Rootable Device W/ 16-32GB Storage (MP3 Player) - General Questions and Answers

As the title says, I'm looking for a device that has great storage for my music files and does root, so I can install audio mods on it....preferably cheap and reliable. Thanks in advance.

I just bought an AT&T Galaxy S4 Mini. $110 off eBay, brand new (supposedly - it's in perfect condition, but came in a generic box, but I don't care). Rooted it within minutes. It's light, thin, and tiny. 16gb built-in storage, and those 200gb SanDisk microSD cards work in it. There's an unbelievable amount of AT&T and Samsung garbage on it, but you can disable it. It's snappy and powerful enough to do what you expect it to. If that's too expensive, look at a Galaxy Avant or Light from T-Mobile/MetroPCS. The Avant is bigger, but cheaper. The Light is roughly the same size (give or take a dimension or 3), but an inferior device - I was extremely dissatisfied with mine.
For months I contemplated on this very thing, with some other considerations. I wanted something small, but it had to be powerful enough for the task. And in those months I looked at practically every damned possible option that exists. Those other considerations were that it'd be my internet mule (wi-fi and USB tethering). A Sony Z1 or Z3 Compact would have been a much better phone, if only I could swap the battery. The S4 Mini has a swappable battery, and a new one is cheap. Other accessories are cheap too, because nobody wants this phone anymore yet accessory suppliers still have volumes of unsold inventory.

I'm late, but thanks for the suggestions. Although, 100 is a bit steep atm. However, I would like something smaller & I do have an SD card lying around for the extra storage. I was thinking an old nexus device or something perhaps.

I think the best device I trust is the One Plus 3 with 60GB storage and 6GB RAM. Id's available in all countries.

[Q] Torn between HTC ONE and Galaxy S4

I have always been a Samsung fan... Tabs, phones, they have all been rock solid. Now, with Android 4..., I realize that having an SD slot is kind of irrelevant as I always used it to store apps, not photos.
I heard the 16gb S4 only allows for about 9gb of user storage. The HTC gives 32...
I do, however, like that, with the S4, I can carry a spare battery unlike the ONE's internal only battery.
The ONE is also about $50 less...
Any suggestions?

S6 vs Other Next Generation Phones

I currently have an S4. I love it, I also got an extended battery, and a 64GB MicroSD card. I was hoping a better S5 when the S6 came out but it actually seems like they kinda went backwards on a few things. This has left me thinking about just going to a different phone. What does anyone else think? I know extended batteries are on the way out I have given up on that for a next gen phone but was hoping that the S6 would keep the Water proof, USB 3, Removable Battery and MicroSD card. I can only wonder why they took away these features.
Hi, total newbie, first post, but.
As a Samsung owner from the original S, currently running a S4, I have to agree with your observations, in regards to going backwards.
Personally, I see the removal of the SD card as a money making scam on Samsungs part. Ok, I have no real world experience of what handset internal memory costs to buy in regards to manufacturing etc, but.
To me, the variations in memory sizes should have been costed against what the equivalent micro SD card cost to buy respectively.
Sandisc 32gig Class 10 £13
Sandisc 64gig £26
Sandisc 128gig £70 ish.
Not to robbed blindly at £200 for the extra 90 odd gig you get between 32 & 128 inbuilt.
The say they dropped the micro SD due to the full metal frame and glass back, rubbish. It looks like they have a machined slot to take the micro sim, so why couldn't they do similar with micro sd card?
Battery is an issue certainly, if it turns out like the original S4 ones, that ended up swollen.
It makes you wonder if these handsets will be operational in 5 years time. I mention this as I have a few old handsets, in pristine condition, with original batteries from the late 90's, early 2000 that all still work perfectly. Im afraid that I can's see the same with their modern builds.
Well, looks like we don't have much options left of removable batteries smartphones, but its not a big deal,at least for me,because its not like we can't replace it,its just harder but still possible. The issue here is that only 2550 mAh,plus with a unnecessary QHD display ,the S6 battery can perform any better than our S4?
For the SD Card, they don't drop it because of the glass and metal design, its performance related.S6 have amazingly fast R/W internal memory, and a SD card would ruin it.The price off course will be a issue, but i think they made a good choice.
The biggest drawback is the lack of waterproof, and for the USB 3,i wonder when they will begin to implement the Type C standard on Smartphones, that would be cool!
I think im gonna jump this generations of smartphones because I am still happy with the S4 and type C standard is actually a very nice practical thing to have. I'm even delaying my motherboard upgrade because of that.

Note 5 vs LG V10

I'm close to upgrading and undecided between these 2 devices. I'm currently on a Note 3. I would be limited to the 32 gb Note 5 due to cost. Without removable storage that's not much. The V10 has several features gone from the Note 5, like IR blaster, removable storage and removable battwry, but a slower processor. Any input to help me decide?
V10 is too big for me. I looked at one the other day and hated it in hand. But that is obviously a subjective thing.

Size doesn't bother me. And, both are running some good promotional gifts. V10 bought by 11-15 gets a 2nd battery, battery charger and 200gb micro sd.
The V10 doesn't have a notification light if that's important to you
Costco is also offering a $250 Costco card if you purchase a Note 5 and Samsung is giving you wireless charging plate, external battery/charger and really good headphones if you register for Samsung Pay. Along with the $300 Verizon is giving me for trading in a Blu smartphone I'm making out like a bandit

If I were in your situation with the storage I would go for the V10. The LG promo looks like it's something you need too. My friend has the V10 and loves it. I'm very happy with my Note 5 but I have the 64 gig model. As for the battery mine lasts plenty long for my use but that's me.
That's the funny part, I don't need 264gb of storage, the 64 will be enough, and I already have a 64gb card I can put in. If I do get the LG I'll probably sell the 200gb card.
Get a droid turbo 2 then.

Lg free 24" TV at best buy this week. If there were an easy way to do it I'd return the Note 5 and get the v10 in a heart beat.
V10 is ugly however...

I disagree. Have you seen the V10 in person? I think its the nicest Android phone I've seen in a while. The colors of the phones both look great. Its more like gun metal for the dark one and the white and gold looks really good too. LG made an awesome phone. I wish it was out before I bought the Note 5 =/.
I played with a V10 in store for 30+ minutes right after launch. I hated it. Way too big, felt horrible in hand.
So instead I picked up a droid turbo 2 for my other phone instead. Still ugly, but the size and battery are both better.
I don't get the V10 at all. But each to their own.

I ended up with the Note 5.

Buying nexus 5

Hi guys, I am sorry because this is probably 1828318th time someone asks this.
I have samsung galaxy s6, I love it. I could get this phone for 120-150 euros, is it worth ? It probably wouldn't be my primary phone, something to have in reserve but I would also use it, one of the reasons I would like to try it because on my sgs6 is first time I flashed rom, so I would also like to experiment with it.
Thank you
It's a great phone, hardware-wise it's perfect. Great chipset (cpu, gpu), 2gb of ram is enough, go for the 32gb version since it doesn't take a sd card. The camera is very good, the screen even better, and it's a nexus, so you have many people working on it. It's cheap and you can find replacement parts cheap and easily on eBay (screen, battery etc.).
If you're planning on buying from eBay (specifically those from honk kong) be careful, I bought 3 of them (1st motherboard broke on its own, didn't have backlight, 2nd came with a literally broken motherboard) because they were all broken or faulty. Suspicious things I found when I removed the back covers. The 3rd was finally good.
I bought 2 of them for 180 dollars [emoji14]

Does anyone know this phone Geotel A1 ?

My phone is broken now .. I wanna buy a budget model ( around $100), I saw a phone called geotel A1 which is a rugged handset and the specs seems fit me and what is most important is the price is really low, does anyone know this phone? what about it ? Appreciate it.
Or do you guys have any recommendations ? Thanks!
I'm using this phone. Well can't expect much on this budget model. 8GB Internal Memory, 1GB RAM, can expand until 64GB SD card and is running on stock Android Nougat 7.0! So far I have no issue using this budget phone. I use it to track jogging, cycling beside this I use it for smartphone photography too!

I bought 50 pieces of this phone for my field technicians in my telecom company.
Here are my observations.
The phone is very good for the price. (around 65$)
The phone has a very clean rom, absoltuely no bloatwares at all. Android 7.0 has a bunch of cool options, gestures etc ...
It is pretty fast for a 1 Gb of RAM and there's space to install apps, despite the 8 Gb of ROM (4,2 Gb available) which is not fantastic but minimal.
Battery life for 3400mAh is pretty decent, that's promising for the future.
It is very tough too.
The cons are for me principally focused on 1 thing: the waterproof membrane on the mic and the earspeaker.
You need to drill the 2 membranes if you have sound troubles.
You can do this externally without disassembling the smartphone.
Last thing, you have to use the original USB DC cable. The original is bit longer than other micro USB cables.
Purchased one of these for use in the US. Hardware is solid and chunky with buttons which take a strong press but it is usable. Unfortunately my network (straighttalk/at&t) won't give it service! Same sim works fine in other phones.
Anybody have luck using this phone on At&t?
Probably sending it back if it is at all cost effective to do so.
Oops let me answer my own question... A little research shows that AT&T dropped 2G this year and does not support the 3G bands on this phone.
No wonder they are cheap!!
Avoid this phone in the US.
