press POWER and VOL UP at the same time once.
6.) Scroll down and select Wipe data/Factory reset then reboot system now after it is finished
7.) Hopefully you should see your screen turn on and the glowing Nexus logo, first boot will take a little while and eventually you will be at the Welcome screen.
OPTIONAL UNROOT
8.) Open SuperSU and go to Settings tab. Select "Full Unroot." Reboot.
Here is the partition log from
adb shell
$ su
# cat /cache/recovery/last_log

This is how i managed to have a working tablet again
1. FORMAT DATA in TWRP - after doing this your internal storage should be back and not show 0MB
2. reboot to the bootloader
4. Once downloaded move that system.img file to your adb directory
5. With you nexus 7 in the bootloader, adb open, and file downloaded copy and paste this command into adb terminal
fastboot flash system system.img
6. Now you have an OS but it still would loop and wouldnt start
7. Boot into recovery and Format Data again, because for me 0MB interal storage was back again
8. Then Factory Reset
FINALLY YOUR DEVICE SHOULD BE BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL STATE!!!!!

Try booting back into recovery and formatting data again.
All working!!!
HAD to install all three files.
Wish I knew what I can do to get root without system going into 0 mg and wiping system. H'm?
can you please host these somewhere else? firefox will not download from that site for me.

Uploading to Dropbox as well now.
how long will the tablet boot after doing this? seems to be taking forever on the nexus boot logo.
Can anyone else who followed this method verify if the Dropbox app is working for them? I keep getting the "Storage full or unavailable" error whenever I try to download something from dropbox (which I'm guessing is caused by messed up permissions.)
Thanks.

Thank you! I wasn't paying attention and wiped /system (with the other partitions) when I couldn't get past the boot screen after unlocking/flashing TWRP. Flashed your system.img and like you said, already rooted \o/. Score,

If you still haven't gotten it to boot, reboot to bootloader, select recovery, at android with red triangle press Power and VOL UP at the same time once. Select wipe data/factory reset then reboot system now afterwards.
And Dropbox keeps erroring (4xx) whenever it gets fully uploaded, so idk mate

Is the dropbox app working for you? ie. can you download files from the cloud to your tablet?
I'm getting all sorts of errors from apps that interact one way or another with the file system. Dropbox can't download, quickpic can't generate a database etc. etc.

Nope. Must be an issue with the app and 4.3
Edit: Redownloaded and it worked just fine.

I don't think it's a small bug. Almost every app that interacts with the file system is acting funny. Dropbox, quickpic, titanium etc etc. (The fix for titanium is known)
Also, at this point I don't know if the problem is with just those of us who followed this procedure or the device as a whole. I have 4.3 on my Nexus 4 and it doesn't have this problem.

I do not know mate. Make a thread in Nexus 7 application forum asking others as this really isn't the place, not to sound rude.
Did you post the dropbox link? TWRP screwed up my data partition.. did the same thing on my SGS4. Need the stock recovery. Thank you so much for this.

Mate, I have verified that unrooted devices do not have this problem. So the problem is either with the rooting procedure or your system image. Now I do appreciate the help you're providing people and I'm not trying to cause trouble here, just trying to figure out what's wrong with our devices.

I do believe it is Dropbox or your device. I just tried multiple file sharing apps and they worked fine, including Box and Google Drive and they all pulled to /sdcard/Downloads just fine.
I actually even just retested Dropbox > clicked on a file > Export > picked Downloads and it downloaded just fine
I am sorry, I don't know whats up with the issue you're having

What about google drive? Or perhaps just the recovery? Mega has actually frozen on me twice now. The first time it was adorable and froze at 51%. It also creeps me out that it downloads to cache or something. Like a little phantom download. Yikes. I think its stalling out again.

OP updated with Google Drive upload

[Completed] Nexus forensic recovery of fixed sdcard?

I find if I post in a specific device forum... depending on how popular the device is you get various answers back. I guess android partitions in all sorts of ways... so from that POV I'd be better off on the Cyanogenmod forum... assuming that mostly has the same partition setup between phones? But maybe it varies by each release. I'm on 4.4.4 here.
There's another thread with similar interest but a different phone... maybe it's better to have everyone on that thread instead.
So far I'm using this guide:
http://www.df.lth.se/~jokke/androidfilerecovery/
Which references adb shell su -c "cat /dev/block/mmcblk0" | pv > mmcblk0.raw but running this from recovery (TWRP) results in a zero file. Running it from the system booted ends up with a ~16gb partition table that makes no sense to testdisk. Should I search for info on what the partition structure should be?
What should I be searching for for more info? Is a thread from July too old to bump:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1503595&page=7
Should I be approaching it from a linux point of view, plugging the phone in a dd if= / of= as if it's a USB drive?
TWRP has the option to mount... but on that page there is no button to click to actually mount the partitions. Maybe I should search for help with TWRP recovery. Not sure where to start.
The linux dd command doesn't seem to be possible anymore as the phone doesn't seem to mount as a drive anymore - it isn't listed by sudo fdisk -l
Keywords for searching seem to be mmcblk0, maybe EFI GPT, testdisk? The guide is quite old... should I even be using testdisk these days? build is CM11, maguro 4.4.4 KTU84Q, 3rd aug 2014, kernel 3.0.101

Hi,
I see you have already posted in the thread you mentioned and to answer your question it isn't to old to bump, but probably not the best place to ask as it is for a Samsung
I get what you are saying that you may not get the right person to answer your question but being it is a nexus device you will find very smart and helpful people in those forums so I would ask in the device specific q&a
That being said above you allude to maguro which is the galaxy nexus but in the other thread it sounds like you have a nexus 4, just not sure what phone you have.
But if you want to ask in a general forum with a fair amount of people willing and able to help I would suggest asking here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/help
Best of luck!
Thanks.
My mistake, I have a Maguro not Nexus4.
Maybe maguro has the same partition structure across roms so I will try there in the first instance

Moto G Black Screen but still working [Solved]

I hope someone can figure this out
I have a Moto G (1st Gen) with CM 12.1. The phone was working well till I plugged an USB-OTG, after that the phone rebooted and now I only see a black screen.
The weird thing is that I can still "use it", if I long press the power button I get the "power menu" options. I also can reboot to recovery and access TWRP without problems, I even can call to my number and the phone rings....
So this is what I tried so far:
- Reboot to recovery and clear cache
- Tried the repair option in TWRP
- Restored an old backup I made from the same ROM with TWRP, restoring just System and Boot
Thanks

With TWRP, it would be:
Wipe -> Advanced Wipe -> Data
or
Wipe -> Format Data

What's your SD card size? Is it exFAT?
Also could you provide the logs? (Incase you don't know how to get them: https://rootzwiki.com/topic/24120-how-to-get-a-log-from-twrp/)

I am convinced that you did not flash the image from this thread.
This gives it away:
Code:
Starting TWRP 3.1.1-0-50730033-dirty on Wed Jan 14 20:14:48 1970
It should say Starting TWRP 3.3.1-0
Please flash it fastboot and try again.

I don't have a dual sim but according to another user in this thread with a Z5P Dual it does work but it cannot access the micro sd card. I'll try to publish a fix for that soon.
New Release 2019-12-26
- Applied DTS patch by kv123 for dual sim SD card fix.
- Update device configs for satsuki.
@aman34th @yeshuabainz Please try this build and confirm is microsd card is now working on dual sim devices.

Need help flashing this recovery.
Hi,
I need help to installing this TWRP.
My phone is Z5P E6853. I just followed this guide and unlocked my phone. I'm not sure why I had to downgrade my android version for that, but I'm confident that bootloader in unlocked. I did it twice (just to make sure) and second time it showed me an error claiming that operation failed because it was already unlocked.
I guess I should mention that I flashed a recovery only once and it was quite long ago, so I found this guide for installing TWRP on this site. None of the commands gave me any errors. However when I flash recovery it does it really fast.
After flashing recovery image I rebooted the phone and tried booting in to recovery by holding volume down + power button and
Code:
sudo adb reboot recovery
command. In both cases result was the same. Phone booted strait to OS and not to recovery.
So, does anyone can tell what I did wrong?

Can you try fastboot boot recovery.img? without sudo.
See if it actually boots into the recovery.

I tried that before. I can't use fastboot without root on my laptop while adb works fine. I'll try to look into that.
[Few minutes later]
I added a rule to /etc/udev/rules.d/11-android.rules and now fastboot works without root. Flashing new recovery takes 1.2 seconds, but result is still the same.

I have no clue, this might be a long-shot but is there any other laptop that you can try?
Or perhaps is your phone's volume down button broken? Best way to test this would be to see if you can flash the old twrp recovery (3.1.1 for Z5 Premium somewhere in xda)
I managed to flash and load to this recovery. When I followed first guide "tottaly unlock Xperia Z5 6653 and premium E6853 Flash and Bypass FRP" I downgraded Android to 5.1 (as per guide) and it seems that this version of TWRP is not compatible with that old android version and that's the reason why it failed to flash or at least load after flashing. After upgrading to android 6.1 everything worked as it should.
Hello. I found twrp 3.0.0 in another thread. But when i flash it i get bootloop. TWRP Vanishes when i flash the rom again... like i couldn't manage to make it work... Is it the same with this one? Am i doing something wrong? I have a z5 premium my old device...
TIA.
