Last weekend I upgraded from my old smartphone to the new Moto G4 Plus, and after reading much about the heating and camera issues, I thought of putting it under a test.
I used CPU-Z for testing temperature and some common sense. Last night I installed the three high end games on my phone ie. Asphalt 8, Mortal Combat X and Nova 3
1. Asphalt 8
Play Time: 1 Hour 10 Minutes
Gameplay: No Lags, No Frame Drops, Ran Smooth
Temperature (Front): Varied between 39 - 41 Degrees
Temperature (Back): Varied between 42 - 45 Degrees
Hotness/Warmness Index (Out of 10) - 3/10
2. NOVA 3
Play Time: 20 Minutes
Gameplay: No Lags, No Frame Drops, Ran Smooth
Temperature (Front): Varied between 39 - 41 Degrees
Temperature (Back): Varied between 42 - 44 Degrees
Hotness/Warmness Index (Out of 10) - 3/10
2. MORTAL COMBAT X
Play Time: 15 Minutes
Gameplay: No Lags, No Frame Drops, Ran Smooth, Took 2 Minutes for Initial Loading
Temperature (Front): Varied between 40 - 42 Degrees
Temperature (Back): Varied between 42 - 45 Degrees
Hotness/Warmness Index (Out of 10) - 4/10
With all these games I have noticed one thing, the temperature varied between a certain range ie. 42 - 45 degrees, after which it stayed constant, as if it reached a certain threshold, but it was not hot as the users on various forums are claiming, it was mildly warm near the power and volume buttons. The game-play was awesome without any glitches.
The main culprit is actually the Camera, or rather the Camera app. As soon as I fired the camera, the temperature started rising, and it went as high as 48 degrees while shooting a 1080p video for 2 mins, after which I have to close it down. And it really felt hot to hold. On my Hotness/Warmness Index, it would be 8/10. There was a steep rise in temperature and it didn't stopped, it continued to rise. The pro mode makes the matter worse.
On the other hand I installed third party camera apps ie. VSCO camera and Camera 360, they worked fantastic with zero heating and lagging issue.
The TurboCharger is also making the phone reach temperatures around 50 Degrees.
In case you wanna know, my phone has a manufacturing date of 05/2016 and the outside temperature according to the weather app was 27 Degrees. The phone gave a SOT of 4 Hours 40 Minutes of a single charge.
Exactly same in my case, plating same games and there are no lags no frame drops ,running smooth. I'm happy with this.
For Camera (Update the Camera , Camera tuner app If you din't already)..I'd like to give 1 solution which is not good but Moto told to do until it brings an update for Camera-heating issue---> Turn Off Stabilization, put mobile on AirPlane Mode, use 720p (I know this is not all good but it somehow useful) and Moto said they are working hard to get this issue solved..
For turbo charge ..we can't do anything because Qualcomm set the chip like to get turbo charge(it's normal in this case)

Motorola has released an OTA update fixing this issue. This gives a good forecast to when Motorola will update its devices, and the amount of updates each phone gets.

Hi guys,
I bought my su 870 ( Korean version of p720 3d max) 2 weeks ago. I liked almost everything about it except the issues i will state below:
1. Heats up while charging and sometimes stops charging because of heting up to 55 degrees.
2. Heats up while its on standby and 2g network is on.
3. Heats up while on standby and only whatsapp and yahoo messenger r running in background.
4. Heats up like +&^% while i play a simple game or use the net or use wifi or use play store or pretty much anything.
5. Heats up to n over 55 degrees quickly while watching 3d. And no chance of watching 3d and charging simultaneously. Over heats.
6. Gives only 20 to 25 minutes video playback time on 3d at max. Of course heats up.
7. Gives a 1 hour apps usage time including net. Heats up.
8. After restarting works fine unless i put in even one app from play-store and then it heats up.
9. Heats up while using a simple app like whatsapp or if i simply keep the screen on.
10. Heats up if i charge via the USB and shows slow charging on USB.
11. Heats up if i put it in a pouch.
I've tried task killers, they help but not much, have to delete apps to make it work.
That is all i remember for now but u get my point, IT HEATS UP. I'm running stock unrooted ginger bread 2.3.6. I want to try upgrading but currently have no internet connection. So i would really appreciate it if anyone could help me out. I use my S.G.S.2 in an Xmart all plastic pouch, played full hd videos on the S2 while modern combat was running in the background n it still didn't heat up. So please help me out. I really like this cellphone n i don't want to replace it. Thanks.

probably by any reason you have constant CPU usage. Download CPUSpy and check that.
Download Wakelock and see which program make a huge wakelocks there - uninstall it.
Then if your phone is rooted download SetCPU and set the Governor not to be on Performance, but s.t. else like OnDemand

thanks for replying. i did what u asked. ive only got whatsapp in wakelock with 1 minute average. nothing else.
as ive already mentioned i dont have root.
in cpu spy at
1200 is 3.2%
1008 is 9.8%
300 is 32.6 n 50.4 in deepsleep.
so no problem in there either.
since yesterday ive recharged it twice n during recharge it hovers around 48 degreessometimes 45 or 44. during average use it stays at 38 t0 41 degrees, and in light games goes upto 48, in heavy games it goes well over 55.
its not he3ating up while its either anymore but it hetas up everytime i use the cam or watch video or games. is that much heat normal for this? also it stops charging at around 53 degrees heat
i would like to add the the region on the right side of the battery is where it hetas up so much. in battery its acceptable. And it heats up so much wjile charging and watching a video that it stops charging within ten minutes because of exceeding the 55 degree mark.

I have original battery. Just now when i was charging it chrged to about 60 % and ten stopped charging because it heated up to 55 degrees. just because playstore and whatsapp were open in background and downloading skype from play store via my 2g network. now its slowly cooling down. Anyway thanks for trying vlad.
CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE.
So ive been testing it a lil more. i played a hd 3d movie on it, it was qround 42 degrees when i started movie n it was charging. after 40 minute of playback it is at 53 degrees. no other app running in background. I even monitered the cpu frequency and 1 core was on 50 percent and the other was completely off at an average.
Edit: while testing i kept the back ventilated at 26 degrees temp.
Guys help me out please. is it supposed to go so hot? and does ur cellphone stop charging after reaching 55 degrees? i would realy appreciate any feedback. i dont think any cellphone should heat up above 50 degrees no matter what the condition or loads. my s2 doesnt even when ive got it fully covered wth plastic bag.

my p920 is charging right now (1amp wall charger) , room temp at 31ºc phone temp at 35ºc... even in performance governor @ 1250mhz overclock i think i never saw my phone reach 50ºc and it never overheated.
unfortunately what you describe sounds more like hardware problem than anything else. i would try factory reset just to be sure it isn't some software hogging the cpu and then send to lg if problem persists.
My Z3 gets to 70 degrees C when playing an intensive game or using the 4k video option is this normal? Anyone have the same issue?
Even when just taking a few pics on a hot day the phone gets super hot and camera app shuts down due to overheating after 5 minutes of picture taking.
I use CurrentWidget apk that show battery temp. I don't know how accurate it is but in plaing 3d games, the highest temp was about 45 degree C. Ambiental temp about 20-22 degrees C (indoors).
Cheers!

Hi, that is battery temp. I am talking about actual CPU temp. Can you install A1 CPU tool from the playstore and see if you get the same as me.
Just shot 3 mins of 4k video and then went straight to the app and it told me 66 degrees C
pls see if what your temp is with the same
Now my phone is charging but later I will try what you said!
No flagship CPU can sustain maximum load for long before entering thermal throttling in a device with a phone form factor.
If you want sustained peak performance, you've got two options:
1) Buy a device with a more power efficient CPU (Snapdragon 4xx family) - peak performance will be far lower, but performance per watt will be vastly improved.
2) Buy a tablet - even the worst of these have better thermal management than any phones. Some devices are unambiguously superior - SHIELD Portable (not a tablet) actually had a fan on its heatsink and I believe THREE 18650 batteries, SHIELD Tablet has a phase-change thermal spreader I believe.

Hello, i had a at&t lg g (e970), and now i have a D850 that i bougt a few weeks ago, but since i bought ut i feel it a little warm, it isn't too hot but it still is a bit uncomfortable, and i want now if someone have a cpu temperature monitor, battery is cold, and can tell me how much is normal in this model, and which monitor you used.
I readed that it have temperature problem, but i only open for example a web page and it feel warm, if you can test it without any extra app running would great for me.
I used:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=temperature.mugich.com.thermo&hl=es
and only opened it i had at least 40 celsius, if i wait a minute it up 2 or 3 degrees.
i read some post, but i didn't see any value for normal temperature, i hope you can help me, thz
During normal usage my cpu temps are between 40 - 50c and it exceeds 50c when I play games. I think this is the standard for the G3.
Temperature
hello, thz for your answer mine start in 40-45 celsius, but if i open camera it go to 62, do you have same temperature with yours? or is only mine that have that temperature?. thz
My temperatures:
Normal use (facebook, instagram) ~45C
Camera ~48C
Opening a lot of apps sequentially ~55C
Randomly jumps up to 60C-65C for no reason when messing around with different apps and WiFi sync is open with LG PC Suite
Google Maps: ~62C
AnTuTu toped out at around 84C
I was wondering if my temperatures are high. Comparing to my friends Huawei P8 Lite the temperatures are about 60% higher. This is normal due to the 2x clockspeed of the 801ac vs the Kirin 620 of the Huawei.
Battery temp never exceeded 32C
Are other SD801 phones have such high temperatures? That's the question
Running Stock rom android lolipop 5.0
Hello, I have been using HTC U 11 for a couple of days now. I find it really odd that the temperature is kinda little high at all times. here are my observations.
before I start im from chennai and the avg temperate here ranges from 28 to 35 on a normal day.
I first noticed heating when I was recording a FHD video at 60FPS for more than 3 min. The camera stopped taking video due to overheat. The phone was uncomfortably hot. But then I realized maybe its because I was riding as pillion in motorcycle while recording and it was 1 PM in the afternoon with Sun burning your eyes. So I thought maybe its because of that.
then taking any 4K, hyperlapse videos increased temperature. So i used CPU temp to analyze the temperature(with back case removed) I was in a AC Hall with room temperature of around 26 degrees C and the starting temperature was 36 degrees C in my phone. Then,
I took two 4K videos 1 and 2 minutes each and the temperature went from 36 to 47 and once the video is finished it settled back to 41. the CPU was at 1900 MHz while recording and throttled down to 300Mhz once its done.
then I ran 3D Mark tests. it gave me a score of some 2.7K with an average FPS of 25 but while performing this test my CPU went to a whooping 53 degrees C and settled back to 45 degree C once its done. Normal Phone operations like FB, reddit, discord etc gives me around 36 37C which still, i feel is too much and despite being a glass body I have never felt any form of chillness even after hours of being in AC room it was always pleasantly warm when normal use to uncomfortably warm on high use.
Do you guys think that I have a defective device? I still have 4 days on free return policy with the seller. should I replace my phone?
I'd say it's normal for a phone.
Video recording and running heavy games is the most difficult tasks for smartphone (maybe now it's VR & AR), I'm not surprised at all if the temperature raises at 42 degrees or more.
Benchmark apps like 3D marks take full power of computing capability, no wonder why it gets even hotter.
Smartphone is a smartphone, not a PC nor a GoPro.

yeah! i thought that too. actually i think for a processor like 835 normal temperature is 35 36. I do understand that Optical Image stabilization and image stitching are quite heavy tasks . maybe im paranoid. I just want to make sure it doesnt damage the phone in the long run. Also its kind of a pride thing . you see from where I am, There are tonnes of pun and memes about cheap MI phones and heating. So people around here were like you have a $700 phone(thanks to all the customs and import duties) and it heats like a $50 MI phone?. *smh*.
Do you think installing custom rom can increase performance? I really want to get rid of that HTC companion, news republic, facebook and messenger. FB sucks. it takes up almost 300MB of RAM at all times.
It would not damage your phone but as we speak of the "long-term", something you probably should know:
If you keep using your phone for heavy tasks and temperature of the device is always at 38°C or higher, it could decrease the battery life. Higher temperature would cause the loss of battery capacity. You probably should be careful.
As for MI phones, 50$ is hard to get one. And heating meme is because of Qualcomm S810 back in 2015, for HTC, Xiaomi, as well some other devices. Some people just couldn't get over it even we have S835 today.
For RAM consumption, I'd say leave it, because on the one hand, U11 has 4GB of RAM, 300MB does no harm. (the theory is, the free RAM is some sort of a waste, you don't need to be careful about the RAM usage as long as you don't experience serious lag) on the other hand, you can always disable the apps if you don't need them. Installing another ROM won't make these apps running with less RAM.
Hello everyone,
I am using Huawei P50 Pro Global version with latest EMUI. Which running with Snapdragon 888.
I am using Franco Kernel Manager which I was used on previous Android phone to customize kernel configuration, but now without root we can still use it to monitor our Battery and CPU info. And the idle temperature for the CPU is about 35-37 celcius here without Air Conditioner in Jakarta, ID.
And I just took some photos for less than 15 or 10 picture, it will quickly reach 40 celcius or more, then the camera performance is very poor just like cheap xiaomi device with watercolor, it is so very very bad. So I need to cool it down to below 40 celcius to make the camera performance better again.
Is it just me or anyone else face the same issue?
It is a second phone that I bought from ppl, not the store, but still in warranty for the next 6 months.
If it is really phone issue, not the temperature issue, then I might bring this to the service center, but if anyone else here also face the same issue, maybe we should invest with phone cooler like Flydigi B5 ? I am currently using Flydigi B1, but the vibration of the fan makes the Image swinging in camera, I think it is because of OIS. And with Flydigi B1 only keep the temperature to 40 celcius, I was using Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, it would reach 33 to 35 celcius. Is that so bad with the back cover of this Huawei?
FYI, I already turn it into Power Saving mode and disable almost everything but it still won't lower the idle temperature, and getting lower than 40 celcius is not easy, it would takes 5mins or more.
Regards.
now i just purchased phone cooler Flydigi B5 to overcome any heat on phone and it really useful that with smart and balance mode it can reach 29celcius degree in cpu temperature in a normal room temperature about 26 celcius..it might be cooler like 20 celcius with overclock features, but we may not need it that way, maybe on the outside will do
