Please, if you know other CVE (kernel related only!) for 2016, can you post them here? I will look after it.
CAUTION:
Always proceed recovery backup first (boot only checked for kernel' restore).

[ROM] New build: 20160815
CM11's bandwagon moves to 20160815 (August security upgrade).
You can use:
Battery friendly latest August' security 20160815 cm11 +3originals:
- mar-V-in fake signature for nogapp (android_frameworks_base-KK-LP.patch);
- inverted broken xposed & SELinuxModeChanger (http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/118800/);
- wakelockblocker cherry-picked from crdoid 4.4.
You can flash it over cm-11...Official...zip and vice versa. (CM Updater)
Caution & Warnings
Caution: blocking critical wakelocks can lead to bootloop; so always proceed full backup from recovery before unknown tries.
Also, be aware that if you over-flash original cm (without WakelockBlockers), your rom will work as new ota (without bootloops); but if you flash again modified cm with WakelockBlockers, you will find back your precedent settings on ticked wakelocks.
Warnings: before sharing logs with other, ensure that your log does not include some personal data under blocked wakelocks' description; ex: xxx @ gmail.com ...
(nota: there are no analytics or any network exchanges on your blocked wakelock list; conversely WakelockBlocker can definitively help to stop such intrusive behaviours.)

This is my personal rom -- source build from CyanogenMod 11.0 codebase by using portions from Evervolv (device tree, kernel, etc.). I have used few necessary modifications which I have learnt from other xda/github members (see in credits section).
Disclaimer
I am not the orginal author this ROM, I have just built it for my private pleasure. This ROM has been tested and verified to be stable for daily use, and even if I have spent a lot of my spare time into keeping it up-to-date, there may be some unknown bugs. Therefore be warned: If you rely on your device as it is your only phone be very cautious. If you decide to flash this ROM, you do it at your own risk and I am not responsible for any resulting damages!

Bugs in this ROM
- All bugs which are present in CM and Evervolv roms, e.g. Video Recording and MMS not working: You can try Videocam Illusion (audio at 44.1KHz!) and Textra SMS instead
- Sometimes the cLock widget does not display weather icons (Just remove the widget and add it again)
- According to user feedback, Exposed framework in combination with Gravitybox is no longer working on this rom!

Bugs with K3
- Some SD cards are not working with the latest rom version 2.0; In such case the rom gets stuck at the bootanimation, and you would find a bunch of logcat errors, e.g.:
Code:
I/dalvikvm( 95): Unable to open or create cache for /system/framework/conscrypt.jar (/data/dalvik-cache/[email protected]@[email protected])
D/dalvikvm( 95): Unable to process classpath element '/system/framework/conscrypt.jar'
E/dalvikvm( 95): Could not stat dex cache directory '/data/dalvik-cache': No such file or directory
-> Possible solution #1 if you want to stay with K3: try a different SD card..
-> Possible solution #2: Flash this rom with K2
Please let me know if you find bugs. And please take a logcat if you encounter a FC (force close). Here you can learn to logcat like a pro!

* From now on there is only one build with kernel 2.6.38 (default CPU gov: smartassH3) which offers great speed and battery life (daily driver)
* If you want to have kernel 3.0.16 (experimental) use this flashable zip
* Patched the previously missed out security holes in both kernels (2.6.38 and 3.0.16) as mentioned by walter79
* Compiled the kernel with UBER toolchain 4.9.4 for increased speed and battery life
* Build target reverted to userdebug as there were a few problems with getting root

Attention:
* To install KitKANG version 3 you have to
** switch back to the "old" KK version of TWRP (credits @Chromium) or 4EXT (credits @madmaxx82) Recovery. Old versions of CWM may cause issues.
** switch back to the "old" hboot which has a system partition of 250mb. These include stock hboot or Alpha Jelly (250/5/182) hboot.
General requirements:
- Rooted
- An hboot which provides a system partition with 250mb. These include stock hboot or Alpha Jelly (250/5/182) hboot.
- A 512mb - 1.5gb EXT partition (EXT4 recommended) on your sdcard. Use this guide to create the partition. Partitions made using other tools (CWM, Minitool Partition Wizard, etc.) will likely cause issues.
- The latest TWRP (credits @Chromium) or 4EXT (credits @madmaxx82) Recovery. Old versions of CWM may cause issues.
Instructions for installing KitKANG v3.1
1) Backup your current apps incl. their data (use Titanium backup from Appstore)
2) Backup your current ROM from recovery
3) In recovery do a full wipe (format all partitions except for SD)
4) Flash rom
5) Boot and let the rom settle down (3-5 min)
6) Enable developer settings
- Open Settings > About Phone and tap 7 times on the "Build number"
- In Developer settings enable "Advanced boot menu"
7) Enable A2SD
- run Terminal Emulator
- type 'su' and press enter
- allow root access in the popup query

What's new in v3.0:
* Patched Stagefright 2.0 & Android Security Updates from Nov 2015
* After considering usage reports from version 2.0, I decided to return to 250mb hboot and A2SD which will allow our ancient device to get the most out of Android 4.4.4
* Made one build with kernel 2.6.38 (default CPU gov: smartassH3) which offers great speed and battery life (daily driver)
* Made other build with kernel 3.0.16 (default CPU gov: smartassH3) which offers great speed and short battery life (experimental)
* Changed animation/transition scale defaults to 25% which lead to faster animations and smoother UI transitions
* Attention: this build's target is user instead of userdebug. This is for disabling debugging modules and root, in exchange it should result in higher performance. In case you need root, you need to flash SuperSU (see installation instructions).

What's new in v1.2:
1) Use Data2ext4 (credits walter79)
* This is meant to permanently solve the biggest remaining pain that bravo kk users have: running out of space on /data
* Makes using A2SD scripts from Evervolv obsolete
* Requires a SD-EXT partition on SD card of size between 1GB and 4GB
* Requires a custom hboot which provides sufficient space on /system (e.g. 420-5-12)
2) Added quite a few tweaks and build.prop mods:
* Increase ui responsiveness (credits CM)
* Enable slow blur (credits CM)
* Media profiles: use m4v to gain performance improvements (credits walter79)
* Improved incoming call response time (if screen is turned off the call appears now after ~3 seconds) (credits walter79 and pixelfreak)
* Per default KSM enabled (gives our device more virtual RAM)

I am glad to hear that it boots! :good:
I also could not connect to wifi sometimes -- I have solved it by inserting a SIM card.
Is this working a liitle bit? So can i use this? Or is this just such an alpha test rom, which does not really work?
I have experienced only a few soft reboots (when adding/tapping on a widget). And it has sometimes graphic glitches (black regions in stock browser like in Nikez KK).
Apart from that following things are working:
- Telephony
- USB mass storage
- Bluetooth
- Wifi (with inserted SIM only)
- 3G
- Camera
Not working:
- Videorecording

- Wifi (network with wpa2 security) is still not working although i inserted a sim card. Maybe the sim card has to be inserted during flashing the rom or the first boot?
- 3G works without probs
- Gravity Box App has FC when i try to open it
- it seems that xposed framework 2.4 is not active (the app opens and is telling exactly what i wrote before). Even a new download and installation within the app doesn't solve that. Not even a reboot.
- Google Search has random FC's
Despite the Wifi-Problem, it's nealry possible to use this rom as a daily driver! Thanks for your effort Spezi for this development! :good:

You weren't exactly clear with your first question.
So if you understand what the hboots are, and the clear differences between stock and Alpha Jelly hboots, the answer which one is 'best' is pretty obvious...
Stock: 250MB /system, 40MB /cache, 147MB /data
Alpha Jelly: 250MB /system, 5MB /cache, 182MB /data
Would you like more data :good:. or would you like more cache ?

CyanogenMod is based on the Android Open Source Project with extra contributions from many people within the Android community. It can be used without any need to have any Google application installed. Linked below is a package that has come from another Android project that restore the Google parts. CyanogenMod does still include various hardware-specific code, which is also slowly being open-sourced anyway.
All the source code for CyanogenMod is available in the CyanogenMod Github repo. And if you would like to contribute to CyanogenMod, please visit out Gerrit Code Review. You can also view the Changelog for a full list of changes & features.

STK Toolkit isn't working yet, SMSs aren't properly sent (RIL issue)
SELinux policies are almost complete, with just some minor missing rules
Wireless Display (or Miracast if you like) stream is corrupted, buffer issues
Adoptable Storage isn't stable, crashes while encrypting the external storage (Kernel Panic). Read Here: http://goo.gl/0w6DPt
Device Encryption isn't stable for the same issue that affects Adoptable Storage
Reporting Bugs
First of all, read this: http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs
You are allowed to report bugs only in this thread. Before reporting a bug, please make sure you are running as stock as possible. This means no custom kernel, no custom framework modification, etc. If you are using any of the above modifications, please flash the rom again to get rid of the modifications before reporting.
REPORT BUGS IN THIS THREAD ONLY
Grab a logcat right after the problem has occurred. (Please include at least a few pages of the log, not just the last few lines, unless you know what you're doing.)
If it is a random reboot, grab /proc/last_kmsg. (Do not bother getting a logcat unless you can get it just before the reboot. A logcat after a reboot is useless)
If the problem disappears after running "setenforce 0" from a root shell, grab /data/misc/audit/audit.log
Remember to provide as much info as possible. The more info you provide, the more likely that the bug will be solved. The following is a useful format to follow. Note: If you can provide the latest night/build that the bug didn't exist, it would greatly help in tracking down what caused it.

Important! Read this before any other question/doubt.
If someone doesn't like my ROMs, or doesn't like me, or even better, doesn't want to like/appreciate my works, then you can just go ahead and use/follow someone else works. Easy, not against XDA rules, and smart.
I'm not here for "fame" (or "glory" as someone in this forum said) unlike someone else, neither this is my job. I'm working on this device just because TW is far than usable (at least for me) on every Samsung device, not because someone else requested me to do it.

Differences between GearCM (Optimized CyanogenMod) and Official CyanogenMod (NIGHTLY):
Degrated Shadow said:
Enough of those dumb questions..
The Official CM rom is maintained by @Alberto96 and @intervigil
He makes the very recent changes here relating to performance...which are then in time pushed (even if partially) to CM Official Sources. The kernel is different because it has seLinux disabled and few minor tweaks you might not even notice...this GearCM ROM will have more performance. But CM will have their updated base changes which are included here with each update.
What I mean is you probably wont even notice what's different in terms of user interface. GearCM will have more performance. Official CM will have updated sources. But it will include GearCM's changes in time as @Alberto96 pushes them to CM
You can decide by a simple choice..more performance and not-nightly updated sources or similar/worse performance (improving with nightly updates) with updated sources. I would choose GearCM because of the reasons i mentioned above. Do what you will...and let this be a note to everybody who ask this again and again and again. Don't spam the thread with same question in every alternate page...because there are other people who might have different problems they need to ask. Read at least 15 previous pages and the first post Changelog before asking the question. Reading most of the times will give you a solution and if not most of the info you will read will help you anyway.

Where is "Developer Options" category?
To activate 'Developer Options' category in Settings you need to tap 7 times on 'Build number' located into Settings -> About Phone.
What can i do to fix VOIP audio calls?
There's not a real fix yet, so i found this useful workaround that could help you.
If you need to make a VOIP call:
1) Play something using stock music player (also third-party music players SHOULD be fine)
2) Do not pause audio playback
3) Make a call using your preferred VOIP app.
Or you can just use a Wired Headphone/Headset | BT Headphone/Headset.
This workaround should work also for incoming VOIP calls.
How can i solve problems with Hebrew language?
Go to "Developer Options" in Settings and check "Force RTL layout direction".
What can i do to reduce the "echo effect" while in-call?
Try to reduce in-call earpiece volume (if possible). Shouldn't be required on latest builds.
I'm having problems with battery life, what can i do?
1) Use "Greenify" to hibernate all apps with a "little cloud + 'Gcm' word inside" on the right of each app's name. Donation version is recommended because it allows deeper hibernation of apps
2) Disable "Location" or set it to mode "Battery Saving" (Settings -> Location)
3) Make sure that your 2G/3G mobile network signal level isn't always low or unstable
4) Deny "Wake Up" and "Keep Awake" permissions to Google and third-party apps. (Settings -> Privacy -> Privacy Guard -> Press menu button and check "Show built-in apps" -> Press menu button again and go to Advanced -> Horizontal Scroll to Device)
5) Disable "Sync" or sync only useful stuff like Contacts
6) Disable "Auto-rotate screen" (Settings -> Display & lights -> Rotation)
7) Use one of the latest Modem/Baseband listed on first post.
8) Disable Ambient Display
9) Install Xposed Framework and configure Amplify
If this isn't enough then replace your battery and/or reduce your phone usage. :silly:
Is GearCM OTA supported?
Yes (Since 20150707 Build)
Why is my phone over-heating while playing heavy-games or running heavy-apps?
Use a bit your brain to explain why. High CPU and GPU usage = high heat production. Your phone will automatically throttle CPU when needed so don't worry, it is safe and normal.
Can I use another kernel instead of the one included in the zip?
No. Only use the included kernel for 100% compatibility, bug reports with non-standard kernel will be ignored.
Can i disable S-View cover features (lock/unlock)?
Not yet.

[ROM] Unofficial Omnirom 6.0 for Galaxy S 4G

Code:
Code:
/*
* Your probably long expired warranty is now void.
*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this ROM
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you
* and point my finger right back at you.
*/
Installation Instructions
Make sure you have a second partition on your SD card formatted to ext4 before flashing!!!! This can be created with either CWM recovery or with TWRP. gparted on Linux should also work. If you "SD card not supported" try repartitionning. If you get "Encryption unsuccesful" then you need to format the second partition as ext4 (or f2fs, your choice).
If on a BML rom (stock-based GB)...
1. Reboot to recovery
2. Make sure your version of CWM is at least 5.x
3. Install zip. It will reboot a couple of times, don't be worried.
4. If you want gapps, reboot to recovery, wipe data+cache and install gapps.
5. If you want root, flash SuperSU whenever
If on an MTD rom (CM7 and all ICS+)
1. Reboot to recovery
2. Wipe data, dalvik/art cache, system, and cache partitions
3. Install zip
4. If you want root or Gapps, install them now.
The first boot can take several minutes. Be patient. If it takes 10+ minutes, pull the battery and reboot to recovery.
Things to Take Note Of
I actually have a T959P, not a T959V... It was released by Telus in Canada. It is a very similar device (I can run ROMs for the T959V with limited problems - ie sometimes I get wakelocks and the gps never works), it has a different GPS chipset and also uses different cell bands (but I can still use your guys modems but I lose access to the 850Mhz band). I have created a build specifically for the T959V as best as I can guess.
Bluetooth only enables from the notification pulldown, not when you go directly to settings. It does work just fine afterwards though
If you're coming from either the last Lollipop build or the initial pre-release Marshmallow build, there is a bug in TWRP that will prevent flashing anything but the ROM. To get around this, please flash the Marshmallow zip, then reboot to recovery, and then follow the typical instructions.
If you decide to install gapps at a later date (ie after you've installed the ROM), you must do a factory reset first - otherwise you will get force-closes upon bootup
If you come across a bug, feel free to let me know by posting in this thread. I will not be working non-stop on this project, but will try to fix bugs that affect me as this is still my main phone (out of choice, not necessity).
This build is very close to the official omni source code. This means that the recovery is TWRP and there aren't any added "features"
In order to get it rooted, you need to install SuperSu.
Gapps eat up about an extra 30MB of RAM so they slow down the device - tread carefully.
Backup Backup Backup! I'm not responsible for you losing any data.

Semi-Working
Powered-off charging animation - works at first, but then stops working. Seems to be an Omni problem, but it still charges...
What doesn't
SElinux is currently in permissive mode. Will not be going to enforcing, this would require a data wipe as well
What's been removed
TV-Out - It was removed upstream plus I think binary blobs would need a ton of shimming in Lollipop+
Everything else is not tested!!!

Thanks Time!
Thanks Time!
This would not have been possible without the following people:
Thanks to humberos for bringing Lollipop to the first-gen Galaxy S series. This would not have been possible without his work.
Thanks to FB and Dao for their work on the CM-11 device tree. I used several of their fixes.
Thanks to noiphonehere for his device trees and kernel, most of my work was based off of his.
Thanks to the OMAP4 AOSP team for their work on porting CMA to a 3.0 kernel.
Thanks to bhundven and the other members of teamacid for their work on the aries kernel.
Thanks to all others that have helped get this phone to where it is today!
Thanks to vcmerritt. A name you're probably not familiar with, but he was the only one to create something for the T959P and without him I'd still be on stock...
Build your own!
Follow the instructions at http://docs.omnirom.org/Setting_Up_A_Compile_Environment using the android-6.0 branch
Before doing a repo sync, put the galaxy_s_series.xml file from the Downloads folder in .repo/local_manifests folder of the source tree (create the local_manifests folder if necessary).
After syncing the source, open a terminal and in the directory where you downloaded the source code type "./device/samsung/aries-common/patches/apply_patches.sh" to apply the patches necessary to have a working build. Then run "source ./build/envsetup.sh" and then "brunch galaxys4gmtd". For future builds, only the envsetup and the brunch parts are necessary. Please note that you will have to re-run the apply_patches.sh script after each time that you run repo sync. (Note: the patch script no longer runs automatically)
You should be able to use my trees for other first-gen galaxy S devices. You will need to apply a patch similar to https://github.com/xc-racer99/andro...mmit/fe6bc6b82881a12fc4a5647812f3cf0f52f79c6a to your device tree (if coming from Omni 5.1). I haven't done anything to P1 trees and may have broken the kernel for it...

Gapps
Gapps cause the first boot to be very, very laggy. Things do improve after that. The best way to get through the Setup Wizard (IMO) is to skip everything possible (ie connecting to Wifi, settings up a Google Account, etc) and then reboot. You can manually add a Google Account later in Settings. While any (small) Marshmallow gapps should work, I have had success with OpenGapps pico package from www.opengapps.org (untested on recent builds).
SuperSu
SuperSu can be found at http://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/supersu. If on May 2016+ builds, systemless 2.71 works (other systemless versions may work, untested). If you're on an older build, you need to either force system mode (create a file in /system or /data called .supersu with the contents "SYSTEMLESS=false") or use an older version (ie version 2.52 or earlier). August 2016 build updates the systemless to 2.76.
Woooow thanks
As you suggested, Gapps caused lots of problems...made the ROM very slow and laggy, lots of FC's, lots of random reboots, etc. I re-flashed without Gapps. Was able to restore apps with TB and root with SuperSu. The basics...calling, browsing, messaging, camera...are working fine. Haven't taken it for a ride yet, but GPS test picked up 5 satellites and I haven't even taken it outside yet. If I desperately need another app, I guess I can find the .apk somewhere. Since I did a TWRP backup, maybe next week I'll try the pico gapps again and see what happens. At any rate, wonderful work.
Update: Took it out for a spin this afternoon....GPS works fine.
Been running the 1/7 for a few days. loving it so far

Changelog for 2016-01-23

I've also uploaded a T959P build as I had a request for one. Let me know if you guys find any more bugs.
New build flashed fine although I had to re-flash the SuperSU zip...no problem since I already had it on my SD card. I'll let it rest up for a day or two and then I'll try to flash the pico-gapps and see if it
will run smoothly....good job.

Sounds good. Do note that when/if you flash gapps, you will need to do a complete data wipe first, otherwise you will get force-closes like crazy.
I've always just reflashed SuperSU manually and never relied on the script to restore it so I can't help you there.
Tried to install over MTD SlimSaber with TWRP 2.7.0.0, kept getting Status: 7 error with updater.sh script.
Any way to fix this?
Thanks in advance.

Hmm, going back to to stock with a OneClick/Heimdall/Odin will work for sure.
Alternatively, check if there is an omni.cfg file on your SD card. If there is, delete it and try again. Also, if you can get me the exact wording of the error output that would be great, along with the omni_mtd.log file from the SDcard.

I will Heimdall One-Click back to KJ6 and reflash the ROM after checking for the omni.cfg, and will quote the output and the log if I get another error.
I'll be back by 5:00pm PST. I have school to take care of.
UPDATE:
Tried again after a full wipe [not a restore to stock] and got this:

Is there any kernel/recovery you recommend for flashing after restoring to stock?
I've tried before on AntonX Voodoo Lagfix recovery and got a similar error.

I typically used the Blastoff kernel, but I have my own one-click as I have a Canadian variant.
Also, the omni_mtd.log will tell which part of the updater.sh failed. Another thing to check is if you have a second partition on your SD card. This ROM requires one as /data is put there.

I'll try out Blastoff if I can find it. But it probably failed because I did not partition my sdcard. I'll see if that helps later.
Thanks a lot.

Hey, xc-racer99, after about four assorted blind attempts at installing your work, I flashed back to stock/AntonX kernel with Heimdall and full wiped, then used CWM to create a 4GB partition on my sdcard. The ROM installed through CWM, then TWRP without an error and booted up after fifteen minutes or so of OMNI animation, and is running on my SGS4G without any issues. The only noticeable lag was for the first five minutes after the initial boot. Now my device is gliding smoothly after a few tweaks in the performance settings and turning off background processes. Thank you so very much.
Next time, I'll read the entire post before blundering through the install process with the assumption that I know what I'm doing [as usual].
Sorry for the trouble, if indeed I was any.

Finally got pico gapps to run...the initial setup took quite a while but now that it's settled in, no problems. It's also interesting to note that Link2SD is running fine while it seems to be a major problem for other Lollipop & Marshmallow ROM's on other devices.

Wakelock+Alarm _Blocker & DozeEditor patch: Official2017 CM14(Lineage), CM13/12/11
Wakelock Blocker for Official 2016, Nightly CM11
All thanks to

If you fell donate then it should be to @maxwen, which seems to be the real ghost creator of wakelockblocker (Nov 2013) https://github.com/scotthartbti/and...mmit/2022015c1d7890873c54e7290ec0ca1391c6dc50
While mixing all this (cherry-picked from github) together, I finally succeed a 2x patch diff
to implement a working Wakelock Blocker in cm-11-2016xxx-NIGHTLY under Parameter/Performance/System.
I check the efficiency OK, on LGp880 & ASUStf700t with @chamonix' BetterBatteryStats.
The base diff includes inverted broken xposed & SELinuxModeChanger from zygote d8130142.diff http://review.cyanogenmod.org/#/c/118800/
There were 19 devices + 27 samsung on official 2016 KK nightly run, I hope some will patch theses 2 diff WITH 100% compatible:
- mar-V-in fake signature for nogapp microG https://github.com/microg/android_p...r/patches/android_frameworks_base-KK-LP.patch
That edition will keep same CVE as the official one and will stay untouched apart +3 above.
If you are baking a KK cm11-based rom , it should also be compatible. You tell me.

Caution & Warnings*
Caution: blocking critical wakelocks can lead to bootloop; so always proceed full backup from recovery before unknown tries.
Also, be aware that if you over-flash original cm (without WakelockBlockers), your rom will work as new ota (without bootloops); but if you flash again modified cm with WakelockBlockers, you will find back your precedent settings on ticked wakelocks.
Warnings: before sharing logs with other, ensure that your log does not include some personal data under blocked wakelocks' description; ex: xxx @ gmail.com ...
Code:
packages/apps/Settings/src/com/android/settings/applications/WakeLockBlocker.java
...Log.d("maxwen", pm.getSeenWakeLocks());
(nota: there are no analytics or any network exchanges on your blocked wakelock list; conversely WakelockBlocker can definitively help to stop such intrusive behaviours.)
wip
How does it work
How to 2x your battery
The equation is simple 2xbattery=50%=20%a+20%b+10%c:
a) 20% thank to @MaR-V-iN for microG project ie nogapps
Not only the multiple google packages are pinging together, but the worse is the auto-updating ghost process (which sometimes leads in automatic battery drain due to obligatory “linux-reboot-post-validation-like").
Also, the use of your personal data stay unclear.
Thanks to @Bonoboo there are >100 gapp_pkg in MM
With original KK (3years ago) it was >60 gapp_pkg.
Of course microG won’t bring you all the fancy and amazing usages, but it should cover all your basic exigencies with privacy.
b) 20% thank to CyanogenMod’superuser (root)
DATA/LOCAL/userinit.sh (persistent to ota):
rm /dev/log/*;
rm /data/tombstones/*;
sysctl -w vm.dirty_writeback_centisecs=2000;
sysctl -w vm.dirty_expire_centisecs=1000;
Then using Greenify + f-droid : Adaway Autostarts FasterGPS will finalize an equivalent snappy ‘interactive’ on a ‘conservative’ frugal mode (cpu scaling_governor).
c)10% miscellaneous tips
SETTINGS/WIFI/MENU/ADVANCED: switch always to never
LAUNCHER : Smart Launcher (for phones) or craziest TinyLaunch from @arpruss (for tablet)
PRIVATE BROWSING : internal cm-made
FAST BROWSING 3G : Uc browser mini
GENERAL BROWSING wifi : Dolphin + Jetpack + Companion (Jetpack will supply missing Lollipop’s live webview on KK & Companion will bring WOT and trigger to reduce freeze) with option ‘open in new Tab’ to avoid excessive back-reload pages.
Try to avoid DLNA activity in background and track, with BetterBatteryStats, unnecessary wakelocks (once done you can greenify or disable it).
For more security, cm11 is fully compatible with these xposed modules: AppSettings, DirectApkInstall, Greenify, LightningWall, XposedMediaScanner and XposedRecentTasksRAM.
What's next
Once upgraded with these 2 transparency in-core modifications: microG & WakelockBlocker, privacy setup, on cm11, is OK.
Thanks to @noname81 no one is missing pie to use a phone/tablet easily: LMT Launcher (it’s funny to see many OEM copying Huawei for the mini-screen and they will discover pie...).
But a fundamental functionality is still missing for all ROMs: a basic sound mix table per apk. I can’t believe that Google Inc. did not make that already, (they must wait for a world marketing hit).
In simple words: play music or phone with relatives while watching TV or youtube… (for real!). I guess, once again, it’s question to DRM’s duty (you watch => you listen). Maybe, one day VLC will catch this in an all-in-one solution.
Does java, using stream.hasvideo Boolean attribute, in the right place, can dress a list to duck or mute /apk ?
This is the thread’s poll, since AppSettings is too far from the android core ?
If you want to get first similar rom, without unofficial build, you can follow these instructions (custom recovery is strongly recommended!):
Check whole thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/xposed-android-4-4-4-t3249895/page12 to reverse zygote(2015 Nov 8);
download Xposed version >=2.6.1. via the in-app updater or from http://dl.xposed.info/latest.apk and
http://forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/xposed-installer-versions-changelog-t2714053
Once you install/reboot the framework you should get a green 58/54 for xposed/framework.
For wakelock control, use @t2k269
http://repo.xposed.info/module/org.t2k269.perapphacking
If you block to many things and face bootloop just proceed (with caution!) :
reboot in recovery go to twrp menu/advanced/file manager /data/app and select org.t2k269.perapphacking__.apk for delete then once reboot successful finishes, re-install perapphacking and uncheck your last moves.

Just a note: it's not correct to count lines in my script for deleting gapps.
It contain a lot duplicates that cover different names / locations of APK's. Plus .odex and .lib files.

Remember that on KK, all the app were triggering wakelocks , so it was very useful to "break" intrusive or non-frugal ones with WakelockBlocker.
On LP, only very aggressive app are intrusive (like UCbrowser or GoogleNews&Weather)
On MM&N with doze (& Greenify), WakelockBlocker is almost useless but can still prevent intrusions or infections.
So actually on Nougat(, even if this add-on gives informative true list of all wakelocks triggered once), this didn't show up yet, but Beanstalk has always been favourite for mods...

Lenovo A5000 (Recovery, Root, ROMs, etc.) [REFERENCE/ARCHIVE]

THIS THREAD IS A REVAMP AND ARCHIVE OF THE All about Lenovo A5000 [Root,Recovery,Roms,....etc] THREAD FOR REFERENCE PURPOSES. THERE ARE NO GUARANTEES OF UPDATES.
WELCOME!
IMPORTANT: DISCLAIMER: Some actions will void your warranty so read fully before beginning the tutorials. The author take no responsibility for the outcome of your computer nor phone for following any instructions in this post.
Feel free to ask a question IF you can't find your answer in this post.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BACKUP
FIRST, you're going to need to BACKUP your device FULLY - no ifs, no buts, because it saves everyone the headache.
Tutorials here, there, and everywhere for that. https://pinoyscreencast.net/others/get-stock-rom-romdump-mediatek-mt6582-via-mtk-droid-root-tools/
Or just Google or YouTube "backup rom mt6582". Try not to go the method that asks you to remove your battery because: 1) that's usually not for phones like A5000, 2) there are other methods available. Get familiar with the process and comfortable with it. Note all the common things across the tutorials.
You have to flash a recovery (e.g. TWRP), then root, then you can do whatever you want.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
RECOVERY
Instructions For Installing Recovery via SP Flash Tool
This tutorial assumes you are on KitKat (KK) 4.4.2. If you are on Lollipop (LP) then follow the tutorial How To Rollback To KitKat.
Download SP Flash Tool (video tutorial on that page on how to install the driver too, which is a must).
Download TWRP v3.0.0.0 (A5000_TWRP_3.0.0.0.zip) from the link below and extract it (to A5000_TWRP_3.0.0.0). Now you can start.
IMPORTANT: You might lose your IMEI (both of them), your BT (Bluetooth) Address, your WLAN (Wi-Fi) Address, and your Serial No. (SN), so please note all of them down. You can find them through MTK Droid Tools or looking them up in [Settings] > [About phone] section, though this way doesn't show you everything.
Do not connect your phone to the computer until you are told to do so and please don't start this tutorial with low battery
Download SP Flash Tool for Windows or Linux (I have not tried the Linux version yet so I don't know how much different the Linux version will be)
Extract SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1628_Win.zip (to SP_Flash_Tool_v5.1628_Win)
In that folder open SP Flash Tool (flash_tool.exe - preferably right-click [Run as administrator])
On the Download tab, click [Scatter-loading] to load the scatter file (MT6582_Android_scatter.txt) which is located in A5000_TWRP_3.0.0.0
"Wait" for checksum to complete (about half a second...)
Under that make sure [Download Only] is selected from the drop-down menu and not [Format All + Download] nor [Firmware Upgrade]
Make sure your phone is turned off
Make sure Recovery is the ONLY THING TICKED
Click the [Download] button (big green arrow button at the top)
FROM HERE ON FORTH YOUR WARRANTY IS VOID (that is if you don't ever roll back to your stock backup that you made)
Without turning your phone on, connect it to the computer
It will start flashing the Recovery tool to your phone and when it is done a check mark will appear, click OK
Disconnect the phone from the computer. Done.

Instructions For Installing Root
For a simple method, you can use KingRoot, however this may not work for everyone and flashing SuperSU is recommended instead.
On the TWRP menu, tap [Install] and then select your root tool (e.g. recovery flashable SuperSU linked below) file that you transferred to your memory card (recommended), internal storage, or USB OTG, and install it
When it's done, Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache, NOTHING ELSE
Tap Reboot System and you're done.
NOTE: Your phone will stay on the Lenovo logo for 10-15 minutes on your FIRST boot up, so don't panic.

TUTORIALS
How To Rollback To KitKat From Lollipop
IMPORTANT: You might lose your IMEI (both of them), your BT (Bluetooth) Address, your WLAN (Wi-Fi) Address, and your Serial No. (SN), so please note all of them down. You can find them through MTK Droid Tools or looking them up in [Settings] > [About phone] section, though this way doesn't show you everything.
On the Download tab, click [Scatter-loading] to load the scatter file (MT6582_Android_scatter.txt) which it located in the folder of wherever you extracted your custom ROM to
"Wait" for checksum to complete (about half a second...)
Under that make sure [Firmware Upgrade] is selected from the drop-down menu and NOT [Download Only] nor [Format All + Download]
Make sure your phone is turned off
Make sure EVERYTHING IS TICKED
Click the [Download] button (big green arrow button at the top)
FROM HERE ON FORTH YOUR WARRANTY IS VOID (that is if you rolled back to someone else's dump of KK 4.4.2 and not your original backup of KK 4.4.2 that you made, IF you made one)
Without turning your phone on, connect it to the computer
It will start flashing the firmware to your phone and when it is done a check mark will appear, click OK
Disconnect the phone from the computer and boot up to check if it worked
How To Flash A Zip Or Img File via Recovery (e.g. ROM, G-Apps, Patch, Kernel, etc.)
IMPORTANT: You must be on kernel 3.4.67 to flash 3.4.67 kernel based ROMs, or on kernel 3.10.54 to flash 3.10.54 kernel based ROMs.
IMPORTANT: You might lose your IMEIs, your BT (Bluetooth) Address, your WLAN (Wi-Fi) Address, and your Serial No. (SN), so please note all of them down. You can find them through MTK Droid Tools or looking them up in [Settings] > [About phone] section, though this way doesn't show you everything.
Backup your entire ROM
If flashing a ROM, wipe the standard (Data, Cache, and Dalvik Cache in the [Wipe] menu (you WILL lose your Data (apps & stuff) so you BETTER have backed that up too)
On the TWRP menu, tap [Install] and then select your .zip or .img file that you transferred to your memory card (recommended), internal storage, or USB drive via OTG, and install it
When it's done, Wipe Cache and Dalvik Cache ONLY, then tap Reboot
Order of flashing queue: ROM > G-Apps > Patches
NOTE: Your phone will stay on the Lenovo logo for 5, 10, or even 15 minutes on your FIRST boot up, so don't panic.
How To Restore IMEI
Download MTK Droid Tools v2.5.3
When opening, make sure you extract it to a new folder, else you will have clutter everywhere
Connect phone, click ROOT (necessary) in bottom right, click Yes, and on the phone grant the permission
Now you can click "IMEI/NVRAM" button and enter them, click "Replace IMEI", when done click OK, click Reboot, and click Normal
Afterwards, reboot into recovery and backup NVRAM - this contains your IMEI
NOTE: If you could not click the "IMEI/NVRAM" button, root the phone first then retry the tutorial
How To Boot Into Recovery
Whilst the phone is turned off/first time after flashing recovery:
The method is actually a bit temperamental: Simultaneously press & hold both volume buttons and then press & hold the power button also (so you're now holding 3 buttons) and hold them until it vibrates AND the Lenovo logo comes onto the screen, then only let go of the power button; once you see the TWRP logo you can let go of the volume buttons
The first screen will ask you if you to confirm that you want to modify with your phone, swipe to confirm... this will not allow the phone to restore the original Lenovo Recovery
Now you're ready to flash Root tools, custom ROMs, patches, etc. that you downloaded
Whilst the phone is turned on:
Open the power menu
Tap Reboot, then immediately hold Vol+ & Vol- buttons and don't let go till it reboots and takes you to recovery menu

FREQUENTLY ANSWERED QUESTIONS
I flashed ... ROM and now it's not booting past the Lenovo logo, what do I do?
There's a thing called the kernel which talks with the phone's hardware. The Lenovo A5000 has two kernel versions 3.4.67 and 3.10.54. ROMs made for a certain kernel will not work on other kernel version. You either have to upgrade to Lollipop (3.10.54) or downgrade to KitKat (3.4.67).
I'm trying to flash this ... ROM but I'm getting "Error 7", what do I do?
DON'T wipe everything before flashing a custom ROM. Just do a normal factory reset i.e. clear Data, Dalvik Cache, and Cache.
Should the [email protected] kernel be flashed again after flashing a custom ROM?
If you downgraded to stock KitKat (S030) and are experiencing touch lag, then go ahead and flash it.
The kernel is already embedded in the custom ROMs shared here (exept for AICP 11), so why should you flash it again?
Some bugs like the camera bug embed itself into the Cache and a quick reflash of the kernel via recovery can temporarily fix the problem.
Can the modified boot.img of other ROMs be used for porting other ROMs?
The answer is mostly yes. Some AOSP ROMs (e.g. Validus) may have different ramdisk files, so you may get a bootloop. If you're trying to port a Cyanogen based ROM (e.g. Cyanogen..., Resurrection Remix, Temasek, etc.) you won't be getting this problem.
Which ROM and which version of it is the best?
A very subjective question so I can't answer it completely. Most users here use RR 5.7.4 or 5.5.9, CM 13 or 12.1, MiUI 8 or MiUI 7, etc. You'll have to try and choose for yourself.
Anyone working on Android 7?
Eek sounds like work. There's already an Nougat build for our device with kernel v3.10.54.
RIL is unstable and so is video decoding so wait for a stable build.
I flashed this ... ROM and now I'm getting boot animation in loop?
Use TWRP 3.x.x.x. Stay away from other TWRP versions like 2.8.x.x, 2.8.5.x, etc.
Is OTG working?
Our device started getting OTG from the S029 update onwards officially.
OTG is accessible via ES File Explorer in custom ROMS as well.

TipsyOS
Features
I successfully ported TipsyOS today. Seems that all works properly. Camera, Data, and Wi-Fi works. Bluetooth must be flashed separately. The ROM indeed looks like it's better than BrokenOS. See the screenshots I just made.
The ROM is stable, fast, and smooth, and seems to be better than BrokenOS. It has an amazing battery backup and awesome RAM management.
Bugs:
GPS partially working
VPN not working
Flash G-Apps directly after flashing the ROM, reboot, flash SuperSu.

Validus 6.0.1
Features
Performance wise the best I've used. Choose Nova Launcher on bootup it supports CyanogenMod Theme Engine (CMTE). This is the only ROM here that supports Cyanogen Theme Engine but has AOSP RAM management. Also has decent amount of customisation including headers.
Drawbacks:
1) Music player isn't sleek but ViPER4Android FX make up for it (you can always go for 3rd party)
2) No stock file explorer, so you have to download one from Google Play to get you started

FREQUENTLY ANSWERED QUESTIONS (CONTINUED)
I read the thread and still have problems with my IMEI/Wi-Fi/Bluetooth?
Please check that the IMEI number of your phone matches the one on its original box, if it doesn't then you can fix that by following the tutorial above. Remember: backup first, always. As for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, please include the first 6 characters of, both, your Wi-Fi Address (XX:XX:XX) and Bluetooth Address (XX:XX:XX), you may need to flash a patch/different ROM, or ask someone for help in the original thread (linked in the first line of this thread). Thank You.
ABC, XYZ, 123! Help?!
If you still cannot find the solution to your problem, then please try what you should have at the beginning - in the original thread (linked in the first line of this thread) use the search box that is on the RIGHT side of the screen. You will need minimum 10 posts to use the search box. If you still cannot find a solution then, I am sorry, I cannot help you further than that.

The answer to your question is in the first answer of the FAQs section. Please read the post as it states at the very beginning.
Marshmallow ROMs (nearly all) are based on kernel 3.4.67. Flash kernel 3.4.67 ROMs over kernel 3.4.67 ROMs and flash kernel 3.10.54 ROMs over kernel 3.10.54 ROMs.
99% you will have to downgrade to a KItKat ROM first (e.g stock S030) because KitKat ROMs are based on kernel 3.4.67, or you will get a brick (boot loop). If you don't downgrade you have a 1% chance of success, but do as you wish. No one here is liable.
Also, all tutorials to do everything needed are in the first post under the Tutorials section. Please read, thank you.

Understood, but this requires backing up Data everytime and also wiping the System partition is generally not recommended because ROMs are built differently and could cause a boot loop.
Long story short,my class got supended for the week cuz a friend broke another's head because of trolling in Facebook and whatsapp. So new roms ......maybe

News to me.how did you get the 3.4 kernel to work over 3.10 version? Maybe some misunderstanding? So you were in stock lollipop with 3.10.54 kernel and you flashed roms with 3.4.67 kernel and booted successfully?
P.S I'm aware you can flash over different Android versions and I've done it many times for testing bugs
But never over different kernel version.
@7awliet I forgot to add andreidi in credits.my bad but he came pretty late:angel:

One Time It got me A Bootloop is on Marshmallow/Nougat Roms built in 3.10.103 kernel...but it got fix when I installed the V3.0.3 of TWRP....But I still recommend to install stock firmware before flashing any 3.4.67 built ROM because sometimes it may cause bootloops and swipe lags.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can find them through MTK Droid Tools or looking them up in [Settings] > [About phone] section, though this way doesn't show you everything.Backup your entire ROM
Whilst the phone is turned off/first time after flashing recovery:The method is actually a bit temperamental: Simultaneously press & hold both volume buttons and then press & hold the power button also (so you're now holding 3 buttons) and hold them until it vibrates AND the Lenovo logo comes onto the screen, then only let go of the power button; once you see the TWRP logo you can let go of the volume buttons

Use TWRP 3.x.x.x or TWRP 2.8.7.0. Stay away from other TWRP versions like 2.8.1.x, 2.8.5.x, etc.
Is OTG working?
Our device started getting OTG from the S029 update onwards officially.
OTG is accessible via ES File Explorer in custom ROMS as well.
