hi there, hope everyone is doing okay. I'm here in pak, I've at&t g4 and whenever I put a simcard in it so it won't catch signals and asking me to unlock the phone. Can someone please tell me how do I unlock it? Is there any way to do so? Thanks

So I'm heading to Scotland in May on the 20th and was hoping to unlock my new Sidekick 4G before the trip but it seems Tmobile has not updated their systems with the proper unlock codes for the newest device. Samsung has agreed to help me but I need to provide them T-mobiles NCK or Network Control Key. After trying to take to T-mobile to get the key they simply tell me they cannot provide it and will simply input my request to unlock.
Has any one had any luck yet unlocking this or maybe know the NCK that I need to have Samsung do it for me?
Please and Thanks all around I appreciate any and all help!
*Oh and throw my hat in for the Rom/Theme development too!*

I'm no expert at unlocking phones, but gutty posted a suggestion: this thread.
It may be possible to do it this way, but I wouldn't be for sure. On the sk4g, the nv_data.bin is located in /efs/root/afs/settings/nv_data.bin
Yeah, if someone could attempt the process at the above mentioned link that would be great. Your other option is to use a third party to unlock the sidekick. unlockallcellular.com is supposed to offer an unlock.
My sidekick will be arriving this week, from the States, so hopefully an unlock will be coming soon. If not, I will try the third party i mentioned and report back if it works.
I don't mean to thread jack, but does anybody know if this phone will be on any other carrier other than T-Mobile? I have AT&T, and I want to get it, but I also want the 3g to work also...
i tried the unlock process... no luck tried to get code from unlock freedom also no luck i need the phone unlocked asap because my gf leaves the country in 2 weeks.

Its Totally unlockable by code!
BUT you will need to get the code from "Samsung manufacturer" method rather than tmobile. Tmobile database will not have the NCK code.
Try cellunlocker.net , but it can be pretty pricey to unlock that fine pie of machinery

So just wanted to update everyone whos wondering I contacted T-mo a 2nd time after not hearing anything for a week. They re-submitted my request and within 48 hrs I had my unlock code and did the deed with no issues. Hope this helps those in need.

Do you just call customer service and ask for an unlock code?
YES Tmobile will give you the unlock code for any phone on the following prerequisites
1) that is was used on a Postpaid LINe simcard for a week
2) you fax them the receipt that you bought any tmobile phone unlocked
this is how i did it with my LG Optimus T i got last easter prepaid at $158

Order was placed, 5/3/2011, received my code, 05/12/2011. Worked fine.
I was a bit upset with the turnaround time, but they blamed T-mobile's database for that.
So, if any of you are unable to have T-mobile unlock the device for you, the company above, can do it fine.

If you bought yours from the T-Mobile store like me, they said I had to wait one week before they would give me an unlock code.

Sure, you could do that, or actually go to the store, but the reps pissy for doing what they are supposed to do. Its all up to you.

Thanks. I actually had to drive quiet a ways to the tmobile store because we dont have one in town so Im hoping it doesnt have to come to that.

As glhturbo had pointed out in another thread, cellunlock.net does it for $20/phone but with this code crackb50 you get 50% off. Worked great for my T-Mobile Sensation. Enjoy! =)

Not true. They can't stop you from unlocking it, but they don't have to do it for you. They just started unlocking iPhones after all.

Not quite accurate. A few years back AT&T was sued in a class action lawsuit regarding their phones being sim locked. To settle the class action they agreed to unlock phones for active customers who have been with AT&T for nine months free of charge. This agreement covered all devices except the iPhone. Finally, recently due to political pressure they agreed to unlock out of contract iPhones also. But in all cases you must have a current account with AT&T for them to provide you with a free unlock. If you are no longer a current customer or the phone is linked to an account in arrears then your only option is a paid unlocking service.
There are no laws in the US saying carriers have to unlock their phones.
Can someone please tell me if it is possible to use a prepaid Sim with a TMob Edge? If so would it have to be a Tmob brand Sim card? If this is not possible stock would it be possible through root access and possibly a rom change? I'd ultimately like to be able to use an AT&T prepaid sim. Thank you in advance for any info. I'm in a time crunch for this info so i really appreciate it.
P.S.- is this phone carrier unlocked out of the box?

The phone is not carrier unlocked out of the box. You will have to sim unlock through T-Mobile or another source if T-Mobile will not unlock it for you. It should work with an AT&T prepaid sim after you sim unlock.

Tmo will unlock it only if there is no balance on your phone. They will ask you why you want to unlock then give you the pin to unlock.

I just received my unlock code for my Note 4. They will actually send you the unlock code after 40 days of purchase. I am on jump and still paying for my device and now it's unlocked.!! Just call t-mobile after you have had your device for 40 days and request the code.

Yes you need T-Mobile to unlock it. If not it doesnt matter if you have it rooted or not. You wont be able to use other sim cards or carrier's if you dont have it unlocked by T-Mobile.

So i just called and requested an international and carrier unlock. I was told that there was two ways to unlock it, first way being just a carrier unlock and second way being both international and carrier unlock which is what i requested. Then they asked for my imei and my email address and said that i would recieve the code and instructions via email within 24 hours. Is this the same process that you went through bryanthomas007? After completing this process is it possible to use a prepaid service?
