Pulling my hair out. What phablet to pick? - Huawei MediaPad X2

Hey all, I'm torn between a Huawei Mediapad X2 or a Huawei Mediapad M2 (or m2 lite?)
I'm looking to upgrade from a Samsung Galaxy S2.
I'm more inclinded to the X2 or wait for X3, just because of the pixel count 323ppi compared to the 283ppi on the M2.
Been reading on here that people upgraded from the X2 to the M2 because of the speakers?
Does the x2 have 6.0 android now?
I really like the idea of a phablet. What would you choose. I like to watch YouTube and Twitch. But also like to take decent pictures. Any ideas? Also like big screen phones.
Thank you guys

I have the X2 but the China version GEM 703L this have Android 6.0 B211
The 702L have 6.0 Beta and 701 stuck on 5.0
I love the X2 703L,you can delete all China Apps,Unlock the Bootloader install Twrp and root
But this have not LTE Band 20 for Europe,I do not need it
Batterylife is very Good.
I think 7 inches is still good, everything is larger than 7 no longer duty.
My second Device is 6 inches (Mate 8 L29),which is also very good, but the price is just higher

If custom ROM's are important then get the X2. If features are important get the M2 7.0. Honestly I was thinking of selling my X2 and getting an M2 7.0 as it has a snapdragon processor so CM13 is possible. It also has a fingerprint scanner but the battery is only 4360mah compared to 5000mah on the X2. The M2 7.0 only has one speaker, not two. When I really thought about it I decided to keep my X2 and wait for the next big Phablet.

Ah I thought it was going to be like the M2 8.0 with the two speakers! Oh well, think ill go for the M2 7.0, as it has the same features as the X2 but only down size is the battery and not 6.0 android?
Just a real shame that they didn't carry over the two speakers

I know, when the M2 7.0 was announced instead of the X3 I was interested until I saw that it didn't have the stereo speakers and the battery was smaller and I was like ok i guess I'm keeping my X2. It's basically an X2 with a fingerprint scanner.

Finally decided and went for the X2 703L.
When I thought about it, m2 was nice but its almost exactly the same as the X2. So saved myself around £50 going for the X2.

Pretty simple, if you ask me.
If you don't care about 4G connectivity in the U.S. or Europe, to for the X2.
I wouldn't even bother with an M-series.
The coms spectrum is the only thing keeping me from buying and X2... so I'd be very interested to hear your opinions and which carrier you use. I have yet to find a single carrier who's spectrum (frequencies/bands) match that of the X2... NOR have I found a reasonable solution (antenna mod/etc.).

Just to update you all, my X2 703L arrived today. On EE network in the UK i get 3g so far, haven't been out and a bout to see if 4g is available.
As 703L it didn't come installed with google play, the guy before me tried to install google play on and failed. I uninstalled google play services and google play then used HiApp to install google play. All works fine now, really good upgrade from my old Samsung S2.

Is it any good

I am thinking to buy a new large-screened android device.
Basically minimum 6 inch.
I was thinking of buying a Mediapad x2, looks like a good price-quality tradeoff.
But then today google dropped the price of the Nexus 6 by 300USD. It costs pretty much the same as a Mediapad x2.
So now I am not sure anymore.
I know that the Nexus 6 is a good device, but is the Mediapad x2 actually good? Would you recommend it to other people? The extra size is a non issue, if anything it's a plus.
There is only a few reviews of the mediapad x2, and none on the blog juggernauts (Engadget, theverge, etc...)
So, happy with your x2? Would you stick with it? Or would you trade it for a "flagship device" from a major brand.
For the price, i thought it was a pretty good android device. I 1st bought the X1 at a low price to try it out. The size was good for a 7in device, but the X1 performance was a bit of a let down. When i saw X2 specs, it seemed like a dream fit for me as i wanted a big screen phone with decent performance. I got what i wanted

I have a Nexus 6 and a Mediapad X2. Both are great devices but the Mediapad X2 is better for me. The screen is larger, brighter and the battery lasts WAY longer on the X2. The Nexus 6 has LTE, is faster and has stereo speakers. It really depends on how big of a screen you want. The battery life in the X2 lasts 2-3 times longer and makes me not want to use my Nexus 6 anymore.
Thx for the answers so far. This doesn't make the choice easier
When you say your X2 doesn't have LTE, is that because of your provider? Because from what I can tell, the X2 does have LTE capabilities, no?

I live in the US and the LTE bands that the phone has are not the same bands as our carriers use so you wont be able to get LTE on the X2 here on any carrier.

The Future: Huawei Mate 8 vs P9 Max vs LeMax (US and other LTE Bands?!?)

OK, maybe it's a subset of groups, but the quest for the Holy Grail >6" and <7" Phone continues.
There are a few mid-ranges like Oppo R2 plus, Lenova is just Phab, but a good truly modifiable flag ship type phone seems out of grasp (your mileage may vary). [I actually have been swapping back and forth between the X2 and Note4 enough to make my head spin. I love the customization on the Note4 (use TekHD and OverDrive). BUT 6.3" seems like the perfect sweet spot between the X2 and the Note4.]

1) The cool LeTV LeMax. Super cool actually, but misses the US LTE criteria which only partially reduces the pangs of want).

2) Next up is the Huawei Mate 8

How a company does a 6P, Mate S, and now the Mate 8 as THE Flagship, but I'll like it if it is bigger than the 6" and does US LTE
3) So amongst the many Huawei flagships comes the P9 Max, which may be the favorite here in this forum as a successor phone.
P9 Max (6.2" sweet spot). Hope they are smart enough to include us dumb Americans.
4) Maybe the Vivo X6 also?

My only thought is that a 7 inch screen with a 16:10 ratio IS the sweet spot for me, so if it's any smaller or bigger I'm not really interested. Unfortunately that rather restricts my choices, so it's a good job I'm happy with my X2 for now!

If it had US LTE it would and the 702 took custom ROMs easily, it would probably be next to perfect for me, but looking for discussion on other devices.

When I purchased my X2 I actually wanted a P8 Max but the price was too high for me to drop the money on since it still didn't have LTE support here as well as the X2 having a larger battery helped make my decision. The Phab plus has too small of a battery for me to think about buying one. If the Mate 8 comes with full LTE support I'd probably buy one of those as well as the P9 Max. I'm looking for my next purchase to have LTE support as well as band 12 support now that it's pretty prevalent here on Long Island where I live. I'd like something around 6.2" to use as a daily driver and something 6.8 to 7 inches to use as well. I'll probably just stick to the X2 because I like it a lot. My Nexus 6 doesn't get the best battery life and that's the main reason I will sell it. Oh, and it's ONLY 6", lol. The problem is, on many forums I see people complaining that a phone is too big and they ask how others can use something so big. That annoys me as there are PLENTY of smaller phones out there as well as plenty of 5.5-5.7 inch phones as well but not too many over 6 inches.
The 24th and 26th coming up for some announcements.
I don't know if the P9 Max will be discussed or held until MWC.
I was on a trip this week and the lack of LTE really impacted me, compared to my work iPhone (blehck).
Ok, the Mate 8 is outted formally
Wow. If the 8 follows the Mate S trend to support the ATT/GSM frequency bands, this graduates from could buy to must buy. Only the P9 Max vaporware would hold me back.
Happy Thanksgiving all.

If the Mate 8 comes to my country (U.S.) then I will definitely be buying one to replace my Nexus 6. Then hopefully the P9 Max or Mediapad X3 support LTE here and if they do I'll be buying one of those as well. I'm really liking the design of some of these Chinese phones. They are much nicer than almost all the stuff they force down your throat here in the U.S and the batteries are much larger.

Agreed, somehow the Chinese phones have adopted a modern looking industrial design than what Samsung and LG are putting out in their flagship products. The design of the X2 attracted me immediately, as it looks like what I hoped the 2013 Nexus 7 would be. And it's a phone as well!
Anyway, I'm really liking the designs that Huawei, Meizu and Xiaomi are coming out with these days. I remember having a Meizu M6 MP3 player almost 10 years ago that had a surprisingly compelling design that mixed the iPod Nano and iPod Video. Them were the days: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meizu_M6_miniPlayer

I will trade in my Note 4 for a Mate 8 and maybe X2 for an X3 predicated on US LTE support. I agree the designs are going upscale, and beating the US in battery and other Phablet features. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 and Gionee GN8001 would sell here I think if local LTE supported.

The screenshot says it has a 16:10 2560x1600 screen but the article says it has a 16:9 2560x1440 screen. Which one is it? I'm guessing it's 16:9 as 1440p panels are likely more common at that screen size than 1600p. Either way, I think 1440p/1600p panels make more sense on larger screens than on the current crop of 5-5.7 inch phones.
I hope Huawei doesn't discontinue the Mediapad X series however, just because it is so unique.

I saw that today also. There is a press conference at CES which was thought to be tge Z5 Ultra. I owned the Z Ultra and has been painful watching the 5 successive models go by. We'll see what rumors come true.
For some reason I have never liked Sony's Phones. I had a Z Ultra before the X2 and hated it so much I returned it. I hated the bezels being too large, I hated the undersized battery and I especially hated the door for the MicroUSB charger which ended up falling off constantly. If new Z Ultra has less bezel and a large battery I'd consider picking one up though.

I'm kinda' anti-sony now, regardless. They were always good with replacement phones but my last one they said sorry, won't even fix (for the price of one on swappa). At this point I think a new Ultra may never come out despite Z5 & Z6 rumors. They didn't pan out for Z2 Ultra, Z3 Ultra, Z4 Ultra. It's actually part of the reason I'm waiting on you getting the 702L. I bricked the last "extra" ultra and don't want to do same with the 702L, which is more than a hold over phone with all the improvements by you and in the forum.

HA, I bricked the Ultra as well but not with software. I bought one of those magnetic charging cables for it and plugged it in upside down (it never said anywhere it couldn't be plugged in either way) and the phone shut off and that was all she wrote.
Yup, I was considering getting the Google Play edition of the Z Ultra, but the lack of camera flash (??!) and the enormous top and bottom bezels made it a non-starter. Part of me also thinks that a Z6 Ultra will ultimately be vaporware.
Sony Mobile isn't doing well at all, and I don't see how they would risk their brand name by attaching it to so many different models.

I forgot about the camera not having a flash. That was a big thing as well as I use the flash for a flashlight all the time. Let's hope they learned from their mistakes (although even the new models they just put out still have huge bezels.

Huawei Mediapad M2 7.0 is the mediapad x2 successor (and the rumored mediapad x3)

Hi
today Huawei announced mediapad m2 7.0, and it's the device that was rumored to be the mediapad x3
its design and most specs are similar to the current x2, the main differences are :-
comes in a wifi version, and dual sim LTE option
have a fingerprint sensor
snapdragon 615 processor
less battery capacity, 4360
it have the same screen and cameras, it's not a big step from the current device.
the battery capacity is sadly a downgrade, and if the device came with a more power efficient 14nm processor then we might get a better battery life even with the smaller battery (but sadly we're getting the old snapdragon 615)
I care a lot for the fingerprint sensor so I think I will recommend the new one going forward instead of the x2
another notable point is that this device comes with Android 5.1 , this is amazing how it's not with Android 6, with its screen size it have to get android N for the proper multitasking.

It's possible but with CM always being buggy i'm not sure if it would be good thing. Then again EMUI is just as buggy so.....
Maybe this one the additional bands could be unlocked to get 4G LTE in the US if possible.
the specs isn't as good apart from the fingerprint sensor. The x2 is still more powerful coupled with its bigger batterycapacity. I'll just wait patiently for the proper mediapad X3.

Comments by the seller here say their x3 listing is populated from TENAA certification information.
Hopefully this is true, it's sucks to be waiting for the supposed x3 for so long knowing I could pick up a m2-7 right now.
Hello I am digging out this old thread, because a user of the M2 7.0 did confirm me that you cannot make phonecalls without using headset or speakers .
For me it's quite a difference with a successor of X3 !!
Do you think I misunderstood, and that the M2 is rally usable on your ear, like a phone (same as X2)?

Buying Honor X2 GEM-703L for USA market (AT&T) vs Mediapad X2 702L..any concerns?

Hello!
My Xperia Z Ultra bit the dust after being with me for a while...so I can either get another C6833 or try the Mediapad X2. I would like the extra real state (would have loved stereo speakers like the P8 Max). It sucks not having NFC but I will deal with that I guess.
Just wondering if there are any benefits of the Honor 703L over the Mediapax 702L in my case.
Thanks!

No benefits when it comes to service here in the US. The 703L gets all the updates while the other models rarely do. I'd go for the 703L and then unlock, update to B209, then install twrp, and flash KangVIP Slim of course.
703 is easier to root right?

Next great Media pad X2 with BIG screen?

What new big phones has anyone seen that compares to the Huawei Media Pad/Honor X2? I'm only interested in phones that are over 6.3 inches....
PS: Moderator... Please don't move this post to "off Topic"
The Mediapad M3 is a good choice. It already has 6.0, is on betaprogram for 7.0, has stereo and fingerprint and is in the same price range as the x2. It can be rooted, but there is no developer, who customized it to have extended features like AJ did for the X2. He took the Chinese KangVIP version for the x2 and transformed for international usage. But there is no KangVIP addition for the M3, as far as I know.
The other thing is that the m3 has no ear speaker, so all your calls will be heard in room by other people. So the usage of headset is mandatory.
My device: 701->703 B212 KangVIP AJ Xposed
I actually have had the MediaPad M3 8.4 for 6 months now but I am finding it a little big now. If I use it for longer periods my hand gets cramped from holding it.
Also the lack of an ear speaker is sometimes inconvenient.
Before the M3 I had the MediaPad M2 8.0 and before that the MediaPad X2 7.0.
I am now considering getting an X2 again because I can get it quite cheap.
But the best option would probably be the Honor Note 8. It's got a faster CPU than the M3, 4Gb RAM, up to 128GB ROM, 2.5d 6.6" screen and I think it will be noticeably easier to hold than the M3 and the X2 because it is a lot less wide.
And it will probably get Nougat in a few months.
Try searching for Huawei Honor Note 8. It seems good but I'll still wait for some months before replacing my X2.
If you don't set no great store on the camera, get the the mate 8, for it has maximum xda support.
The Note 8 has a better specs, but I haven't cleared the xda support for this. If does not have it's own forum.
It's not available on Amazon in germany.
My device: Mediapad X2 GEM 701->703 B212 KangVIP (AJ mod)
Come on people! What are some super size phones coming out this year?
I got the Honor Note 8 64GB.
For the price you won't find a better phablet.
I got it rooted and Xposed runs as well.
It's fast, the 2k Amoled screen is fabulous and with 4GB RAM, 64GB ROM and a 256GB MicroSD card I can install all my Apps and take all my documents with me..
This phone looks nice... ZenFone 3 Ultra (ZU680KL)

Love this thread. While I have little to contribute, I'd like to add to your question by adding why can't I get 6.5+ inch screen with 4G bands in the US? I'm willing to pay big and I'm sure so are others...so why are we screwed?

Zen phone looks intriguing. Could be a winner if it has T mobile 4G bands.
Honor Note 9 is rumored to be released very soon! It's a 6.6 inch bezel-less screen with dual lens rear camera.

Now THIS phone sounds amazing with a battery same size as the X2 and faster CPU. Is the 6.6 bezelless screen as big as the 7.0 X2? If so, it could be the only thing I would upgrade to!

Zenphone is very nice having a battery almost as big as the X2 but way too expensive from what I remember last time I checked...

Yeah!! That Honor Note 9 will be my next one after our beloved x2. I can't wait! I hope the price will be reasonable just like the x2 before.
Now the rumored leaked specs have been updated to a lesser 4600mAh battery from 5000mAh and a lesser Kirin 965 from 970. Very disappointing! I was hoping for a battery capacity at least as big as the X2 and not any smaller. I hope these new rumors are incorrect...
It could be that the new CPU/etc is more efficient, but I'd still rather have the bigger battery just in case!
What are your thoughts?

I'll just wait for the actual release of the Honor Note 9 as different sources are saying different specs. Hopefully they release it soon

UPDATE:
A new leak prices this device at $750 USD which sounds quite overpriced to me if true. I'm still hoping the battery will be higher than the suspected 4600mAh!

Aside from the GPS issues, my main frustration with the X2 is NFC and no matter how hard I look for a replacement that is as big or at least as close as possible, they never have NFC! :/
I was looking at the new Note 8 thinking I would sacrifice size if it was at least 6.5" for the NFC and OLED but Samsung is still going with that ridiculous aspect ratio...oh well.

See here about this issue. At least one android 6 rom does fix it!
Couldn't deal with the crappy signal on my X2 any longer and picked up a Posh Volt LTE 640. 6.4 inch screen and a 5800 mamp battery with Octocore processor and 3 gigs of RAM....and best of all, 4G LTE here on T-Mobile in the USA!!!! It kinda looks like a slightly smaller version of the X2. Very hard to find this one but I managed to find a retailer with a used one in like new condition on Amazon for only $170. Until somebody delivers a 7 inch phone with 4G LTE in the USA, this will have to do.
Major downside is only 32 gigs of non-expandable memory. But hey, don't plan to use it too long.
What do you think of Uhans Max 2?

Hey Guys
What do we think of this ?
ZTE AXON M.. dual 5.2"screen foldable, is it a credible upgrade from X2 ?
I am consider it seriously
