I have two questions
1. What are your favorite ROMs?
2. I have T Mobile s7, what is easiest and cheapest way to unlock?
@bradleyb5155 I use stock ROM but I modified using Xposed. I don't think US based S7 devices have root or Unlocking methods right now

The snapdragon version's bootloader is locked down, thus making any development impossible.

Okay, so my Android 4.3 AT&T Galaxy S4 is rooted (through Kingo) and the only reason I did it in the first place was to flash CyanogenMod or some stock Android variant. Now I'm being told I can't install a custom recovery on my phone for two reasons. 1) AT&T locked the bootloader 2) I'm running Android 4.3.
Now, I'm considering unrooting my phone but even that's unclear and confusing, and it's hard to find people on these forums who are willing to help with these relatively simple (to the non-newbs, of course) things.
Can I flash a custom recovery? Can I run CyanogenMod or any good ROM? If no, will I be able to, ever? If no, how do I unroot? Would it be wise to just wait for the next update from Samsung or AT&T and install it so I automatically unroot?
Much appreciated.

im not confirm with it but i read theres a tool called "loki" with it you can unlock your bootloader and run custom firmware. but the rom must provisioned with loki.
search for it and read you in.
hope i could help you a little.
Long time android user that just upgraded to the Verizon Note 5.
I see plenty of custom roms and root methods for other variants. ...are we just screwed on the Verizon variant?
I'm still in my 14 day period, so may return if root and custom ROMS aren't available
No root or unlocked bootloader = no ROMs.
Root may happen someday, but I doubt it. At least not a 'full' root with system folder write access.
So if ROMs and root are important to you then return the phone immediately.

Verizon's Note 5 is locked down tight. Just look at the Note 4, it's still not rootable. If you want to play with ROMs, go with Nexus 6P
Bummer!!
I do like the phone very much though, are any of the other variants compatible with the Verizon network.
Have thoughts of returning this model and buying one that works with CDMA and can be rooted. ..is there such a thing?
This is Verizon! So no, no other variant will have complete compatibility with the Verizon network.
If you want rom's, you'll have to either switch to tmobile and get a note 5 with them, stay on verizon and get a nexus 6 or s6/edge.

I beg your pardon, but that is clearly not a real rooting solution.
A quick read through the comments (including one unfortunate flasher) reveals that it's nonsense. Please don't share things like this. It makes this forum worse!
I'm looking for advice on a phone to get to root. I'm new to rooting but I'd like to run xposed framework and learn more about it.
I've seen Motorola's website offering a way to unlock bootloaders for certain phones for developers. Would that be a good route to take? Does that allow me to easily root the phone?
Are there other, better options?
Thanks for all the help!

Unlock your bootloader and install twrp recovery, than flash superSU and or Xposed framework
This topic can be a databank to all the rootable phones in the market. Brand, Model, Link to rooting guide.
I hope this is in the correct forum for my question. I want to get a new phone and I prefer to root it, I understand Samsung has made it next to impossible to root so I was curious is there a phone that is easier to root? i heard that the Google phone (i.e. Pixel) are easy to root? Any truth to this or other recommendations for rootable phones

If you want a ROM with good developer community I recommended buying Nexus or OnePlus devices.
Should I get unlocked Pixel XL or unlocked Moto Z? I want to root & use it on Verizon
I am a Verizon user and looking to get either the unlocked Pixel XL or unlocked Moto Z.
Both seem to be able to work on Verizon.
Both seem to have a root toolkit.
Is one easier to root than the other?
Is one better for rom support?
Any thoughts to help me chose 1 or the other?
Thanks!

Any time you can get a Google Nexus or Pixel device you'll be doing yourself a favor. You don't have to worry about them being locked down like other devices because they are pure Google android without manufacturer/carrier crap on them.

Thanks, DroidDriven.
. . . .
Any one else have thoughts on whether either would be easier to root, etc.?

Pixel devices are easier to root and the easiest to create custom development for them. As I said, they don't have manufacturer/carrier crap. This means they aren't locked down by the manufacturer/carrier like other devices that have permanently locked bootloader.
Pixel devices usually get custom development sooner than most other devices because they are pure Google android without all the extra crap so there are fewer issues to deal with when creating custom software for them. Developers love Pixel devices because they are the easiest to develop for.
